WCW Hotline: February 1996, Week 1

How did I not have this posted already? Ugh. I've had it mostly done for weeks and didn't even realize it. Well, as the start of a new month, I'll put up an "in the world" tomorrow, and if all goes right, I'll try to pump out a new Nitro this weekend as well.

WCW Hotline

1st Week of February 1996

Option 1: SuperBrawl Control Center!

Option 2: Announced for WCW Monday Nitro!

Option 3: What the world ISN’T watching!

Option 4: WCW Disney/MGM taping results!

Option 5: Mean Gene’s backstage pass!

Option 6: The Monday Night War Neilson ratings!

Option 7: Tony Schiavone’s WCW moment of the week!

Option 8: Mike Tenay’s International Report!

Option 9: A gift from the WCW Catalog!

Option 1: SuperBrawl Control Center!

Next Sunday, the Clash of the Champions will determine who Randy Savage squares off against at SuperBrawl! You definitely won't want to miss either of those, so call your cable company and order them both on the first of the month!

Option 2: Announced for this week’s WCW Monday Nitro!

“The Natural” knows who he will be facing this week, because he was issued the challenge at the end of last week's Nitro: “The Monster” Vader! Will the World champion be left lying on the mat for a second time? Bam Bam Bigelow will also be in action, taking on a member of the Kings of Wrestling, and Ricky Steamboat will be breathing fire as he takes on Johnny B. Badd! And will we see Sting this week? For all the best action on Monday nights, tune into WCW Nitro!

Option 3: What the world ISN’T watching!

Last Saturday night, you saw the no doubt shocking face turns of “The Heartbroke Kid” and the Samoan Sumo; on Raw, feast your eyes on the newest, hottest feud the WWF can come up with: Warrior against Scotty Flamingo! Warrior came back from a vicious beating earlier in the night by Scotty in order to defeat the Burger King (non-title) before the main event of Vinnie Vegas powerbombing Tonto back to the reservation.

Option 4: Last weekend’s WCW Disney/MGM taping results!

The round table of Tony Schiavone, Gene Okerlund, and Mike Tenay were joined by Jimmy Hart. © Their first topic was the happenings btween Johnny B. Badd's crew and those who have risen against them. © Later, they hyped Dustin Rhodes facing Vader tomorrow on Nitro. Jimmy Hart provided some interesting quips thorughout the night as he offered to manage anyone who would call him. (C+)

Smash d. Bobby Walker (D+)

“Sting” d. Erin O'Grady (E)

The Flying Spyder and Surge cut a promo saying that they have a huge surprise awaiting the Dungeon of Doom at the Clash of the Champions! (E)

The Flying Spyder and Surge d. Steve Skyfire and Shane Helms (D)

Lance Storm d. Steve Armstrong (D)

The Steiner Brothers d. The Oddballs to retain the World Tag Team titles (B)

Option 5: Mean Gene’s backstage pass!

Monday Nitro was very lively backstage, as Steve Armstrong was performing some great impersonations of his fellow colleagues, and also Jimmy Del Ray was sharing some road stories with some of the younger crew. Meanwhile, Scott Steiner and Earl Clayton both brought in a pile of alcohol for the WCW Saturday Night taping, making spirits definitely raised for the evening! As far as my wife knows, I didn't have any. While a small minority said that WCW were out of line for the way some people blatantly mocked the WWF on this past Nitro, most have said that it was very fitting, and a lot of the detractors are being called out for being “WWF marks”! We know one of them was probably a Mr. Venom, and it's not as if anybody cares what he would have to say anyways.

Option 6: The Monday Night War Neilson ratings!

WCW Monday Nitro drew a great 8.01 rating this past week, fueled by intrigue of who the new member of the WCW roster is. Raw, which was fueled by the power of a Warrior who couldn't draw back in 1990 (let alone 1996) drew a meager 4.65.

Option 7: Tony Schiavone’s moment of the week!

Something not many may have seen if you only watch Nitro was a great match between Ricky Steamboat and Terry Gordy on WCW Saturday Night. Whatever night you have free, you should always make sure to catch World Championship Wrestling on television!

Option 8: Mike Tenay’s International Report!

This week, New Japan Pro-Wrestling comes back from their month hiatus. They are boasting quite the roster of athletes from around the globe, so it will be interesting to see what goes on over the next few months! Meanwhile, AAA have seen the beginnings of a feud between the legendary Lizmark and brash youngster Love Machine; whom most American fans will recognize as WCW's own Art Barr!

Option 9: A special gift from the WCW Catalog!

There's only a few weeks until Valentine's Day! Make sure to buy your sweetie something they'll love: something officially licensed by World Championship Wrestling!

------------------------------------------------------------------

Great episode of Nitro, man. I really like the way you introduced Bam Bam here, making him seem like a big deal right off the bat. He should be a great addition to your already stacked roster.

Thanks! Bigelow is only one of the people coming over, but he got the Rick Rude treatment. He actually was seen on both Raw AND Nitro at the same time this past time.

Kind of missing your WCW one of the 4 dynasties i follow close

I missed it too! :) I kinda let this slide a little while I got Glass Shatters up to snuff again, but now that it is beyond Mania, I am going to do what I can to keep them both up to date almost simultaneously. I know, I know... I say that every time...

WCW Monday Nitro

February 5th, 1996

Held at: Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma (Mid South)

Commentary: Tony Schiavone and Jesse “The Body” Ventura

Attendance: 11,528 (sold out!)

Show Runtime: Two Hours

Rating: B

This show increased our popularity in 7 regions.

Last Week on Monday Nitro

The show opens with a recap of last week, as Bam Bam Bigelow makes his shocking debut by challenging Dustin Rhodes. Rhodes would have accepted, but Johnny B. Badd interrupted and set up a tag team match instead. Lex Luger tried to call out Sting, but was attacked by The Giant. Randy Savage offered to make Bigelow a deal, but Bam Bam instead helped Rhodes defeat Badd and Wright. Then, almost to Savage's horror, Vader laid out the champion and made the challenge for this week's main event! Who will come out on top tonight on Nitro?!

Rating: B

The Champion's Pride

Following the opening pyrotechnic displays, we hear the theme of our World Heavyweight champion playing, ushering Dustin Rhodes down to the ring. “The Natural” is in a pretty foul mood, and he takes the microphone from Gary to talk about it. He says that even just re-watching what happened last week in that opening highlight reel was enough to make his Texas blood boil. He adds but he isn't a King of Wrestling, so instead of come out here to bore the fans to death by talking it over, he's out here like a man to call Vader out and accept his challenge for tonight! The KoW theme fills the arena, but rather than Vader, out walks “The Macho Man” Randy Savage! The man who will receive a title shot at SuperBrawl, with Woman at his side, gets another microphone handy, and he tells Dustin that if there's any challenge he will turn down, it will be Vader's. Savage tells Rhodes that he's no Hulk Hogan; he's no Sting; and there's no way he's a “Macho Man” yeah, and if he steps into the ring with Vader, Vader is going to eat him for breakfast, yeah! “The Natural” fires right back, telling Savage that he doesn't have to be any of them – and if Vader wants to eat him for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, he's going to make sure it's the hardest, toughest, roughest meal of Vader's life, so bring him out here to accept the challenge! Savage again dissuades Rhodes, saying that Vader will destroy him so badly that they will have to hand Randy the title at SuperBrawl, because Dustin will be in a hospital bed at best or maybe even a coffin! Woman even seems to be getting uncomfortable with how this is playing out, and Dustin finally points out the obvious – that Savage doesn't want Vader to win tonight or at the Clash, because he's afraid that Vader won't play ball at SuperBrawl! Savage is backpedalling his words, when the party gets crashed by “The Monster” Vader himself! Vader has another microphone to himself, and he says that Vader may be in the Kings of Wrestling, but Vader wants gold! Vader wants blood! And Vader will see Rhodes in the main event tonight, because it's Vader time! Dustin is pleased, as Savage leaves the ring, shaking his head. Is Randy really afraid of Vader? Can Dustin even defeat “The Monster”, or will this really be Vader time?

Rating: A

WCW US Tag Team Title Match

The Armstrong Brothers w/Col. Robert Parker vs. The Twilight Express w/Stan Lane

Just in case you forgot that we actually do still have the US Tag titles around, here's a title match! The Stud Stable team of Brad and BG Armstrong spend most of this match running from Bobby and Terry, but the ending is all about “The Colonel”. He gets involved by tripping up Eaton when the TX go for the Rocket Launcher, and while Taylor and Lane are trying to get at the manager, BG is able to roll a wounded Bobby up for the three count.

Match Time: 7:50

Rating: C-

Sgt. Craig “Pitbull” Pittman vs. Rick Martel

This is a simple match, as Pittman tries to regain some of the footing he's lost thanks to the constant distraction that is his tag partner, Disco Inferno. Martel's work here is like fine art, as he outwrestles the marine. “Pitbull” doesn't give up, and he uses brawling tactics to get on top, but just as he does, out comes Disco; but not to celebrate as he usually would, as Tony points out that he hears Inferno telling Pittman that he has found them a manager! Craig is telling him to leave, he doesn't care, when he gets blasted with a high standing dropkick from Rick, which stuns him enough for the three count!

“Professor” Mike Tenay meets the oddball partners in the back, and he asks them about this supposed new manager. Pittman says that he doesn't care about a manager, Disco needs to stop costing him matches! He walks off alone, as Disco says that he has gotten them the best manager he could find – and in walks Jimmy Hart! Jimmy says that he's been looking for the best clients, and he thinks he's found them; as Disco tells him not to worry about “Sgt. Pepper” because he'll come around soon enough!

Match Time: 5:02

Ratings: C+ / D+

Cactus Jack vs. Lance Diamond

A solid match, despite being a showcase for Jack the whole way. The sneaky Lance does some damage here and there, but Cactus, with the Clash of the Champions in his sights, cannot be stopped, as he makes the match spill out of the ring in order to hit his Cactus Elbow from the apron, then fires Diamond back into the ring to hit the double arm DDT to take a win faster than you can say “Simon says”.

Jack's music is interrupted by the sound of Scott Hall approaching, and “The Outsider” says that he isn't all that impressed. Hall tells Cactus that he isn't here to fight, but neither is Jack's partner on Sunday, Brian Pillman. Hall says that he and Jack have had a few go-rounds before, so just as a precaution to him, he wants Cactus to ask himself; can he trust Brian Pillman? After all, Brian was just leading the New World Order not long ago, and that Brian hasn't even wrestled a full match since before Starrcade. Hall urges Cactus to just stay home on Sunday, stay out of KoW business, because if not, he could become just one more... for the good guys. But he adds, before he goes, that just because he wasn't here to fight, doesn't mean he's the only one here. Just then, Syxx attacks from behind! He slams Cactus into the turnbuckle post shoulder-first, and then locks in a crossface chicken wing on him! Trainers rush the ring as Cactus shrieks, as Tony says that there has to be some serious damage done here tonight before that tag team match this Sunday at the Clash of the Champions!

Match Time: 5:20

Notes: Hall improvised well, but Syxx looked lost in his role as the aggressor.

Ratings: C+ / B

JPL, Rey Mysterio Jr., and Marty Jannetty vs. “Youth Warrior” Juventud Guerrera and The Ladykillers w/Rick Rude

Tony points out that this six-man tag came about because finding partners was the only way that Magnum TA and the rest of the Championship Committee would let JPL get his hands on both of The Ladykillers at once like he wanted. This match goes all over with these young superstars (and Marty Jannetty) giving it their all to pick up a win. Rey and Juventud certainly have a lot to prove, only six days away from their singles match at the Clash. They end up taking one another out on the outside of the ring, and that's when Rude slips into the ring and nails Jannetty with the Rude Awakening! Sexton slips into the ring and picks up the pieces, taking an easy pinfall after that interference.

That isn't good enough for JPL, however, as he rallies Rey and Marty into a post-match brawl with their foes! Jannetty and Mysterio hit stereo suicide dives on the Ladykillers, as JPL drills Guerrera with the Pedigree, and the fan favorites stand tall; but will Rey be standing tall on Sunday? And when may JPL get his hands on Sexton and Steele again?

Match Time: 9:24

Ratings: C / D-

One More Match for Clash of the Champions

“Hot Rod” Roddy Piper joins Nitro in the ring, and he says that somebody has been going out of their way to bother him as of late. “As if it wasn't bad enough that I had to take out one six-foot-six blond bimbo, now I got another one at my heels!” Piper says that Eric Bischoff offered him the choice of if he wanted to get Barry Windham in the ring at the Clash, but says that there's no reason for him to do that. But then, he realized that there's no reason not to, and maybe, just maybe, it'll send a message of unity if he gets a tag team match. To that end, out of the back again comes Randy Savage, who Piper introduces as his partner at the Clash. Savage says that the Kings of Wrestling have never been stronger, and it doesn't matter who Windham takes on as his partner because Savage and Piper are the cream of the crop, yeah!

This brings out “The Blackjack” Barry Windham, who says that he was disappointed that Piper wanted to hide behind Savage at the Clash, but if it means he gets his hands on the two, then he'll take any opportunity he can get. Windham says that he could be sly and not announce his partner until this Sunday, but he wouldn't want the KoW to have that excuse when they get beaten; and he brings out someone else who's wanted to get his hands on the KoW as of late, Diamond Dallas Page! DDP says that he's already gotten tired of fighting with the “B-team” (referencing Jeff Jarrett and California Kip) and he's ready to take down the heads of the scum! Barry and Page raise their hands and challenge them to come get them, as DDP promises that on Sunday, somebody is gonna feel the bang!

Notes: Roddy looked good here, but DDP underperformed.

Rating: B-

Top of the Hour

The start of hour two of Monday Nitro is punctuated by another round of pyro, and we join Tony Schiavone, Jesse Ventura, and Gene Okerlund at the commentary booth. The three discuss what we saw at the opening of the show, the words exchanged between Randy Savage and Dustin Rhodes, as well as Vader coming out to talk about the Kings of Wrestling. The speculation runs rampant between them as to Savage's state of mind as well as how fragile the alliance may be between the KoW and “The Monster”, but then it is time to head to the ring!

Notes: Tony improvised well here.

Rating: B-

Bubba Rogers w/Col. Robert Parker vs. Richard Stevenson w/Ted DiBiase

This match has nothing to do with any storylines going on, and it's kind of a nice change of pace, isn't it? Tony and Jesse discuss the training that DiBiase has paid for Richard to get so that he can stay in WCW, but note that Rogers is quite the test for someone who is still technically learning. Bubba bounces Stevenson around the ring, but the attorney slips out of Bubba's grip when he goes for the Bubba Slam, and pulls him into a small package for a shocking three count! Richard gets out of there fast, as Rogers is up and kicking at the bottom rope in anger at the decision!

Match Time: 7:16

Rating: C-

An Important Interv-ehh, Interruption

“Mean” Gene Okerlund is backstage with a phone, and he says that he has gotten in touch with “The Total Package” Lex Luger from his home in Chicago, Illinois. Gene asks Lex for a medical report after the attack last week at the massive hands of The Giant, to which Luger says that doctors told him to take it easy; but no way will that keep him down for long. Okerlund then starts to ask about Sting, and Luger can audibly be heard choking up a little – until Jeff Jarrett enters the frame, and he hangs the phone up! Jarrett, California Kip, and “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff get into the room, with Jeff saying that nobody gives a crap about some whiny loser like Lex when you could be talking to Kings of Wrestling! Jarrett says that DDP can try and talk about he and Kip being “B-team” all he wants, but if he wants to step up to the big leagues of Randy and Roddy, then he is gonna be pleading for the days of getting beaten down by Jeff and Kip! Orndorff then adds that this Sunday, he finally gets his match against the traitor Meng, and that United States title is going to look so good around his “wonderful” waist!

Notes: Kip underperformed, not talking at all.

Rating: B-

Promotion with Authority

WCW Championship Committee Representative Magnum TA is in the ring when we come back from a break. He is out here to promote the Clash of the Champions special taking place this Sunday, as he announces all of the matches that we know about so far. He talks about how Vader may be facing Dustin Rhodes for the World title on that show, if Vader is able to defeat Rhodes in tonight's main event. As Magnum is talking about the show, out to the ring comes Executive Vice President Eric Bischoff. Eric, looking smug as ever in his leather jacket and KoW shirt, and he talks about how everyone should make sure to watch the Clash; as now, they get to watch Roddy Piper and Randy Savage! Eric says that he is so sure of a KoW victory, that he would make a sidebet with Magnum; that if the KoW win, then Randy can get to choose a stipulation for his World title match at SuperBrawl! TA says that he will take that bet, with Barry Windham getting a singles match against Roddy Piper at SuperBrawl if Barry and Page win the tag match! The two authority figures shake on the deal, and this match for the Clash of the Champions now has big SuperBrawl implications!

Notes: Magnum did some masterful interactions with the crowd, while Eric performed well, really enjoying the freedom to be off-script.

Rating: B

A Time to Fight, and a Time to Flee!

Rick Martel is ready to leave the arena, but he gets stopped by “Lionheart” Chris Jericho, with The Warlord right behind him. With his backup right there at his side, Jericho gets right in Martel's face, flaunting his nose guard and saying that if he was at full health, he would take Rick out right now; but instead, The Warlord will do it for him, because Warlord is the number one Jerichoholic bodyguard! But as the camera pulls back from Martel and Jericho, Rick smiles – as Warlord has wandered away, pulled away by the catering table leftovers being taken away. As soon as Jericho realizes that he's on his own, he immediately turns and runs, and Martel chases him until Chris is eventually outside the building! Rick laughs, and Tony Schiavone gets a big laugh out of “that putz Jericho” as we head back out to the ring.

Rating: C

Devon King w/ Harley Race vs. Bam Bam Bigelow

This one seems more like a mugging on paper, but King actually manages to hold his own and puts on a really great match when against this larger, more weathered opponent. It appears that the only time Devon really has problems is when he starts listening to Race, who wants him to punish Bigelow. That's when Bam Bam makes his big comeback, and he puts this match away with a diving headbutt.

With the match over, Bam Bam gets a microphone. He says that he has nothing to do on Sunday, so he puts out the call to Harley Race to bring any KoW member to the Clash of the Champions to get burned down by Bam Bam Bigelow!

Match Time: 6:49

Ratings: B- / C-

One More for the Road (Warriors)

“Mean” Gene still seems a little shaken about what happened earlier, but this time his interview time goes off without a hitch as he stands by with Steve Austin and The Road Warriors. Animal says that the Four Horsemen have been a dynasty in wrestling, but nothing in comparison to the Road Warriors, and it's about time that one side or the other close down operations for good! Hawk tells 'em that the only thing he's upset about is that he won't be getting his hands on Ric Flair this Sunday; but says that “Latino Feet” and “the crying Canadian” will have to do, along with their old favorite punching bag, Arn Anderson! Austin takes over for the rest of the interview, saying that he doesn't give a damn about the other Horsemen, he doesn't even really care about these two at his side; if they get in his way, he'll drop them with a Stunner too. But he will get his hands on Owen Hart, and that's the bottom line.

Notes: Austin came across very well.

Rating: B

Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat vs. Johnny B. Badd w/Badd Girl

This one an incredible match, nothing that you would be shocked with by seeing “The Dragon” on the card. He and Johnny show that they are very much some of the best wrestlers in the world, let alone in WCW, as they go hold-for-hold and punch-for-chop until the point their companions all can't hold themselves back anymore. Ron Simmons, Dean Malenko, Alex Wright, and Harlem Heat join the ring, and referee Mark Curtis has no other option but to ring the bell, as the crowd boos this non-decisive finish loudly. Jesse says that he thinks people would pay big money to see this match again in a way that would have a full ending.

Match Time: 11:56

Rating: B

“The Natural” Dustin Rhodes vs. “The Monster” Vader w/Woman

Before we go to the main event, we have to take one final commercial break, and we see “The Natural” walking toward the ring; don't go anywhere, fans!

This match represents the biggest challenge we have seen Dustin face since becoming champion, as Jesse points out that bigger people may come along in the sport of wrestling, but no man is as bad as “The Monster” Vader. Vader dissects Rhodes here, but Dustin doesn't back down at any point. The crowd are still exhausted after the previous match, but they get an absolute treat for free TV in this one, but we don't get to find out who would win this one as Randy Savage comes to the ring. Woman has Tommy Young's attention, while Savage and Vader get into an argument; Vader saying that Randy needs to back off, because it's Vader time! When Vader turns around and pulls Rhodes up to finish him off, Savage gets a steel chair! He swings, but we don't know who he was going for – as Dustin's face clangs off of it when he punched Vader so hard that he had fallen out of the way! Savage is ushered out of the ring, as Vader hits the Vader Bomb splash on a battered Dustin, and he scores the pinfall over the World Heavyweight champion! The show closes with Vader screaming “It's time!” as Tony says that he has punched his card for this Sunday at the Clash of the Champions! Make sure to watch Pro, Saturday Night, and Worldwide as well as the Clash by the end of this week for the best action!

Dustin Rhodes vs. Vader

Comments: Rhodes only just won the belt and he shouldn't be dropping it just yet I think.

Comments: Not quite sure about this so I'm just going with my gut here.

Dustin Rhodes vs. Vader

Comments: I have a REALLY bold prediction here - I don't know why, but since this feud started, I have been thinking that Dustin's Cinderella story will end pretty quickly, much like Christian's World Heavyweight Title run back in 2011. It's just a feeling.

Barry Windham & Diamond Dallas Page vs. Roddy Piper & Randy Savage

Ok, so I've wanted to read this Dynasty for SO long now, but there's like fifty years of action to catch up on!! Anyway, I've been looking at it here and there over the last six months or so, and in the last few days I've caught up on everything from Starrcade onwards.

I just want to say, WOW, Beej! What a fantastic dynasty you've got going on here, I now know I'm going to have to read the entire thing over the next however long it takes to do it. But anyway, at least I'm up with current events now, so, without further ado...

Official Prediction Card

Dustin Rhodes vs. Vader

Comments: I just can't see Dustin losing the World Heavyweight Championship so quickly after winning it. Randy Savage to cost Vader the title here.

Barry Windham & Diamond Dallas Page vs. Roddy Piper & Randy Savage

Comments: This one was a real toss-up, but I like the idea of Savage getting his own stipulation for Superbrawl to stack the odds in the KoW's favour. Because that's what they do, right??

Steve Austin & The Road Warriors vs. The Four Horsemen (Arn Anderson, Owen Hart, Eddy Guerrero)

Comments: Austin, always, forever (although both Canadian and American beer sucks :p )

Cactus Jack & Brian Pillman vs. Scott Hall & Syxx

Comments: Pillmania is alive, Brother!!

Meng vs. Paul Orndorff

Comments: I don't think he'll lose the US Championship just yet.

Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Jeff Jarrett

Comments: Gotta keep the new guy strong.

Rick Martel vs. The Warlord

Comments: He'll get his shot at Jericho

The Dungeon of Doom (Biohazard, Rio the Renegade, & The Annihilator) vs. Surge, Flying Spyder, & The Hurricane

Comments: Hahaha this storyline is so stupid it's just plain fantastic. Very well written and enjoyable.

The Four Horsemen (Arn Anderson, Owen Hart, Eddy Guerrero) w/Bobby Heenan vs. The Road Warriors and Steve Austin

Time Limit: 30:00

Referee: Mark Curtis

The show opens with huge six-man tag team action, and before the bell even sounds this is a wild brawl. Austin chases Hart around the ring as Anderson and Guerrero try to go toe-to-toe with Hawk and Animal, and Mark Curtis has no chance at stopping this to ring the bell until the Horsemen get blasted out of the ring; Hawk clotheslines Arn to the floor, and Animal gorilla presses Eddy over the top rope and down onto both of his partners! Now the bell can be rung, as Mark Curtis evens the match down to Arn Anderson and Hawk. It starts out well for “The Enforcer” as he utilizes some leverage moves to confuse the big man, but that all goes south as soon as Hawk catches Arn coming off the ropes and drills him to the mat with a body slam. Hawk tags out to Animal, who comes in and starts whipping the veteran from pillar to post, before leaving him lying with a leaping shoulder tackle! Austin enters the ring and it's more of the same, as he takes the dazed Arn around the ring in a headlock before turning his back to Mark Curtis to punch Anderson on top of the head. Animal comes back in, but “The Brain” does what he does best by causing a chaotic scene, distracting Mark Curtis and allowing Eddy and Owen to enter the ring – and the three of the Horsemen are able to finally take the Warrior down! Hawk and Austin yell at Curtis, but the damage is already done, as Owen tags in and continues the onslaught. The Horsemen begin cycling back and forth between one another, keeping the Animal down on the mat. Eddy gets a little too cocky though, thinking he could hold Animal down in a rear chinlock. Animal fights to his feet, and he hurls Guerrero across the ring! Eddy makes the tag to Owen, but Animal tags in Steve Austin! Owen finally has to face off with Austin, and Steve starts hammering away with hard right hands! Eddy tries to get involved, but he takes a right hand as well! Anderson doesn't even get to be involved, as Hawk and Animal charge the ring and take Arn over the top with a double clothesline! In the ring, Austin has stomped on Hart in the corner, but Owen slips away before he can get hit with the Stunner. This whole match breaks down again, as the Warriors do battle with Anderson and Hart on the outside, while Eddy circles Austin. Guerrero goes for a crucifix, but Steve blocks it, before countering with a Stunner! Austin goes for a pin, but Mark Curtis is busy with the brawl outside – and that's when Hart slips in and smashes Austin with a beer bottle! Hart makes the cover as Heenan tells Curtis to turn around, and Owen scores the 1... 2... 3! The Horsemen steal one!

But wait! Mark Curtis looks around, and with the blood on the back of Austin's head and the shards of glass in the ring, he puts two and two together and reverses his decision, disqualifying the Horsemen and awarding the match to Austin and the Warriors! The crowd's boos turn to loud cheers as the Horsemen (and especially Heenan) throw a fit on the outside! Austin motions for them to come back into the ring, but this one is left for another time, as Anderson and the two protege Horsemen leave the ring.

Winners in 12:01 by DQ: Steve Austin and the Road Warriors

Backstage with “Mean” Gene

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/geneokerlund.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/dustinrhodes.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/barrywindham.jpghttp://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/ddp.jpg

“Mean” Gene Okerlund is backstage, and he is proud to introduce his guests at this time, World champion Dustin Rhodes and two men who have huge weight on their shoulders tonight, Barry Windham and Diamond Dallas Page! Rhodes does the initial talking here, saying that he made his challenge, and now he's going to lie in it; he said he wanted competition as the kind of fighting champion WCW hasn't had ever since Sting last held the belt, and now he's going to have the toughest challenge most men will ever face in Vader. Rhodes says that he hopes Vader is not looking past him tonight, because despite the match with Randy Savage coming up at SuperBrawl, there's no way that Dustin is looking anywhere but at “The Monster” tonight! Windham adds that the Kings of Wrestling are all going down tonight, as the three of them are on top of their games tonight and will do all they can to do WCW proud! Page says that he has had a long road from being a fan, to a manager, to the United States champ, and now to fighting classics like Piper and Savage. He says that he has embraced the people calling him “The People's Champion” ever since he took Hulk Hogan to the limit, and tonight he's ready to take that scum down and earn Barry a singles match with Piper at SuperBrawl, and after the attack Savage launched on him on WCW Saturday Night, DDP will take great pleasure in making him feel the BANG! The three of them start high fiving and yelling “bang” to one another, as Gene says that he wishes all three of them all the luck in their matches. He then sends it back to Tony and Mike in the arena!

Notes: DDP's new gimmick of Fan's Own (wholesome) rated an A.

A New Hero Emerges

Tony and Mike quickly explain that Jesse is away from the desk for a few moments, but really it's because management didn't feel Ventura could call this with a straight enough face to really sell the angle. We start with a pre-taped promo in a dark room, as Surge speaks about how their league of avengers are going to rid WCW of the Dungeon of Doom, and especially now that they have the help of one more man. He introduces their partner tonight as fastest man alive, who can move so quickly that it appears he is still standing still: the legendary King Puma!

The Dungeon of Doom (Biohazard, Rio the Renegade, and The Annihilator) w/Dr. Karnage vs. Surge, The Flying Spyder, and King Puma

Time Limit: 30:00

Referee: Randy Anderson

The massive King Puma stands taller than all others in this match, and his “super speed” is shown as Biohazard, Rio, and Annihilator are bounced around like ping pong balls when the match starts – and it appears as though he didn't even move! The Dungeon are scattered, but they aer able to do at least a little bit of damage to the smaller two partners. However, there is nothing they can do to combat the new hero on the block, and eventually Dr. Karnage calls his troops away from the fight, heading backstage and living to fight another day! The superheroes celebrate in the ring as Randy Anderson administers the academic count out.

Winners in 8:21 by count out: King Puma, Surge, and Flying Spyder

Notes: King Puma's gimmick of a Comic Book Hero (Comedy) rated a B+.

As Clear as Black and White

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/kow.jpg

Eric Bischoff laughs back in the Kings of Wrestling dressing room, as Roddy Piper and Randy Savage throw darts at a picture of Dustin Rhodes and Barry Windham. They look into the camera and Piper talks about how he is here tonight to show that the Kings of Wrestling are the greatest – so why are they all facing off with people who couldn't win a balloon war if they had a super soaker? He says that he, Savage, and Bischoff are the men who killed Hulkamania, and someone like Barry Windham thinks he can do something to them? He calls him “as worrisome as a cloudy day” as Jeff Jarrett adds in that there's no worries about DDP either. Jarrett says that this supposed “People's Champion” is a chump just like the rest of the WCW people, and he better not forget about Jeff because he may just have a tune to play for Page yet! Paul Orndorff slips in a few words as he says the United States title finally comes to the Kings of Wrestling tonight, and he will be the most wonderful champion in the title's history! “Macho Man” closes the promo off, saying that Dustin Rhodes and Vader do battle tonight for the privilege of dropping the World title to “The Macho Man” in a few weeks; and after he and Piper dispose of Barry and Dallas tonight, the stipulation he names for the match will have them ready to hand the title over to him like Magnum should have done in the first place! The Kings of Wrestling are definitely ready for tonight.

Notes: Piper and Savage looked good.

Rick Martel vs. The Warlord w/Chris Jericho

Time Limit: 30:00

Referee: Charles Robinson

Jesse Ventura and Mike Tenay switch out for this one, and Jesse says that he was just back talking to the Horsemen. He says that Ric Flair is said to have something to say tomorrow night on Nitro that fans won't want to miss. Warlord immediately takes over, using his size and strength advantages to power Martel down. Chris Jericho at ringside jumps around and cheers on his bodyguard to keep up the pain, as Martel gets shoved into the turnbuckles viciously. Rick hears the cheering from Jericho as well though, and it seems to urge him on as much as it does The Warlord. Martel fights back, peppering his large foe with punches and dropkicks, and he finally picks up the win by forcing Warlord into the ropes where Jericho was standing, before pulling him back into a victory roll for the 1 – 2 – 3!

Winner in 8:34: Rick Martel

Notes: Jericho did good work at ringside.

Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. “Youth Warrior” Juventud Guerrera

Time Limit: 30:00

Referee: Randy “Pee Wee” Anderson

Mike Tenay rejoins commentary as this match starts. Randy Anderson is barely able to keep up as these two cruiserweights fly around the ring in this one, as the high flying takes little time to go all over the ring. Tenay fills in the two men's histories, how they are of similar age and backgrounds and thus it is of no surprise that a feud of one-upsmanship would start between the two; but that “Juvi” started it over something as trivial as Mysterio having Marty Jannetty as his partner instead of Guerrera for a night. The action is fast and furious, and it goes on and on... unfortunately the crowd drifts here, as these two put on the second longest match of the evening, and the WCW American audience just don't care enough about them to maintain their energy for that long. Mysterio moves out from under a 450 splash, but Juventud lands on his feet. Rey tries to hook up a hurricanrana, but Guerrera blocks it – but Rey double blocks the powerbomb attempt by flipping behind him and hitting a reverse version of the hurricanrana! Mysterio rolls with the move, finding himself on the outside of the ring apron and springboarding in with a legdrop that picks up the three count!

Winner in 16:34: Rey Mysterio Jr.

WCW United States Heavyweight Championship

Meng vs. “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff w/Harley Race

Time Limit: 45:00

Referee: Charles Robinson

The championship, as prestigious as it is, takes second stage here in comparison to the wild brawl between these former Tag Team champions. Fists and chops fly all over this one, and Charles Robinson has the unenviable task of trying to keep order here. He fails at that pretty much from the opening bell, and nearly eats a kick from Meng for his troubles. Orndorff takes over the only way he can: cheating. He thumbs Meng in the eye and takes the match outside, but slamming Meng's head against the steel steps yields no results as Meng comes back up screaming and chops Paul in the chest! Orndorff takes over on the inside as well, hooking an abdominal stretch while utilizing the ropes for extra leverage. Robinson catches him though, and Meng comes back with throat thrusts and a high savate kick, before heading straight into the Tongan Deathgrip! Orndorff resists it longer than most, nearly reaching the ropes to cause a break, but in the end, he succumbs to the nerve hold and submits.

Meng has done his job and is ready to leave the ring as Robinson tries to give him his US title, but from behind Meng quickly gets attacked! During the Deathgrip, Colonel Parker had led out Terry Gordy and Bubba Rogers, and the two behemoths lay a two-on-one beating that even the tough US champion gets taken down to the mat from. Gordy and Rogers take turns shoving Meng into first a lariat and then a Bubba Slam, and as they stand over him the message is clear: the Stud Stable are coming for the US title again!

Winner in 11:56 and still WCW US champion: Meng

Notes: Terry Gordy has started a Bully gimmick, rated B.

“Mean” Gene is backstage giving some thoughts on the next WCW Hotline, saying that only a few days remain before two of the WWF's premier players are free to make the jump to World Championship Wrestling. He announces that if you call the Hotline this week, Okerlund will name off one of the men who are on their way to WCW! Gene's shill is interrupted by Vader, who grunts about how nobody cares who is coming from up north, all they care is about the WCW World champion and that tonight, it'll be VADER! He says this will finally be the night that Vader takes the gold home again to the Kings of Wrestling, no matter what WCW or Randy Savage says! Gene tries to pry on that comment, but Vader leaves, laughing about being the future champion. He tries to talk to Woman, but she won't give him a single glance. “I guess your mind on business means you don't think about anything personal,” he says, before sending it back to Tony and Jesse!

“Blackjack” Barry Windham and “The People's Champion” Diamond Dallas Page vs. “Hot Rod” Roddy Piper and “Macho Man” Randy Savage w/Woman

Time Limit: 30:00

Referee: Nick Patrick

Woman takes her time coming down to the ring for this match after having been back with Vader. By the time she gets to ringside, Piper is getting beaten around by Windham and Page, just before Savage charges the corner and knocks DDP off the apron. Nick Patrick starts chasing Savage out of the ring, and the crowd buzz over this one. Tony reiterates the wager made by Eric Bischoff and Magnum TA about this match, that Barry Windham goes one-on-one with Roddy Piper if his team wins or Randy Savage names the type of match at SuperBrawl if his team wins. This is a match between four of the best athletes in WCW, perhaps even the history of wrestling, and it shows here as they lay it all on the line to try and get their way in the wager. Piper makes the tag out to Savage, and Randy steps into the ring with Windham. These two are an immediate slugfest, as Savage hits with the jab, but Barry takes over with clubbing right hands. He sends the number one contender into the ropes, but Savage pulls himself out of the ring to regroup. The Kings of Wrestling reformulate their plan, but whatever they start to figure out they aren't allowed to get into an idea of, as Diamond Dallas imitates the earlier cruiserweight match with a dive over the top rope onto Savage and Piper! The new plan of the KoW turns out to be as simple as Piper drawing Page into the KoW corner and trapping him there, as he makes a blind tag to Savage who comes into the match with a double axe handle to Dallas. Savage works him down on the mat, as Piper comes in and gets in his licks when he feels like it as well. We hit a hammerlock segment for a little bit, but not for long as Page starts coming back, finally rushing toward the ropes before stopping, sending “Hot Rod” out of the ring! Just as Piper starts going around the ring (with some unnoticed help from Woman) Dallas crawls his way to the corner, and just as Savage charges across the ring, Windham gets the tag! “The Blackjack” comes in a house of fire, cleaning house on both of his opponents, but a wild lariat gets ducked by Piper and decimates Nick Patrick! That is when Woman sends up the signal, and down the aisle comes California Kip and Jeff Jarrett, who immediately start pounding on Page. Barry sets Piper up and hits him with the superplex, but there's no referee – instead, the only hand close is the massive one that pulls Windham up from the cover, and The Giant drills Windham to the mat with possibly the biggest chokeslam he's ever delivered! Savage takes the initiative, and he tells Giant to stand in the corner... and he stands upon the shoulders of The Giant in order to deliver a flying elbow to Barry! Piper dumps water on Patrick to wake him up, and Nick makes the cover 1... 2... 3, and the Kings have stolen this one.

The match might be over, but the beatdown isn't, as Savage and Kip hold DDP for Jarrett to line up a guitar shot to the unprotected forehead! However...

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/lexluger.jpg

It's the “Total Package”! Lex Luger storms the ring and starts sending bodies flying, finally locking Jarrett in the Torture Rack to send a message to the KoW! Trainers come out and help DDP out of the ring, but it appears Luger has something more on his mind than just this...

Winners in 11:40: Roddy Piper and Randy Savage

Notes: In the save segment, Savage looked good but Kip performed poorly.

We Need No Hero

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/lexluger.jpg

Lex gets into the ring and obtains a microphone from Gary Cappetta. He once again makes the call for Sting, saying that his friends are waiting for him to come back home to World Championship Wrestling; to stop hanging out in the rafters and help stop the KoW once and for all! Luger urges the crowd to come alive, clapping and cheering if they want to see Sting flying the banner for all the “Little Stingers” again, and they do so, very loudly.

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/ricksteiner.jpg

Of all people to interrupt this, “The Dog-Faced Gremlin” Rick Steiner comes down to the ring, to the confusion of all. The World Tag Team champion gets a mic of his own, and he tells Luger that he's been sitting back for a little while now, and with all due respect to him, he's sounding like a broken record! He tells Lex to open his eyes: Sting isn't the same man anymore, and WCW have to deal with that now. Steiner says that Lex has been taking this battle on for months, and all of WCW have been fighting the KoW, and the one thing they don't need is someone like Luger getting sidetracked like this because of Sting. Rick even goes so far as to say that if Sting wants to act like a big crybaby, let him hide in the rafters then, because he's never needed Sting and never will! He shoves Luger, telling him to wake up; WCW need him, and in a war zone, there's no time for getting soft and calling your friends. Luger is legitimately shocked, as is Tony Schiavone, but Jesse Ventura calls Rick smart in saying what Luger may have needed to hear now.

Notes: Luger really worked the crowd well with his improvising, and Rick improvised well.

We now head backstage, where Randy Savage, Eric Bischoff, and Woman are celebrating the big win in the tag match. Bischoff says that the plan worked out great, as now Savage gets to choose what type of match he wins the World title in! Randy talks about how he hopes Dustin or Vader have been snapping into their Slim Jims, because they're going to need all the energy and protein they can if they want to hang with “The Macho Man”! He says that he will be “makin' his list and checkin' it twice” and will take his good time at announcing what kind of match the championship comes to him in. Oooooooh yeah!

At the other end of the arena, Mike Tenay has a special word from Magnum TA, who says that while, yes, Randy Savage now has the right to choose the match at SuperBrawl, the Kings of Wrestling don't have the ball in their court yet; SuperBrawl is still a few weeks away, and the old adage says, there's plenty of slip between a cup and a lip!

Bam Bam Bigelow makes his way down to the ring, having challenged a KoW member to a match. He awaits his opponent, as the KoW music plays. Bigelow begins to get a little antsy about it, until...

The attack comes from everywhere, as The Giant, Devon King, Smash, California Kip, and Jeff Jarrett all enclose the ring and the man inside of it! Jarrett takes a microphone and tells a nearly unconscious Bigelow that no man can stand up to the entire Kings of Wrestling, and no matter how big he may be, he will be no different. Giant drills him to the mat with a brutal chokeslam, and everyone puts the boots to Bigelow, leaving the “Beast from the East” a wounded animal on the canvas.

Notes: Giant came across very well.

Scott Hall & Syxx w/Woman vs. Cactus Jack and “Loose Cannon” Brian Pillman

Time Limit: 30:00

Referee: Nick Patrick

This one starts out with a video that recaps what has gone on ever since Starrcade for Brian Pillman; getting his nWo (and more of his sanity) taken away from him, and then “Pillmania” making it's first appearance to cost Scott Hall the World title at Battlebowl. Then we see Hall and Syxx's beatdown on Cactus Jack, leading to Brian and Cactus forming an uneasy alliance, but one that could be fruitful in their hatred of the two men they face tonight!

Brian starts this match with Hall in the ring, and Hall laughs him off, throwing his toothpick at Pillman. Pillman retaliates by ripping his shirt off and throwing it into Hall's face, before charging him with punches! Nick Patrick has to pull Brian off of Hall, who tags in Syxx. The match between cruiserweight pioneers speeds this one up, but not for long as Brian is able to monkey flip Syxx almost out of his boots! After delivering a bit more punishment to the smallest KoW member, Brian makes the tag to Jack, who comes in with just as much fire by hitting a Cactus clothesline that sends Syxx out of the ring! That fire proves to be his downfall though, as he goes for a flipping body attack off the apron, but Hall pulls his partner out of the way, causing Jack to splat onto the concrete floor! He nearly gets counted out, but when he gets into the ring, Scott is waiting for him with stomps and elbow drops. Cactus takes a lot of punishment now, as Hall and Syxx unload on him with vicious slams and martial arts style kicks, respectively. Cactus gets in some of his own however, as he dodges a charge in the corner by Syxx and rains forearms down upon his face, shouting “Bang bang!” to the crowd – but finding himself in the wrong part of the ring and getting clotheslined from the ring apron by Hall. Jack makes his final stand after Hall starts slapping him around, taunting Cactus to get to his feet; and when he does, Cactus throws hard right hands, and finally hits a DDT out of desperation! “The Loose Cannon” gets the hot tag, and he hits some clotheslines of his own on both Hall and Syxx, body slamming both men around the ring before taking Hall out of the equation with a flying forearm! Cactus drills Syxx with the double arm DDT, and Brian starts cupping his hand to his ear toward the crowd! They respond with loud cheers, so he hits a legdrop on Syxx, before making the cover, scoring the 1, 2, and the 3 to give he and Cactus a big win!

Winners in 10:02: Brian Pillman and Cactus Jack

A Giant Revenge Match Made

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/ericbischoff.jpg

Eric Bischoff is seemingly all alone for a change, as he walks around the backstage area on his way to get a coffee or something. He is very smug; the KoW may not have added the US title to it's ranks tonight, but the World title is very much within reach after Savage and Piper's win, and besides that, the KoW have sent very loud messages most of the night.

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/barrywindham.jpg

But that is when Barry Windham shoves Bischoff into a corner by his jacket! Windham screams in Eric's face, telling him to wipe that look off his face, because Piper and Savage didn't beat him tonight, the KoW's goon squad did! Windham says that he wants retribution, and since Eric is the power in the KoW, he's the man to see. Barry says that one man is responsible for him losing his match tonight, and so he wants a match on Nitro tomorrow night – against The Giant! Eric tells Barry to let him go, and says that if Windham wants to lose another match, all he had to do was ask; but because he came and put his hands on Bischoff, Eric is going to go to Giant and tell him to make sure that tomorrow night, Windham doesn't leave the ring on his own power! He's got his match! Windham leaves, and Eric is flustered, but shakes it off with the thoughts of chokeslams on his mind!

WCW World Heavyweight Championship

“The Natural” Dustin Rhodes vs. “The Monster” Vader w/Woman

Time Limit: 60:00

Referee: Tommy Young

A hype video before the match sets the stage, as we see Vader assaulting the new World champion time and time again. The announcer's voice tells us that tonight in his backyard of Austin, Texas, could very well be the last stand of “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes as he faces “The Monster” one-on-one... but will Randy Savage have a role to play?

The time for talking and speculating is over, as champion and challenger square up to one another. The two can be seen talking to one another, and finally yelling at each other, until the champion throws the first punch, and this one is on! Rhodes seems to be putting all that he can behind each right hand, driving “The Monster” back into the ropes. He shoots Vader into the other side of the ring, but (as Jesse points out) Vader is no mere mortal man, and he shrugs Dustin's attempt at a clothesline off with barely a blink. Dustin starts pounding away on Vader's face and head again, rocking his opponent before going for a bodyslam – but all that does is hurt Dustin's back, and Vader takes his head off with one lariat! Woman applauds in the background, as Vader keeps the pain train right on schedule by pulling Rhodes up and body slamming him with ease. He goes for a pin, but only gets a one count before Rhodes slips his shoulder up. Vader shoves Dustin into the corner, and he follows him in with hard rights and lefts to the body as Rhodes tries to cover up. The count of Tommy Young finally makes Vader back off, but only at the risk of disqualification. Vader then starts blatantly choking Rhodes, and again he pulls off at the count of four. The champion isn't looking very good in the early going of the match, but as Tony says, you should never count a Rhodes down, talking about how he's seen Dustin's father take a ton of punishment and still come back swinging. Jesse quips that Dusty was never in the ring with Vader before, and besides that, Dustin has never defeated Vader one-on-one. Tony notes that the Horsemen said that Dustin couldn't defeat all four of them, and look how that turned out, but again Jesse points out that as great athletes as the Four Horsemen are... they are not a one-on-one match with Vader. Vader dominates Rhodes for the next few minutes, sending him from pillar to post and squashing him in the corner. Vader misses a splash, but that doesn't deter him much as he comes back swinging with more pounding forearms to the champion's face. Vader is in charge of this match completely, and that's when Randy Savage happens down toward the ring.

“The Macho Man” stands by at ringside to watch, unnoticed by both men in the ring but not by the rest of the world. Dustin finally starts to come back, punching Vader in the stomach to cause separation between the two, but Vader forces him back down to the mat and locks in a body scissors around the midsection of the champion. Vader's powerful legs do all the work as he squeezes the life out of the champion for several minutes; and it's about that time that he notices Savage. The eyes of Randy aren't visible behind his sunglasses, but Vader doesn't take very kindly to Savage being there. Dustin starts to elbow his way out of the maneuver, and that's when Savage climbs onto the ring apron. Rhodes sees him now though, and he gets things maneuvered to the point that Vader nearly runs into Savage. “The Monster” stops himself just short, but Dustin dropkicks him and causes a collision between the two KoW members, sending Randy down to the floor! Dustin rolls Vader up, and he gets a long 1.......... 2........... 3-NO! Vader kicks out at the last second! “The Monster” is seeing red now, but Dustin has gotten his second wind, and he fires off on Vader with such ferocity that he rips Vader's mask off and causes the big man to bleed from only his punches! With the champion's knuckles beginning to stain red, he continues the assault, sending Vader into the ropes and hitting him with a leaping clothesline. Vader doesn't go down, and on a second attempt Vader reverses, whipping Dustin to the ropes. But he telegraphs a back body drop, and Dustin drops to the mat and punches Vader across the bridge of the nose! Vader is starting to wear down now, as his moves and punches are starting to look more labored – just as Dustin is heating up again! He grabs Vader and manages to drill him to the mat with a bulldog, but again only a long two count!

Tommy Young finds himself out of position thanks to Woman, though; and Randy Savage scales the turnbuckles. He leaps off, but Dustin pulls Vader into the path of the double axe handle, before clotheslining Savage out of the ring! Vader staggers in a bloody haze, and Rhodes picks up “The Monster” and body slams him to the mat! He goes for another pin!

NO!

Vader's shoulder escapes the mat yet again, and Dustin is starting to show signs of losing his adrenaline rush. He decides to go to the turnbuckles himself, going to the middle rope and calling for Vader to stand. Dustin comes off the rope, and meets with a vicious lariat! Vader is right back in the driver's seat, and he wastes no time in pulling Rhodes to his feet and immediately POWER BOMB! Power bomb! Dustin is broken on the mat, and Vader falls on top!

WAIT! Just as he made the count, Tommy Young saw that Dustin's foot is on the bottom rope! This one isn't over yet! Vader is enraged, threatening Tommy, but he goes back to Dustin. He splashes him on the mat, but doesn't cover; instead pointing toward the turnbuckles. He drags the weak body of the champion to the corner and is setting up for his pump splash, the Vader Bomb. He wastes no time – but the champion is back up now, and he pounds on Vader's back! He forces Vader to turn around and sit on the top buckle, and “The Natural” scales the ropes himself. Tony fears that the ring might give way here, and Jesse tells the kid that it's not worth risking his life – but Dustin doesn't care, as he pulls Vader to the mat with a superplex! The crowd are cheering madly now, as Dustin and Vader take their time getting to their feet... and Rhodes puts himself behind Vader and hammers him down with another bulldog! This time he makes the cover, and he scores the 1!

It's over! Dustin Rhodes has defeated “The Monster” and retained the World Heavyweight--

LEAD PIPE TO THE FACE!!

Roddy Piper has hit the ring, and he just destroyed Dustin! Savage is in the ring instantly as well, and the heads of the KoW lay into Rhodes with fierce brutality. Tony calls for someone, anyone to come out here and stop this, but Jesse says that he's getting word from the back that Barry Windham and DDP are both laid out backstage, and the rest of the Kings are holding everyone else at bay! Vader comes to, and he shoves Piper and Savage away. The crowd start to buzz, wondering if “The Monster” is turning over a new leaf...

That is, until he splashes the prone body of Rhodes! Vader is upset that he lost this match, and now Dustin Rhodes is going to pay for it! Security and trainers all start trying to pour into the ring, but none reach it thanks to the trio who have taken the ring hostage. Dustin is held up for Savage to badmouth him, telling him to keep that title shined up for “The Macho Man” before he goes to the top and drives a flying elbow into the heart of the champion! They start calling for Vader to go up to the top as well, but the lights go out...

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/wcw-95/sting2.jpg

Sting! Sting is in the ring, and he points his baseball bat at the three KoW members! He stands over Dustin's wounded body, as Rhodes coughs up blood from the damage that he has suffered, and as Piper, Savage, and Vader leave the ring, Sting's emotionless gaze follows them up the ramp. Jesse asks aloud if Sting just came to WCW's aid, or what is going on behind those cold eyes? Tony says that maybe they'll be able to find out tomorrow on Nitro, but until then, we're out of time, folks; goodnight from the Clash of the Champions!

Winner in 20:40 and still World champion: Dustin Rhdoes

Notes: The match was penalized for a lack of psychology.
