1991: Rising Storms

Wait a second, the game says Scott Steiner is on steroids!? That can't be right.

Agreed with what justtxyank said, those firings aren't the result of drug policy but a financial situation.

justtxyank, have you thought about creating a narrative sometime around '95 when Turner got serious about competing with Vince and gave Bischoff all that money to play with? I know from reading Ole, Jody Hamilton, and Hansen's books that WCW was always carefree with finances under Turner but they took it to another level with the Nitro era.

The guys that got cut for roids or drugs (as it says in each news post):

Sting

Matt Borne

Lex Luger

Rick Rude

Buddy Landel

Jimmy Garvin

Rick Steiner

Scott Steiner

Sid Vicious

Dan Spivey

Vader

Dustin Rhodes

Eddie Guerrero

The Juicer

Brian Pillman

Tommy Rich

The rest in that screen shot (where it says "released) were due to financial cuts, which is pretty reasonable.

I guess it might have something to do with JR. I can't imagine him actually doing this but I guess anything is possible.

I don't mind, I'll continue on. Just thought I'd let you know because I wasn't sure if anyone else had this same problem in 1993.

I have no problem with realism in this mod. I think it's great, but unfortunately I think it doesn't match up with the way the game works. Unless I just stumbled across a rare occurrence or something.

I am sooo looking forward to the next release.

In regards to personal demons, what do you do with a guy like Bam Bam Gordy? He was still having excellent matches in All Japan as part of the MVC, but at the same time he was high out of his mind. He was a great wrestler up until the coma and subsequent brain damage in '93, but that just shows how screwed up he was.

The game can't really account for guys putting on good performances despite being drugged up. Take Bulldog for example. He was so stoned he couldn't remember his spots in his match with Bret at Summerslam.

To me, all bets are off once the game starts. I prefer any long-term narratives to be window dressing, unless it's something from the real world spilling over and impacting the game world (like market crashes.)

Now I'm debating whether to leave in any narratives that can change a worker's habits or company's fortunes(granted, I do put asterisks besides all narratives that change gameplay), or take them out of my Risky Business mod. If I were to do that, I would leave in any that talk about a worker thinking about coming out of retirement(think Onita in Japan to start FMW and wrestle as well), with instructions for the player on what to do if they choose to do so. Or I could just proceed as I've been going as far as narratives go, and leave the asterisks by the ones that change gameplay so that the player can go ahead and mass delete those if they choose to do so.

In fact, the only one I included in my mod is the financial crisis of 2007... and I stay clear of retirement age/relevancy age and such with 99,9 % of the workers for the same reason.

I don't want to be too deterministic. With butterfly effects and whatnot, I simply see it as the minute you step into the game and alter history even the slightest, all bets are off.

My narratives are either real world things that impact the game world, window dressing, things that were already set in motion by the time the game world starts (steroid stuff for example) or things I think were going to happen no matter the course of wrestling. Example, if WWF survives to 1998 it will go public on the stock market bringing in a ton of cash. As a privately owned company the WWF would definitely have done that no matter what else was going on in the world.

Edit: And I try to only use relevancy and stuff to protect workers who are already near the end from quitting on you at the beginning. It's not fun to play a 91 game and have guys like Funk and Flair leaving within the first 6 months.

Try to balance realism, organic nature of the game, enjoyment factor and longterm playability.

OK, I'm at my 3rd multi-year sim today, this one is up to January 1994 and I have yet to see a max firing/release situation like you experienced.

I'm leaning towards fluke.

I DID clean up some more personal habits though just to get rid of them.

You think the title changes for Portland were bad, try doing title lineages for Memphis! And that's BEFORE you get to the era of Brian Christopher being a five million time USWA Champion! <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

I for one am thankful for the postponing so far... I have a crap ton of homework and I don't need to be distracted (like I am now) <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Not to be a complete dork but its awesome that you replied Hive. Long before I bothered joining here I was playing your mods. Some of my favorite games have been because of your mods. Now make one that isn't set in boring old 94 <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Thanks for all the compliments on the pics. I'm an aesthetics guy so I spend too much time on them.

I will go ahead and tell everyone in advance that you will probably need to download an entire new copy of nGo as opposed to an update pack on the next release.

The good news is I have a new image compression tool that makes the pack significantly smaller in data size. There are over 500 new files in the pack.

I'll try to have a simple update pack, but no promises!

I don't know where you find half of these pictures. I scour the internet looking for pics of some of the lesser known guys and then I find damn near perfect pictures in your file. I'm not a fan of the organic stuff for the most part but I'd be playing a game and need a replacement and before I knew it half my game was full of your pics and it slowly started to win me over <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

I also like EDjames pic pack but its very small so I don't get to enjoy it the same way I do yours.

Set your mind free! Embrace organic!

Once you play with them long term I think you will find they really help game immersion a lot more than KyKy or the other pre-formatted backgrounds.

I do strive to get all posed photos instead of action shots and stuff, but I think the organic nature really makes the pictures work well together and help hide lesser quality images.
