The Freshverse [RELEASE]

Recommended Posts

The Freshverse is a compilation of the original WMMA, Weidt's Weidtverse, Fresh Start and majesty95's Beginning of MMA Reboot data, cleaned up and modified for WMMA3 playability by xspudx.

The year is 1990. A group of martial arts practitioners are set to form their own fighting promotion in the East. They strive to teach the true values of combat and the respect that comes with it. This would be the birth of the modern martial arts movement, known as 'Mixed Martial Arts'.

Step 1. Download and Extract (Winrar)

Step 2. Create two new databases and move the Import and Freshverse folders over to their locations in your GDS database folder

Step 3. Add the Freshverse picture pack to your GDS picture folder

Step 4. (Optional) It is recommended to play this game with fantasy on (but not necessary, shows will happen more often in the earlier years) and to import the import database at the start of 2000 for the best balance.

Enjoy. Hopefully this reignites a spark in the community. I'm happy to fix any errors and continue to update if anybody is willing to point stuff out.

ISL is Openweight, and with fantasy off, they won't make fights as easy because of the prep time and the problems with matchmaking and weight. It shouldn't matter a few years in when ALPHA comes along and they introduce weight divisions.</p>

<p>It's a pity the editor isn't equiped with tools to handle historic mods. I'm hoping the next installment will have options to 'program' certain fighters to sign with certain promotions or fight camps upon debut. Sure, you can 'hint' the AI into taking them by assigning pop, but it's not the same.</p><p> </p><p>

edit: Looked at the files, but there seem to be a relatively big number of double renders involved. I looked at the 'new' ones, and there's several that are used by several of the mods you integrated, especially for the women (actually: so far, only women). Also noticed a lot of great fighters only debut at age 27 or something. Guys like Da Guia still remain young, but most of them are 'old'. Well, 25, but rising up on the rankings takes years, especially when piloted by the AI.</p>

At first sight: Amber Douglas - Bethany Hartley - Courtney Goodwin - Cassidy Monroe - Connie Boggs - Beatriz Cardoso - Etsuko Tsuchiya - Erica Cosby - Iverna Fajardo - Maha Vera? - Milica Nicolic - Piera Nucci - Rocci Chamberlain - Sandra Baez - ...

But like I said: there's still plenty of female renders I (or others) made that can replace those. There's also some I had named differently, but that could just be me. I have some time on my hands next week. I'll release a new pack with updated stuff.

That's disappointing to hear, I'll look into it. I didn't really mess with people's ages from the Weidt and Majesty mods, I think he altered the original ages, I'm not sure. The only ones I edited were the ones starting out.

I know there's a lot of dupe renders in the picture folder but I thought I cleared them out, I'll have a look in game.

Edit: Yep, clearly missed a few. That's the issue with importing FSC, there's a lot of the same renders being used for WMMA3.

Once you're sure that you have them all removed (faces <em>and</em> bodies), you should be able to find all of the fighters who were using the duplicates by checking the 'Has No Pictures' box in the fighter list's filter. That's assuming that all of the fighters without unique pictures are using your silhouettes, so they won't show up when you apply the filter.</p><p> </p><p> Of course the problem is that renders sometimes get re-uploaded or edited and you end up with two identical renders that somehow have different file sizes.</p><p> </p><p> EDIT: I guess I didn't read the thread carefully. Looks like you've already tried sorting by size. Sorry. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> I suppose you could try filtering the fighters by race and/or gender to make it a bit more obvious when you come across a duplicate. In the vast majority of cases it's pretty unlikely that you'd use the same render for two fighters of different races. I guess Hispanic-looking renders can be pretty versatile, though...</p>

You can give the command to change all pictures to the fighter's name and you can identify the doubles after having sorted through the gif's on size. I just identified them through experience as my last few games have been all WEFF so by now I know pretty much all the women in the db.</p>

Thanks for finding that, solves all the picture problems I had.</p><p> </p><p> I'll delete the duplicate characters. I know I could change the renders to silly's (silhouette's) but I think it's better to cut down characters that have a regen and debut pre-Weidtverse. It's just tidier, I guess. There's more than enough fighters in the game to compensate.</p><p> </p><p> From there I'm gonna have a look at the ages. If Blackman could help point out some guys that aren't realistic and whatnot, I'll have a look through and see if I can fix it. Also if anyone comes across any more issues, let me know.</p><p> </p><p> I do know that most of the starting guys have their age just because it's more realistic than everyone starting at their youngest age. Everyone is different, but there should only be a minor amount of fighters who are debuting in their late twenties, especially not the good fighters. Don't know why that's happening. I think when Majesty made the mod he altered a lot of guys debuts so they might be thrown off. In that case, I could compare it to the original database and see who's off. The weidtverse characters should all be fine.</p><p> </p><p> edit: Okay, gone through and deleted the duplicates. I only had two fighters in game who I'd missed, which I think is pretty good. I haven't found any female duplicate renders anywhere so not sure where to look for that.</p>

You guys getting virus warnings, make sure you click the 'Freshverse.rar' link at the top of the download page, next to the little orange tag. xspudx is very trustworthy, so I'd say it's either some kind of false positive, or you're clicking the bogus link at the bottom that says 'Download with Tiny DM' or whatever.

<p>I'll find a different place to upload when I release the next version. I'm looking at the ages of the debuting fighters and it's definitely off. The first batch of heavyweights should be more varied in age.</p><p> </p><p>

I can either make the choice to manually work on the ages and see if they even themselves out after the first few years, or I can tone down the original databases characters stats but keep their ages/debut the default. I'm not sure, either way it could be a lot of work.</p><p> </p><p>

Or the third option, which I'm considering is dropping the beginning of the game, working on a full history with the default characters, then add in the Weidtverse for 2000 for all the flyweights/female fighters. It may make slightly more sense, it's a real shame there's no way to easily drop everybody's stats to fully simulate their debut.</p><p> </p><p>

I'll have a look at Weidt's FSC and see if I can pull something together.</p>

I was working on the mod last night and decided to go a different way. Now I have two different mods available for download.

Freshverse Part 1 | Part 2

A slightly reworked version with dupes deleted. Haven't worked on the ages yet. Starts from 1988 and progresses from there.

Weidtverse+

I've removed the FSC and Majesty95 mods, and simply converted over the Weidtverse to the default game. It'll start in 1998 as usual and the characters/companies of the Weidtverse will soon appear the next year. I haven't done much testing yet (was too shattered last night) so there might be a few niggles in the game, but it seems a pretty straight forward mod so it'll probably be fine.

I've kept the history for the starting companies/fighters/camps because I wasn't sure if I should delete it, so I left it up to your digression. From here, I'm gonna extensively work on this mod (probably more than the Freshverse, unless people demand updates) and start adding fight histories/end of the year awards and title histories.

As usual I'd like to be given any info on any bugs/mistakes/ideas and whatnot. But both mods are highly playable. Enjoy. :)

PS. I'm not much of a renderer, so I'm still out to find some good male/female body and face silhouettes. I have the option of three already (and I've gone for the first one for the moment); the default white silhouettes from the base game, a reworked version made darker (looks a bit naff), and there's also the silhouettes from the MW pack. What with the game faces having a black background, I've not really found a good silhouette that looks nice without being too overbearing but at the same time, isn't so dark that it just blends into the background anyway. If anyone could point me in the direction of some new ones or ideas, or even make some, I'd appreciate it. I tried giving them all a bright glowing outline but that didn't look too good neither.

<p>Just take one random render of a male and female and change all the colours to black (or whatever colour). That way you'll get a silouette. Gimp can do that, but i'm pretty sure most programs can.</p><p> </p><p>

Great work on the mods. You can always use my renders if you're in need. Some have been claimed already by other mods, but I don't keep a list so I have no idea. On my photobucket, the fully named ones are normally taken.</p><p> </p><p>

Given the nature of the game and its databasecreater it's probably best to start off with the default data and just add a future. You can make title histories as I did (for all promotion title fights at least), but it's a little work.</p>

I'm looking to bolster the lower weights and women's divisions next. I feel it would be a little cheap for all the Fly's and Bantam's to have no pictures, and only a small amount of females. I don't mind that you use belt graphics i've done, since i made them to be used. But you could atleast ask and give credit when you are releasing a mod. When doing a mod or expansion i think it's important to document all changes and everything thats added from the start, so that everyone can be credited for there work/contribution. <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/cool.png.f00d2562b2c1d873a09323753efdb041.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
