Jesse James, for example, went (goes!?) on to become the Road Dogg of New Age Outlaws/DX fame. Before that, however, he was an ally of Jeff Jarrett (who by this point was in WCW), before becoming the "Real Double J" Jesse James. Fairly sure before he did the NAO intros, he used to sing a song on the way to the ring as James! :D

Doh, this is what I meant by embarrising comments. I have watched some DX promos on youtube and he always referred himself as "Road Dog" Jesse James, I just couldn´t connect the dots here. :p Oh well, like I said, I have my back covered. :D

A few days later than planned, but I have finally booked Wrestlemania 13! I haven't written it up yet, but a quick run through suggests it should be a good card. Not, perhaps, the greatest rating ever but that's largely due to the main event rating (which, lets just say, was never going to be an A*) and a very disappointing semi-main. Still, it's a show I'm happy with so I'll just have to make sure that Wrestlemania 14 is even better! :D

So, this diary will at least reach Wrestlemania 13, although with plans going as far as 1998 already there's a strong possibility we'll go past that. Plus, I have been re-reading Keefmoon's epic, and that's about as strong a motivator as a real world diary writer can find!

The next episode of RAW will be posted tomorrow or Thursday, so any last predictions will need to be posted sooner rather than later :D

WWF 1997: IN YOUR HOUSE

A TEW2013 DIARY

WWF MONDAY NIGHT RAW #2

FILMED IN ALBANY, NY MONDAY 8 JANUARY 1997

AIRED MONDAY JANUARY 8 1997 ON USA NETWORK (1.68)

ANNOUNCE TEAM: VINCE McMAHON, JERRY LAWLER & JIM ROSS

SHAWN MICHAELS - SYCHO SID

The show kicked off with Shawn Michaels in the centre of the ring. The #1 Contender explained to the fans that Jose Lothario was recovering back in Texas thanks to the violent and unprovoked attack by Sid Vicious on the previous week's show. Michaels told Sid that if he thought mind games such as those would stop him from winning the belt at the Royal Rumble then he is mistaken, and HBK promised the fans that he would take back the title at the Royal Rumble! Michaels said he won his first WWF Championship in a match that will go down in history (against Bret Hart at Wrestlemania 12), but explained that when it came to Sycho Sid match quality wasn't important, he just needed to prove a point and also win the title back for the fans, and Jose Lothario. Sid briefly appeared before the segment came to an end and while he didn't have a microphone, the camera picked up him warning Michaels that nothing was sacred as long as he held the belt!

Mankind & Vader w/Paul Bearer vs Aldo Montoya & Bob Holly

A makeshift team of
Aldo Montoya& Bob Holly
wouldn't be many fans' pick to win any match, let alone a match against Paul Bearer's army of
Mankind & Vader
. Surpringly, both Holly and Montoya got some offence in during the match, but it didn't really take much for Vader and Mankind to gain control of the contest. Mankind ended up getting the victory for his team (although Vader seemed somewhat unimpressed by this) after hitting Montoya with a
Piledriver
just after the seven minute mark.

RESULT: Mankind & Vader win in 7:18! C+

THE UNDERTAKER

With the match over the bells tolled, the lights faded to purple and The Undertaker appeared on the TitanTron! Speaking slowly but purposefully, clearly, but forcefully The Undertaker promised vengeance against Vader at the Royal Rumble. After reminding fans of the feud he has been fighting against the Bearer Army, Undertaker said that he would make sure that Mankind, Vader and Paul Bearer would Rest In Peace by the time Wrestlemania 13 came around...

Wolfie D w/Faarooq & JC Ice vs Ahmed Johnson

Ahmed Johnson
was up next as he took on one-third of the Nation of Domination,
Wolfie D
. Wolfie isn't the most experienced member of the group, and it wasn't surprising to see Johnson take control very early on. Wolfie was accompanied to the ring by stablemates Faarooq and JC Ice and almost as soon as the match began they began to throw their weight around. After Johnson hit his
Pearl River Plunge
finisher, Faarooq and Ice jumped into the ring and began stomping Johnson into the mat! The history books will record this is as a disqualification win for Ahmed Johnson, but in reality the match was already won!

RESULT: Ahmed Johson wins via disqualification in 3:33! D+

VINCE McMAHON - ROCKY MAIVIA

The action returned after a short break to ringside where Vince McMahon was stood in the centre of the squared circle. Vince introduced third-generation superstar Rocky Maivia to the ring and began to ask him about his hopes for the future. Rocky said he wanted to be the man of the people, and that he had dreamed of becoming a WWF superstar ever since he first saw his father Rocky Johnson wrestle in the same company as a youngster. Rocky said he had plans to reach the very top, but was just glad to be wrestling in the WWF where his father and grandfather had wrestled before him. Vince asked Rocky how he was preparing for his match with Faarooq scheduled for Superstars and the youngster simply said that he was approaching it as he did every other match – with confidence and hope.

The Sultan w/Bob Backlund vs Goldust w/Marlena

In the show's semi-main event
Goldust
and the savage
Sultan
put on a surprisingly entertaining bout. Despite being completely outsized, Goldust fought valiantly but it was clear from the outset that one of the two managers in attendance would tip the balance. Bob Backlund was a master of playing the referee for The Sultan and stopped Goldust from scoring several close pins. It would be Marlena, however, that would secure the victory for her client after planting a kiss on the masked Sultan's manager Bob Backlund! The Sultan was stunned (although not as stunned as Backlund!), and Goldust used the opportunity to roll him up for the victory.

RESULT: Goldust wins in 5:21! C+

HUNTER HEARST HELMSLEY - GOLDUST - MARLENA

Hunter Hearst Helmsley, the WWF Intercontinental Champion, came down to the ring to mock Marlena and Goldust over the manner of their victory. Helmsley claimed he had the history, the skill and the pedigree to win matches fair and square and that he needed no help to win a match (a clearly false claim, given Curtis Hughes' tendency to weigh in on matches). Suddenly Marc Mero came down to the ring and challenged Hunter to a match then and there! Hunter laughed off the challenge, but Mero was insistent. Mero said he was tired of seeing Hunter mistreat Sable, and then mistreat Marlena, and that he was going to set things straight. Goldust explained that he also wanted a shot at Helmsley and he too offered to fight Hunter then and there. Uninvited, colour commentator Jerry Lawler stepped up and said he was tired of listening to the bickering of Mero and Goldust and that he'd shut both of them up next week. Hunter agreed and a tag match was set for next week's RAW!

Steve Austin vs British Bulldog

The main event was an excellent contest that saw
Steve Austin
continue his feud with Bret Hart by proxy, by taking on Hart's brother-in-law
British Bulldog
. With Austin getting much of the attention pre-match it would have been easy to forget that Bulldog is currently one-half of the World Tag Team champions and his powerful frame, yet superb technical ability saw him take the match to Austin right from the off. The experienced Englishman continually slowed the match down while Austin wanted to brawl in his typical wild fashion. Early on Bulldog's tactics works and the headlock takedowns and sleeperholds were infuriating the “Rattlesnake” (and boring portions of the audience), but an angry Steve Austin is not something you want to face in the ring. Once Austin had managed to string together a few moves he began to look like the challenger to Bret Hart he believes he is, but it was his adaptability that saw him emerge victorious. When Bulldog went for a
Stalling Vertical Suplex
, Austin slipped out the back and pushed Bulldog towards the corner, sending him crashing into the referee in the process. While Davey Boy checked on the official, Austin slipped out of the ring and grabbed a steel chair! When Bulldog turned around Austin was waiting and waffled him with the chair to devastating effect! Even so, when the referee came around Austin's pin only just reached three before Bulldog kicked out, just a split-second too late to prevent Austin being declared the victor!

RESULT: Steve Austin wins in 12:12! B

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/WWF%201997/Card/SteveAustin.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/WWF%201997/Card/BritishBulldog.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/WWF%201997/Card/OwenHart.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/WWF%201997/Card/BretHart.jpg

STEVE AUSTIN - BRITISH BULLDOG - THE HARTS

Austin, taking his feud with Bret Hart to the extreme decided to make a point to the Hitman, and intended on using his brother-in-law, Davey Boy Smith, to do it. With Bulldog already dazed from the chair shot that won Austin the match, Austin hit a
Stunner
before locking in Hart's own finishing move the
Sharpshooter!
Austin refused to release the hold despite Bulldog screaming in agony and a handful of referees tugging at his arms. It was only when Bret Hart and Bulldog's tag partner Owen came charging to the ring that Austin let Smith go, signalling for the Harts to bring it on. However, before another fight could break out and army of officials had formed a wall between Austin and his rivals and the show went off the air with the two trading insults from a distance!

Bulldog said that without a steel chair to the face, he'd have won his match with Austin. WWF WEEKLY RUMBLINGS

JANUARY WEEK TWO 1997

-Current WWF star Allen Sarven, better known as Leif Cassidy, has signed a PPA deal with ECW. ECW and the WWF have a working agreement, and as such the signing was encouraged by WWF officials. Cassidy will be wrestling under the "Al Snow" ringname.

-The World Wrestling Federation have offered a contract to Joanie Laurer, a muscular female competitor trained by Killer Kowalski. Laurer is said to be a close friend of Hunter Hearst Helmsley, and is expected to debut in some capacity within the next two months.

-WWF have extended their influence by signing a second working agreement, this time with AAA. No wrestlers have been traded at this time.

-WCW Monday Night Nitro won the ratings war with the WWF Monday Night RAW once again. The World Wrestling Federation haven't won the television ratings contest since early 1996. RAW's USA Network ratings dropped by 0.04 compared with last week's show.

-The World Wrestling Federation has official opened up its developmental territory. Named the Heartland Wrestling Alliance, the company is to be run by Danny Davis, a veteran of the Southern tag team wrestling scene as a member of the Galaxians and Nightmares with Ken Wayne (not to be confused with WWF alumni Danny Davis). No signings have yet been made.

The weirdest brawl mix I've ever seen. :p

Yeah, but it is WCW... :p

Actually, saying that Nitro seems quite sensible (if you ignore Hogan in that opener), but Saturday Night is such a mix of odd pairings that it really deserves to get a D+! :D

MONDAY NIGHT RAW #3 Confirmed Matches (Heels First)

The Executioner (aka Terry Gordy) vs Bob Holly - Poor Terry Gordy - from Fabulous Freebird to masked jobber. Bob Holly wins this as he continues moving up the card.

Hunter Hearst Helmsley & Jerry Lawler vs Goldust & Marc Mero - I see the Connecticut Blueblood's issues with Sable and Marlena leading to a double count-out involving Hunter and Goldust.

Vader vs Shawn Michaels - At this point, Vader's still far from jobber to the stars status, but HBK will find a way to beat the much larger man. As mentioned, he needs to be kept strong for Royal Rumble.

SUPERSTARS #3 Confirmed Matches (Heels First)

Henry O Godwinn vs Bart Gunn - Post-Smoking Gunns, Billy became "Mr. Ass", among other successful gimmicks. (No, that doesn't include his partnership with Chuck Palumbo.) Bart, on the other hand, won Brawl for All. Yes, THAT Brawl for All maligned by wrestling fans all over the world.

The Sultan vs Ahmed Johnson - Nation interferes, leading to the DQ.

A quick question - what do people think about a prediction contest? Should there be one, or should predictions just be for "fun" as it were? If people want a prize at the end, some suggestions for prizes would be most welcome. For what it is worth, "last week" virtually everyone got full marks (although 1997 RAW was fairly predictable in its outcomes still). Thanks for the predictions so far this time too!

The next couple of shows should be up around Monday, Tuesday time if anyone wants to get some predictions in. :)

<p>It don´t matter for me if there is prize or not so I´m ok just predicting for fun. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

MONDAY NIGHT RAW #3 Confirmed Matches (Heels First)</p><p>

<strong>The Executioner (aka Terry Gordy)</strong> vs Bob Holly</p><p>

<em>Executioner might be the least important member of Bearer´s army but he´s still upper midcard guy and I figure that´s enough to see him get past Holly.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Hunter Hearst Helmsley & Jerry Lawler vs <strong>Goldust & Marc Mero</strong></p><p>

<em>Not sure if Lawler is still active wrestler at this point but I still see him as somewhat of a weak link here (though I could wll make a case for Mero too) and since I expect Hunter to retain his title I would have Goldust going over here and also give Mero a win back since he seem to be the guy who lost the title to Hunter in the first place.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Vader vs <strong>Shawn Michaels</strong></p><p>

<em>Shawn needs to look strong here and Undertaker could well play mind games with Vader here too.</em></p><p> </p><p>

SUPERSTARS #3 Confirmed Matches (Heels First)</p><p>

Henry O Godwinn vs <strong>Bart Gunn</strong></p><p>

<em>To me this is pretty much a complete coin flip but since Gunn is the singles guy I would have him going over if you have any plans for him.</em></p><p> </p><p>

The Sultan vs <strong>Ahmed Johnson</strong></p><p>

<em>Again, I´m just going to pick guy who is higher on the ladders but Johnson is also the guy who has a feud going.</em></p>

In the ring, WWF World Tag Team champions British Bulldog and Owen Hart were interviewed by Jim Ross, who asked the duo to explain their comments from RAW regarding "bending the rules". Both Hart and Smith refused to elaborate, simply turning the question back on Ross by asking why he felt that the 'bad guys' should be able to take an advantage when the 'good guys' couldn't. As was their intention, Ross didn't have much of an answer as the segment came to an end.</span></div></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><strong> B</strong></span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

Those questions were soon answered when Faarooq, the leader of the Nation Of Domination, appeared at ringside and revealed the reason Crush attacked Ahmed Johnson is because Crush is the newest member of the Nation Of Domination! Faarooq warned the rest of the roster that things were looking up for the Nation and Crush would provide a real push to the stable. </span></div></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><strong>C</strong></span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">
