Derek B Posted November 20, 2012 Share Posted November 20, 2012 I spent some time earlier today trying to make a team on Xcom multiplayer... felt like I was naked given how rubbish your team is with just 10,000 points to play with. Was about to go fight but there didn't appear to be anyone else online for it at the time, which doesn't surprise me much but did make me a little sad. Not sure if it would help to have my Steam name or not, I'm "DerekB83" which should show up as "Chairman of the Bored" I think. Message me through Steam and if I'm available I'd love to give it a try. Also going to try going up to the last difficulty... I've never had a wipe so far nor have I lost enough nations for the game to end. In classic I lost 6 nations (Africa, South America and 1 Asian, where I was based) but I think on the toughest setting I'm gonna get wiped at least once early on and really suffer. But I'm up for the challenge, will jsut have to find some time to do it in since I've got quite a lot to do just now and I'm mostly getting amped up for new TEW. I'm kind of ticked at the last couple of games. One I was going strong, no one panicking, and then, three missions later, I'm down five countries, have no money, and no soldiers. This latest game just hacked me off. On an escort mission, if the target makes it to the skyranger, but the last soldier dies before killing all the aliens, shouldn't that be a "success"? If I see it and don't see anything else that catches my interest I'll probably snag it for PS3 since I don't think my laptop could run it. *Edit* Well, XCOM actually sold out within 10 minutes of the sale starting...Got Spec OPs The Line, Fall of Cybertron, and WWE 13 though. After my success on Classic with my previous game I just took a break from doing other things to start an Iron Man game on Impossible. And it was brutal. First mission saw me lose 2 soldiers (a one hit kill and one bled out with no medikits available yet) against 8 sectiods... and one thing I didn't know heading in was that your own starting health scales to difficulty... so just 3HP+1HP for armour against Sectoids with 4HP. For the most part, that means they are taking 2 hits to die and I am taking 1 or 2. Very ouch! So yeah, 2 soldiers down... others promoted to Sniper and Assault. Second mission, an alien abduction in Brazil. I've got assault, sniper and 2 rookies. Straight away I find some aliens and because we're all noobs soldiers at this point, it's hard to hit them. I take 2 down, only for 3 more to pop up in the alien turn, blow the cover of one guy away and then kill him. My assault moves up the side, runs and guns a couple down over the next couple of turns while my sniper does what she can, which isn't much at this point. My other rookie moves forward to grenade range, hurts a cluster of them but sniper can't finish the job. Rookie is then shot to death too. Meanwhile, my assault 3 of them going on the other side, taking 2 down, then a little damage... he then moves into a great position next to one, covered from the ones my sniper can see. Shotgun, point blank, 100% to hit, 70% critical... 4 damage. But obviously, the alien is boosted by the help from the ones far away that my sniper can't hit for love nor money... and so my assault dies. Sniper manages two more turns and one more kill before she dies too. 7 aliens dead, at least 3 more to go... and my squad is wiped. First time I've been wiped, I did not like that message at all! So yeah... I think I'll have to start that over and try harder next time. Not sure when that'll be as with TEW on the horizon I'm gonna find it tough to get away from that, but I'm not gonna let these aliens win! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Big Roguey Posted May 26, 2013 Share Posted May 26, 2013 Bit of a necro bump here but has anyone ever tried playing XCOM in a group of people? It is pretty much one of my most played games with friends on the Xbox, personally I find it much more fun playing it in a group than by myself as usual two camps open up. One camp (me) is focusing on splattering as many alien scum as possible with heavys and assaults whilst another camp annoyingly looks through every recruit trying to pick out potential snipers. And the character I control (we do pass the controller, each person takes control of a character) usually ends up a sniper, infuriating the leader of Camp Sniper. Deamon Posted May 27, 2013 Share Posted May 27, 2013 I do a similar thing with my friend, in that I screen-share the game with him and we split the squad in half. It's way more fun that it sounds since you can do some cool things. It seems to work better in the older games though since the squad size is much bigger.
