1991: Rising Storms

Recommended Posts

<p>So some delays...</p><p> </p><p>

1) Just discovered wrestling data.com which is HUGE</p><p>

2) The data is running really slow after about a year so I'm going to trim the database. I'll probably delete some of the indy workers that are in the data that never worked for any promotion that will be in the game</p><p>

3) I can't decide on how to handle certain workers that are supposed to open a promotion. I want feedback on one in particular...</p><p> </p><p>

On the current release SMW is open even though this doesn't reflect reality. I decided NOT to have SMW open when the game starts for the build I'm working on now. The problem is that in every sim I've done, Jim Cornette NEVER becomes available to open it. Thoughts?</p>

<p>You could have Bob Armstrong as a potential founder. If I'm not mistaken, didn't he help quite a bit backstage for Smoky Mountain?</p><p> </p><p>

Also, for trimming your database, if you want, you can go ahead and delete the workers from my Dallas add-on if you don't think there's any use for any of them. I still have the add-on database anyway, so all I have to do is import them if I really want them.</p>

<p>Starting up SMW 8 months before it really opened might be the best bet. </p><p> </p><p>

Cornette ran the territory, but didn't Rick Rubin, the music producer, finance it? Rubin could be a potential owner in the game if you wanted to have it open in September of '91. I was also thinking of making Cornette a freelancer but worker loyalty isn't turned on in America.</p>

What about having him as a potential founder as well.</p>

<p>This kinda goes back to the discussion in the suggestions thread about people who wanted to have Owen Hart die as a narrative. </p><p> </p><p>

The question I ask is would Cornette have made SMW if he would have stayed in WCW?</p><p> </p><p>

One way to set this up would be to give Cornette tension or hatred with whoever is running WCW, and make it so his contract runs out at the time of Smokey's inception. That way, his contract runs out and he leaves them, opening him up to start SMW. Which would work fine for the rest of the world, but would kind of suck for the WCW player who wants to keep the MX and their manager. But it would achieve the purpose.</p><p> </p><p>

It's kinda like making it so Ric Flair definitely leaves WCW in the summer, though.</p>

I imagine the WWF snaps him up on a written contract if he doesn't start as owner of SMW.</p>

He's not part of WCW when the game world begins, but he has jobs as a color commentator for other promotions. He was still working between the time he left WCW and the time he started SMW, notably as the announcer for LPWA.

As for Flair leaving WCW in the summer, if the user plays as WCW that is preventable as Jim Herd won't be in charge. If you play as the WWF he will definitely leave as that leaves Herd in charge of WCW.

If you are in charge of WCW it's just going to be a bidding war that the WWF likely wins.

<p>I think having potential founders is a good idea.</p><p> </p><p>

2nd choice would be just to have Cornette start them at the very beginning.</p><p> </p><p>

May I ask if there is a narrative that has Ted Turner putting more money in WCW later on in the game? I'm assuming there is since that probably would have happened in any event?</p>

<p>How is this coming along? Have you found a solution for Smoky Mountain?</p><p> </p><p>

I'm going through other mods and trying to get a game started but none are as much fun as this one and there's not much point starting a new '91 game with a huge update pending. I just absolutely love the time frame as you get the big stars of the '80s still able to go and the up and comers of the '90s starting to break out. Not to mention an incredibly fine-tuned database! I knew the second I saw a Stan Hansen avatar I was in for good times.</p><p> </p><p>

One piece of constructive criticism for not just this mod but pretty much all mods is the Mexico data could use some touching up. I'm no lucha expert, but from what I've seen, the majority of top tier luchadores are really excellent brawlers in addition to technicians. The hate-filled brawls, usually during hair/mask matches, are hard to pull off when most of them are in the 30-40% range in brawling skill. Also, some of the best technicians in this era were luchadores. I don't think I've ever seen a better technical match than Angel Azteca vs. El Dandy from 1990 (it's on youtube). Just incredible mat and submission wrestling. Who are we to doubt El Dandy? He was on fire at this time, putting on classic after classic.</p><p> </p><p>

Does the board have a lucha libre expert?</p>

1993 is stalled right now. My wife had our first baby so I've been unable to even think about it. :)

Because of the delay, I'll probably do a rework of 91 at some point and then move on from there.

I havent gotten to the end of this entire thread, but congratulations on the baby!

I love your 91 Mod, I really don't agree that WCW being at cult status, as I think it was bigger than that. I grew up in NYC, and every wrestling fan I ran into knew what WCW was. They were all programmed to love WWF, as was most of the nation, but people knew about it. I edit it anyways.

But really Jusrtxyank, thanks for all your hard work. I've edited your Mod to reflect November 1989, and wanted to begin work on a 93 Mod. I will def troubleshoot 92 and 93 when you release them, as I have tons of the Apter mags and love http://www.cagematch.net/.

BTW When you run Sims, do you just do a forward one year in a promotion that has no shows, like go a year ahead?

<p>Yeah I just go unemployed and sim forward with full advance on.</p><p> </p><p>

I'll stop the sim periodically to check the game world to make sure I see more of the trees and not just the forest. </p><p> </p><p>

I am currently doing some stat reworking (discovered stamina too high for most of world which prompted me to fix that and some other things) and have added a few more workers. I don't want to put a timeline again since I missed the last two, but it's really close.</p><p> </p><p>

I resolved SMW by having two other potential founders. It's an inelegant solution honestly because Cornette never gets involved despite the other two founders having strong positive relationships with him. </p><p> </p><p>

I've done quite a few more narratives, mostly fluff. There are a few narratives that impact the game world, but none that I think a user would care about changing. Just popping a few workers in the early years. Narratives will die down after 1993 or so still because of the organic nature of the game world obviously. </p><p> </p><p>

I've already reworked some of the lucha scene, but of course, if there is ANYONE that is comfortable with it I'd love to have them take a hammer to it. My lucha knowledge is limited to what I can read in magazines and the few matches I can grab on tape. Most of the lucha work is stuff that has passed from mod to mod. Someone somewhere did it. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

Keep up the good work! Thanks for checking in and letting us know you're still working on it. I know I can be patient knowing I'm getting a better mod so take your time. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Oh and just so you know Justtxyank - I would help you on something but I know almost nothing outside of WWF/E, WCW & TNA...which I'm sure you have covered pretty well yourself. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

  • 2 weeks later...

My apologies for not getting your requests done sooner. WWE Network has been a bit of a beeyotch this week, though I wonder how much of it is the network itself, and how much of it was the last Flash update fouling things up. Anywhere, here's that pic of Piper you wanted. There was nothing I could do about the bottom corners since the 1992 Royal Rumble was the best show I could capture a picture of Piper looking goofy:

I haven't take a screen shot of Macho Man at Starrcade '94 yet because so far, the show hasn't been as high of quality as I would like it. As for Flair, haven't had a chance to watch any WCW '93 shows yet.
