WWE RAW
Monday, Week 2, September 2004

"Across the Nation" once again accompanies the opening highlight video as Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler welcome us to Monday Night RAW. The final show before Unforgiven is about to get underway, and we're going to be able to see a Vengeance rematch as our main event, with
Triple H
taking on
"The Rabid Wolverine" Chris Benoit
! It should be explosive!

RATING:
90 (A)

Notes
: None.

The Golden Globes w/Stacy Keibler
vs.
Cade and Murdoch

The up-and-coming cowboys looked to up-end the veteran team of Goldust and Val Venis, who both made eyes at Stacy Keibler throughout the match as she cheered them on. Goldust was able to use his crafty, deceivingly-athletic skills to roll up Cade for the win!

After the match, the losing team is absolutely incensed, and Cade and Murdoch both attack their opponents! They put the boots to them and hit the Sweet and Sour to Goldust while Murdoch nailed Venis with a running big boot to the face, knocking him cold! Stacy checks on her (victorious) men as the sore losers are booed to the back.

RATING:
57 (C-) / 40 (D)

Notes
: 8:12. Venis and Cade are both improving their performance.

In the back,
Jonathan Coachman
walks through the door to Eric Bischoff's office, but he doesn't find the GM; instead, he finds the Chairman,
Vince McMahon
! When "The Coach" asks for Bischoff, McMahon says that he's given Eric an indefinite leave of absence, as well as "Sheriff" Austin. He says that both men need to find a way to coexist or they will have to both be removed from their positions on RAW. Neither man has behaved in a way becoming of an executive, and now they will both be on hiatus until they work something out.

RATING:
78 (B)

Notes
: None.

Lita
vs.
Melina

The Women's Champion looked visibly shaken, as the whereabouts of Victoria and Mickie James are still unknown. Lita was able to put this behind her despite a very impressive athletic effort from Melina, and finished her off with the Litasault.

Lita doesn't have much to celebrate however, and she's interrupted by Victoria's voice calling her and her face appearing on the TitanTron. Victoria tells her not to worry, and that Mickie is fine and well-fed and very healthy. The camera pans out and Mickie is bound to a chair with duct tape over her mouth, trying to squirm away. Victoria laughs and Lita begs her and asks what she wants. Victoria has a simple request -- another title match! Lita says 'all you had to do was ask,' but Victoria smiles and says 'yeah, but this way was much more fun,' and shoves the cameraperson right out of the room!

RATING:
63 © / 64 ©

Notes
: Pretty good chemistry between Lita and Melina led to this quality match. They seem to 'get' each other in the ring.

Tajiri
vs.
Tyson Rude w/Trish Stratus and Christian

"The Japanese Buzzsaw" looked to make a statement against a man who has yet to lose in singles competition. Coming off of his big win over Jeff Hardy last week, Rude kept on rolling here. Tajiri was able to mount a couple of flurries, but stared up at the lights following a Northern Lariat for a 3 count.

After the match,
Jeff Hardy and Rob Van Dam
came onto the TitanTron to taunt
Christian and Rude
heading into their tag team match this Sunday. Hardy says that nobody knows how to take risks and put it all on the line better than Jeff Hardy and Rob Van Dam, and RVD says that Christian and Rude are going to find out that it's not so easy when you get in the ring with R-V-D and Jeff-Har-Dy!

RATING:
72 (B-) / 74 (B-)

Notes
: 6:35. Tajiri sold Rude's offense well and these two put on a very good match thanks to their good chemistry.

Randy Orton
is walking through the back when he's encountered by
Chris Benoit
. "The Rabid Wolverine" tells him that he's glad he accepted his challenge for Unforgiven this Sunday. Benoit knows he has something to prove, and that's gonna start tonight when he beats Triple H in the center of the ring. Benoit says that he can't wait to fight Orton this Sunday because he's a hell of an athlete and he definitely has the talent to beat Benoit himself. He tells Randy that if he really wants to make a statement, he'll hold Batista back from interfering this Sunday. No BS, no distractions, just a 1-on-1 match...if he's really a man, he'll make the right choice. He leaves Orton in thought.

RATING:
92 (A)

Notes
: None.

Shelton Benjamin
vs.
Johnny Nitro w/Melina

These two rivals continued their string of matchups here on RAW, with athleticism abound. Chris Jericho provided extra color commentary for the match, and, after a series of provocations by Nitro toward him, "Y2J" helped Benjamin pick up the win by rolling Nitro into a T-Bone Suplex as he tried to regroup on the outside! He returned Shelton's favor from last week, and Nitro found himself on the short end once again!

RATING:
71 (B-) / 75 (B-)

In presumably the boiler room,
Kane
speaks to the camera about this Sunday. No, he doesn't have a match, but is Vince McMahon's promised World Title match worth not breaking Shawn Michaels in two? He wryly says that Shawn is just going to have to wait and see, before releasing an evil laugh that really builds up the tension for this Sunday.

RATING:
93 (A)

Notes
: Will he, won't he? The fans seem pretty invested, they're really liking Kane's slow burn feud constantly looming over HBK.

Ric Flair
vs.
William Regal w/Damien Warlock

These two masters of ring psychology put on a very solid TV semi-main event, one which could have been a classic if Flair had more of a spring in his step. In his first match since splitting with Evolution, "The Nature Boy" found success with an inspired performance, making Regal tap out to the Figure Four Leg Lock!

After the match, the enraged
Flair
takes a microphone and starts to spew nearly inaudibly toward Evolution. He talks about how he stuck by them and stuck by them even as they lost all their titles, and that they stabbed him in the back! "The Nature Boy" says that he wasn't the problem in Evolution -- it's the politics and the arrogance. They may want to be like The Four Horsemen, but until they work as a unit it'll never happen! Cutting off Flair's promo is
Batista
, who has no interest in speaking, and he walks right down to the ring and Flair calls him in. The 320-pounder slides in and catches some rights from Flair! He blocks one and goes for a short-arm clothesline, but Ric ducks and bounces off the ropes with a chop block! The crowd is deafening as Flair goes for the Figure Four! Batista is able to kick him off and roll out of the ring as "The Nature Boy" shakes the ropes and continues to scream, "The Animal" retreating to the back!

RATING:
77 (B) / 89 (A)

Notes
: 9:36.

After a commercial break,
William Regal
is talking to
Damien Warlock
about Regal's defeat when out of nowhere
The Hurricane and Rosey
appear on screen. The Hurricane (in his best superhero voice) tells Regal he didn't look so 'regal' out there against Ric Flair. The Super Hero In Training, Rosey, poorly imitates Hurricane's mannerisms as Warlock develops a disdainful scowl across his face. Regal reminds Hurricane of his squash match against Kane last week, and tells him that he should mind his manners around such upscale gentlemen. The Hurricane says that he didn't realize that at birth Warlock and Regal took the silver spoons out of their mouths and shoved them up their rear ends! Hurricane and the S.H.I.T. walk away, leaving Regal and Warlock disgusted.

RATING:
55 (C-)

Chris Benoit
vs.
Triple H w/Batista

Benoit looked to make a statement early, and locked "The Game" in the Crippler Crossface, but he quickly made it to the ropes. The match was much more of a brawl than Benoit had anticipated, and Triple H used his superior rumbling ability to take control. Benoit was able to break free and force Triple H's chest to exhibit a beet-red color after about a dozen knife-edged chops, but got caught with a vicious clothesline off the ropes from the former champion. It went back and forth, with a couple of missed Pedigree attempts and Crossface reversals for most of the match. Batista was thrown out by referee Earl Hebner for grabbing Benoit's leg a series of times, and Triple H was livid! This prompted Randy Orton to come down the ramp to take his place, and the referee took a bump a few minutes later. Triple H got locked in the Crossface with Hebner down, and Orton got up on the apron to help "The Game," but considered Benoit's words from earlier and opted not to help! Triple H was finally able to break the hold, and as Benoit lifted him up, he clubbed "The Rabid Wolverine" with a low blow! He hit the Pedigree and Orton woke up the referee, who counted 1-2-3 for Triple H!

Triple H and Orton
have a bit of a staredown after the match, but Orton raises "The Game's" hand anyway. The two then start to put the boots to
Chris Benoit
, but the World Heavyweight Champion
Shawn Michaels
sprints down to the ring to Benoit's aid! He lays into both Orton and Triple H with right hands and sends them packing! The crowd goes wild as the champion has one-upped the challenger heading into the Iron Man match this Sunday!

WWE SmackDown!
Thursday, Week 2, September 2004

In tonight's main event, Paul Heyman has announced he will punish Bryan Lloyd by putting him in a 1-on-1 contest against Brock Lesnar. After picking up a big win over "The Censor" Luther Reigns last week, will Lloyd have enough left in his 'underdog' tank to take out the youngest WWE Champion in history?

King Rene Dupree will take on Big Show, Eddie Guerrero will face off with one-half of the WWE Tag Team Champions, and there's a Tag Team Turmoil match for the Tag Team #1 contendership! How will the SmackDown superstars position themselves heading into No Mercy?

Find out what happens at 8 pm Eastern/5 pm Pacific this Thursday night on UPN!

Did somebody say...pie?

:D seriously though, I kind of agree with you at this point. I'm getting into the thick of some of the storylines on RAW that I'd been planning since the start of this game, and SmackDown has been a bit further behind but I still have a great deal of story to get across on SD. There's gonna be some awesome stuff (I think) on SmackDown very soon and I promise you guys will like it a lot.

Londrick
vs.
Mysterio and Kidman
vs.
The Basham Brothers
vs.
Elijah Burke and Montel Porter

This was a very hotly contested opening matchup, and all eight men put on a solid contest. This was an elimination-style bout, and the first team out was the Basham Brothers after Kendrick surprised Danny with the Sliced Bread #2! After a lot of fast-paced, athletic action, Brian Kendrick was caught with a 6-1-9 into a Playmaker by Porter! The final teams squared off with Kidman hitting a Shooting Star Press to Burke, winning the #1 contendership for his team!

Their celebration is cut short by the music of
Muhammad Hassan
, who comes to the top of the ramp along with his manager,
Daivari
. Hassan has a microphone and he slowly claps for the winners. He congratulates them on their victory, but speculates as to why the
undefeated
team of Muhammad Hassan and Khosrow Daivari was not invited to participate in the Tag Team Turmoil? There were African-Americans, Mexican-Americans...but no Arab-Americans. Hassan says that no matter how hard the WWE tries to keep him down, he will rise up and
crush
those who cross his path.

In the back,
Bryan Lloyd
is interviewed about his main event match tonight with the former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar. Lloyd takes a deep breath and admits that yes, tonight's going to suck, but Bryan reassures everyone that he's proven people wrong time and time again since he came to the WWE a couple of months ago, and this is a chance for him to throw his name in the hat for a title shot. Lesnar might be big, he might be bad, but Bryan Lloyd says that he's going to be the David to bring down the Goliath right here tonight!

Stevie Richards w/Dawn Marie ©

Some might call it luck, others skill, but what matters is the fact that Stevie Richards has been a very successful inaugural Television Champion. That fact held up in this one as he looked impressive in finishing off the talented Super Crazy with the Stevie Kick.

Eddie Guerrero
vs.
Charlie Haas w/Lance Storm

Before he could worry about Bradshaw, however, Eddie had a tall task in front of him - out-wrestling the two-time Big East wrestling champion. Haas seemed to have this one well in hand when Guerrero turned an armbar into an Oklahoma Roll to turn the tides. Though it was unsuccessful, Eddie used his momentum to hit the Three Amigos followed by the Frog Splash for a big victory.

Very emotional,
Eddie
started a big celebration. As he received his WWE Title, he called for a microphone too. In a very heated and passionate tone, Eddie says that if Brock Lesnar wants some, he can have it,
holmes

Rene Dupree

King Dupree once again entered ringside with his scepter, crown, and royal cape, but they all went flying as Big Show punched him in the mouth. Kurt Angle was on commentary for this one and continually trashed Big Show verbally as the match wore on. Dupree had had enough about ten minutes in, and after exerting more effort than he wished to, he rolled out of the ring and started backwards up the ramp. This prompted Booker T to hit ringside and roll him back in the ring! Dupree was shocked as he turned around into a Chokeslam and Big Show made the cover for the three count!

The Colons
are backstage cutting a promo for Josh Mathews when
Jamie Noble and Nunzio
cut them off. Nunzio says that the Colons aren't the best 'familia' on SmackDown, that goes to the
cugini
, Noble and Nunzio. Carlito wants them to meet in the ring, but Noble says that he's got a better idea...they'll see the Colons next week!

A graphic reminds us that our main event --
Bryan Lloyd
vs.
Brock Lesnar
-- is NEXT!

Bryan Lloyd
vs.
Brock Lesnar

The effort that Lloyd gave in the Kurt Angle challenge -- multiply that by ten to get how close this matchup was. Lloyd surprised Brock at every turn, stiff kicks that lit his chest red, surprising enough strength to hit a variety of different suplexes, and the agility to blast Lesnar with high flying moves including a front missile dropkick. He tried to lock in the Cattle Mutilation, but Brock was just too strong, and Lloyd ended up being caught with an F-5 for a harder-than-anticipated victory for the #1 contender.

After the bell,
Lesnar
starts to take his frustrations out on
Lloyd
and is soon joined by
Luther Reigns
. The two monsters are in the process of putting Bryan out for good, when
Eddie Guerrero
hits the ring with a steel chair in hand! He swings it wildly around the ring, connecting with the arm of Reigns as Heyman's soldiers retreat back up the ramp! Guerrero wants more, but helps Lloyd to his feet as Cole and Tazz tell us to tune in next week!

WWE Unforgiven

Shelton Benjamin
vs.

How We Got Here:
Each man has shown respect for the other over the past few weeks, but that ends here at Unforgiven. This one consists of two men fighting over the prestigious Intercontinental Championship. Which man walks out with the belt?

Tables Match

The Dudley Boyz
vs.
La Resistance ©

How We Got Here:
A few weeks back, La Resistance used their Canadian flag to get in pole position to poach the Tag Titles from the Dudley Boyz. A rematch has been agreed to in the Dudleyz' lair -- a Tables match! Can the brash young superstars beat the Denizens of Dudleyville at their own game?

Ric Flair
vs.
Batista

How We Got Here:
After Evolution viciously turned on "The Nature Boy" the night after SummerSlam, Flair has wanted a piece of his former group. He'll be able to get his hands on his former tag team partner, "The Animal" Batista as they lock up at Unforgiven! Will the Nature Boy lay a beating on his former protege?

Lita w/Mickie James ©
vs.
Victoria

How We Got Here:
This one's a SummerSlam rematch, and Victoria's kidnapping of Mickie James has secured her another title shot at Lita. Can Lita deter Victoria from taking away her Women's Championship?

Jeff Hardy and Rob Van Dam
vs.
Christian and Tyson Rude w/Trish Stratus

How We Got Here:
Christian and his "Problem Solver," Tyson Rude, have been engaging in rivalries with both RVD and Jeff Hardy as of late, and the two high-fliers have joined forces to take on the Canadians along with Trish Stratus. Will "Mr. Money in the Bank" be able to survive a relentless high-flying attack?

Chris Benoit
vs.
Randy Orton

How We Got Here:
Despite his opponent's allegiance with Evolution, "The Rabid Wolverine" has admitted an appreciation for the 24-year-old's talents. He challenged Orton to a match and dared him to fight him fairly - with no help from Batista or Triple H and also without getting himself disqualified or counted out. Orton has agreed; will he stay true to his word?

60-Minute Iron Man Match

Shawn Michaels ©
vs.
Triple H

How We Got Here:
Nothing else needs to be said. "The Final Chapter" in this rivalry will conclude at Unforgiven. After battering each other in an endless amount of stipulation matches, these two will do battle for 60 minutes as decreed by Mr. McMahon and this will finally end the discussion as to who the better wrestler is.

World Heavyweight Championship

60-Minute Iron Man Match

Shawn Michaels © vs. Triple H

Comment: Shawn JUST won the belt, he may as well keep it for a month or so.

Grudge Match

Chris Benoit vs. Randy Orton

Comment: Orton could make a really good next challenge for Shawn, or stay strong here to keep up a feud with Taker.

Rob Van Dam and Jeff Hardy vs. Christian and Tyson Rude w/Trish Stratus

WWE Women's Championship

Lita w/Mickie James © vs. Victoria

World Tag Team Championship

Tables Match

The Dudley Boyz vs. La Resistance ©

Comment: Dudleyz drop the rematch, likely due to some shenanigans.

WWE Women's Championship

Lita w/Mickie James © vs. Victoria
