WWA Extreme Brand Split 2002

Recommended Posts

It is April 2002, and the WWA has decided to do a brand split of their own. The WWA has been split right down the middle into:

WWA: World Wrestling All Stars

This brand will continue to sign former WWF and WCW competitors to tour Australia and perhaps other countries in the future. Titles for this brand will include the WWA Championship, Tag Team Championship, Cruiserweight Championship, and Australian Championship.

EWA: Extreme Wrestling All Stars

This brand will sign former ECW stars plus the cream of the crop of the available independent circuit. Titles for this brand will include the EWA Championship, Tag Team Championship, Junior Heavyweight Championship, and Pay Per View Championship.

Each brand will run one show a week during the tour. They will combine for one Pay Per View a month, and their final Pay Per View of each tour will consist of members of each brand competing against each other, as well as Champion vs. Champion matches.

The rosters for each brand as well as the cards for the first show for each brand will be announced ASAP...signings have already commenced and will be announced via our website and press releases...

THE CARD FOR EWA TOUR ONE (Night One)*

For the vacant EWA Heavyweight Championship

Sabu vs. Terry Funk vs. Shane Douglas

Funk is great at promos and he'll cut some great ones chasing Douglas around for the belt.

For the vacant EWA Tag Team Championship

The Sandman/2 Cold Scorpio vs. Steve Corino/CW Anderson

The Heel's take the belts and start hanging out with Douglas.

For the vacant EWA Junior Heavyweight Championship

Chris Candido vs. Jerry Lynn

I'm just a bigger fan of Lynn. Candido was a great wrestler but Lynn should hold that kind of belt.

Extreme Street Fight

Axl Rotten vs. Necro Butcher

Axl is solid and i never got the charm of Necro.

The Full Blooded Italians (Little Guido/Tony Mamaluke) vs. Nova and Roadkill

FBI all the way.

Samoa Joe vs. Super Crazy

Time to start Joe on the right track. I'm a fan of Crazy but Joe is gonna choke that dude out.

Simon Diamond vs. Paul London

I figure that Diamond will win. I like london but he's more of a tag guy in my eyes. should be a fun match.

CM Punk/Kurt Morrison vs. Teddy Hart/Jack Evans

Punk and Morrison are openers so they'll lose to hart and Evans. Punk and Morrison won't be jobbers for long though.

WWA/EWA News And Notes from http://www.pwinsider.com

*Tonight starts the EWA brand of the World Wrestling All Stars tour. Top matches include Sabu vs. Terry Funk vs. Shane Douglas to crown the first EWA Heayweight Champion. It is a rematch of the match that put ECW on the map back in 1994. Former ECW World Tag Team Champions The Sandman and 2 Cold Scorpio reunite to take on the tag team of Steve Corino and CW Anderson to crown the first EWA Tag Team Champions, and Chris Candido faces Jerry Lynn to crown the first ever EWA Junior Heavyweight Champion in what should be a tremendous bout. Axl Rotten takes on independent standout Necro Butcher in a Hardcore match that should prove to be a bloody, messy affair. Also on the card are the FBI, Nova, Super Crazy, and Simon Diamond.

*While the rosters for both brands are mostly finalized, there are still some negotiations ongoing, especially with female talent. The EWA braintrust wants more female competitors and valets on it's roster, and will turn to the independent world to try and find some. Rumored names in negotiatons are April Hunter, Gail Kim, and Simply Luscious.

*Also working on coming to terms with the EWA are The Blue Meanie, and former NWA wildside competitor, Prince Justice.

*The first ever WWA PPV to utilize both brands will be entitled WWA/EWA Revolution 2002, and it wll be broadcast live on Tuesday in week 4 of April. No matches have been announced yet, but rumor has it there will be two interpromotional matches, one to decide an Australian Champion, and one to decide a Pay Per View Champion. The winner will then defend the title on their brand. May's WWA/EWA PPV will consist of the champions from each brand facing each other.

WWA/EWA News And Notes from http://www.pwinsider.com

*There has already been talk internally of doing away with the Touring concept for the WWA/EWA and turning into a normal wrestling company, with both brands touring the world and being showcased on PPV. Interbrand matches will happen either at the end of each tour (if the scheduling doesn't change) or they will happen at 3-4 big shows a year.

*Nova has been courted by XPW, causing EWA management to sit back down at the negotiating table with the innovative young star. Attempts to sign The Blue Meanie to reform the BWO were unsuccessful.

*The following talents have been signed to the EWA brand: Simply Lucious (to manage Shane Douglas), the tandem of Slyk Wagner Brown and April Hunter, Prince Justice (word is he will be repackaged under a mask), and Veronica Caine (to manage CM Punk)

*EWA Management is very very high on the aforementioned Punk, and talk has begun of him fronting his own stable of freaks, similar to a Raven's Nest type concept.

*Midajah has been signed to the WWA Brand to reunite with Scott Steiner.

*Lex Luger is the talk of the WWA locker room, as his victory for the Championship came seemingly out of nowhere. He is said to be rejuvenated by his victory and is in great shape.

*EWA Management is also very high on Samoa Joe, who is rumored to be starting a long undefeated steak ala Goldberg.

This seems good, but i don't understand the backstory. Where does that WWA comes from? Is this a sequel to a diary? I'd love to know.

The World Wrestling All-Stars (WWA) was a professional wrestling promotion founded by Australian concert promoter Andrew McManus in 2001. The promotion was operated by McManus' International Touring Company.[1] WWA was one of several promotions to come into existence shortly after the closings of Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW). The company was in existence from October 2001 to May 2003.

from WWA's wikipedia. It was around for a few years, toured, and had a few random PPVs with mostly former WWF/WCW/ECW talent.

WWA/EWA News and Notes from pwinsider.com

-Nova has apparently walked away from negotiations with the EWA brand. XPW is supposedly very interested in his services. Word is he has 5 months left on his verbal deal, but it has been made very clear to this reporter that it is not likely that he finishes that term out.

-The company was in negotiations with Mike Rotundo and Jimmy Hart to come in, but was unable to agree to terms.

-Currently under negotiations are Barry Windham, Rey Misterio Jr., "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, and "Dr. Death" Steve Williams.

-The Interbrand PPV in May has been titled "Wrestle War" and will include interbrand matches, including Champion vs. Champion matches. Word on the street right now is that WWA Champion Lex Luger will headline this show against EWA Champion Shane Douglas in a Cage match.

-The month of May will be very big for the WWA as they will being trying very hard to get TV exposure in the US. With the deal, they will discontinue the touring system they are under, but without, things will continue just as they are.

-Word is that EWA Executive Producer/Head Booker J.F. has located an American investor who has already put a million of his dollars into the project. This will keep WWA/EWA afloat for quite some time, bringing stability to its roster and their contracts. But will they ever be able to mount a steady threat to the WWF? They certainly have the names. But with rumors of Jeff Jarrett starting his own promotion continuing, and the likelihood that they will have PPV coverage right out of the gate, the war for talent could get very very interesting.

-CM Punk being put over in the Battle Royal for the PPV Championship caused a lot of heat backstage with some veterans who were in that match. Punk is now heading his own stable, rumored to be called "ANTIsocial", with stable members Necro Butcher, new signing Prince Justice, now know as Abyss, and Kurt Morrison, as well as his valet Veronica Caine.

EWA Pre Show News and Notes from PWTorch.com...

-Plans for the mystery opponent to face Douglas in the main event have changed several times. Firstly, it was supposed to be an underutilized midcard heel to turn and challenge him, but word is he is being kept heel because of Corino and Anderson's Zero One commitments that are causing the EWA to reevaluate their place in the company. Then they were just going to use Sabu twice, but scratched that idea. Now word is, someone is jumping from the WWA brand where he has been floundering to get a bigger push in the EWA. It should be phenomenal.

-Terry Funk is reportedly unhappy with how he has been booked since the EWA's inception. Tonight's match should tell the tale about his future with the brand.

-Prince Justice from NWA Wildside will work as "Abyss" again tonight, teaming with Necro Butcher in a hardcore match to face Sabu and Axl Rotten.

-Teddy Hart is scheduled to work a dark match with CW Anderson, but has been in management's ear about his push and a bigger role in the EWA's future. He has been told to be patient, and that his time will come.

-Nova, who has heat for cutting off negotiations while continuing to be wooed by XPW, faces the new Pay Per View Champion CM Punk tonight. Punk formed his stable 'ANTIsocial" at the Revolution PPV.
