With one simple phone call to Mike Graham, I started the ball rolling on what was to be the most controversial period in North American wrestling history up to that point.  The territories were dead or at the very least mortally wounded.  The only way we could survive, I could survive, was by attempting to go head to head with Vince McMahon and the WWF.  And to do that I'd need all the resources I could get... As much as I liked Mike and respected Dusty Rhodes, buying out CWF didn't make any sense to me... I made the call... I cancelled the deal and set off a chain reaction...<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong id=""><br id=""></strong></span></div></div> </div><div style="clear: both; position: relative; padding: 5px; margin: 5px 0px; height: auto; border: 1px solid transparent;"> <div style="font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; display: block;"><div style="text-align: center;">In retrospect I could've handled it better with Dusty... he took great offence at my decision and my not telling him that I was going to do it... he had to hear directly through Mike and I think his ego got in the way of his decision making process that day... when he furiously stomped into my office and offered to resign his position as head booker, he didn't think I'd take him up on it.  He knew Ole Anderson and I didn't see eye to eye in booking style and Ric Flair, for all his greatness in the ring, wasn't really cut out for the life of the booker.  Tully Blanchard was an outside choice but given the problems Tully brought with him he didn't seem a viable contender either.  But I accepted his resignation... it would make it easier... because what I'd come to realise, what I'd come to accept was that no-one really knew what it took to be a viable contender to the WWF juggernaut... no-one except me..</div></div> </div><div style="clear: both; position: relative; padding: 5px; margin: 5px 0px; height: auto; border: 1px solid transparent;"> <div style="font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; display: block;"><div style="text-align: center;">I did the only logical thing I could.  I stepped into the dressing room to introduce the boys to their new head booker... Nice start, just a question who all did you lose in not buying the CWF? I recognize Mike Graham not being there obviously, but for the most part, your roster seems to be the same as how the 87 mod starts to begin with, except for the added names of Raschke, Wahoo, Dundee, and Mantell, and the subtraction of the Florida title.

<p>Not long ago, I almost sent you a message asking if there had been any progress on your JCP '87 idea--I guess there was! <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Glad to see this up. If your WWF 80's diary from 2010 was any indication, this is going to be great.</p>

really like what i am seeing. Was always a big fan of the NWA and JCP. (ESPECIALY IN THIS TIME PERIOD) I will be following. Keep up the good work.

Thank you! I've always wondered what would've happened to JCP had Magnum T.A. not had his accident the previous winter (and I had originally considered doing a diary on that basis but felt it restricted me to push Magnum as my only real focus.) His injury forced some pretty massive booking shifts at the last minute and Dusty did some great job all things considered but in reality the loss of momentum came at precisely the wrong moment with Wrestlemania III on the horizon.

good first show.

Thanks - appreciate it! Tried to make it a standard run of the mill show with nothing too earth shattering taking place - the new booker doesn't want people to notice a shift in direction!

Good question! I wish I'd kept details of the changes I made but I did it a few months ago when I was testing whether this would work for me or not and then didn't go back to the game for a while... From memory: As well as the Florida title and Mike Graham, I removed Kevin Sullivan, Ron Simmons, Black Bart, Sean Royal, Steve Armstrong, Kendall Windham, Brady Boone (I think), Tiger Conway Jr, Ed Gantner & Chris Champion. The Warlord also got ditched as he wasn't working with JCP again until September. I looked at the booking for JCP leading up to the Crockett Cup and noticed that Wahoo & The Baron were feuding with Bill Dundee & Dick Murdoch so brought the three of them in to the game.

I set CWF up with the following roster: Adrian Street, Bad News Allen, Barry Horowitz, Brady Boone, Bruiser Brody, Chris Champion, Ed Gantner, Kendall Windham, Kevin Sullivan, Mike Graham, Norman Smiley, Ron Fuller, Ron Simmons, Scott Hall, Sean Royal, The Sheik, Sir Oliver Humperdink, Stan Lane, Steve Armstrong, Steve Regal, Tracy Smothers and Vic Steamboat.

They all seemed to work for CWF in February and some of the joint promoted shows in March that year (but weren't on JCP's books). Not the worst pool of talent by any stretch but an absolute nightmare of a locker room!

I also ditched the women's division and Dark Journey as a timesaver.

Yeah I finally got my finger out! My test game went well enough but I booked myself into a corner very early on. Didn't come back to it for a while but had the rush to do it again a couple of weeks ago and have been busily writing some shows up. It will be a little different from my 2010 diary as I've cut down on some of the writing involved - as much as I loved writing for Gorilla and Jesse it took forever to draw the shows up - in the end that's what killed it for me. That and the match write-ups... hate those!

Your diary was, is and remains the inspiration for me playing though and it's very much the gold standard that I'm going to be trying to emulate!

Not a bad list to miss out on, though anytime I've ever played this mod the only ones I ever pushed at all were Sullivan, Simmons, and Warlord. Kendall I'd usually push just a bit until Rotundo could turn on him. The rest of that list I pretty much always just used as jobbers, so you're not missing out on anything in my view!

Like TFC said, I loved your WWF mod from 2010, so I hope you can keep up that good 87 momentum here!

Tully Blanchard won't hesitate to slap a bitch.

Nice show Ritch, now you got me wondering who The Heel is gonna end up being. Flair vs Wahoo at Mayhem should be a fine match, and damn it looks like the Twosome have really drawn the short straw. Plus, STING! I usually don't sign him this early in games, but not a bad idea to lock him down and begin his Road Warrior-esque push early.

Heh... yeah Tully was never afraid to be 'controversial' and neither was Jimmy lets face it so he's not in a position to talk! Still I figured the Turner execs would want The Horsemen to at least appear upset at what had happened...

Sting was a bit of a last minute decision but I do need to freshen up my babyfaces a little and I wanted to get him in before New Japan snapped him up (as tends to happen when I play). Long term written deal - he's locked in!

Wahoo McDaniel vs <em>Ric Flair</em></p><p><em>

There will be no stopping the Horsemen train tonight.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Nikita Koloff</em> vs Ivan Koloff</p><p>

<em>Should be a decent little match, great brawl with a lot of history behind it.</em></p><p> </p><p>

The Road Warriors vs <em>Awesome Twosome</em></p><p><em>

I could maybe see the Warriors get the win by DQ, but either way, the Twosome are keeping the belts for now.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Barry Windham & Ron Garvin vs <em>The Midnight Express</em></p><p><em>

I love the buildup to this one, with Windham and Garvin ignoring the challenge until it's too late.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Denny Brown</em> vs Shashka Whatley</p><p>

<em>In a way, who cares...</em></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Dusty Rhodes</em> vs Vladimir Petrov</p><p>

<em>Vlad can maybe pick up a few skills points, at least.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Ole Anderson vs <em>Lex Luger</em></p><p><em>

Same as the previous; Lex needs polish, and Ole can help him get there.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Jimmy Garvin & Mike Rotundo vs <em>Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard</em></p><p><em>

Then it's gonna be party time, whooo!</em></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Sting</em> vs Teijo Khan</p><p>

<em>Erm, yeah...</em></p><p> </p><p>

Kansas Jayhawks vs <em>The Rock 'n' Roll Express</em> vs The MOD Squad vs Tim Horner & The Heel</p><p>

<em>Easy win picked up for the RNRs. By next month I figure they'll likely be heading for one of the Tag titles.</em></p>

<p>Wahoo McDaniel vs <strong>Ric Flair</strong></p><p>

-I don't think Wahoo has a chance here.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Nikita Koloff</strong> vs Ivan Koloff</p><p>

-More upside on Alexei...err, Nikita. <img alt=";)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/wink.png.686f06e511ee1fbf6bdc7d82f6831e53.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>The Road Warriors</strong> vs Awesome Twosome</p><p>

-By DQ or Countout, so no title change.</p><p> </p><p>

Barry Windham & Ron Garvin vs <strong>The Midnight Express</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Denny Brown</strong> vs Shashka Whatley</p><p>

-No idea, really. Just basing this off of Whatley's abysmal performance.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Dusty Rhodes </strong> vs Vladimir Petrov</p><p>

-Easy.</p><p> </p><p>

Ole Anderson vs <strong>Lex Luger</strong></p><p>

-Lex is rising, Ole is falling.</p><p> </p><p>

Jimmy Garvin & Mike Rotundo vs <strong>Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard</strong></p><p>

-No way will Jimmy be focused after what happened.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Sting</strong> vs Teijo Khan</p><p>

-This seems to be set up to allow the Stinger to make a splash.</p><p> </p><p>

Kansas Jayhawks vs <strong>The Rock 'n' Roll Express</strong> vs The MOD Squad vs Tim Horner & The Heel</p><p>

-They feel like the biggest stars in this match by a fair margin, so yeah.</p>

Dillon’s advice to win at all costs – something that Ole could not be accused of as he would often break Lex’s momentum with sneaky low blows, eye rakes and hair pulls much to the crowd’s delight.  It was one of these eyepokes that managed to break Lex’s patented Torture Rack submission hold before it could be applied properly.  Turning it into a fallaway slam, the wind was knocked out of Anderson’s sails.  Finally succumbing to the temptation of rulebreaking Luger placed his feet on the ropes to grab the win.</p><p align="center"> </p><strong id=""><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Winner by Pinfall in 16:04: ‘The Total Package’ Lex Luger</span></strong></div></div> </div></div></div><div style="padding:0 5px;overflow:hidden;"><div id=""><div style="height: 18px; cursor: n-resize;"></div><div style="clear: both; position: relative; padding: 5px; margin: 5px 0px; height: auto; border: 1px solid transparent;"> <div style="font-size: 16px; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; display: block;"><div id=""><p align="center"><strong id="">Ole Anderson</strong> gets to his feet with a twisted smile… he knows he’s been beaten at his own game.  He lets out a laugh and offers <strong id="">Lex Luger</strong> a hand to shake much to the crowd’s shock.  Luger looks stunned but accepts the hand before <strong id="">James J. Great big show/pay-per-view. Especially enjoying the antics of the Four Horsemen but that is no surprise, right? Really enjoying your write-ups both in interviews and in matches. I can actually picture the interviews in the voices of the men who are giving them and that means you are on the right track. Looking forward to seeing what else you have in store for the future, Ritchardo.

Especially enjoying the antics of the Four Horsemen but that is no surprise, right? Really enjoying your write-ups both in interviews and in matches. I can actually picture the interviews in the voices of the men who are giving them and that means you are on the right track. Looking forward to seeing what else you have in store for the future, Ritchardo.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> That's a big compliment! Thanks very much - I've tried to vary the styles a little bit, some people are speaking very much in soundbites, others are far more verbose and there's the odd verbal mistake creeping in - deliberate I may add... although I have made a few typos myself so I tend to just blame the workers for my proofreading mistakes! <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="The Final Countdown" data-cite="The Final Countdown" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="36264" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Luger's "Yeah!" was hilarious.<p> </p><p> Poor Barry, he might have pulled a hammy or something! I had gotten myself into character and the Ric, Arn and Tully stuff just flowed but I was at a complete loss as to what to say as Lex! He's not in a direct feud of his own and isn't as adept at being able to weave himself into things as Ric is... so I played on it a little bit and tried to turn a negative into a positive!</p><p> </p><p> Yeah it's a real shame that Barry wasn't able to help Ron out - with the troubles they've been going through that just might have brought them together a little...</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Oh and while I'm here - a massive thanks to Beejus for the DOTM nomination - I am completely humbled as I personally didn't think the diary was anywhere near that standard at the moment. A huge compliment.</p><p> </p><p> Thanks for continuing to read guys - I'll try and have my March 87 overview up this evening (Aus time).</p>
