The Independent Corner:

Mid Atlantic Wrestling

by Brock Johnson

Welcome to a brand new section of The Independent Corner here at SquaredCircle-Online.com. And here we will be focusing on Rip Chord's Mid Atlantic Wrestling (MAW). After almost 4 and a half years of existence, I find it baffling that nobody here has decided to dedicate ANY time to the small Mid Atlantic outfit, especially considering the amount of great talent and quality shows they have put on in the past. So I have taken on the challenge of bringing you up to date news, information and results regarding MAW. In this first article, I will highlight the stars of MAW, from the Main Event players all the way down to the bottom of the barrel talent. I will also shed some light on the major titles in Mid Atlantic Wrestling, as well as some of the recent news coming from the company. So without further ado, let's kick things off with the Mid Atlantic Wrestling roster, beginning with...

Main Event:

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 3px 0px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/AmericanPatriot_alt1.jpg"></div><span>American Patriot

Current Mid Atlantic Champion.

Making his début in October of 2007, Heavyweight competitor American Patriot quickly made an impression on MAW fans. Whilst the mask may suggest he is just another Red White and Blue, flag waving American with his hand on his chest in salute to the American people, the mask and outfit are almost secondary. In fact, it is rarely acknowledged, as most of his talking is done INSIDE the ring. Using an array of Japanese inspired strikes and suplexes, he is one of the more gifted athletes competing in MAW, and it is no surprise that he currently holds their main prize, the Mid Atlantic Championship</span>

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: right; margin: 0px 0px 3px 10px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/CitizenX_alt3.jpg"></div><span>

Citizen X

Charles "Citizen X" Weston is a talented lightweight wrestler who first came to prominence in CZCW as the bizarre E.M.M Moe. Since coming to MAW he has become one of their top players, including having a 5 month run as Mid Atlantic Champion. Citizen X is considered one of, if not THE best talkers in the promotion, as well as a good hand in the ring. X's main drawback these days is his character, as, whilst working as a babyface, he shows very heelish tendancies, and not in a "It's cool to be bad" kind of way. I think it's only a matter of time before he turns, but the fans DO seem to enjoy his work, so only time will tell on that one.

</span>

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 3px 0px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/KingofWrestling.jpg"></div><span>King of Wrestling

Masked sensation King of Wrestling is portrayed by Jack Avatar, one of the most gifted young talents in wrestling today. Avatar had a brief stint in MAW as Jackson Rayne in 2008, but it was only when he donned the mask to become the King of Wrestling that he truly began to make his mark. Fans really began to get behind the Masked Sensation, who hasn't uttered a single word since his arrival in June of 2009. However, it seems a story has been brewing with Mid Atlantic Champion American Patriot, with KOW attempting to gain the trust and acceptance of Patriot, who has been wary of the bright new star. It is an intiguing story, and I for one am looking forward to seeing where it will lead.</span>

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: right; margin: 0px 0px 3px 10px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/MatthewKeith.jpg"></div><span>

Matthew Keith

Entering the company in September 2009, Keith made an immediate impact, targeting Citizen X and instantly putting himself in the upper tier of MAW. Luckily he can easily back up his claims of being "The Saving Grace of MAW". At Just 20 years old, he is by far one of the best all round athletes in the company. Possessing a natural charisma as well as tremendous technical ability and a gifted brawler to boot, Matthew Keith is the total package. The only worry Rip Chord and company may have is losing him to one of the larger companies, as it is almost inevitable that SWF or TCW will come calling at some point

.</span>

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 3px 0px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/MeanJeanCattley_alt1.jpg"></div><span>Mean Jean Cattley

Mean Jean Cattley has been the back bone of Mid Atlantic Wrestling since its birth in October of 2005, as well as becoming the first ever Mid Atlantic Champion in December of that year. Cattley is one of Rip Chord's closest allies, which would explain why, despite being the weakest Main Eventers of the group, he continues to be given the ball over others who deserve it more. Don't get me wrong, he is a solid performer, but when you compare him to the likes of Matthew Keith and King of Wrestling, there really is no comparison. I think now would be a good time to let Cattley go, as there really isn't much left for him to do. Even if he went away for a year and repackaged himself to freshen it up, because at this moment in time he has become very stale.</span>

Upper Midcard:

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 3px 0px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/CameronVessey.jpg"></div><span>Cameron Vessey

2009 Rip Chord Invitational Winner

Cameron Vessey is a hot young prospect who is hotly tipped to be the next man to break into the upper echelon of Mid Atlantic Wrestling. As the leader of the hot new Stable The Succession, as well as part of the highly rated tag team C-V-2 along with Casey Valentine, Vessey has the tools, the lineage and the Rip Chord stamp of approval that make him almost a certainty to make it to the top of MAW.</span>

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: right; margin: 0px 0px 3px 10px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/FindlayOFarraday.jpg"></div><span>

Findlay O'Farraday

Words cannot describe how much I dislike this man. He just doesn't seem to fit in with the general vibe of the company. A big, hulking individual who, whilst a decent brawler, doesn't seem to have much else going for him. Yet despite this Rip and co have given him opportunity after opportunity, including an inexplicable 7 MONTH REIGN as Mid Atlantic Tag Team Champions with Ricky Douglas. I'm sure he's a decent guy outside the ring, but inside it he is the drizzling s**ts.

</span>

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 3px 0px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/JayChord_alt1.jpg"></div><span>Jay Chord

Many would see Jay Chord being so far up the card as an indication that Rip Chord is making the classic mistake of a promoter showing favouritism towards a family member. But when you can back it up like Jay Chord can, all those theories become irrelevant. At just 19 years of age Jay has shown the potential to be as good, if not BETTER, than his legendary father. Forming a fantastic tag team in Generation X with Brett Starr, as well as being a part of The Succession stable, the skies the limit for Jay Chord. That is of course if he can keep his attitude in check, which seems to be gradually getting worse... </span>

MIDCARD

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 3px 0px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/AceYoungblood_alt1.jpg"></div><span>Ace Youngblood

A decent worker who, at 24,still has time to improve. With a little work I don't see why he couldn't reach at least Upper Midcard status. Currently involved in a decent Tag Team with Max Mayhem, who have been fortunate enough to hold the Mid Atlantic Tag Team Championship</span>

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: right; margin: 0px 0px 3px 10px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/HollywoodBretStarr.jpg"></div><span>

Brett Starr

This man is a star in the making! Starr needs a lot of work in the ring, but if he isn't working for one of the bigger companies within 5 years I'll happily eat my hat. This man is loaded with charisma and knows exactly how to connect to an audience. Hopefully being in a team with Jay Chord will improve his in ring abilities, but other than that it is a guarantee that Brett Starr is a superstar in the making.

</span>

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 3px 0px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/CaseyValentine_alt1.jpg"></div><span>Casey Valentine

A good all rounder, Casey Valentine is another athlete who, if handled correctly, could become a major threat in MAW. Currently teaming with Cameron Vessey as well as being a part of The Succession, Valentine is certainly one to watch.</span>

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: right; margin: 0px 0px 3px 10px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/RandyMaxx_alt1.jpg"></div><span>

Max Mayhem

Hmmmm. Not sure what to think of this guy. Whilst certainly a talented high flier, he doesn't seem to have much else to offer. Currently part of a Tag Team with Ace Youngblood, who is definitely carrying the team. Can't really see Max rising any further up the card than he already has.

</span>

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 3px 0px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/RickyTurner.jpg"></div><span>Ricky Douglas

Ricky Douglas is an average performer at best. And his mic skills are almost non existent. Luckily he has a great manager in Earnest Forthdyke-Hume to carry the load for him in that department. Still, Forthdyke-Hume's skills could be utilized better on somebody with the potential to rise up the card.</span>

LOWER MIDCARD

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 3px 0px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/CurtisJenkins_alt1.jpg"></div><span>Curtis Jenkins

Average. Just average. Can't see him being much more, although he has a decent enough tag team alongside Riley McManus.</span> " /></a></div>

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: right; margin: 0px 0px 3px 10px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/HueyCannonball.jpg"></div><span>

Huey Cannonball

Current Mid Atlantic Tag Team Champion

A good all rounder, Huey has potential. Currently one half of the Mid Atlantic Tag Team Champions with Jefferson Stardust, Cannonball could very well see himself in the upper tier within the next few years.

</span>

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 3px 0px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/RileyMcManus_alt1.jpg"></div><span>Riley McManus

Between Curtis Jenkins and Riley McManus, Riley seems to have the better upside. However neither are spectacular, and so I don't see either rising or falling on the card anytime in the near future.</span>

OPENERS

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 3px 0px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/JeffersonStardust.jpg"></div><span>Jefferson Stardust

Current Mid Atlantic Tag Team Champion

Despite being the weaker of the two in his partnership with Huey Cannonball, Stardust is still a hot prospect, and much like his partner has the potential to rise up the card</span>

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: right; margin: 0px 0px 3px 10px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/KeithVegas_alt1.jpg"></div><span>

Keith Vegas

.....wow. Just Wow. The fact that this man is even allowed in the business is a shock. The fact that Rip Chord has hired such a talentless individual is even more baffling. Utterly useless. Next...

</span>

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 3px 0px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/MrLuchaIII.jpg"></div><span>Mr Lucha III

Although yet to appear in MAW, I hear good things about this guy. Nephew of the original Mr. Lucha, Manuel Prieto, Mr. Lucha III is one to keep an eye on.</span>

So there you have it, a quick glimpse at the talent, as well as the lack of talent, that makes up the MAW roster. Coming up in Part Two, we'll take a look at the managers, Tag Teams and Stables of Mid Atlantic Wrestling, as well as the all important championship titles. Plus, we will announce what plans we have in store for you here on The Independent Corner.

The Independent Corner:

Mid Atlantic Wrestling

by Brock Johnson

Welcome to Part Two of my in depth look at Mid Atlantic Wrestling, run and operated by wrestling legend Rip Chord. In our last article we ran down the MAW Roster, from the Main Event all the way to the curtain jerkers. This time around we will focus on Tag Teams, Stables and Managers. We will also run down the major championship titles within the company. So lets kick things of by looking at the Tag Team Division.

TAG TEAMS:

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 3px 0px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/CameronVessey.jpg "></div><span> <div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 3px 0px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/CaseyValentine_alt1.jpg "></div><span>C-V-2

The team of Cameron Vessey and Casey Valentine are loaded with potential. Already potential break out stars in their own right, both men have proven to be a dominating force it the tag ranks, losing only THREE matches as a team throughout 2009. They will surely be looking to continue that success in 2010. No strangers to tag team glory, winning the Mid Atlantic Tag Team Championships in 2008, don't be surprised to see the gold around their waists yet again.

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: right; margin: 0px 0px 3px 10px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/HollywoodBretStarr.jpg"></div><span> <div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: right; margin: 0px 0px 3px 10px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/JayChord_alt1.jpg"></div><span>

Generation X

The team with possibly the best upside, Jay Chord and Brett Star are going places. The two seem to play off each other perfectly, with Chord playing up the role of stuck up, "better than you", Daddy's golden boy. And Brett is not just a Star by name, as he is loaded with charisma and really does most of the leg work when it comes to promos. Although Chord is vastly superior in the ring, it can only benefit Star to team with him and improve his ring work. I see a lengthy reign as tag champs in the very near future.

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 3px 0px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/AceYoungblood_alt1.jpg"></div><span><div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 3px 0px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/RandyMaxx_alt1.jpg"></div><span>The Aces of Mayhem

I stand by what I said in my earlier assessment of these two. I think Ace Youngblood has the potential to get a decent push in MAW. Max Mayhem? Not so much. However as a duo they are a fairly decent combination, as proven when they captured the Mid Atlantic Tag Team Titles. I see Youngblood branching off on his own at some point.

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: right; margin: 0px 0px 3px 10px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/CurtisJenkins_alt1.jpg"></div><span><div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: right; margin: 0px 0px 3px 10px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/RileyMcManus_alt1.jpg"></div><span>

The Atlantic Connection

What do you get when you put two mediocre wrestlers together? You get The Atlantic Connection. They work well as a team, but they really don't stand out in an otherwise exciting Tag Team Division.

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 3px 0px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/HueyCannonball.jpg"></div><span><div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 3px 0px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/JeffersonStardust.jpg"></div><span>The Awesomeness

Current Mid Atlantic Tag Team Champions

These two seem to compliment each other perfectly. With a little work and some quality opposition, I think these two could carry the Tag Team Division for years to come. However, I really don't think they are ready to carry the straps at this point in time. Their gimmick is still in the early stages, and the crowd have yet to really connect with them, so putting the belts on them now is in my opinion the wrong move. But these two will certainly be an integral part of the Division

STABLES:

http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/CameronVessey.jpghttp://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/CaseyValentine_alt1.jpghttp://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/HollywoodBretStarr.jpghttp://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/JayChord_alt1.jpg

The Succession

The Succession is an exciting Heel group consisting of four athletes with family connections within the business (Cameron Vessey, Casey Valentine, Jay Chord and Brett Star). Although a fairly new stable, they have already made a big impact within Mid Atlantic Wrestling, with Cameron Vessey in particular finally making a rise up the card. I think this could be good, this could be VERY good. However, I think certain egos may prevent it from happening. Only time will tell.

MANAGERS:

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 3px 0px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/ErnestForthdyke-Hume.jpg"></div><span>Ernest Forthdyke-Hume

Manages Ricky Douglas

This young brit certainly has a LOT of talent. Unfortunately at this point in time he is saddled with Ricky Douglas, a man who is really a lost cause. Forthdyke-Hume could be much better utilized, as he has a lot to offer in MAW.

<div style="text-align: left; margin: 10px 0px;"><div style="float: right; margin: 0px 0px 3px 10px;"><img src="http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/LisaBowen.jpg"></div><span>Lisa Bowen

Manages Jefferson Stardust

Daughter of SWF legend Barry "Runaway Train" Bowen, Lisa Bowen is slowly earning a reputation as a good valet, playing up her Diva personality to the hilt. She currently manages Jefferson Stardust, occasionally lending her talents to his partner Huey Cannonball. A good valet who has really helped Stardust in recent months.

CHAMPIONSHIPS:

http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/MAW_Championship.jpg

Mid Atlantic Championship

The Holy Grail of Mid Atlantic Wrestling, this is the title that EVERYONE is gunning for. Currently held by American Patriot, he has carried the title for close to 6 months, and I must say he has done a fantastic job. I'd like to see a lengthy reign for Patriot, but only time will tell.

http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/MAW_Tag.jpg

Mid Atlantic Tag Team Championships

Currently held by Huey Cannonball and Jefferson Stardust. The tag division in MAW at the moment is picking up steam, with The Awesomeness, Generation X and C-V-2 carrying the division. The main problem there is that they are all heel teams, and there really isn't a strong Babyface team to make a serious challenge. That really needs to change soon.

http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/MAW_Rip.jpg

The Rip Chord Invitational Challenge Trophy

Held in January each year, The Rip Chord Invitational Challenge has been a launching pad for many competitors careers, from American Patriot to last years winner Cameron Vessey. However this years may be the most important ever, as for the first time ever, the winner will receive a guaranteed title match within 12 months. This could be a great time to really shoot somebody into the upper reaches of Mid Atlantic Wrestling. I think this could be an extremely exciting year for the company, if they handle this well.

And so there you have it, an in depth look at Mid Atlantic Wrestling. I hope you have found this both useful and entertaining. In my next article I shall be reviewing MAW's brand new DVD release; January's MAW Rip Chord Invitational V. Here is a quick run down of the Card:

This looks interesting. I'll be following it.

Mid Atlantic Championship:

American Patriot © vs. Cameron Vessey

Don't see a title change happening on the first show.

Rip Chord Invitational Challenge Semi-Final:

Citizen X vs. Matthew Keith

Could go either way, but since I think a face will win the other match it would make sense for the heel to win this one.

Rip Chord Invitational Challenge Semi-Final:

King of Wrestling vs. Mean Jean Cattley

You pointed out that Mean Jean Cattley was the weakest of the main eventers and you planned to let him leave, so there's no reason for him to win here.

Rip Chord Invitational Challenge Final:

Keith vs. KoW

I don't think you'd book Jack Avatar or Mean Jean to win the invitational, so I'm hoping I guessed the other semi-final correctly and your planning to give the "Saving Grace of MAW" something else to brag about.

Generation X vs. The Aces of Mayhem

I'd be very surprised if they lost.

Citizen X is a cool gimmick but he really needs getting behind if its going to work. Cant see that happening here

Mr MAW needs to look good early on

Cattley is just the clear choice if Patriot isnt involved

Jay is a premier talent in the cverse. Ace Youngblood isnt.

American Patriot © vs. Cameron Vessey - It will be interesting to see how you set up the shows/thread the storylines through different events. Either way, too early for Patriot to lose.

Rip Chord Invitational Challenge Semi-Final:

Citizen X vs. Matthew Keith - Keith is young, and it will set up nicely for future runs.

Rip Chord Invitational Challenge Semi-Final:

King of Wrestling vs. Mean Jean Cattley - No need for KoW to win the match (SICK! render though...), he can lose, and people wouldn't think much of it with as much talent as he has.

Rip Chord Invitational Challenge Final:

Keith vs. Cattley - Cattley takes this. Again, gives Keith something to aim for.

Generation X vs. The Aces of Mayhem - Too soon for The Aces to split, though you allude to that in their bio. Perhaps a case of "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts."

Something special about the product? Are run ins allowed or do the fans frown upon them? If they're allowed, I see Citizen X interfering in the finals, otherwise, Cattley's experience carries him to the win.

I want to say Vessey as Patriot gets grabbed early by bigger companies...however its too soon for a title change.

Rip Chord Invitational Challenge Semi-Final:

Citizen X vs. Matthew Keith

Don't rate Citizen X

Rip Chord Invitational Challenge Semi-Final:

King of Wrestling vs. Mean Jean Cattley

One last title shot for Cattley before you either release him or change his gimmick

Rip Chord Invitational Challenge Final:

Keith vs. Cattley

Generation X vs. The Aces of Mayhem

Aces of Mayhem are pretty poor, plus you'll need to keep Jay's momentum up

The Independent Corner:

Mid Atlantic Wrestling Rip Chord Invitational V Review

by Brock Johnson

Welcome once again to The Independent Corner. And in this edition we will be reviewing MAW's latest DVD release; The Rip Chord Invitational V. This show was a mixed bag, but ultimately I believe was a step in the right direction for Mid Atlantic Wrestling. Seen as the biggest show of the year for MAW by many, Rip Chord and company always seem to pull off an exciting, and more importantly WATCHABLE show, which is more than can be said for many smaller promotions. So without further ado, here is my review on MAW's first, and possibly most IMPORTANT, show of the year.

MAW The Rip Chord Invitational V

January, Week 4, 2010

Held at Stanley Hall (Mid Atlantic)

Attendance: 122

The DVD kicks off with all four members of The Succession (Cameron Vessey, Casey Valentine, Jay Chord and Brett Starr) stood backstage to cut a promo. This was basically to hype Vessey's title match later in the evening against American Patriot, as Vessey did most of the talking here. He tried to get across the point that after winning The Rip Chord Invitational last year, it's only NOW that the brass in the office have finally stood up and took notice, giving him his deserved title shot. Vessey says tonight, there will be no Succession at ringside, nobody watching his back. Vessey says that tonight, a new era begins. He GUARANTEES that tonight he will walk out of Stanley Hall as the new Mid Atlantic Champion.

A decent promo to kick things off I thought, although it would have been nice to hear from all four members here. They seemed to be there simply to blend into the background, which is a shame seeing as Chord and Starr were also on the card, and this was a perfect opportunity to hype their match up too (plus, let's be honest, who DOESN'T want to hear Brett Starr on the mic?). However, it did a good job of getting Vessey's match over, and made him seem like a credible threat. F+

Generation X defeated The Aces of Madness

A decent little match here. Nothing spectacular, but solid nonetheless. As always, Jay Chord shone in this contest. Chord is going places, without a doubt. Starr is certainly improving, although he still needs a lot of work. But teaming with Jay can only help him. Ace and Max were their usual, average selves. D-

Backstage once again, this time with Citizen X. This was simply to hype his match with Matthew Keith in the Rip Chord Invitational. X stated that he has sat back for too long, allowing this "New Breed" to walk into HIS company and try to take HIS spot. Citizen X says that Keith is just another pretty boy who's daddy broke him into the business and now he believes he is owed everything. Tonight, he aims to show Keith that in MAW, you EARN what you get. And tonight, Keith will walk out with absolutely nothing.

Another fine promo by one of the best talkers in the company. As I've stated before, I believe Citizen X would be better off suited in a heel role, but there's no denying he is a hit with the MAW fans, I just believe he could be better utilized. but this promo did it job. Can't ask for more than that. E+

Matthew Keith defeats Citizen X in Rip Chord Invitational Semi-Finals

Another decent match here, but again nothing spectacular. Keith going over was the right move in my view, as I believe he has a bigger up side than Citizen X. However he did pick up the win by pulling the tights, so this could lead into something more, and a return match seems inevitable between the two. Citizen X attempted to give chase following the contest but Keith quickly bolted to the back. X looked visibly upset after the match. Could this be the beginnings of a slow heel turn? I hope so. D-

To the back we go once again (MAW sure does love these backstage promos for their DVD's although it does its job of getting the talent over)where Ernest Forthdyke-Hume is present with his client Ricky Douglas. Hume explains that Douglas' recent losing streak is all thanks to Findlay O'Farraday walking away from them when they needed him most. Douglas looked upset at Hume's words as he stated that he and Douglas are brave enough to admit that they need O'Farraday, and they say he has until next months Wrestling Classics event to make up his mind and join them once again. Hume closes by warning that if Findlay makes the wrong decision, he may well regret it.

By the looks of it, Findlay is set to be featured more in MAW. Shoot me now. I really don't see the attraction of the man. There are rumours however that MAW are looking to bring in a monster heel to feud with him, which could either be a shot in the arm to O'Farraday's career, or it could be a complete snooze fest. Also, as much as I find Ricky Douglas kind of bland and uninteresting, he seemed to be an afterthought in this promo. Not sure how this losing streak angle is helping him really. Still, Ernest Forthdyke-Hume continues to impress as a manager. F+

http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/KingofWrestling.jpg vs. http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/MeanJeanCattley_alt1.jpg

King of Wrestling defeats Mean Jean Cattley in Rip Chord Invitational Semi-Final

Match of the night by far. King of Wrestling is in my view the best all round performer in the company. And he really brought out the best in Cattley, who's recent showings haven't been the greatest. However I'll give credit where it's due; Cattley held his own and put on a good performance. The fact that King of Wrestling went over went to prove that MAW is slowly phasing out some of the older stars to make way for the future. Following the match Cattley sat in the centre of the ring, head in his hands. But he looked genuinely distraught. I'm not sure if this is leading to anything, and knowing Cattley's close friendship with Chord, I can't see him leaving the company. But I do hope this is the beginning of at least a new direction for the character. C

Promo time again, this time with Mid Atlantic Champion American Patriot. He was here to hype his title defence against Cameron Vessey. Patriot commends Vessey on not involving his Succession Stable mates in their contest, praising his in ring ability and saying he is a superstar in the making. But he makes it clear that he should not mistake his praise for weakness, because he plans to walk away at the end of the night STILL Mid Atlantic Champion. He also had a slight jab at King of Wrestling, stating that much like Vessey wants to go at it alone, Patriot says he neither wants or NEEDS an so called "Masked Marvel" watching his back.

I really liked this promo. American Patriot is a straight laced baby face without being overly fan friendly, kissing babies etc. And he really put his opponent over, which seems to be a lost art in the day and age where people seem to be out for themselves. But what I have really enjoyed is how Patriot seems to be having small digs at King of Wrestling. KoW has been trying to gain the approval of Patriot since his arrival to no success. And it seems Patriot seems to have a hint of jealousy to him since his arrival. This looks to be a slow build to an eventual feud between these two babyfaces, and I for one am excited to see where it leads. D-

Mid Atlantic Championship Match:

American Patriot defeats Cameron Vessey to retain Mid Atlantic Championship

A strong performance by Vessey in this contest, and at one point it did seem that Vessey was walking away as the new Mid Atlantic Champion. Patriot was able to pick up the win however with a furious Back Fist, which looked absolutely sick, before finishing things with Stars and Strikes (his vicious flurry of chops, fists and finishing with a Super Kick). Patriot has done well to carry the title, and has really bought prestige to the belt. I hope his reign continues. Post match, The Succession ran down and put a beating on Patriot until King of Wrestling sprinted to the ring and chased them away. KoW tried to help Patriot to his feet, but he pushed him away and headed to the back. Another nice little moment to help build the feud. D-

Next up saw a fun little skit, where Mid Atlantic Tag Team Champions Huey Cannonball and Jefferson Stardust, The Awesomeness, roamed the busy city streets outside Stanley Hall, equipped with only a hand-held camera (and their beautiful manager Lisa Bowen), causing mayhem and talking to random passers by, trying to get them to say a few words about "Their favourite Tag Team in the world". The fun begins when the majority of people asked didn't have a clue who they were, causing them to throw a fit and berate their manager, who in turn pouted her lips and put her hand in their face before walking off. No real point to this segment, but a fun segment nonetheless. I see a definite face turn in the future, they are very easy to like, and they seem to genuinely be having fun in these skits and segments. E

Rip Chord Invitational Finals:

http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/KingofWrestling.jpg vs. http://i915.photobucket.com/albums/ac355/jwforever316a/MAW/MatthewKeith.jpg

Matthew Keith defeats King of Wrestling to become 2010 Rip Chord Invitational Winner

Another great match involving King of Wrestling. These two have a good chemistry together, everything in the match just seemed to flow. I wouldn't be upset to see these two lock up again in the near future. I would have been happy to see either man win the tournament, but I believe Keith is the right choice. He, in my view, is a future star for a major promotion, and I think it will do no harm in people being able to look back in years to come and see that MAW was once the home of Matthew Keith. Keith will carry MAW in some form or another until he heads to the big time, I'm certain of that. The finish of this match caused some controversy however, when it seemed KoW had the match won when Mean Jean Cattley jumped on the apron and tried to pull the mask of KoW off in retaliation for his loss earlier. This gave Keith the chance to nail the Snapshot Jaw Breaker (Stunner) to get the victory. I'm not usually a fan of finishes like that, especially for something as important as the Rip Chord Invitational Trophy, but it served it's purpose in building up to the next few months of stories. C-

Following the contest we saw a two on one mugging of King of Wrestling by both Keith and Cattley, laying the boots to him. That is until American Patriot shockingly sprinted to the ring and cleaned house, sending Keith and Mean Jean packing. KoW extended his hand to Patriot, who looked at it before just brushing past him as if he wasn't there. They really are slowly building this feud. It's little moments like that I really like. They are building to a programme without actually feuding as such. I like it. E

And so there you have it, MAW Rip Chord Invitational is in the bag. An enjoyable show. Nothing too shocking or surprising took place, but it built nicely towards their next event, MAW Wrestling Classics.I give this show a D+ rating. Impressive showing. Join us again next time when I will preview MAW's next DVD release: MAW Wrestling Classics. Thanks for reading, stay safe.

The Independent Corner:

Mid Atlantic Wrestling

by Brock Johnson

Welcome once again to The Independent Corner, where today we will be running down the card for MAW's next DVD release, Wrestling Classic. Wrestling Classic has always been a kind of hit and miss event for MAW, with so much expectation coming off one of their bigger shows of the year, The Rip Chord Invitational. How will 2010's edition hold up against past events? Let's run down the card.

In the Main Event of the show, American Patriot begrudgingly joins forces with The King of Wrestling to take on the team of Mean Jean Cattley and the 2010 Rip Chord Invitational Winner, Matthew Keith. An interesting dynamic in this one, with Cattley costing King of Wrestling the Rip Chord Invitational Trophy. But the big story will be how American Patriot and KoW will coexist. Since his début in MAW, and without uttering a single word, KoW has made clear that he wants to win the approval of American Patriot. But for an unknown reason, Patriot wants no part of him. Is there a past between the two? Is it jealousy? Who knows. But I like where the stories going and it'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

Also on the card, Citizen X will face the leader of The Succession, Cameron Vessey. This contest will see two men looking to win back some momentum after their respective loses at Rip Chord Invitational V. Vessey came extremely close to walking away from the event as Mid Atlantic Champion before falling short at the last hurdle. But it will be more interesting to see where Citizen X's head will be at, as following his defeat to Matthew Keith, Citizen X spent the next few days posting a number of cryptic, quite disturbing messages on his Chatterbox account. Messages such as "What's the point any more", "Maybe they were right..."and more recently "R.I.P X". I kinda like the idea of furthering certain stories using the power of the internet. A smart move, especially for a smaller company like MAW. Can't wait to see where it goes.

The Mid Atlantic Tag Team Championships will be defended at Wrestling Classic when The Awesomeness (Huey Cannonball and Jefferson Stardust) defend their titles against Aces of Madness ( Ace Youngblood and Max Mayhem) and Generation X (Brett Starr and Jay Chord). I'm a firm believer that if you want a title to seem important, you need to have it defended as often as possible. This is the first time the Tag Team Title has been defended in 3 MONTHS! I think dropping the titles after such a long spell of not defending them would make The Awesomeness look weak. However, I firmly believe it's only a matter of time before Starr and Chord are carrying the gold. Would like to see where this one leads.

And Mr. Lucha III finally makes his début against Ricky Douglas. Douglas and his manger, Ernest Forthdyke-Hume, are currently embroiled in a rivalry with Findlay O'Farraday, attempting to enlist his services once again. But it is Mr. Lucha III début that I am in particular looking forward to, as I've heard many good things about him. Douglas may be as bland as they come, but I think he should be able to get a decent match out of him.

Match Line-Up:

American Patriot & King of Wrestling vs. Matthew Keith & Mean Jean Cattley

Cameron Vessey vs. Citizen X

Mid Atlantic Tag Team Championship:

The Awesomeness © vs. Aces of Madness vs. Generation X

Mr. Lucha III vs. Ricky Douglas

A decent looking card which could throw a few surprises at us. Join us next time for my in depth review on MAW Wrestling Classic 2010. Stay safe.

Match Line-Up:

American Patriot & King of Wrestling vs. Matthew Keith & Mean Jean Cattley

A win for the heels establishes them as title contenders and furthers the tensions between the faces.

Cameron Vessey vs. Citizen X

Citizen X's potential heel turn makes this a little hard to predict, but I'll take Vessey to win here.

Mid Atlantic Tag Team Championship:

The Awesomeness © vs. Aces of Madness vs. Generation X

It's a bit quick for a title change, but they do seem to be the best team in the match up.

Mr. Lucha III vs. Ricky Douglas

Ricky Douglas is pretty mediocre, so I'll take Mr. Lucha III to win in his debut.

Good luck with this and I hope you enjoy the C-Verse, back in the days when I played EWR and TEW 04 came out I was totally turned off by the idea of a fictional universe which resulted in me just sticking with EWR. However in 08 I got sick of EWR and upgraded to TEW and although I was hesistant to play the C-Verse I thought it was awesome and now I don't even bother with real world mods. Anyways enough of my advertisment of the C-Verse in this dyansty and again good luck with it hope you don't go bankrupt with them as I did and it was the only promotion I have ever gone bankrupt with since I started playing TEW. Finally gotta say I really like your format, and it was a big reason why I started reading!
