Canadian Wrestling Federation: Return of The Canadian Superstar

Recommended Posts

June 2012

My name is Jonathan Andrews. I'm a 25 year old graduate of the University of Manitoba, now living in the big city of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I found employment fresh out of school, but nothing that has really fulfilled my need for excitement, my desire to live dangerously, to excel athletically. From an early age I've wanted to entertain people. To make them laugh – to give them joy and hope.

For those reasons I have for the last three years been trained in the fine art of professional wrestling by some of the true legends of the sport: Jean-Pierre Baptiste, Whipper Spencer Marks, and my grandfather, Jackson Andrews. You may not recognize his name right off, but I'm sure you've heard of “The Canadian Superstar”. Well, that was my Grandpa. For years he was the center-piece of the largest wrestling company in Canada, the Canadian Wrestling Federation. He retired when I was very young, but some of my favorite memories as a child were watching his old matches from the old CWF shows. He and his two friends agreed to work with me reluctantly at first. They are not big fans of what the wrestling industry has become. They considered themselves fortunate to come out of it with their health and financial well-being secure. Many of their friends weren't so lucky.

After a lot of persistence, hard-work and determination on my part, however, I proved that wrestling was something I wanted to do. These three fine men sacrificed time and energy to show me the physical and psychological arts of wrestling. And today I stand, I humbly believe, as one of the best and most thoroughly trained prospects in the wrestling industry.

It came as no surprise to me in the early summer of 2012 when my grandfather called me out to his summer home on the lake to catch up with him and my other two mentors. I'd been wrestling in a few local shows for a few months, and I was certain they wanted a chance to see how I was adjusting to my new life. Whipper, JP, Grandpa and I sat on the deck of the cottage that Saturday evening, watching as the sun set over the lake. It was then that my grandfather hit me with a startling revelation: he and his friends had pooled a significant amount of their resources and acquired the name and rights to the Canadian Wrestling Federation. In their twilight years, their desire was to see the company that had given them so much revived and bring excitement and entertainment to a whole new generation of Canadian wrestling fans. They trusted my skills and mind for the business enough to give me a large role in the centre of the company. They wanted to run their first show this fall.

I was dumbfounded. More so when my grandfather passed me a small, rectangular gift box. I opened it. Inside, folded neatly, in blazing red and white, was an exact replica of the mask he had worn as The Canadian Superstar. He stated that it was his wish that I carry that mantle forward and lead this new company to big things.

Overwhelmed with emotion I was unable to speak. JP smiled as well, his eyes brimming with tears. Whipper, never one comfortable with sappy displays, cleared his throat and said our business was not over yet. He tossed a folder in front of me filled with glossy 8x10 photos of various Canadian wrestlers. Our first event, he explained, would hold the beginning of a 16 man tournament for the CWF Canadian National championship (a belt held at some time by all 3 men sitting with me). If we were going to get the CWF off the ground over the next few months, I had to find 15 other worthy competitors to fill the brackets of this tournament. Who could I call on?

Wow, thanks for the early encouragement folks! So who do you think should get the invite to this prestigious tournament? Only the best Canada has to offer, of course. I'm thinking it needs at least one Stone and one DeColt to carry on their father's legacies. But any other workers out there, free agents or otherwise, who you think deserve a shot at making history?

Only restriction - they have to be Canadian. I have a few in mind but I'd love to hear some feedback! Hope to make this as interactive as possible.

Lee Bennett or Alexander Robinson if you can somehow manage to get them from PGHW!

GHOSTBUSTERS!

Lee Bennett or Alexander Robinson if you can somehow manage to get them from PGHW!

THIS OH GOD THIS. Although it'd have to be via a talent trade. Raymond Diaz, however, is not loyal to them, and you could get Lee Wright if you wanted that team...

Now then, I've sorted the default data for Canadian active wrestlers who have already debuted. Guys that would be great (though your size/agreements could be a touch problematic):

  • Acid
  • ____ DeColt
  • ____ Stone
  • Angry Gilmore
  • Art Reed (cannot get, as he is touring)
  • Biff the Bruiser (DAT POWER)
  • Bob Casey
  • Bobby Thomas
  • Bryan Holmes
  • Cal Sanders
  • Canadian Dragon

Impressive suggestions all round. Just to set your mind at ease - pay no heed to existing contract restrictions. Although I will be using the default data this diary takes place in an "alternate timeline" (one where, say, Steve DeColt never defected to NOTBPW).

I am just going to pick and choose the characters I want and use the editor to sign them. With only a few months remaining before the release of 2013 I just wanted to do a project with characters I would enjoy working with.

Steve DeColt vs. Omar Brown

-Omar doesn't win this one over such a legend, but with a push, he can be huge for you.

Jeremy Stone vs. Alexander Robinson

-Because he's an effing Stone.

The Canadian Superstar vs. Biff the Bruiser

-Go User Character, Go!

Whippy the Clown vs. Davis Wayne Newton

-The hottest prospect in Canadian Wrestling

Joey Poison vs. Acid

-The biggest toss up, I'm undecided so I picked one without thinking about it and that's who I'm going with :p

Steve Flash vs. Larry Wood

-The other big toss up here, Larry's a psychopath and I hate that but it hurts ratings

Thrill Seeker vs. Angry Gilmore

-The third person on this list who could carry the company on his own (After Stone & DeColt)

Raphael vs. Constable Dallas McWade

-While I don't love the gimmick, he still wouldn't lose to Raph

CWF 1

The Return

Live in front of a sold out crowd of 1,000 people

The Superstar Speaks

http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o629/cgstark/wmma/CanadianSuperstar-1.jpg

The first show under the banner of the Canadian Wrestling Federation since 1989 opened up with a rocked up version of the Canadian national anthem playing. From the backstage area a figure emerged, dressed entirely in red and white. He carried the Canadian flag with him as he made his way to the ring. Fans young and old began to cheer as they recognized the mask the man wore that identified him as The Canadian Superstar, a hero for many years north of the border. Grabbing a microphone the Superstar thanked all the fans for being in attendance, saying the show was officially sold out! He guaranteed that the CWF will bring the fans the best wrestling action Canada has to offer, starting tonight with the first round of a 16 man tournament for the CWF National Championship. He gave a brief rundown of the history of some of the biggest names that have held the title: Dan Stone, George DeColt, Rip Chord, etc. He said that wearing this mask he represented each and every Canadian and would do his best to claim that title for the people of the country that he loves so much!

The Canadian Superstar vs. Biff the Bruiser

  • As soon as the Superstar was finished the physically imposing Biff the Bruiser made his way down to the ring. He charged like a mad bull at the Superstar with a powerful clothesline, but it was ducked and met with a beautiful dropkick.
  • Infuriated, Biff attacked with several more clubbing blows, eventually backing the Superstar into the corner. The crowd cheering him on, The Canadian Superstar powered his way out, reversing Biff into the corner and hitting a Tornado DDT for the pin. The Canadian Superstar grabbed the flag and celebrated with the fans after the victory.
  • Winner: The Canadian Superstar
    Match rating: 51

http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o629/cgstark/wmma/JoeyPoison.jpg VS. http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o629/cgstark/wmma/Acid.jpg

Joey Poison vs. Acid

  • Fan favorite Joey Poison was in trouble early in this one due to the high intensity attack from Acid. Falling victim to a thrust kick and flying clothesline, Poison managed to turn the tables after rolling out of the way of Acid's moonsault.
  • After absorbing a high knee and running powerslam, Acid again went on the offensive after raking the eyes of Poison. Acid went to the top rope to hit a flying body press, but Poison used the momentum to roll him into the Antidote Web for the victory and to advance to the next round of the tournament.
  • Winner: Joey Poison
    Match Rating: 66

http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o629/cgstark/wmma/Raphael.jpg VS. http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o629/cgstark/wmma/DallasMcWade_alt2.jpg

Raphael vs. Constable Dallas McWade

  • Young Raphael was immediately outclassed and humiliated by the more experienced and much larger Constable McWade. McWade slapped the youngster across the face before engaging in a tie up and throwing him almost the entire length of the ring.
  • Things didn't get much better for Raphael from there as McWade slammed, suplexed and eventually hit the Murder On the Mountain for the victory. McWade continued his abuse by pulling zip-ties out of his uniform and restraining Raphael's hands behind his back. Propping him up in the corner he laid several boots into the unprotected youngster before being escorted from the ring by officials.
  • Winner: Constable McWade
    Match Rating: 49

http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o629/cgstark/wmma/SteveFlash.jpg VS. http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o629/cgstark/wmma/LarryWood.jpg

Steve Flash vs. Larry Wood

  • Two superstars who had really made their names internationally returned to Canadian soil next. From the beginning the larger Wood was frustrated by numerous counters by a more technically sound Steve Flash. After clotheslining Flash to the outside Wood totally snapped and began choking Flash across the guard rail.
  • Referee Coach Norman, not wanting to see the match end in a double count-out, jumped to the outside and tried to pull Wood off his opponent. Wood shoved Norman to the ground and continued to choke Flash. Norman called for the bell and declared Flash the winner by DQ. Wood truly went psychotic at that point and chased the official back to the locker room area. Flash, meanwhile, was helped back by some event staff.
  • Winner: Steve Flash
    Match rating: 53

http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o629/cgstark/wmma/WhippyTheClown.jpg VS. http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o629/cgstark/wmma/DavisWayneNewton.jpg

Whippy the Clown vs. Davis Wayne Newton

  • These two young athletes set a frenetic pace and provided good action for the fans. Whippy took the advantage hitting a spinning heel kick and flying forearm that knocked Newton to the outside. Newton, frustrated, grabbed the timekeeper and threw him to the ground, picking up his steel folding chair and throwing it over the top rope and into the ring.
  • While the ref cleared the chair out of there, Whippy took his eyes off Newton for a moment. Davis quickly slid back inside and scored a powerful clothesline to the back of the Clown's head. Newton made the cover as Coach Norman turned back around. He didn't notice Newton using the ropes for leverage and counted three, giving the Triple Threat a spot in the second round. Whippy got some small measure of revenge in the end however, as he sportingly went to shake Newton's hand. The cocky Newton smugly took the handshake but the joke was on him as Whippy had concealed a joy buzzer and it proved to be a “shocking” experience for DWN!
  • Winner: DWN
    Match rating: 60

Angry Introduction

http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o629/cgstark/wmma/AngryGilmore.jpg

Former SWF superstar Angry Gilmore made his way to the ring and grabbed a microphone. He ranted about never having been respected in Canada for his whole career. He had to go elsewhere to earn the respect he deserved, working alongside the biggest names in the wrestling world. He declared he was back here for one reason only; not to pay back a country that has given him nothing, but to embarrass the so-called national heroes here. He would prove he had risen above any wrestlers that Canada had to offer.

Segment Rating: 78

http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o629/cgstark/wmma/ThrillSeeker.jpg VS. http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o629/cgstark/wmma/AngryGilmore.jpg

Thrill Seeker vs. Angry Gilmore

  • By the way he sprinted down to the ring it was obvious Thrill Seeker took exception to Gilmore's comments. He set a fast pace that left Gilmore bewildered with hip tosses, arm drags and flying elbows.
  • Gilmore rolled to the outside to try and collect himself and Thrill Seeker made the error of trying to hit him on the outside with a flying axehandle. The veteran Gilmore saw it coming and stepped aside, allowing Thrill Seeker to connect with the guard rail. From there Gilmore rolled him back into the ring and was able to control the action, eventually picking up the win with an Anger Management.
  • Winner: Angry Gilmore
    Match Rating: 68

Stone Solid

http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o629/cgstark/wmma/JeremyStone.jpg

A music video was played featuring highlights of the wrestling exploits of Jeremy Stone. In the video various fans, wrestling commentators and superstars offered their comments on how the Stones defined Canadian wrestling and how Jeremy was the best they had to offer. The video ended with a segment from Dan Stone Sr. giving his blessing to Jeremy and telling him that he knew he would do the family proud by capturing the CWF National Championship.

http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o629/cgstark/wmma/JeremyStone.jpg VS. http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o629/cgstark/wmma/AlexanderRobinson.jpg

Jeremy Stone vs. Alexander Robinson

  • The best match of the night so far featured two of the most experienced members of the roster. Robinson and Stone traded technical moves and holds early on, but it soon became clear Alexander just did not have what it took to put Stone away on this night.
  • To the crowd's elation Jeremy Stone defeated Alexander Robinson by submission with a Stone Hold.
  • Winner: Jeremy Stone
    Match Rating: 74

DeColt Promises Victory

http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o629/cgstark/wmma/SteveDeColt.jpg

The crowd went absolutely nuts as the one and only Steve DeColt emerged from the back. A broad smile plastered on his face, he tagged hands on his way down to the ring, taking time to make the day of several fans by posing for pictures. When he finally made it to the ring he got the stick and got the crowd even more worked up. He talked about how his father had been a champion here in CWF when he was just a kid and how special that had always been to the family. He was proud to now be given the chance to carry on that legacy. He was entering and would win the CWF National Championship because in this country, nobody could stop a DeColt!

Segment Rating: 91

http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o629/cgstark/wmma/SteveDeColt.jpg VS. http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o629/cgstark/wmma/OmarBrown.jpg

Steve DeColt vs. Omar Brown

  • Omar Brown is an angry man. That much was certain by the ferocity with which he tore into Steve DeColt. He peppered him with punches and risked DQ on more than one occasion by loading up on punches in the corner. As DeColt tried to recover against the ropes, Brown charged at him. DeColt ducked and backdropped him over the top to the floor. He followed him outside and whipped him back and forth from the apron to the guard rail.
  • The two headed back inside where Brown once again took the offensive by catching DeColt in a fallaway slam. He got a near fall from that and another after hitting a headbutt. He threw DeColt to the ropes, but Steve ducked under the clothesline and on the return pass hit the DeColt Stampede for the 3 count!
  • Brown was upset after the match and DeColt rolled to the outside, giving him space and backing his way up the ramp while celebrating with those fans lucky enough to high five him on the way to the back.
  • Winner: Steve DeColt
    Match rating: 75

Overall Show Rating: 75
