Sting is shown arriving in the building! (B)

Alex Wright is being interviewed by Gene Okerlund, but Steve Austin barges in, interrupting to say that fans need to order Battlebowl to see two things; Austin will beat the living hell out of Terry Gordy, and play a video that everyone should see. (B-)

The Road Warriors arrive in the building, and bump into Harlem Heat. No words or punches are thrown, but a lot of menacing glares commence. (C-)

Randy Savage comes out to talk to Gordon, and says that he will delight in either defeating Steamboat to get into the Battlebowl or in throwing him out of it; it doesn’t matter to the madness. (B)

The match between The Shooters and Scott and Steve Armstrong ends in a big donnybrook when BG and Brad as well as Badd and Wright all run in to brawl with their enemies. Yes, in my haste I actually double booked Steve Armstrong. It doesn’t happen often. (D)

Tony Schiavone welcomes us to San Antonio, Texas, for the 1995 edition of Battlebowl! He’s at the announcer’s booth alongside Jesse “The Body” Ventura, and he says it will be an action packed evening! Ventura agrees, as Tony talks about the main event, as Hollywood Hogan will defend the World’s Heavyweight championship against big Ron Simmons! Jesse says that match will be huge, but he’s looking forward to see “Stunning” Steve Austin defend the US Heavyweight belt against Terry Gordy. Schiavone adds that there is also Ric Flair calling out his attacker from two weeks ago, and don’t forget the Lethal Lottery and Battlebowl to decide! Friends will face friends, enemies will team with enemies, and all for the chance to be the winner of the Battlebowl! Tony says that let’s not waste any more time talking, let’s head down to Gary Michael Cappetta! A confused fan in the background has a sign that reads “Spin the Wheel! Make the Deal!”

“Enforcer” Arn Anderson and Tracy Smothers vs. Steve Armstrong & Lord Steven Regal

Arn and Smothers are victorious at 8:08, Tracy and Steve do get into it for a little while which Tony uses to put over the whole “friends against friends” tagline. Regal becomes distracted by some antics from JPL at the top of the aisle, as Arn hits Armstrong with a DDT for the pin.

Scott Stud & “Das Wunderkind” Alex Wright vs. Black Tiger II & “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes

Despite Stud and Wright doing very well as a young team, the unpredictable element that is Black Tiger proves to be too much, as he pins Stud in 5:35.

Backstage, Sting is walking! He is heading to his dressing room, when a familiar face greets him…

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/JakeRoberts.jpg

Jake “The Snake” stops Sting in his tracks, standing in front of his path! Jake tells Sting it’s been a long time, which Sting agrees with. Jake says that he’s sorry for all the “petty issues” that the two used to have, the look on Sting’s face showing how little he believes it. Roberts says that he holds no hard feelings for the past, holding out his hand to “The Stinger”. Sting doesn’t accept it, saying that he’s had enough people shake his hand just to stab him in the back in the past few months. Jake smiles, saying that Sting has gotten wise. Sting simply says that as far as the past goes, he’s only worried about the future, and how quickly he’ll dump Roberts out of the Battlebowl if the opportunity presents itself! Jake tells him that he doesn’t have to fear an old timer like Jake, at least unless he’s been crossed… trust him on that. “The Snake” chuckles to himself, before walking away, leaving Sting to ponder what’s been said.

Notes: Sting did some poor improvising here.

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/battlebowlmatch.jpg

“Suave” Steve Keirn & Scott Steiner vs. Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat & Brad Armstrong

The fans are sad that they don’t get to see Scott and Rick against one another here, but delight in the matchup that follows anyways. “The Dragon” hits Keirn with a flying chop to get the three count in 7:25.

“Mean” Gene Okerlund is backstage, bringing in his guest, number one contender to the World Heavyweight title, Ron Simmons! Gene tells him that tonight is the night that’s been a long time in the making, and Simmons agrees, saying ever since he lost the World title, he’s wanted nothing more than getting it back around his waist. Ron adds that he’s been fighting the Kings of Wrestling for a few months now, and he’s had some wins and some losses, but when he takes back the WCW title, that’s gonna be the biggest win over them he could get! Okerlund wishes him best of luck tonight, saying that WCW is behind him as he goes for the gold! Gene then sends it to Tony and Jesse as we continue the Lethal Lottery!

Rating: B

Notes: Simmons struggled in this one, but Gene enjoyed improvising here.

Hakushi & Ichii Yazaki vs. Harlem Heat

The luck of the draw keeps Harlem Heat as a unit, and as such they use their immense tag experience to easily put away their foreign(?) foes in 7:16.

Terry Funk & Sgt. Craig “Pitbull” Pittman vs. Johnny B. Badd & “Gigolo” Jimmy Del Ray

Two very “odd couple” type of teams in this one, but Funk seems to want this one more, letting all his crazed offense unleash on Badd and Del Ray. Those two never get on the same page, and despite not being able to gel with a partner trying to tell him what to do, Terry hits a piledriver on Del Ray that puts he and the former drill sergeant ahead at 6:15.

We head backstage to “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes, “Enforcer” Arn Anderson, and “Nature Boy” Ric Flair. Flair congratulates Arn and Dustin for their wins tonight, saying he has no doubt that one of them should be accessorizing with fifteen grand by the end of the night! Arn talks about how so many things change once you get into a battle royal environment, but one thing doesn’t change; and that’s how there is “The Enforcer” in the running to win it all. Anderson says that he hates having to take Ric’s spot like he did, but Flair says he doesn’t mind, because he has something else in the works – calling out the son of a gun who assaulted him from behind two weeks ago! Rhodes adds his two cents, saying that he has Anderson’s back until the final few; but as for the ending, only one man is walking out with the newly minted ring, and if there’s any name synonymous with winning battle royals, it’s Rhodes! Arn and Dustin shake hands, saying may the best man win later.

“Beautiful” Bobby Eaton & BG Armstrong vs. “Bullet” Bob Armstrong & Rick Martel

Eaton and Martel can wrestle beautifully (no pun intended) but the real story here is father and son on opposing teams. Bob starts giving BG quite the old time whoopin’, but Colonel Parker rushes out and provides a distraction, allowing BG to roll his father up and get the three count at 6:31 – seemingly much to the dismay of Bobby.

Gordon Solie is backstage, and he’s joined by the WCW World Champion, Hollywood Hogan, and The Queen. Solie asks Hogan for some thoughts, saying that Ron Simmons sounds really fired up tonight, and inquires if Hollywood has a plan to neutralize the fire of the former All-American. Hollywood laughs that off, saying he doesn’t need to put out any fires, instead he’s gonna do what Hollywood does, and that’s come out on top. Hogan says that there’s no way the title leaves the Kings of Wrestling tonight, tomorrow, next Saturday, next month, or next year! And Ron Simmons won’t be the man who changes that, jack! The Queen smirks, cheering Hogan on as they leave Gordon. Solie says that we’ll see about that later tonight, if the hunger of Ron Simmons can overcome the confident champion, before sending it back out to Tony and Jesse!

Rating: B

Notes: Solie enjoyed getting to improvise here.

Terry Taylor & “Macho Man” Randy Savage vs. “Doctor of Desire” Tom Prichard & Marcus Bagwell

Taylor and Savage actually work together as a good team, as the two veterans deliver quite the beating to their opponents here. Taylor nabs the win at 5:47 over Prichard with his Fivearm.

“Wildfire” Tommy Rich & JPL vs. “Total Package” Lex Luger & Waylon Mercy

Perhaps keeping an eye out for Regal to get revenge, JPL’s head doesn’t seem in this one, as he just barely is in the ring. However this only leaves the aging Rich, and he gets beaten around before Luger hits him with a running steel-plated forearm at 6:54 for the pin.

“Mean” Gene is standing by alongside US championship contender Terry Gordy and manager Colonel Parker, also joining them is WCW Commissioner Nick Bockwinkel! Gene asks what Nick is doing alongside them, and Nick says calmly that he has been personally overseeing some of Terry’s training heading into his match tonight against “Stunning” Steve. Parker smiles broadly, as Nick says that Gordy tore through his former friends Hayes and Garvin just to prove a point, and to show the Colonel that he was ready to lead the Stud Stable instead of being a follower to a big mouth. He passed that test, and now he’s Nick’s ace-in-the-hole to take down Austin, so that he can do the same to “that foulmouthed redneck who’s walking around with a title that he’d sell for a six-pack in a heartbeat” as he what did to his buddy Brian – get rid of them. Nick says that he will take great pride in filing the paperwork that eradicates the neanderthals out there, and then he and the Kings of Wrestling will turn their full attention to the big fish again. Gordy says that he made his name in Texas, and tonight he’s gonna go out there and show them that Austin has ruined the good name of Texans everywhere when he went “all hollywood”. As they leave, Gene says that he can’t believe the nerve of people around here anymore, before sending it back out for more action!

Sting & Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. California Kip & “Dog-Faced Gremlin” Rick Steiner

The sheer star power going on elevates the match greatly, and then three of the four men’s psychology comes into play for a good match on top of that. A sign in the crowd urges Sting “Don’t Trust Jake!” and while he doesn’t, the two at least work together better than their opponents do; despite their many, many years of tag team experience, Rick and a member of the KoW just doesn’t make for a good combination. Steiner ends up punching his partner out after Kip runs his mouth, and a DDT to the “prince of wrestling” puts Jake and Sting ahead at 7:02.

The match is over, but Roberts has not left ringside. He instead calls Sting over to the guardrail, the cameras catching him saying that he still wants that handshake from earlier. Sting tentatively reaches out… and grasps it! A fast-writing fan holds up a sign saying “The Franchise Player and The Snake Charmer”. BUT NO! Jake pulls Sting into a DDT on the concrete floor! The fans boo as Jake taunts them, crouching over Sting and saying that apparently, he hasn’t gotten as wise as he thought!

That’s the first thing that Eric Bischoff asks when we go to he, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, and Gordon Solie at the secondary announcer stand, and Bobby says that evidence supports one thing for sure: Sting is going into the Battlebowl hurt, and he doesn’t think he’ll be able to overcome that. Solie denounces Jake and Luger for the attack, while Bobby says that no normal man takes a DDT on the floor like that and makes it back later. Eric responds with “Well, Weasel, we know that Sting is no normal man” before throwing it backstage to Gene Okerlund!

“Mean” Gene talks about the WCW Hotline briefly, saying that if you call in now, you’ll get an exclusive about who is backstage at Battlebowl! He then brings in his guest, United States Heavyweight champion “Stunning” Steve Austin. Austin says that he can’t wait to get out there and deliver the whoopin’ of the new year to Terry Gordy, and show Nicky Bockwinkel that it doesn’t matter who he throws at him, it won’t make a difference because he isn’t dropping this belt until he’s good and ready to shove it up his ass! As Gene apologizes for the language, Austin finally sheds some light on something. He says that at SuperBrawl, Brian came to him and shoved something to his chest; it was a video tape, which he has set up to roll.

It shows grainy footage from one of Pillman’s “X-X-X Files” timestamped as being from back in November! On it, Nick Bockwinkel is meeting secretly with Colonel Parker. Nick is telling Parker that he doesn’t want Austin holding the belt anymore so he won’t be a problem, and Parker saying he has a few guys coming in who will be happy to relieve him of it. Nick says that he’s making Parker a deal, the Stable keep the US title if they can get it from Austin, which is the same deal he told to “that loser Johnny”!

The two are shown shaking hands as the footage ends, and Austin talks about how he’s done a lot of shady things in his WCW career, but he never used some backdoor meeting to try to rip someone’s livelihood out from under them! He says that Nick and the KoW and the Stable can play all the games they want with people, but it’s gonna be game over for them, because “Stunning” Steve Austin is no more; Steve Austin as a man is through playing around, through playing second fiddle to everyone because he’s not on their level, through being the patsy who gets shoved aside. Steve Austin is Texas born and Texas bred, and even the ass whippin’s are bigger when they come from his boots! Bottom line is, he’s gonna go out there and take Gordy apart, and when he’s done putting Parker’s lapdogs in the ground with the Colonel laid right beside them, then he’s coming for the Kings of Wrestling!

Rating: B

Notes: Austin enjoyed improvising here, while Gene was masterful at it, his facial expressions doing most of his talking.

“Guardian Angel” Bubba Rogers & “The Monster” Vader vs. The Patriot & “Pretty” Paul Roma

In the final match of the Lethal Lottery, Paul Roma gets cheered on by one lone fan in the audience with a “ROMA 3:16” sign, but the entire 7:18 of this match basically comes down to the big men just toying with their foes until they’ve finished with them. Rogers hits Patriot with a Bubba Slam for the pinfall.

Gary Michael Cappetta welcomes the World Tag Team Champions, Hawk and Animal, along with manager “The American Outlaw” Dusty Rhodes, down to the ring. The Road Warriors mostly stand there with their titles, as the three are laughing about the luck of the draw not being kind to the Steiner Brothers. They say that Rick had a perfectly good partner, had he not blown it; but Scott was doomed to start, which is just what they’ll be if they keep up this battle with the champions. Hawk names off a list of the Warriors’ victims over the years – the Rock ‘n Roll Express, the Midnight Express, the Freebirds, the Horsemen, the Nasty Boys, even Dusty himself – and the Steiners think they’re something special? Animal says that teams like Rick and Scott, and Harlem Heat, and all the rest, should feel privileged just to be in the same promotion as the Road Warriors. Dusty says that nobody will be left standing when they try to topple the KoW’s biggest, baddest guard dogs, and that’s gonna be the way it is for a long time coming, jack!

Rating: C-

Notes: Dusty can be hit and miss with his improvising, and this was a miss night. Gary enjoyed going unscripted though.

WCW United States Tag Team Championships

The Wonderful Destruction Crew w/Dusty Rhodes vs. The Rock ‘n Roll Express

Referee: Tommy Young

These four men know tag team wrestling, and all of their experience plays into this match. I hope that when I say “this is a formula RnR match” you know what I mean, because it seems to be exactly what I say for every Morton and Gibson match. But when two people know how to work their style as well as they do, and have done it so long, it’s hard to imagine anything else to put down here. If you don’t know what I mean when I say that, then you probably should do a little research, because it’s the prevalent style of tag teams. Ricky Morton plays Ricky Morton for the duration of the match, taking all kinds of punishment from both Orndorff and Meng, but the champions can never put him down. Ricky even kicks out after the Boogie Woogie Elbow, to Paul’s surprise. Meng gets as close as either of them do to defeating him, but out of nowhere Ricky ducks a savate kick and hits a big dropkick to turn the tide! Morton crawls toward Robert, but Gibson gets pulled away by Dusty Rhodes before they can make the tag! Dustin Rhodes rushes the ring and chases his father away! Unfortunately, too much damage has been done, and Orndorff brawls on the outside with Gibson as Morton gets locked into the Tongan Deathgrip. His options few and his energy spent, Morton can only fall to the mat, his shoulders counted down for the three.

“The Nature Boy” hits the ring, saying that he’s been here all night, and he’s seen a lot of things, but one thing he has yet to see is someone stand up, be a man, and admit to making the biggest mistake of their life! And that’s having crossed Ric Flair! “The Nature Boy”! Fourteen times, count ‘em, heavyweight champion of the world! Greatest to step in the ring this side of Buddy! Flair says that since nobody has taken the initiative, then he’s out here in the ring to call them out, to show their face RIGHT NOW!

But nobody would have ever guessed who comes over the barricade and enters the ring!

http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/ScottHall.jpg

Tony says it can’t be! Jesse asks he doesn’t work here, does he? But plain as day, there he is! He walks down to the ring, as commentary, the fans, and Flair himself doesn’t seem to know what to think! He grabs a microphone and steps into the ring, looking Flair in the face and offering a simple…… “Hey yo.” He continues to say that everyone knows who he is and where he’s been, but nobody knows a damn thing right now. He says Scott Hall is here now, in Dubaya-See-Dubaya, not in the Kings of Wrestling, not in Dub-See-Dub, but he’s here as the hired gun – he doesn’t care who ends up winning the war, as long as he makes all kinds of green in the process! Hall says that yeah, he beat Ric Flair down two weeks ago, and he doesn’t care who knows that it was Hogan and Piper who paid him to do it, and paid him well. Hall says that he’s got no morals, no allegiance, and no issues being the problem solver! Hall tells Flair that if he knows what’s good for him, “old man better back down, cause you don’t want any of this!” With that, Hall goes out of the ring and out of the arena, leaving through the crowd, as Flair watches on after him. Tony doesn’t know what to say, and Ventura says that it looks like the depths the KoW will go to keep people from Hollywood Hogan knows even fewer bounds, paying off a hired gun to come and take out any resistance.

Rating: B+

Notes: Flair struggled in this one, but Hall improvised well, playing his new role to a T. His gimmick is Outside Threat (Cocky) which rated a 97.

“Introducing first, the challenger! Hailing from Chattanooga, Tennessee, standing six-foot-six and weighing in at two hundred and ninety-eight pounds! The Stud Stable presents; being accompanied to the ring by Colonel Robert Parker, TERRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! GORRRRRRDYYYYYY!”

Gordy and Parker make their way down the aisle, the Texas fans booing them profusely. Terry riles them up further by putting up an “Italian salute” toward them, ripping away a sign that says “Gordy’s going down and that’s the bottom line!” Ventura says that as much as Terry has been talking about them lately, apparently it hasn’t warmed them up to him after all his time in Dallas against their homeland heroes the Von Erichs.

“Ladies and gentlemen, World Championship Wrestling’s United States Heavyweight champion! Hailing from VICTORIA, TEXAS!!! Steeeeeeeeeeeeeeve AUUUUUUUUUSTIIIIIIIIIN!”

The champion comes out with something that has probably never happened for him – the hometown crowd goes crazy for him! Austin raises his arms in the air, walking down to the ring with the title strapped around his waist. He stops to smile and nod at a sign that says “The King fears The Stunning One”. As he gets into the ring, he removes it and hands it to referee Mark Curtis, who holds it aloft as the bell sounds!

WCW United States Heavyweight Championship

Steve Austin vs. Terry Gordy w/Colonel Robert Parker

Referee: Mark Curtis

The fans are pumped for this one, possibly because the short feud has thus far had them in the crossfire of it. Gordy’s claims of Austin not being a real Texan anymore, as well as the big face turn from Austin, has everyone clamoring to see how this match will play out. As it turns out, it becomes the most hotly contested match of the night, with both men throwing everything they’ve got at one another. Jesse talks about how he’s a fan of Austin because he can brawl just as well as your Gordys or Hogans or Savages, but can wrestle on the mat like your Flairs and Andersons, making him the best of both worlds. Most of the time, anytime Parker tries to interject himself, Austin has his former manager well-scouted and gives him a middle finger salute in return. At a certain point of the match, Gordy uses his power game to gain the advantage, and he holds the champion down with big strikes and submission holds such as bearhugs and neck vices. Austin never quits though, and he comes back by ducking a clothesline and coming back with a big Thesz press, before slamming punches down on Terry’s face! Austin gets up and hits the ropes, coming off with a sharp elbow to the forehead! He hits the ropes again, and a kneedrop! Gordy kicks out of a cover though, showing he still has plenty of life left. Steve starts to lock the challenger into That’s a Wrap, but Gordy shoves him off, sending Austin through the ropes to the floor. Terry follows him out, and the men brawl around the ring. Gordy gets the upper hand by smashing Austin’s head against the barricade, but the champion comes back by sending Terry headfirst into the ringpost! Things get close to the fans, and we see one with a sign saying “We Want Pillman!” Colonel Parker tries to get in between the champion and his prey once, but it leads to them both being given the finger before Austin punches Parker down! Gordy rushes for a Lariat, but Austin ducks, before kicking Gordy – and the Stunner follows! Austin rolls back into the ring; just as Mark Curtis counts ten! Tony talks about the bodies left lying around the ring looking like a horror movie, but Austin has won the match and retained his championship – albeit via countout.

Tony and Jesse are joined at the announcer’s booth briefly by “Mean” Gene Okerlund, and the three talk about the incredible match we just witnessed. Jesse says that as big a Steve Austin fan as he’s always been and still is, Terry Gordy took him to the limit and deserves another shot down the road. Tony and Gene talk about the upcoming Battlebowl, with both men saying that they feel Sting will be the man coming out as the winner. Jesse is against them, saying that the attack on Sting from Jake Roberts will have taken its toll on him, so Ventura is backing Vader to be the winner.

Battlebowl

"Enforcer" Arn Anderson vs. BG Armstrong vs. Black Tiger II vs. “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton vs. Booker T vs. Brad Armstrong vs. “Guardian Angel” Bubba Rogers vs. “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts vs. “Total Package” Lex Luger vs. “Macho Man” Randy Savage vs. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat vs. Sgt. Craig “Pitbull” Pittman vs. Stevie Ray vs. Sting vs. Terry Funk vs. Terry Taylor vs. Tracy Smothers vs. “The Monster” Vader vs. Waylon Mercy

Referee: Tommy Young

There is some doubt at the start that Sting will make it to the ring, in fact he doesn’t come out along with the other nineteen men at the start of the match. Jake Roberts smiles when Sting is announced but doesn’t show up. The fans clamor as they look on, and signs are seen in the crowd talking about this match such as “The Battlebowl Rules!” Just before the bell can sound, Randy Savage attacks, striking Ricky Steamboat, causing all the other men to begin the fight! As Tommy Young and other officials try to stop things from getting out of hand, up to the top rope – STING! He leaps off the top, crashing down upon a group consisting of Brad, Eaton, Pittman, Dustin, and Jake! Sting begins punching Roberts in the face on the mat, as the bell sounds!

It doesn’t take long for gameplans to be revealed. Waylon and the Armstrong Brothers play this match very cool, sitting back and letting the fight come to the Stud Stable representatives in the corner as various men come at them. Vader is a house of fire though, immediately tossing Sgt. Pittman before settling into a fistfight with rival Terry Funk! Booker T and Stevie Ray work together, keeping one another in the match after Booker nearly gets thrown out by Rogers, and that is the same strategy employed by Anderson and Rhodes as well. Terry Taylor does what he can to keep a low profile, as Bobby makes sure to just keep his feet on the ground. Smothers becomes a victim of the Stud Stable, which isn’t a surprise as tag partner Steve Armstrong is on their major hit list. Tracy gets triple teamed and thrown aside when they decide they’re done with him. Roberts and Sting fight out under the bottom rope, nearly catching Taylor as he gets sent over the top. “The Total Package” lifts Brad and throws him out shortly thereafter. No sooner does Tony talk about the battle of big men as Vader, Bubba Rogers, and Waylon Mercy are all in there, then Rogers gets sent out by Vader! Jesse says that obviously the tensions the two of them had last year haven’t been warmed by time! Terry Funk steps up to Mercy though, and he puts a hurting on the big man, bringing him out of the corner that was his safe haven. Arn and Rhodes are in a fight with Harlem Heat, and the fans are just eating up all the mayhem in the ring!

The major wildcard of the match seems to be Black Tiger, who has stayed in the center of the ring most of the time, hitting and running from people. Tiger runs afoul of BG Armstrong, who hits a few jabs in a row on the masked man, but BG gets backdropped out before the haymaker that was to come! Savage and Steamboat are in the midst of a down-and-dirty fight in one corner of the ring, keeping their focus almost solely on one another this whole time. Sting has come back into the ring, having smashed Roberts into the guardrail on the outside, and the face-painted fan favorite goes after rival Lex Luger! Sting takes Luger by surprise and almost eliminates him, but Lex is able to use his impressive upper body strength to hold on. Booker T finds himself on his own after Stevie Ray gets clotheslined over the top rope by Waylon Mercy, and those two go at it then. Vader starts being attacked by a few different men – Eaton, Funk, Tiger, and Rhodes – but he’s able to throw all of them aside, eliminating Bobby along the way. An odd pairing of Anderson and Booker do what they can to toss out Mercy, but Waylon’s size helps him to stay in the ring.

Luger interjects himself into the fight between Savage and Steamboat, helping Randy in his attempt to throw “The Dragon” over the turnbuckle. Dustin comes over and breaks it up, helping his old friend back into the ring and taking Savage off his hands for the first time in the match. The crazy “Macho Man” immediately does an eye rake and starts trying to throw Dustin out. On the other side of the ring, cameras don’t even catch Booker T being eliminated, as he was scooped out by Vader. Anderson and Black Tiger have a go at one another, and now that the ring is clearing out, Tiger is able to perform a few more high-risk maneuvers. It nearly costs him against the veteran, as Arn is able to trip him on the top rope and nearly throw him out, but the Tiger is a crafty one and holds on. Terry Funk fight with Jake Roberts, and Jake is finally the cause of the Funker’s expulsion from the ring as he pulls the ropes down when Funk tried to clothesline him out. Jake and Lex take turns on Sting then, as Tony and Jesse talk about the possibilities if Sting is able to win this, or at least make it to the final three and get into the title match at Spring Stampede. Unexpected help comes from the hands of Dustin Rhodes, as he comes up behind Luger and gets him shoved over the top! “The Package” is livid on the outside!

Waylon Mercy finally comes up face-to-face with the other big man in the ring, Vader! The two have a staredown in center ring, before they start throwing big fists and forearms! Waylon starts to have an effect, stringing a few punches together, before sending Vader into the ropes. But Vader ducks a clothesline, and hits a huge body check that puts Mercy on the mat! Vader yells “WHO’S THE MAN?!?” as he effortlessly lifts Waylon to his feet and hits him with a short arm clothesline! Vader hangs onto the arm, and he pulls Waylon up, before sending him over the top rope! Vader growls in celebration of his feat, Ventura saying that it doesn’t matter who comes to WCW, as of now, “The Monster” is still the top dog! Tony says that we are down to the final eight now, three of these men will go on to face Hollywood Hogan or Ron Simmons at Spring Stampede but only one of them will be the victor! Jake Roberts and Sting go at one another again, as Arn and Rhodes go after Vader together. Black Tiger stands back for a moment to watch Savage and Steamboat, but he joins in against Vader then. Vader shrugs all three men off, before going after Tiger, punching him down into the corner. “The Enforcer” looks to go back to him, but he gets pulled aside and clotheslined out – by Dustin! Anderson looks back into the ring with an angry look on his face, but when Dustin looks to him and apologizes, Arn cools down, taking a few deep breaths, before shaking his hand and walking to the back.

“Macho Man” sends Ricky Steamboat into the ropes, and he follows him in with a clothesline, sending him over the top! Savage starts to celebrate, feeling he’s finally gotten a win over his longtime enemy. He turns around, but wait – “The Dragon” held on, and he pulls himself back up, “skinning the cat” to catch Savage around the head with a headscissors! Savage screams no, but his momentum says yes, and Steamboat pulls him out over the top, before slipping back into the ring! Savage is irate, kicking the ringsteps and trying to get back into the ring, but officials have to hold him back. Vader and Sting, more longtime enemies, find themselves in a battle in one corner, as Rhodes and Jake Roberts fight in another. Black Tiger tries to force himself in, but both men move away from the flying clothesline attempt, and when Tiger rolls quickly back to his feet, “The Snake” is right there to put him down with a DDT! But faster than Jesse can quip that “The Snake just bit the Tiger” Jake is hit with a big clothesline by Sting that sends him out of the match! Jake seems upset, or at least more upset than normal. Tony says that he is “as cold as his namesake” before Vader does the honors of tossing out the defeated Black Tiger.

Tony and Jesse get really excited now as we are down to the final four of Sting, Vader, Ricky Steamboat, and Dustin Rhodes – he reiterates the stipulations, and says that this could be Sting’s chance at not waiting until 1996 for a World title match! Sting seems even more motivated than before, as he takes on all comers to him, even friends Dustin and Ricky. Sting doesn’t wait on anyone to move for him, actively taking the fight to all three of the others. Tony says that this is a Sting who definitely wants one more elimination to secure his spot next month. Vader hits a clubbing forearm to take Sting down a peg, but it’s only one, as “The Stinger” is quickly back up and hitting punches and chops on him again. Dustin and Steamboat get in on the action, the former tag team champions attacking Vader as well. Before long, all three are punching Vader, and while “The Monster” has yet to fall, he’s looking shaky! Just as he’s ready to drop to the mat, they send him toward the ropes, and Vader looks like he’s going to go out! But Vader is able to regain himself, bracing himself with the ropes. He is able to shove Dustin off, and kicks Steamboat aside, but he can’t shake Sting! Sting starts using his strength and momentum to force Vader over, making him have to put a hand down on the apron! Tony says that this should be it – but Sting gets hit with a steel chair from the outside!

It was Jake Roberts! Jake never went to the back after he was eliminated, and he struck Sting, and this lets Vader not only push himself back into the ring – but also hip tosses Sting over the top and down to the floor!

Tony is completely deflated, so Jesse announces that these three men now, Dustin Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat, and Vader will be moving on to Spring Stampede! Sting is on the outside coming back to his senses, and when he does, he pounds his fist on the mat, and vows revenge, saying he’s “gonna get that son of a bitch!” The three men stand at different turnbuckles to get their bearings back, looking one another over for weaknesses. To everyone’s surprise, Dustin goes after “The Dragon”, letting Vader collect himself again. Tony wonders if Rhodes doesn’t think he can handle Vader easier than he can Steamboat. But when Vader comes upon the two, he isn’t prejudiced to anyone, and he attacks each with glee. “The Monster” has been in full control of this match, and he looks poised to win it all as he tries to throw Steamboat out. Dustin saves him though, pulling Steamboat back in, and he charges with a clothesline! It doesn’t take Vader out, but it does take him by surprise, and Rhodes yells to Steamboat; they go at Vader and hit him with a double dropkick that puts him against the ropes! Vader facepalms Dustin when the two go at him, but a knife-edge chop from Steamboat has him reeling, as Vader teeters against the ropes. A big double clothesline attempt follows, but Vader ducks, back body dropping Rhodes over the top – but he lands on the apron! Vader and Steamboat go toe-to-toe, as “The Dragon” gets sent into the ropes on the other side. Vader hits him with a brutal belly to belly suplex, before turning back to Rhodes. Dustin is on the outside of the ropes, dangerous territory, as he trades punches with Vader! Vader hits “The Natural” with a fierce forearm to the jaw, nearly making him fall off, but Dustin holds onto the ropes with one hand. Vader backs up, and he runs forward; but he loses his track when Steamboat grabs him from behind and speeds up his momentum, and Dustin ducks, pulling the rope down – Vader goes out to the floor!

Dustin rolls back into the ring, and he comes face to face with his longtime friend and partner! A sign in the crowd says “There can be only one” and Tony repeats the sentiment. The two shake hands, saying that they will let the best man win, before throwing fists and chops at one another! Steamboat hits a deep armdrag that sends Rhodes halfway across the ring, but Dustin comes back with a big clothesline that takes Steamboat to the mat. Dustin hits the ropes, charging from behind “The Dragon” as he stands up, but Ricky senses him coming, ducking the bulldog attempt and hitting Dustin with a double handed chop when he runs back at him! The two seem very evenly matched, but there are some tricks that Dustin knows now that Ricky didn’t teach him; Rhodes blocks a hip toss and instead attacks the knee of Steamboat! Jesse says that is straight out of Ric Flair’s schooling, as Dustin starts to callously assault the left knee of his friend! The fans start to boo this display, but Tony says that it is a smart move; if Steamboat can’t hold himself up, he can’t get the leverage to throw Rhodes out of the ring. Dustin keeps at it, and eventually hits a big bulldog headlock that looks like it knocks Steamboat out! Dustin motions with his arms that it’s done. He lifts “The Dragon” to his feet, and looking at him barely holding himself upright, Ricky’s eyes glazed over, Rhodes takes a moment to say “I’m sorry” before picking him up and throwing him over his shoulder. “The Natural” walks toward the ropes, and he gets Steamboat halfway out.

But Ricky is still alive – he reverses his momentum, landing back on his feet, before hitting a dropkick to his young, very off-balance friend, causing Dustin to teeter briefly on the top rope, before Steamboat grabs his leg and throws him over! The crowd cheer loudly as “The Dragon” drops to his knees in the center of the ring; because he’s just won the 1995 Battlebowl!

WCW World Heavyweight Championship

Hollywood Hogan w/The Queen vs. Ron Simmons

Referee: Tommy Young

Tony and Jesse are excited for this one, as they say Ron is the hungriest he’s been in years, and this shot could be his huge return to the main spotlight for him if he wins. Tony talks about how Ron was the World champion back in 1992, and just like that time, not many people believe that Ron can win the big one this time. A fan excitedly holds up a sign reading “Big Bad Ron faces the King!” Simmons takes it right to Hogan, proving that he is no slouch and putting Hollywood on the defense by shoving him aside easily on a test of strength! Ventura talks about how Hogan is used to almost always being the stronger man, but apparently he is not this time. Ron indeed proves that he’s younger, stronger, and faster than the champion, and all those things together put Hogan down on the mat on more than one occasion in the early going of this match!

There is one thing that Hogan knows better than Simmons though, and that is big match experience. Hollywood weathers the early storm, and comes back by luring his challenger around the outside of the ring, before slipping back under the ropes, then catching Simmons with a hard kick to the ribs when he chased him back inside. Hogan slows things down, using his winded opponent’s own body mass against him by putting a knee in his back to apply a surfboard stretch. A sign in the front row is cause for a fan to have a kiss blown toward him from The Queen, as it reads “Hail to the Kings!” Hollywood hits a few elbows to the top of Ron’s head when he releases the hold, and he sends the former All-American into the ropes before hitting a big clothesline! Ron still kicks out at two, and the champion lifts him for a vertical suplex. Simmons again kicks out at a strong two, at which point Hogan starts blatantly choking him! Tommy Young is right there to apply the five count, which Hogan breaks at four before driving gloved punches into the forehead of his opponent. The Queen applauds on the outside, cheering her man on, as Schiavone questions again what her role is with Hollywood Hogan. Hollywood locks Ron into the surfboard again, but this time the crowd starts coming to life for him, beginning to clap and chant “Ron! Ron! Ron!” It takes all the power that Simmons can seemingly muster, but he begins pulling his arms back in front of himself! He works his way up to his feet, before shoving backwards and putting the champion into the turnbuckles! Hollywood drops his grip on Ron’s wrists, and Simmons reaches back to hit a hard elbow to the jaw! Hogan slumps in the corner, and Simmons climbs up in front of him, raining punches down! The crowd counts along with each one, ten in total! Ron gets down, and Hogan falls flat to the mat!

Simmons is now in full control, and he keeps it going after Hogan kicks out at two from a pinfall. Ron starts firing on all cylinders again, speeding the match up by hitting the ropes and leaping up for a big shoulderblock! Hollywood goes down hard! Ron hits the ropes again and drills Hogan with another big shoulderblock! Simmons goes to the well again, but Hogan ducks the clothesline. Simmons halts his momentum though, turning around just as Hollywood does, kicking the champion in the stomach and lifting him up – PILEDRIVER! Ron hit a huge piledriver, and the champ is down! Simmons crawls over and throws his arm across his chest! 1!

2!

3!-NO!

So close, but Hollywood JUST got his shoulder up in time! The Queen looks pale on the outside, but Tommy Young was in perfect position to see the shoulder get up. Simmons now punches Hogan a few times on the mat, before climbing up onto the second turnbuckle. He waits there, catching his breath as Hollywood slowly climbs to his feet. When Hogan gets up, Ron takes flight – clothesline! Hogan goes down to the mat again, and Simmons goes over, this time hooking the leg! Tommy Young has to leap over both men in order to get into position, and he counts! 1!

2!

KICKOUT!

The champion kicks out again, and you can almost see Simmons getting more and more upset as the match continues! Ron is up again, and he gets down into a three point stance. He lets Hogan get back to his feet, which Ventura says is a mistake, that he should be staying on him instead of giving Hogan all these chances to get back to his feet. Ron charges, but this time Hogan moves, and he hooks him in a schoolboy rollup – putting his feet up on the ropes for leverage! Tommy Young doesn’t see it! 1!

2!

3-NO! NO, Ron’s leg strength doesn’t let Hogan steal this one, as he still manages to kick out! Both men seem to be grasping for straws now, and both go for their power games as they run the ropes and clothesline one another! Tommy Young begins the count, as fans count along with him.

1!

2!

3!

4!

5!

6! Hogan begins to stir!

7! Simmons starts moving around, holding his head.

8!

9! Hogan is up to his feet!

10-NO! Ron gets to his feet as the last split second, and Hogan charges – but POWERSLAM! Ron hits a huge powerslam that rattles both the champion and the ring! He stays on top!

1!

2!!

3!!!

NO! Tommy Young tells Ron he was wrong as he sees Hogan’s foot was on the ropes! Simmons is pissed off now, and he hauls Hollywood to his feet. Ron sends Hogan into the ropes, but Hogan elbows his way out of the spinebuster, catching Ron in the temple. Hollywood grabs Simmons as he shakes it off, sending him into the ropes, right into the big boot! Simmons goes down, and Hogan hits the ropes next to him and comes off with the big legdrop! The champion swivels into the cover, hooking Ron’s leg as Tommy Young counts!

1!

2!!

3!!!

The Queen squeals on the outside as she rushes over and grabs the defaced World Heavyweight championship away from Gary Michael Cappetta, getting into the ring and presenting it to Hollywood Hogan. Gary makes the announcement as Tommy Young holds Hogan’s arm aloft, as Tony and Jesse say that Ron definitely put his all into this one, but it just wasn’t enough on this night. But next month, Hogan defends against three different men – will he still survive against those odds?

So congratulations to pakonruff for barely edging out the competition! I'll have your prize in the (pm) mail very soon!

Sorry to anybody who didn't get a chance this time because I didn't put up a warning, but I just wanted to get this one up and done. The short write-ups for the Lethal Lottery matches were by design, not because I was feeling rushed; I just hope the battle royal and world title match writeups were worth the wait! I'll try to have the Hotline done sometime this week, but with people over for holidays and such, I don't know when or if I'll have much time to TEW. Happy holiday to everyone!

BattleBowl was well worth the wait! I rather liked the short writeups for the undercard, having those oddball teams for the Lethal Lottery was cool enough, the writeups didn't need to be extravagant.

Great song choice for Austin haha.

The later writeups were great too, had me thinking Sting all the way in spite of Jake, then when he got tossed I thought of how awesome Vader vs. Hogan would be, with the fans getting behind Vader. I even thought Dustin had a shot at beating Steamboat, but Ricky was the right choice.

Even though I gave Simmons no shot, you had me a couple of times thinking he was gonna win, which made it worth it to put that match after the BattleBowl. I liked it, it was a great PPV overall.

<p>Okay, I want opinions. The newest Saturday Night has shown me results that I'm not sure are realistic enough to continue. In case anybody noticed, I changed the match times to be as low as they can be, so that I can book things by segment rather than having to worry about getting dinged for time; I mostly did this for Battlebowl (which had a ton of matches that couldn't be long for time purposes, but fans likely wouldn't have cared much).</p><p> </p><p>

But now, I'm getting B's and B-'s for 5 and 6 minute matches, and one notable example that I'm not disclosing until the show is up. I have no problem from a grades standpoint on that, because this show rated amazingly. However.... from a realistic standpoint, I'm having difficulties with it. So I'm turning to my readers to let me know if I should just keep it how it is so that I can book matches to my liking (and having to follow the maximum for everyone of course, like midcarders only being able to be on-screen for like 20 mins, etc) or should I make them longer so that I have to deal with the time penalty sometimes?</p><p> </p><p>

I just don't know which way to go on it, so any thoughts would be pretty helpful.</p>

I keep it the way you like it. Because the matches were shorter in this time period anyways. Especially for tv. Now ppv make them little longer I would. The other day I was watching an old nwa world championship wrestling show from 1985, and the two hour show had 12 matches on it and about that many promos. So the matches for tv was always shorter. Ten or 15 minutes for the main event. Alas, they had some good to great matches that were 10 minutes or less on tv.

Tony hypes up the show tonight, the three talking about the HUGE main event tonight, as two of the biggest names of the Kings of Wrestling in Hogan and Savage will have to face off with two of the biggest names in WCW, Ric Flair and Sting! Bobby says that he has faith in his friend and the Stinger, but Jesse says that just to play devil’s advocate, he thinks the KoW will have something up their sleeves. They also talk about all the people we will be hearing from tonight, like Lex Luger, the Stud Stable, commissioner Nick Bockwinkel, and Jesse promotes his own special sit-down interview with Cactus Jack. As a sign can be seen behind him asking “Da Bad Guy Is Here, where’s Big Kev” as well as a “Hey Yo”, Tony says that with all this great program scheduled for the night, let’s not waste any more time talking about it, and get right down to Gary Michael Cappetta for our opening contest!</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><em>Rating: C+</em></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/DeanMalenko.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/LanceStorm.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/WCWs/LarryZbyszko.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/vs.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/ArnAnderson.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/DustinRhodes.jpg</span><p> <strong>The Shooters w/Larry Zbyszko vs. “The Enforcer” Arn Anderson & “The Natural” Dustin Rhodes</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><strong><span style="font-size:8px;">Referee: Randy Anderson</span></strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> A very good match that shows just why Larry Zbyszko chose Malenko and Storm as his champions. They keep up with their opponents as though they’d been wrestling in big matches like this all of their lives, though Jesse pointing out that Malenko is only a rookie to WCW is an understatement. Tony wonders if there are any hard feelings between Arn and Dustin in this one after Rhodes eliminating Anderson at Battlebowl, but if there are, you’d never be able to tell by how well they work together here. Anderson and Malenko put on a technical clinic any point they’re in the ring together, but Storm proves himself to be good at both the technical aspect as well as hitting Arn and Dustin with some big moves that get him quite a few close near falls. Zbyszko heckles the favorites from the outside, but backs down quickly as soon as either of them come anywhere close. The finish comes with Dustin dodging a big leg lariat from Lance, hitting the ropes and nailing a big running bulldog for the pin and the three count, as “The Enforcer” steps in to make sure that Malenko didn’t break up the pin. Tony talks about how Dustin looks ready for Spring Stampede and the big Four Corners match.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><em>Winners in 11:47: Dustin Rhodes & Arn Anderson</em></p><p><em> Rating: B</em></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/Sting2.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/WCWs/GeneOkerlund.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p> “Mean” Gene Okerlund comes out to the aisle, and he has a big guest for us all: the man called Sting! Sting comes out wearing his new WCW official t-shirt, which is black with a purple scorpion that wraps around the right side, and he howls to his fans before getting down to business. Gene asks Sting for his thoughts regarding the disappointment at Battlebowl, and Sting says that yeah, he was disappointed – but as much as in the end, it was his own shoulders to lay the blame on, he’s still gonna call out one guy, and that’s Jake Roberts! Sting says that he’s gotten all the proper papers done, and next Friday when WCW goes against the world again, “The Stinger” will be there to face off with “The Snake”! Sting says that after he’s taken Jake out, then he’s turning his attention to his old pal Lexy Luger, and then it’s back to business – taking out the Kings of Wrestling! Gene asks Sting about tonight, and he says he doesn’t trust Ric Flair as far as he can throw him on a regular basis, but tonight against the Mega-DUDS, WCW will prevail again! Another howl to the fans, and Gene briefly pitches the WCW Hotline as we go to the next segment.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><em>Rating: C+</em></p><p><em> Notes: Sting improvised very poorly here, and even Gene didn’t do well at all. Scott was rather game as a challenger, but the title wasn’t much in doubt. With Jimmy Hart yelling advice over his trusty megaphone from ringside and support from a sign in the crowd that says “Ca-li-fornia Ki-i-i-i-i-pp-in’”, the blue chipper of the Kings of Wrestling showed a lot of the reason why he was hand-picked by Hollywood Hogan to be his protégé, as he picked his veteran opponent apart by working over his back, hitting him with a delayed vertical suplex and even a superplex, en route to hitting him with the swinging Silicon Valley Slam (Gunnslinger) to pick up the victory and retain his title. The win seems to be much to the chagrin of Jesse Ventura, who says that as good an athlete as Kip is, if it weren’t for the KoW and the commissioner, he’d never have gotten that title from Brian Pillman, which he says others agree with while pointing out a sign that says “Pillman = The REAL TV champion!”.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><em>Winner and STILL WCW World Television Champion in 5:42: California Kip</em></p><p><em> Rating: C</em></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/SteveAustin2.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> We go outside to the parking garage again, where Steve Austin is still standing by the guards at the door. He already talked to Bob earlier, and he’ll be happy to help Austin and the Armstrongs in their quests to knock them all down a few pegs! Badd! They come out, trailed by manager Teddy Long, and Badd starts to talk about Lance Storm, Dean Malenko, and Larry Zbyszko, telling them that this thing between them all needs to come to a close so that he and Alex can turn their attention elsewhere. Okerlund says that he actually didn’t want to talk about that, he instead wanted to ask Johnny about the deal that was alluded to on Steve Austin’s videotape between himself and Nick Bockwinkel! Alex chimes in, saying he wanted to ask Johnny about that all week, but Badd never answered his phone calls. Badd says that he’s been no traitor, and he didn’t get back to Alex because he was busy this week a lot. Johnny says that he had no idea that Nick was working with the Kings of Wrestling; he simply told him that he would set things up so that Badd could get the US title from Austin, something which anybody back there would have jumped on in his position! But Long says that Badd never even told him about that, which Gene says is very telling! Johnny says that the subject is closed, he obviously didn’t win the title so the chance got passed on to other people. Badd turns attention back to the Shooters, saying that if they want to keep up this fight, then he and Alex will be right there to face them anytime, anywhere! He says that teaming with Ric Flair isn’t going to help that, because it’s Sting relying on people who just aren’t good for him again. Lex says that he isn’t going to be caught dead in Long Beach though, and Jake is busy back down in AAA this week, so Sting can just see how good other people do for his career on his own this week.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><em>Rating: C+</em></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/RoddyPiper.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> “The Green Hills of Tyrol” bring out someone who was conspicuous by his absence at Battlebowl, “Hot Rod” Roddy Piper! Piper marches down to the ring, getting a microphone as he says that he had some urgent Kings business to handle last Sunday night, but by the looks of it, it’s not as though Hollywood needed his help to take down a brainless hulk like Ron Simmons! Roddy says that Sunday was a good night to be a King; claiming that since Hogan retained, Sting lost out, and two out of three World title challengers are total chumps, the only thing Hollywood will have to worry about is what size to make the check for Vader to lay down at Spring Stampede! Piper starts to talk about how there’s nobody in WCW gonna have the guts to face off with the KoW after Hogan defeats three other people, so maybe he should just go home and sit out the rest of his big, big money contract! Roddy begins to walk out of the ring, but he gets interrupted…</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/RickMartel.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> By the music of Rick Martel! Martel steps out into the aisle with his own microphone, and he tells Piper that he needs to take a look around WCW – there are a lot of guys who have been standing up to the Kings of Wrestling, and Rick himself is one of them! Martel talks about how he’s here to show people that no matter who they’ve been in the past, they can always have a bright new future, and he thinks that Piper could do the same. Roddy laughs at Rick, calling him a loser no matter who he’s been or what he’s done! Martel says that if Piper wants to put his money where his mouth is, then why doesn’t he show up to Toronto with his working boots on, and we can see who the loser is! Piper says that’s pretty big talk, but he has nothing to gain by facing Martel. Rick says that he’s right, Piper has nothing to gain in the match. The only thing Roddy has left is the Kings of Wrestling – if Hogan lets him be. Piper looks confused, asking for him to clarify that thought, but choose his words carefully. Martel tells him that it’s not Roddy’s name at the top of the heap in the KoW, which means that just like how it’s always been, Roddy must be second best again! Piper yells back that he is no man’s second best, that he and Hollywood are equals – and if it takes getting in the ring with a no-name like Martel, then he’ll prove it! Rick smiles and nods, as Piper tells him that he’ll make him pay the Piper at Spring Stampede!</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><em>Rating: B-</em></p><p><em> Notes: Martel worked the crowd very well with his improv work here.</em></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/kow.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/WCWs/GeneOkerlund.jpg</span> </div><p></p><p></p><p> We head backstage to “Mean” Gene again, and he’s standing with Hollywood Hogan and “Macho Man” Randy Savage. Hogan and Savage talk about the match tonight against Flair and Sting, Hogan saying that they won’t know what hit ‘em when Hollywood and “the Madness” join forces again. Savage talks about how he doesn’t care about Sting, and he’s faced and destroyed Flair many times before, and there’s no way that Flair will ever or can ever survive what “the Madness” is all about! Roddy Piper comes into shot, joining his companions to say that Rick Martel just made a HUGE mistake by provoking the “Hot Rod”, a mistake that could cost him his career if he doesn’t back off! Hogan and Piper make up, each saying that they are equals in the KoW, with Savage adding that rankings and leaders are for cowards and loudmouths, and the Kings of Wrestling doesn’t rock the boat; they all have their heads that they follow, everyone but “the Macho Man” because he follows no man! He follows no rule, except for the rule of “the Madness”, and “the Madness” tells him to take Ric Flair and Sting and smash their heads together so hard they fuse into one person, so he can punch them in the face at the same time! Arn says that it shows Dustin has been listening to what he and Flair have preached to him, that to get ahead you need to be ruthless. Flair then takes over, saying that he and Arn have told Dustin the way it is: that if Anderson wanted his shot, he would turn and punch Flair himself out to get it! And that’s his best friend! Flair then turns the attention toward the main event tonight, as he teams up with perennial enemy Sting to take on Hogan and Savage tonight. Flair says that he’s seen the both of them in the ring, and he’s had his wins and losses against them, just like he has Sting, but tonight, he’s promising victory for their cause! Okerlund asks if Flair is actually cleared to go after the attack from Scott Hall, but Ric says he doesn’t care what any pencil-pushing doctor tries to tell him – he’s “the Nature Boy”! He may be handed a huge prize next week, but this week all he was handed were big right hands, as Terry was on the warpath to prove himself worthy of the US title that he feels he was robbed of. Steamboat is a great foil for the big-guy-little-guy match formula, as he takes in all the punishment and keeps coming back with chops and arm drags that take Gordy off his feet, just for Terry to power his way back into the lead. Mark Curtis takes an errant lariat from Gordy toward the end of the match, and that brings out US Heavyweight Champion Steve Austin, doing just what Commissioner Bockwinkel didn’t want to see! Austin rushes into the ring and kicks Gordy in the stomach before drilling him with a Stunner! Steamboat gets up and looks at his old enemy, but only for a moment before he tastes the Stunner as well! Austin stomps on Gordy, before scaring Robert Parker away from the ring with a few threats! The match finally starts with Savage and Flair brawling in the corner, trading fists and knife-edge chops. Sting keeps yelling at Hogan from the other side of the ring, who taunts the face-painted star from his side. Savage and Flair trade off to be Savage and Sting, and Sting takes “The Macho Man” to the corner and starts hitting kicks and punches on him. Randy weathers the storm and comes back though, punching Sting down and running the ropes with him, diving over the top to snap Sting’s neck over the top! Hollywood gets tagged in, and he taunts Sting while putting the boots to him. Hogan goes for a cover, but Sting kicks out. Hollywood hits a big bodyslam, but Sting pops back up! Hogan turns to tag back out, but Sting grabs him and throws him over to Flair, who hits a big right hand before Sting hits his own bodyslam on him! Sting leaps up and drops his own legdrop on Hollywood, but a quick pin gets a kickout. Sting tags out to Flair, who hits some knife-edge chops to chase Hogan around the ring, but an eye rake gives Hogan a chance to escape and tag out. Hogan drops to the floor to catch his breath again, as Savage leaps over the top rope and keeps on Flair. Randy wastes no time in hopping to the top rope, and a big double axehandle from “The Macho Man” leads to a near-fall. Tony talks about how this match is running at breakneck speed, because these men all despise one another just that much that they aren’t taking any time to pace themselves. Flair wants to tag back up, but Savage won’t let him, so Flair instead takes the fight to him, hitting a series of knife-edge chops before going for a roll-up! Hollywood steps in though, and breaks it up, which brings Sting into the ring as this one goes crazy again! Sting and Hogan tumble out of the ring, and Hollywood punches Sting and throws him into the barricade. The focus turns back to Flair and Savage, as Hogan rejoins them on the other side of the ring. Hollywood rushes with a running clothesline to Flair, which Bobby says looked very hard and peppy for someone who’s been wrestling and fighting so hard for the past few minutes. Hogan and Savage throw Flair to the ropes and try to hit a double clothesline, but Flair ducks, before kicking Savage and sending him into the turnbuckle post! Flair turns to Hogan and chops him down, kicking him in the leg and putting on the figure four leglock! Hollywood starts screaming frantically, as Savage distracts Tommy Young! The Queen screams, and Flair’s hold gets broken… by a Hogan legdrop?! Commentary are all baffled, as Savage heads up to the top rope, Hogan – and Hogan – rolling to the outside. Sting tries to re-enter the ring, but security have him as behind Tommy’s back, he’s gotten into a fight with a massive man in the crowd! Randy drops the big elbow on Flair, and makes the cover to get the win for the Kings of Wrestling! All of the KoW members, along with the fan in the crowd, all disappear as fast as they can, and Sting is left to curse to himself and go argue with Tommy Young, who says he can’t do anything because he was counting the pin and not watching outside. Tony says that fans can tune in next week to Saturday Night to find out what just happened. Heenan and Ventura are asking where the help for Sting and Flair was?</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><em>Winners in 9:36: Hollywood Hogan & Randy Savage</em></p><p><em> Rating: A*</em></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/ArnAnderson.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> We head backstage, and we find out the reason why there wasn’t any backup for Flair and Sting. He says that there’s something else going on, fans, and apparently we are going to it right now. We head to a video which looks to be somewhere backstage. Scott Steiner is the first person we see in front of the shaky camera, and he says that he has gotten pretty sick and tired of the KoW and all their hired help during matches – especially the Road Warriors. Two guys who should be able to steamroll the competition, have to rely on someone to tip the scales? That’s bull, says Scott! He says that if the Kings aren’t so proud as to have help to win all their matches, then why don’t they get some help in getting a match?</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/RickSteiner.jpg</span><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/DustyRhodes2.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> He gets the camera handed to him, and it turns around to show Rick standing there next to a tied-up and gagged “American Outlaw” Dusty Rhodes! Scott has Rick ungag Rhodes, who starts cursing the Steiners! Scott slaps Dusty, saying that as the Road Warriors’ manager, he has the power to make their matches just on a verbal agreement. Scott tells him that we’re going to play a game; the name is “give us what we want or else”! Scott tells Dusty that they want another tag title match at Spring Stampede, or else Rick is going to break his arm! Rhodes starts to tell them that he won’t be bullied, until “The Dog-Faced Gremlin” grabs him and starts twisting his left arm! He turns it around, and Dusty finally says yes! Scott tells him to let go, which Rick does; but Scott adds that while he’s glad Dusty was so willing a participant, they really do have to make sure that Rhodes won’t be at Spring Stampede to help the Warriors retain – and then Rick smashes Dusty’s arm with a chair! Rhodes’s howls of pain are heard, and the Steiner Brothers leave the room, letting the camera there to show the pain on Dusty’s face, as Saturday Night ends!</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><em>Rating: B+</em></p><p><em> Notes: Scott did superb at improvising his dialogue in this one.</em></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="35691" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i1325.photobucket.com/albums/u628/beejus1/WCW-94/WCWMainEvent-1.jpg</span><p> <strong>WCW Main Event</strong></p><p> <em>Commentary: Gordon Solie, Tony Schiavone, Eric Bischoff</em></p><p><em> Rating: C-</em></p><p> </p><p> The Young Pistols d. “Pretty” Paul Roma & Sgt.
