WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING!

Saturday Week 1 September 1989

Location: Black River Coliseum (Mid West)

Attendance: 4,163

Overall Rating: B

TV Rating: 1.48

Match #1

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/kevinsullivan.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/mikerotundo.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/bobbyeaton.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/stanlane.jpg

Varsity Club vs. Midnight Express

[NWA's World Championship Wrestling begins with the arrival of the Midnight Express coming down to the ring for this opening tag team encounter. The fans are definitely behind the Midnight Express and the cheers turn to boos when the Varsity Club comes down to the ring. The tag team match shows some good action and a good crowd as the two teams go back and forth. Kevin Sullivan was caught with a double flapjack for a two count by Midnight Express. Things turned around for the Varsity Club when Mike Rotundo came in and struck Stan Lane with a couple of knee lifts to the ribs. Rotundo catches Lane with a short-arm back elbow smash. The end comes when there is some miscommunication between Bobby Eaton and Stan Lane. Eaton strikes Lane with a clothesline when Rotundo ducks. Kevin Sullivan comes in and knocks Eaton out of the ring while Rotundo rolls up Lane, placing his feet on the ropes for leverage: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winners: Varsity Club (Via Pinfall @ 8:29)

Match Rating: B-

[Bobby Eaton slides in the ring following the pinfall as both members of the Varsity Club escape. Eaton helps Stan Lane to his feet and Lane shoves Eaton back. The two get into an argument in the ring, obviously over this major loss to the Varsity Club. The argument is short-lived, though, with both men exiting the ring together. Though the tension between the two men is obvious.]

[We move to the podium where Jim Ross and Gordon Solie talk about the history of the NWA. Speaking of that history, they bring out the NWA World champion Ric Flair. Ric is asked about his tag team encounter with Terry Funk and Lex Luger tonight. Ric talks about the ability to style and profile with his partner later this evening. Before he can continue, he is interrupted by the presence of 'Magnum' Scott Hall. Hall says that the only reason that Ric Flair is still the NWA World champion is that he hasn't faced Scott Hall. Ric says that Scott Hall is NOT the second coming of Magnum T.A. And if he wants a match then all he has to do is walk that aisle next week on the Power Hour and Ric Flair will give him a match. Hall agrees and flicks a toothpick in the face of Ric Flair! Hall smiles and walks away with Flair shaking his head and talking about disrespect.]

Match #2

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/mikeshaw2.jpg w/ http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/theadorerlong.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/jasonknight.jpg

Norman The Lunatic vs. Jason Knight

[An extremely short match that had Jason Knight already in the ring and then the arrival of Norman The Lunatic. Norman absolutely dominates the match with Jason Knight, though the two of them show a great chemistry in this contest. Norman body slams Jason Knight to the mat and bounces off the ropes -- Karachi Krunch -- the seated senton has Norman sitting on the body and shoulders of Jason Knight: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: Norman The Lunatic (Via Pinfall @ 2:24)

Match Rating: D

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/ricflairc.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/eddiegilbert.jpg

[We move to the backstage area where a hidden camera has been set up and catches an interaction between Ric Flair and 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert. The two men shake hands and exchange pleasantries before Eddie asks Ric if he needs a mystery partner for tonight. Eddie offers his services but Ric declines, saying he's already got the mystery partner role filled. Eddie asks him who it is and Ric just smiles. He says that tonight everyone is going to find out at the same time just who the partner is. Ric continues down the hallway and Eddie looks a little put-off by Ric not saying anything.]

Match #3

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/billirwin2.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/oleanderson.jpg

Bill Irwin vs. Ole Anderson

[Another extremely short match as Bill Irwin is already in the ring when we come back from that backstage segment. Irwin cracks the bullwhip before the match and that is about the only offensive thing he gets in at this moment. Ole Anderson dominates for nearly three minutes, focusing on the arm and back of Irwin. Anderson holds Irwin in an armbar and the cameras focus on a sign reading: '4 Horsemen 4 Ever!' Anderson sends Irwin to the ropes -- Spinebuster! Anderson makes the cover, holding up four fingers: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: Ole Anderson (Via Pinfall @ 2:45)

Match Rating: D

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/bobcaudle.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/garyhart.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/terryfunk2.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/luger.jpg

[We move to the podium where Bob Caudle introduces the two men that will be facing Ric Flair and a mystery partner later on tonight: Terry Funk and Lex Luger, along with their manager Gary Hart. Gary Hart gets on the microphone and explains how the team of Funk and Luger came about. The Great Muta has some business to take care of over in Japan this evening so Lex Luger volunteered to take Muta's spot in this match tonight and who better than the NWA United States Heavyweight champion, right? Terry Funk gets on the microphone and says that he is going to make sure that Ric Flair does not make it to Fall Brawl and their I Quit match for the NWA World title. He says that tonight he is going to break that banana nose and leave the mystery partner to the Total Package. Lex Luger says that no matter who the mystery partner is, it cannot be someone with a better body than the Total Package.]

Match #4

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/ironsheik.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/ripmorgan.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/JackVictory.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/RickSteiner3.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/ScottSteiner22.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/brianpillman.jpg w/ http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/missyhyatt.jpg

The Iron Sheik, Rip Morgan and Jack Victory vs. The Steiners and Flyin' Brian

[six man tag team action here as the Steiners team with Flyin' Brian to take on The Iron Sheik, Rip Morgan and Jack Victory. Early in the match, Flyin' Brian comes off the top turnbuckles to catch all three members of his opponents with a cross body block outside the ring! The crowd cheers this move, though one fan holds up a sign reading: 'The Iron Sheik will make you ALL humble!' Rick Steiner shows off the Steinerlines and overhead belly to belly suplexes. Scott Steiner catches Rip Morgan with a tilt-a-whirl suplex and then calls for his finisher! He sends Rip Morgan to the ropes -- Frankensteiner! Steiner makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winners: The Steiners and Flyin' Brian (Via Pinfall @ 5:17)

Match Rating: C-

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/terryfunk2.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/oleanderson.jpg

[We move to another one of those hidden cameras backstage. This one picks up right in the middle of an assault by Terry Funk on Ole Anderson! Funk throws some punches on Anderson, knocking him back against a wall. He rams Anderson's head back against the wall again and again and again. Anderson is shoved down to his knees, blood shown on the back of his head. Funk throws a hard punch to the back of Anderson's head, bringing him down to the ground. Funk picks up the branding iron and chokes Anderson with it! Anderson coughs and sputters and tries to fight back but eventually he is choked out. Funk releases and smiles as he walks away, leaving a downed and bloody Ole Anderson.]

[We are taken back to the podium where Teddy Long is shown with his tag team: The Skyscrapers. Footage is shown of the King of the Hill battle royal that the Skyscrapers won at the Great American Bash. Back with Sid Vicious and Dan Spivey posing at the podium, Teddy Long hypes his tag team, stating that they are the best and most dominating tag team in the world today. He states that they are even better than the Road Warriors! He says that Hawk and Animal are the 80's and that the Skyscrapers are going to lead tag team wrestling into the 1990's!]

Match #5

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/kendonagasaki.jpg w/ http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/garyhart.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/eddiegilbert.jpg w/ http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/missyhyatt.jpg

The Dragonmaster vs. 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert

[An extremely short match here where the entrances for the two men were actually longer than the match itself. The Dragonmaster got in no offense whatsoever, much to the chagrin of Gary Hart at ringside. Gilbert catches The Dragonmaster with a piledriver in the center of the ring and then grabs the legs: Figure 4 Leglock! The Dragonmaster struggles, trying not to submit but Gilbert learned this hold from the master of the Figure 4: Ric Flair. Eventually, The Dragonmaster has to submit.]

Winner: 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert (Via Submission @ 1:36)

Match Rating: D

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/gordonsolie.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/RickSteiner3.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/ScottSteiner22.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/missyhyatt.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/woman3.jpg

[We move to the podium where Gordon Solie introduces the number one contenders to the NWA World Tag Team champions: The Steiners and their manager Missy Hyatt! Rick Steiner and Scott Steiner come out and begin talking about their upcoming match with the Fabulous Freebirds. They talk about the Freebirds getting the same fate as what happened earlier tonight to The Iron Sheik, Rip Morgan and Jack Victory. Missy preens to their side until the woman formerly known as Robin Green comes out to interrupt things. She tells The Steiners that she is sick and tired of playing second fiddle to a blonde bimbo. This is why she has made the choice to leave The Steiners. But she promises that next week here on World Championship Wrestling she will present Doom for The Steiners.]

Match #6

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/fatu7.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/samu5.jpg w/ http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/paule.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/johnnyace.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/ShaneDouglas3.jpg

The Samoan Swat Team vs. Dynamic Dudes

[Another extremely short match that saw the entrances for the match as being longer than the match itself. Paul E. Dangerously leads the Samoan Swat Team to the ring and they dominate the skateboard-carrying team. Samu and Fatu strike Johnny Ace with a double forward Russian legsweep and then send him to the corner to tag in Shane Douglas. Douglas fares no better than Ace, getting struck with a double Savate Kick. Samu climbs the turnbuckles and Fatu launches him off with a top rope diving headbutt! Samu makes the cover: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winners: The Samoan Swat Team (Via Pinfall @ 1:39)

Match Rating: D

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/bobcaudle.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/paulellering.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/animal3.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/hawk3.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/paule.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/fatu7.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/samu5.jpg

[As The Samoan Swat Team are celebrating inside the ring, Bob Caudle welcomes Paul Ellering and The Road Warriors down to the podium for an interview. Ellering tells Caudle to look at the two men standing to either side of him. They are the two baddest men in the NWA. Not only that but they have the smartest man in the NWA to help lead them. When it comes down to it, there is no one tougher than these two men, according to Paul Ellering. The interview is interrupted as The Samoan Swat Team are walking by. Paul E. Dangerously leads the SST over to the podium and it soon devolves into a brawl between the Road Warriors and the Samoan Swat Team! Neither team gains a true advantage before the locker room spills forth to break things up between the two hard-hitting teams. But there will be no stopping the two teams at Fall Brawl at the end of the month!]

Match #7

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/sting4.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/boborton.jpg

NWA Television Title Match

Sting defends vs. 'Cowboy' Bob Orton

[We move into our semi main event this evening as the man called Sting defends the NWA Television title against 'Cowboy' Bob Orton. This is a solid back and forth affair that sees great action and great heat from the crowd. The crowd is solidly behind the NWA Television champion but Orton shows that he is no pushover in this match. The man known as 'The Cowboy' scores a two count following a hard right hand on the face-painted Sting. Orton calls for the Superplex and lifts Sting on the top turnbuckle. He climbs up but Sting rallies back with the crowd support. Sting shoves Orton to the mat and then flies off the top turnbuckle -- flying elbowdrop! Sting picks up Orton and whips him into the corner -- Stinger Splash! Orton falls to the mat and Sting grabs him by the legs -- Scorpion Deathlock! Within moments, Orton is nodding his head, crying out his submission. Sting with a clean and successful defense of the NWA Television title!]

Winner: Sting (Via Submission @ 7:51; Sting retains the NWA Television title)

Match Rating: B

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/garymichaelcappetta.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/tommyrich.jpg

[We move back to the podium where Gary Michael Cappetta is standing by with the top contender to the NWA United States Heavyweight champion Tommy 'Wildfire' Rich. The crowd really doesn't seem to care about the interview. Instead, a sign being held in the crowd is raised up: 'hogan sucks!' It begins a loud 'Hogan Sucks!' chant in the background that nearly drowns out Tommy Rich's words about being proud of the fans and that he will make them proud of him at the end of the month when he challenges Lex Luger for the U.S. title.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/ricflairc.jpg

[Loud cheers pour throughout the arena as '2001: A Space Odyssey' begins to play and out from the back comes the NWA World champion 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair! Ric gets in the ring and then on the microphone, saying that the time has come to reveal his mystery partner. This is a man who he has faced many, many times. It is through those battles that he has come to respect the ability that this man has. He says that he has beaten this man and been beaten by this man. Now it is time to introduce his partner: Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat!]

Match #8

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/terryfunk2.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/luger.jpg w/ http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/garyhart.jpg vs. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/ricflairc.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/rickysteamboat2.jpg

Terry Funk and Lex Luger vs. Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat

[The crowd was in absolute shock at the return of The Dragon. But none were more surprised than Lex Luger, who came out quickly to the ring along with Terry Funk. Flair and Steamboat were quick to meet Luger and Funk with chops. Steamboat matched up with Luger and Flair with Funk in opposite corners. Flair and Steamboat whip both Funk and Luger into each other and the team of Funk and Luger quickly exit the ring to regroup. Both teams get the opportunity to shine in this match. Ric Flair is taken down by a trip by Gary Hart outside the vision of the referee and the NWA World champion plays the face-in-peril, constantly trying to tag in his partner but being held back by both Funk and Luger. Flair is sent into the ring post outside the ring and is nearly counted out but manages to make it into the ring before the ten count. Luger shows his power, whipping Flair into the corner. Flair flips up and over the turnbuckles and Luger brings him down with a running clothesline before he can even reach the turnbuckles to climb up. Back inside the ring, Luger goes for the Human Torture Rack but Flair slides back down to his feet and shoves Luger into a corner. Flair crawls over and makes the tag!]

[Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat comes in and starts giving chops to both Luger and Funk, who comes running in! Steamboat brings Funk down with a dropkick! He catches Luger with the same move! He brings down Funk with a scoop slam. He turns back to Luger -- clothesline by Luger sends Steamboat over the top rope! Steamboat holds onto the top rope as Luger turns his back, flexing. Steamboat raises himself back up and over the top rope and into the ring. Luger turns back to Steamboat and runs toward him -- spinning spinebuster! Flair comes in and throws punches to Terry Funk! Flair and Funk spill out of the ring. Steamboat exits the ring and climbs the turnbuckles as Luger is slowly getting to his feet. The Dragon leaps -- Flying Body Press! Steamboat hooks the leg: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winners: Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat (Via Pinfall @ 12:44)

Match Rating: A

[Ricky Steamboat just pinned the NWA United States Heavyweight champion Lex Luger! Outside the ring, Terry Funk catches Ric Flair with a low blow! The crowd around this boos and Funk grabs a sign 'Flair's about to get Funked!' Funk hits Flair over the head with the sign. Then he turns and grabs the legs of the Dragon as Steamboat and Luger are still brawling in the ring. This gives Luger an advantage and Luger catches Steamboat with a running kneelift. The crowd, though, begins cheering as two men come running down to the ring.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/tommyrich.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/sting4.jpg

[Tommy Rich enters the ring, bringing Lex Luger down with a clothesline! Sting heads around ringside to protect Ric Flair, sliding him inside the ring as Luger rolls out of the ring. Sting, Tommy Rich, Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat remain inside the ring, while Gary Hart, Lex Luger and Terry Funk back up the ramp. The staredown ensues between all of these men as the show comes to a close. We'll see you next week on the Power Hour!]

The Great Muta vs. 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert

[NWA Power Hour opens with the entrance of 'The Pearl of the Orient' The Great Muta alongside Gary Hart. The crowd boos this entrance even as Muta enters the ring and sends the spray up high into the air. Eddie Gilbert gets the crowd hyped as he comes down to the ring with Missy Hyatt. Missy stands on the apron at the beginning of the match and The Great Muta walks over -- MIST! The Great Muta mists Missy Hyatt! Missy grabs at her eyes and falls off the apron to the floor. Eddie Gilbert slides out of the ring, checking on her. The crowd boos this move by Muta. Eddie is not happy to say the least. As EMTs check on Missy Hyatt, a fan holds up a sign behind her reading: 'Hurry, Missy needs Hotstuff now!']

[Eddie Gilbert is incensed to start the match, going right after Muta. This opening leads to a match with some good action and average heat from the crowd. Both men score quick near falls early and often in this contest. The match rumbles forward with Muta scoring on a handspring elbow on Gilbert while 'Hotstuff' is in the corner. The ending comes with Gary Hart striking Gilbert behind the referee's back and The Great Muta climbing the turnbuckles -- Moonsault! Muta hooks the leg, grabbing the tights of Gilbert: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winner: The Great Muta (Via Pinfall @ 7:34)

[We move to the podium here on NWA Power Hour where Gordon Solie is standing by with Ricky Steamboat. The Dragon is asked about his return here to the NWA and states that he has returned for one reason. That reason is to gain the NWA United States title from Lex Luger. He talks about the million dollar body of Luger but says that people tell him he has a nice body as well. As the interview continues, we see another man sneaking up behind both Solie and Steamboat.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/NWA%20Goal/luger.jpg

[That man is the NWA United States champion Lex Luger. The Total Package has the belt in hand and he strikes Steamboat from behind, sending Steamboat to the ground. Luger yells at Steamboat, saying that he will never hold this belt. Luger puts the boots to Steamboat and then drops to one knee beside him, lowering the belt right to the face of Steamboat. Luger rubs the belt right into Steamboat's face and then he stands up and walks over to Gordon Solie, telling (well spitting is more the word) Gordon that Ricky Steamboat will NEVER get a title shot as long as he is champion. Luger turns and walks off while security steps in to check on Steamboat.]

Non Title Match

Scott Hall vs. Ric Flair

[Our second match of the evening was set up last week on World Championship Wrestling and begins with 'Magnum' Scott Hall flicking a toothpick into the face of 'The Nature Boy.' That serves to fire up Flair and Hall takes several early knife edge chops in the corner. The match features great action and a good crowd as Flair takes several big bumps for Hall, including his flip over the turnbuckle and body slam off the top turnbuckle. Hall scores a near fall with a Fallaway Slam. With Hall in control, a fan holds up a sign reading: 'Magnum is the Man!' He goes for the Hall Buster but Flair throws him off, getting the crowd behind him. Flair goes right after the knees of Hall and holds the advantage from the four minute mark on before wrapping Hall up with the Figure 4 Leglock. Hall has no choice but to submit.]

Winner: Ric Flair (Via Submission @ 5:33)

Match Rating: B

[We are taken to another interview segment with Gordon Solie. This time he is standing by with the soon-to-debut wrestler Z-Man. Z-Man says that he is very happy to be here in the National Wrestling Alliance. He talks about wrestling all over the world and for many different promotions but it is right here in the NWA that the competition is the best. He says that he wants to come here and prove to himself and prove to the fans that he is the best. He thanks the fans for their support and lets them know that he will be doing this for them.]

[During the entrance of The Fabulous Freebirds for the main event match, we are taken to a small box in the upper right hand corner of the screen where the team known as The Midnight Express are standing with a blank background. Bobby Eaton and Stan Lane talk about the fact that they are on a bit of a slump here in the NWA. However, they are one of the most experienced teams in the business. So when it comes to tag team wrestling, they are the best. They want to prove it and will do so tomorrow on World Championship Wrestling when they meet the NWA World Tag Team champions The Fabulous Freebirds. The champs are going to get run over by the Midnight Express and lose those belts according to Stan Lane.]

The Fabulous Freebirds and The Samoan Swat Team vs. The Steiners and Road Warriors

[Our main event contest features four of the top tag teams in the National Wrestling Alliance. The match features some good action and average heat from this crowd. All eight men got the opportunity to put forth some of their top moves and show some strength as Jimmy Garvin was able to survive a Steiner Bulldog when Michael Hayes broke up the pinfall attempt. The same happened on the other end when Rick Steiner was caught with the diving headbutt off the top turnbuckle by Samu and Road Warrior Animal broke up the pinfall attempt. The match came to an end with a pier eight brawl inside the ring and a brawl outside the ring between Paul Ellering and Paul E. Dangerously! Rick Steiner hits Michael Hayes with a Steinerline and then an overhead belly to belly suplex that sends Hayes out of the ring. The Road Warriors and Samoan Swat Team brawl, leaving Scott Steiner with Jimmy 'Jam' Garvin. Scott sends Jimmy to the ropes -- Frankensteiner! Scott turns over and makes the cover, hooking the leg: 1 -- 2 -- 3!]

Winners: The Steiners and Road Warriors (Via Pinfall @ 8:23)

Match Rating: B-

[Scott Steiner just pinned one half of the NWA World Tag Team champions in Jimmy Garvin! But that doesn't mean that these eight men are willing to stop inside the ring and out. Rick Steiner and Michael Hayes brawl outside the ring. All around ringside, bodies are laid out as the ringside area resembles a car crash or destruction derby. Animal and Hawk battle Samu and Fatu to the back, while The Steiners and The Fabulous Freebirds continue to fight inside the ring. The show comes to an end with officials running into the ring to try to get things seperated.]

I figure it's time for me to comment on some of the comments here.

Varsity Club vs. Midnight Express

Comment: A much bigger fan of the express and they always felt like a more well though out team.

The Midnight Express are definitely an amazing tag team. I have some plans for them, as being shown in the cards so far.

Varsity Club vs. Midnight Express

Comment: Oh please yes. I mean I like Rotunda, but its the MX, man.

Bill Irwin vs. Ole Anderson

Comment: You sure have a lot of squashes set up for this show.

The Iron Sheik, Rip Morgan and Jack Victory vs. The Steiners and Flyin' Brian

Comment: lawl, Jack Victory....you gonna introduce the High Spot a few years early?

Terry Funk and Lex Luger vs. Ric Flair and a Partner of his Choosing

Comment: I'm gonna bet that I know who this is gonna be, and if so he's going to be a very strong challenger for Luger.

I remember that your love for MX knows no bounds. :)

I do have a lot of squashes set up on the shows because I am trying to be more authentic to the era. And it's actually not killing my ratings. :)

Not sure what the High Spot is? Care to enlighten me?

And I have to ask, was Steamboat the one you thought of as the partner for Flair?

Bill Irwin vs. Ole Anderson

Comment: The Rock one of my favs but also much better as a heel. The night the Horsemen kicked out Sting was some of his best mic work

Terry Funk and Lex Luger vs. Ric Flair and a Partner of his Choosing

Comment: wild DQ with either Barry Windham or Ricky steamboat maybe being the mystery partner

Ole was definitely underrated on the microphone and as a wrestler in general.

Good guess on the tag team partner of Flair!

The Great Muta vs. 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert

Comment: I'm interested to see what's going on with Hotstuff, after the segment you did with him and Flair on WCW.

Back in these days as I recall most of the faces were 'best friends.' You've got Flyin' Brian mentioned Flair as a friend and Eddie Gilbert using the Figure Four he learned from Flair.

The Fabulous Freebirds and The Samoan Swat Team vs. The Steiners and Road Warriors

Comment: The second I saw the name Freebirds the song "sweet home alabama" played in my head, I'll take that as a sign.

Sorry it seems your sign didn't work out. :(

It certainly does know no bounds. In the 1987 mod, one of my favorite things to do is push the MX to win the Crockett Cup, even despite having teams like the Road Warriors and Arn & Tully (who are also some of my all-time favorites) in the tournament.

Surprised you've had solid ratings with the squashes. Must just be pushing the right talents!

"High Spot!" was Jack Victory's ECW schtick alongside Steve Corino. Basically Jack would stand around while Corino did his whole promo, and then hold up a V with his fingers and yell "High Spot!" It was kinda dumb but somewhat funny at the same time. Dumb funny.

Actually I'd thought of Steamboat, but at the same time I thought nah, that seemed too simple; my next best instinct told me Windham. Guess it was the simple response after all then....not that I would ever turn away The Dragon!

NWA World Tag Team Titles Match

The Fabulous Freebirds defend vs. Midnight Express

Comment: Sometimes I hate you ad

The Skyscrapers vs. Ranger Ross and Steve Austin

Comment: Skyscrapers on one side and Ranger Ross on the other side equals death.

Bill Irwin and Al Perez vs. The Steiners

Comment: Same thing as the last match, only insert "Steiners" for Skyscrapers and "Al Perez" for Ranger Ross.

Scott Hall vs. Jason Knight

Comment: lawl Jason.

Buzz Sawyer vs. Brad Armstrong

Comment: I could almost see Armstrong getting it, but overall I think we all know better.

Mike Rotundo vs. 'Hotstuff' Eddie Gilbert

Comment: Rotundo is bigger than Gilbert yet. Figure it'll be a solid match though.

Cactus Jack vs. Tommy Rich

Comment: I say this ONLY because of the title match with Lex.

NWA Television Title Match

Sting defends vs. Bam Bam Bigelow

Comment: Very intrigued to see this one, but Bigelow is not nearly as loyal as Sting is, so no title for him.

Grudge Match

Terry Funk vs. Ole Anderson

Comment: Funk looking strong for Naitch, not a bad thing 'tall there.
