RATING: 56 (C-) Notes: 6:15. The announcing quality lifted the match. Timothy Well seemed off his game tonight. ____________________________________________ Next, Monsoon and Hayes send the broadcast over to Todd Pettengill, who sits in a news broadcast room after an introduction graphic is shown, featuring the words “WWF Live Event News”. He reviews the current events of the Undertaker/Ted DiBiase feud as well as the rivalry between Randy Savage and Shawn Michaels. He says that there is someone that wants to weigh in on the latter, and that's ”The Bad Guy” Razor Ramon. Razor joins the broadcast and cuts a short promo on Michaels and Savage. Razor Ramon: Ey yo...Randy Savage. I don't know exactly what you're thinking right now. I don't know who you gonna make Shawn Michaels fight on Monday... I just want you to know, Macho Mang...that there ain't nothin' “The Bad Guy” would love more...than to get his hands on that cocky little boy toy Shawn Michaels one..more..time! RATING: 76 (B-) Notes: Todd Pettengill is improving at acting. ____________________________________________ The WWF Champion Bret “The Hitman” Hart takes part in a pre-taped promo on his brother, Owen. He discusses the return of the British Bulldog as well as having an inner conflict with fighting his brother again, before turning it around and saying that he is ready to do whatever it takes to defend his championship against his traitor of a brother. Bret Hart: Owen, sometimes you just don't get what you want. Sometimes you get what you need. And what I need, is at Summerslam, to finally end this rivalry we have. So how about it, brother? Why don't we up the stakes a little bit? You and I both know each other's every move...we know exactly how the other's mind works in a regular match. So why don't we add a little stipulation, Owen? Why don't we make this match for my WWF Title – submissions only?! So that when I put you in the Sharpshooter in the middle of that ring, and you submit, the whole world will see why I'm the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be! The two veterans went at one another with tenacity, with Neidhart using his power to weigh on Backlund. Backlund was able to outsmart his opponent, however, and lock in the Crossface Chickenwing for the win! RATING: 60 © Notes: 6:32. ____________________________________________ Next, a video package highlighting the events of the Randy Savage vs. Diesel match is shown. RATING: 74 (B-) Notes: None. ____________________________________________ Backstage, Lou Albano stands with Afa and their clients, The Headshrinkers. Albano yells and rants about Ted DiBiase and his Million Dollar Corporation, and why the Tag Titles will NOT change at SummerSlam! Meanwhile, Afa, Fatu, and Samu are staring and wandering aimlessly on and off the screen. Lou Albano: DiBiase you got two men, the gigantic 390 pound freak of nature Bam Bam and that slimy tax man Irwin R. Schyster! In their own right, these two guys are tough to take out, but I think that as a combined effort, IRS's brain and Bam Bam's power don't mix! They don't have the togetherness that is VITAL to be a successful tag team. They don't have the power The Headshrinkers have, they don't have the agility The Headshrinkers have, and they SURE don't have the intestinal fortitude these boys have! I think that Fatu and Samu, with a combined weight of 613 pounds, have got everything they need to keep the gold, brother! RATING: 62 © Notes: Lou Albano improvised well throughout the segment. ____________________________________________ Another video package plays, this time showing the return of the British Bulldog! His return match – our main event of the night – is coming up next! While Kwang tried to play spoiler, the fans knew from start to finish that this was the Bulldog's match. He reminded the crowd of some of his signature moves such as a military press slam and a delayed vertical suplex, before finishing his opponent off with a Running Powerslam! RATING: 63 © Notes: 6:09. The British Bulldog and Kwang have great chemistry, and it showed in their performances. Harvey Wippleman did some good work at ringside. ____________________________________________ After a commercial break, Jerry Lawler stands in the ring ready for his King's Court segment. He insults the fans in Washington, talking trash about the Seattle Seahawks, SuperSonics, and Mariners. Jerry Lawler: You know, the reason there's so much rain in Seattle is because of all the tears you guys shed every time one of your pathetic teams loses! Hahaha! After verbally assaulting the fans, Lawler moves his attention toward his segment. He introduces Lex Luger, who hits the ring wearing red, white, and blue to the delight of the fans. Luger climbs in the ring and Lawler begins to insult him as well, calling him a traitor and a terrible friend for betraying Tatanka. Luger shakes his head repeatedly and tells him to get to the interview. Lawler says he's asking what everyone in the world wants to know – DID Ted DiBiase buy Luger's services? Lex Luger: I'm gonna tell you Lawler, I'm gonna tell Ted DiBiase, I'm gonna tell Tatanka, and I'm gonna tell the WORLD, for the last time-- The cackle of the Million Dollar Man blasts over the PA system and he hits the ring along with Bigelow and IRS. Luger groans and Lawler smirks as the three men step into the ring. Lawler puts the mic in front of DiBiase. Ted DiBiase: Yeah, Lex, why don't you tell the world? Why don't you tell the world what you told me in the back – that you can't wait to beat the tar out of your old friend Tatanka and stomp on the headdress off his fossil of a manager, Chief Jay Strongbow? Why don't you tell the world about the new Swiss bank account you opened up to funnel all your extra money to? Tell the WORLD, Lex, that you aren't as patriotic as you act, and that the only thing Made in the USA about you is not your red, white, and blue pride, but the big bag of green money you're gonna get once you pulverize Tatanka at SummerSlam! Hahahahaha! The crowd boos loudly as Luger looks furious. He fires right back at DiBiase, flattening any rumors of his defection to the Million Dollar Corporation. Lex Luger: I have no idea what you're talking about, DiBiase. I want everyone to know that Lex Luger is not, was never, and will never be bought out by the Million Dollar Man! I don't care what you think and I don't care what Tatanka thinks, I cannot be bought! I won't take any shortcuts and I won't take any bribes – I'm fighting my way to the WWF Championship one day at a time because THAT's the American way! And you can take THAT to the bank, DiBiase! Luger leaves the ring to his music, Monsoon and Hayes talk about how he hasn't defected, but DiBiase stands in the ring with a smug smirk on his face. RATING: 75 (B-) Notes: Jerry Lawler worked the crowd well, using the freedom to improvise to his advantage. Lex Luger did a masterful job of improvising interactions with the crowd. ____________________________________________ Finally, a graphic showing Shawn Michaels and a mystery opponent is hyped for this Monday night on RAW! Monsoon and Hayes encourage the TV audience to tune in for what is sure to be a wild matchup! Following the opening video, another video package plays displaying the events of the Randy Savage matchup against Diesel last week, with the commentators in awe that Savage pulled it out!

Backstage, Shawn Michaels and Diesel stand by with Todd Pettengill, who asks Shawn who he thinks his opponent will be tonight. The pair scoff and talk about how it doesn't matter who it is, they won't make it out of the ring with the Heartbreak Kid!

Shawn Michaels: It doesn't matter to the Heartbreak Kid who I step in the ring with tonight, it could be Lex Luger (crowd cheers) ... it could be Razor Ramon (crowd cheers louder) … the Macho Man could even send himself out there (crowd cheers even louder) … but I simply do not care because I'm going to get into that ring and I'm going to PROVE … that Big Daddy Cool and The Heartbreak Kid are always one step ahead of the Macho Man. And once I've covered my opponent and gotten the 1, 2, 3, come SummerSlam I'm gonna prove that I am the franchise player of the World Wrestling Federation! Randy, if there's one thing you should know, it's that this is the NEW Generation here in the WWF, and that means that it's out with the old...and in with the new!

The Headshrinkers (w/Afa and Lou Albano) vs. The Powers of Pain

The Madison Square Garden crowd ate up the first match of the night, a Tag Team title bout between The Headshrinkers and The Powers of Pain. The challengers took it to the champions early and gave them a run for their money, but when The Smoking Gunns came down from the back, the Powers were a bit perturbed. With their mind not in the match, the champions were able to land a Double Flying Headbutt on the Warlord for the victory and a successful title defense!

RATING: 71 (B-)
Notes: 6:45. Lou Albano did some good work at ringside. The Barbarian is improving in Rumble skills. Fatu is improving in Technical skills. The Warlord is improving in Technical skills. The Warlord was really off his game tonight.

Backstage, Razor Ramon stands by with Todd Pettengill, who asks him if Savage has contacted him to be Shawn Michaels' mystery opponent tonight.

Razor Ramon: Heh...”The Bad Guy” talked to “The Macho Mang” earlier tonight and I'll tell you one thing, chico. “The Heartbreak Kid” got lucky because he won't be getting in the ring with “The Bad Guy” later tonight. But hey yo Shawn, you had better be ready for tonight, because there's not many people bigger and badder than Razor Ramon, but your opponent might just be one of 'em. You gotta make sure that little heart of yours doesn't get broken for good, because your opponent might just put you in the ground!

After the commentators speak about events that happened last week involving six top stars in the WWF, there was a short backstage interview involving participants in the six-man tag match. Bret Hart, the British Bulldog, and Bob Backlund each took the mic, with each competitor challenging the members of the other team to step up tonight.

Bob Backlund: Listen here, Crush! You may have the power and you may have the size, but you will never have the heart and the determination to be the best that I have! I'm not the strongest guy, I'm not the fastest guy, but I've got heart, desire, and conditioning, and I never keep fighting, so I'm gonna take the fight to you tonight and I'm going to beat you at SummerSlam just like I beat you at In Your House!

The British Bulldog: It's common knowledge around the World Wrestling Federation that The British Bulldog and Owen Hart, “The Rocket,” “The King of Harts,” are brother-in-laws. And that's the reason I came to the WWF, Owen. You're a disgrace to the Hart Family and I'm here to teach you a lesson in pain along with that clown, Jim Neidhart!

Bret Hart: That's right, the Bulldog is back because even outsiders can tell that you're a horrible brother and everyone wants to see you taken out. You've bitten off more than you can chew, Owen, and at SummerSlam, I'm gonna prove that when I put you in the Sharpshooter and bring you a fight that's harder than any other fight we've had before! You will find out that you will never be the Excellence of Execution and Owen, come two Sundays from now there will be no excuses and the whole world will see that I am the best technical wrestler in the World Wrestling Federation as I walk out of SummerSlam with my title draped over my shoulder!

Bret Hart, The British Bulldog, and Bob Backlund vs. Owen Hart, Jim Neidhart, and Crush w/Jim Cornette

This huge six-man tag match was anything short of organized. At all times, illegal members of the match were attacking their in-ring rivals, not to mention the chaos caused with Jim Cornette lurking outside the ring. Neidhart attacked Bret, who was in the ring with Crush, prompting the Bulldog to come in and knock Neidhart out of the ring, and all sorts of mayhem ensued. Finally, after a seven-minute bout, the bad guys picked up the win after Owen Hart rolled up Bob Backlund while Cornette distracted him! Owen grabbed a handful of tights amidst the chaos and the referee counted to three!

Notes: 7:22. Ouch, that rating. Bob Backlund seemed off his game tonight. The British Bulldog is improving in Flying skills. (how? ) The British Bulldog is improving in Performance skills.

In a pre-taped interview, Ted DiBiase stands backstage with his Million Dollar Corporation. With Bigelow standing menacingly and IRS smiling smugly at the camera, DiBiase goes on to address multiple problems he will be facing at SummerSlam.

Ted DiBiase: In two weeks at SummerSlam, there's gonna be a whole lotta cash riding on the Million Dollar Corporation because out in Vegas, those bookies and those gamblers KNOW that you never bet against the Million Dollar Man! Bam Bam and IRS are gonna send those savages back to where they came from and they're gonna walk out with the gold! But the question everyone's been asking me lately is what is the Million Dollar Man gonna do when he steps inside that steel cage with The Undertaker. What these people don't seem to realize is that wealth is the bottom line! And MY wealth is more than just money! I am RICH in ring prowess and extremely WELL-OFF in in-ring ability. So when that walking carcass gets in the ring with ME, I'm gonna slap him in the Million Dollar Dream, knock him out, get out of the cage, and if Paul Bearer's lucky, maybe I'll give him a handout or two because I feel personally responsible for destroying his meal ticket. Hahahaha!

Back at ringside, the music of “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels hits as he walks down to the ring, ready for his matchup. Accompanied by Diesel, Michaels arrogantly plays to the crowd before stepping in the ring with Diesel attempting to get him pumped up. With Michaels settled in the ring, Pomp and Circumstance hits with ”Macho Man” Randy Savage coming out from behind the curtain. He stands at the top of the aisle, microphone in hand, ready to make his announcement. Savage soaks in the cheers of the crowd.

Randy Savage: You hear that, Shawn? That's the sound of thousands of people who want to see you get the crap kicked out of you in that ring tonight, oooh yeah! (crowd cheers) Everyone in the audience knows that the Macho Man always delivers on his promises, and so I would like to introduce the man who's gonna be facing Shawn Michaels tonight – The Undertaker!

The lights go out as the crowd explodes, with The Undertaker making his way to the ring with Paul Bearer beside him! Michaels and Diesel look shocked as the dead man steps into the ring and the match is set to begin!

The Undertaker w/Paul Bearer vs. Shawn Michaels w/Diesel

This match was another long one, similar to last week's battle between Savage and Diesel. Early on, Michaels tried his hardest to slip out of The Undertaker's grasp, dodging an attack while Shawn was backed into the corner. He landed kicks and punches sparingly while spending most of his energy backpedaling and sliding out of the ring. While he stood outside and discussed strategy with Diesel, The Undertaker reached over, grabbed his hair and pulled him into the ring by it! He began to lay into Michaels with throat thrusts and a big clothesline.

The Undertaker held the advantage for most of the match, with Michaels eventually finding a way to gain control by raking his eyes. Michaels was able to land a couple of dropkicks and knock the dead man off his feet! He went for an immediate cover, from which he was tossed by the Undertaker. Later on in the match, Michaels was able to drop an elbow from the top rope! Michaels lined up for the Sweet Chin Music from the corner, but the Undertaker sat up! Shawn, rattled, indecisively went for his finisher anyway, and the Undertaker dodged! Michaels turned around and was turned upside down for the Tombstone, but Diesel came in and attacked the dead man from behind, causing him to lose grip on Michaels! The referee called for a dissatisfying disqualification after a long, grueling matchup.

RATING: 84 (B+)
Notes: 20:05. Match of the night. The match deserved better colour commentary.

Other than Michaels being tossed to the side, The Undertaker barely reacts to Diesel's attack. He slowly turns as Diesel hammered on his back and head. The dead man turns all the way around without showing any effects of the strikes. The Undertaker begins to strike back before grabbing the throat of “Big Daddy Cool,” who elbows him in the head to release the grip. Diesel scurries out of the ring, helping an injured Shawn Michaels to the back. The show ends with The Undertaker staring down the duo with his music blaring over the PA system and the crowd going wild!

RATING: 73 (B-)
Notes: The performance of The Undertaker was good.

Question -- do you guys think it'd be better if I changed the writing style for SummerSlam/future PPVs to make it more authentic? Like, more commentary and play-by-play than just short summaries? It'd be something similar to Clash of the Champions in Jaysin's '91 diary but probably not as flashy. I feel it might give more of a realistic feel because, having watched SummerSlam 1994 last night to get a feel for writing mine, I think some of the stuff I'm missing is what made this era great. I wouldn't be able to sustain it for the TV shows which isn't a big deal, but do you think I should try something new for SummerSlam?

The writeups wouldn't be too excruciatingly long, it wouldn't literally be play-by-play, it'd be the same as In Your House with a little bit more extra commentary and little things added in.

He asks the team why they got involved in the WWF Tag Team Championship match last week on RAW. Billy Gunn: You see, three weeks ago on RAW, we were ambushed by the Powers of Pain when they came back to the WWF and as you know, they went on to receive a Tag Team title shot last Monday. And Bart and I, we don't think that's fair. Bart Gunn: No way, Billy! We've got no problem with The Headshrinkers or anyone else in the WWF tag team division, we just feel that the Powers of Pain cost us our shot at the titles. And so we decided to settle the score with those guys. So Barbarian, Warlord, next time you want to ambush the Smoking Gunns, we'll be ready. In other, odd news, Pettengill mentions that he has been informed by Harvey Wippleman that he is disappointed by the recent misfortunes of his client Kwang and so the pair are going back to Kwang's roots in Japan to train harder. The Express quickly accepted and here we have a match on Superstars. The match went back and forth, with both teams looking pretty good. Late in the match, Rob Van Dam was hit with the Double Dropkick, and PJ Walker ran in the ring! Gibson, the legal man, went for the cover but Johnny Polo got up on the apron! The referee made him step down, but then had to break up the fight between the illegal men, Walker and Morton. Meanwhile, Gibson walked to the ropes and grabbed the hair of Polo, who smashed his polo stick in half over his head! Gibson tumbled backward and Van Dam made the cover for the three count when the referee turned around! With Excellence celebrating in the ring, the referee spotted the top half of Polo's weapon laying in the ring.
