WWE SmackDown!
Thursday, Week 3, November 2004

The opening video, backed by "Rise Up" performed by Drowning Pool plays as Michael Cole and Tazz greet us from ringside. Paul Heyman has promised a major announcement here tonight-- wait, here he is!

RATING:
75 (B-)

Notes
: None.

____________________________________________

Paul Heyman
walks out to the ring with a scowl on his face alongside
Brock Lesnar
and
Luther Reigns
. Heyman has the crew cut the music as he's on his way to the ring with a microphone. He asks if the audience
liked
what happened last Sunday at Survivor Series to his team. The crowd gives a thunderous cheer as Heyman smirks, and he asks if they liked seeing Eddie Guerrero "overcome the odds" once again...and another thunderous cheer erupts. Paul says that's all well and good, but he doesn't think they're going to like his announcement here tonight. Paul says that this all began because he sought to protect the integrity of his show by disallowing a cheating, lying, criminal to disparage the prestige of the WWE Championship, but at this point, Eddie Guerrero is just pissing him off. And that's why, in four short weeks at Armageddon, Paul is going to bring back a concept that has only occurred once before in the history of the WWE, four short years ago. Mr. Heyman says that the WWE Championship will be defended against five other men inside the single most brutal structure ever envisioned in wrestling history. Eddie Guerrero will put his WWE Championship on the line in a six-man Hell in a Cell at Armageddon!

He adds that since his hands are tied because of Mr. McMahon and the Board of Directors, in the interest of fairness, there
will
be qualifying matches for Hell in a Cell. And yes, Eddie Guerrero will get to choose a competitor for each qualifying match. However, the man to his left, Brock Lesnar, is exempt from a qualifying match, because let's face it - he doesn't need to prove anything, now does he? No one on this roster can stand up to Brock Lesnar, and that's why he's going to be the one to walk out of Armageddon with the WWE Championship. Heyman drops the mic as his cohorts flash evil smiles, walking out of the ring.

RATING:
99 (A*)

Notes
: He's one of the best at controlling the crowd.

Armageddon Hell in a Cell Qualifier

Rhyno
vs.
John "Bradshaw" Layfield w/The Cabinet

Cole and Tazz hype the fact that this Hell in a Cell announcement has indeed shook the foundation of SmackDown and that one of these two men will advance to challenge for the WWE Championship in four weeks! The Cabinet was tossed from ringside for repeated distractions about midway through the match, leaving Bradshaw alone! Rhyno looked to be in complete control as the cowardly JBL begged for one second to regroup, and he planted Bradshaw with a belly-to-belly suplex! He crouched in the corner as a groggy JBL began to stand up, and with the crowd chanting 'Gore,' Rhyno was tripped up by someone from the outside! Before he could put together who it was, he turned around right into the Clothesline From Hell! JBL covers - 1, 2, 3! Bradshaw gets a shot at the WWE Title at Armageddon!

JBL smiles toward the area where Rhyno was tripped as
Lance Storm and Charlie Haas
reveal themselves, walking around and to the back while Bradshaw's hand is raised!

RATING:
80 (B)

Notes
: These two brawlers put on a really nice opener, keeping this HIAC storyline pretty hot.

After a short commercial break, Josh Mathews is in the back with
Eddie Guerrero
, asking his thoughts about the predicament he's been placed in at Armageddon.

Eddie says that Heyman's tried so hard to come after him for the last few months, but Paul won't break him,
holmes
. He doesn't care if Heyman likes it or not, but if it means keeping the WWE Title, Eddie's gonna lie...he's gonna cheat...and he's gonna steal,
ese
! He's interrupted by a beaming
JBL
, who steps into the frame. He tells Eddie to keep that belt away from his weekend cockfights in Mexico because a real American leader is going to bring the championship home at Armageddon. And not only an American leader...but a "Wrestling....
God
."

RATING:
84 (B+)

Mysterio and Kidman w/Torrie Wilson ©
vs.
Jamie Noble and Nunzio

This one was actually a decent match, with Noble and Nunzio showing some hunger for the Tag Titles, but Kidman ended it with a Shooting Star Press to Nunzio for a successful title defense.

RATING:
64 ©

Backstage,
John Cena
knocks on the locker room door of
Ron Simmons
. Cena congratulates Simmons on being a regular SmackDown member again, and Ron thanks him for his help in wresting his freedom away from Bradshaw. As John walks away from the door and down the hall, he's cracked with a forearm by
Scott Steiner
! "Big Poppa Pump" throws Cena into the wall and starts screaming at him, landing a couple of kicks to the ribs. Steiner says he's the one that made that US Title famous and he wants it back! He spits toward Cena, calling him a 'friggin punk' and he walks away.

Hardcore Holly
vs.
Chuck Palumbo

In his first match back after an assault at the hands of the Lords of the Ring, Holly had a little bit of an extra bite here in this one. He pummeled Palumbo for a great deal of the bout, finishing it with the Alabama Slam.

RATING:
66 (C+)

hits and he comes out to the ring and grabs a microphone. Lloyd says that he planned on sorting out his commitments to his Survivor Series team and then coming after Hassan for real, but Muhammad just couldn't wait, now could he? Now if Hassan wants a fight, he's got one at Armageddon! Just a word of advice though - Hassan shouldn't think he has a chance when he's standing across from Lloyd in the ring and all he hears is thousands of people chanting
U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!

Bryan then points his fingers to the sky and
, starting a
U...S...A
chant ringing through the crowd! His music hits again, and he leaves the area with no confrontation from Hassan.

RATING:
55 (C-)

Notes
: His USA chant worked, but was the only thing that saved this segment from completely killing the crowd.

Scotty 2 Hotty w/Rikishi
vs.
Matt Hardy ©

With the fans firmly in the corner of Scotty 2 Hotty, he was able to use them to his advantage. He gave the champ a run for his money, even hitting The Worm, but Hardy rolled out of the ring to regroup, eventually finishing Scotty with a Twist of Fate.

RATING:
69 (C+)

Notes
: A nice match considering Scotty's firm jobber status.

____________________________________________

Josh Mathews is walking through the back, trying to catch up with
Edge
, who's by himself walking down the hall. Edge refuses to answer at first, but after a bit of pestering, he just turns to tell Josh that he doesn't care who he has to face to get there, he doesn't care how it has to happen inside Hell in a Cell, but he's going to become WWE Champion at Armageddon!

RATING:
86 (B+)

Booker T
vs.
Scott Steiner

These former WCW rivals took part in a nice battle here, with "Big Poppa Pump" picking up the win after a low blow and the Steiner Flatliner.

After the match, Steiner looks to send a message to John Cena by continuing a beatdown on the former five-time WCW Champion. Before it can get too heinous, the US Champion
John Cena
hits the ring! He avenges the unprovoked attack from earlier, fending Steiner off as "Big Poppa Pump" heads to the back. There's a commercial break before the main event!

RATING:
73 (B-) / 88 (B+)

Notes
: Say what you want about Steiner, but he seems to be a nice character foil for Cena.

hits and
Kurt Angle
makes his way out to the ring for his qualifying match against a so-far-unnamed opponent. To a chorus of "You Suck" chants, Angle gets in the ring and begins to stretch, focusing on the ramp area for the arrival of his opponent...

Armageddon Hell in a Cell Qualifier

Big Show
vs.
Kurt Angle

In his first action since No Mercy, where Angle left him with a severely injured ankle, Big Show made his shocking return and Kurt couldn't believe it! Angle was able to work over the injury he caused at No Mercy, but it wasn't enough to keep Big Show down. Show kept coming back, looking for revenge and for a spot inside Hell in a Cell to challenge for the WWE Championship. They went at it outside the ring, where Big Show was handling "The Olympic Hero." After a vertical suplex on the outside, Show rolled Angle in the ring with the referee at an eight count. He found trouble getting back in the ring --
Storm and Haas
were under the ring again, holding onto one tree-trunk leg each! Show can't react in time - he's counted out! Kurt Angle qualifies by count-out to the Hell in a Cell match!

As the bell rings, Big Show pulls Haas by the hair out from under the ring and Lance Storm comes out as well! Show tosses them around ringside, but Kurt regains his composure and hits a baseball slide to the big man! The three roll him in the ring as Angle hits the Angle Slam! He removes the straps of his wrestling gear to lock in the Ankle Lock, but the lights go out!
The Undertaker's
voice is heard - he wants in Hell in a Cell! When they come back on, "The Phenom" is in the ring, and after a couple of haymakers, Angle and Co. get out of Dodge! The Undertaker stands tall as he fends off Big Show's assailants, clearly wanting to get his hands on members of the Survivor Series team after his early exit!

RATING:
77 (B) / 91 (A) / 77 (B)

Notes
: Great main event!

WWE RAW Preview: Week 4, November 2004

http://i.imgur.com/3HPbZ94.jpg

WWE RAW
Monday, Week 4, November 2004

With only five RAWs left in 2004, how will the landscape shift following Survivor Series? Last week, Stephanie McMahon was taken to the hospital following what seemed like a brutal assault which also left Batista and Randy Orton down! Is it connected to the 'path of annihilation' that Kane has promised? How will the Money in the Bank briefcase play into the feud between new #1 contender Christian and "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels?

This doesn't even include the in-ring matchups here tonight: Johnny Nitro defends his Intercontinental Title, we have a Survivor Series rematch with Mickie James taking on Trish Stratus, and Randy Orton takes on Chris Benoit in the main event!

Don't miss all the action; tune in to Spike TV at 9pm EST/6pm PST!

Some interesting things developing on both shows. The whodunit with Stephanie is a good one. Could it be leading to a face turn for Hs? Or will this story make him more of a bastard than ever?

Heyman bringing back the Armageddon cell match makes a lot of sense given how much he hates Eddie. It also creates a lot of intrigue and opens up the possibility of Eddie dropping the title, which I previously thought wouldn't happen until Mania at the earliest.

But as much as I'm looking forward to that, I'm also interested in seeing how you do the Lloyd/Hassan match! On one hand, you have the hugely talented Lloyd who could do with a big PPV win against someone like Hassan to kickstart his inevitable push (With a name like Lloyd, he's going to put bums in seats!) - but then there's Hassan. Who could have been a HUGE star if they didn't go too far with his character and he got banned from TV :D :D haha!

WWE Monday Night RAW: Week 4, November 2004

WWE RAW
Monday, Week 4, November 2004

Jim Ross welcomes us to the program as, for another week, "The Coach" is seated to his right, replacing Jerry "The King" Lawler, who is still out of commission after an attack by Kane last week. Coachman is happy to provide some real relevance and personality to the table, which JR chastises him for saying. He asks him to have some respect and not kick "The King" while he's down, before running down the action we have on tap tonight.

To kick off the show,
The Rock
hits the ring unexpectedly! "The Great One" soaks in the adoration of the fans before grabbing a microphone. Finally...The Rock...has come back...to Columbus,
Ohiiiiii-yo
! He jokes, saying that the fans didn't really think The Rock was gone for good after Survivor Series, did they? He says that once again, The Rock stole the show by eliminating Triple H from the Survivor Series match and even though that silver spoon jabroni Randy Orton caught The Rock from behind, do not fear because "The Great One" is here to layeth the smack down once again! It may not be this week, or next week, but The Rock will whoop some Evolution candy ass, if ya smellllll....what The Rock is cookin'!

The Golden Globes w/Stacy Keibler
vs.
The Aristocracy

Venis and Goldust looked good in this one, but they weren't able to overcome the Aristocracy, who were victorious after Venis tapped out to the Regal Stretch.

After the match,
Kane
makes his entrance and Regal and Warlock hit the road straight through the crowd. Venis is still down in the ring as Goldust tends to him. Goldust catches a big boot as Kane picks up Val from the ground and lands a Chokeslam! He backs Stacy into the corner as she cowers; "The Big Red Machine" laughs and goes to attack her, but Goldust grabs her leg and pulls her out. Goldust and Stacy run up the ramp carrying Val as Kane stands in the ring.

Bubba Ray Dudley w/D-Von
vs.
Johnny Nitro © w/Melina

In perhaps Nitro's toughest title defense yet, he was up against a tough brawler in Bubba Ray. Dudley controlled a lot of this one, as the champion seemed to move in reverse, trying to go outside the ring to catch his breath on multiple occasions. D-Von rolled him back in the ring and Bubba looked for the Bubba Cutter to become champion, but on the outside a fracas began. The Widow Makers hit the ring and started to lay a beatdown on D-Von, which allowed Nitro to capitalize on the distraction with the corkscrew neckbreaker for the win!

RATING:
80 (B)

Notes
: It might have been cool to see one of the Dudleyz with the belt, though.

Mickie James
vs.
Trish Stratus w/Tyson Rude

Unlike their match at Survivor Series, Trish controlled this one from the get-go. Also unlike their previous encounter, Mickie caught Trish with a flurry and a roll-up for the upset win!

With Mickie's hand being raised, Trish attacked from behind! Tyson Rude got into the ring to assist her malicious beatdown, but
Lita and Jeff Hardy
hit the ring from the back to break up the attack! Jeff sent Rude packing after Lita hit Poetry in Motion off his back and Trish retreated, smiling and motioning for the Women's Title.

Shawn Michaels
vs.
Robert Conway w/Sylvain Grenier

"Captain Charisma" was on commentary for this one, scouting out his opponent. Whenever Jim Ross prodded him about when he was going to fight Michaels, Christian said when he's done studying Shawn's moves and cheap tactics because he's gotta be ready for everything. He called himself a 'student of the game,' and he got a lesson in greatness because Michaels and Conway put on a phenomenal match. It concluded with Conway looking for a flying crossbody, but the champion caught him with Sweet Chin Music for the win!

RATING:
91 (A)

Notes
: Two straight weeks, Conway has been involved in an A-rated match, but I think this one especially was more on the sizzling HBK.

After a commercial break,
hits as a man crouches at the top of the ramp, draped in a covering of some sort. At cues in the music, the man stands up, revealing his physique as he poses with pyro fizzling up in the background. He makes his way down to the ring as Coach praises the 'unveiling' of
"The Masterpiece" Chris Masters
. Masters gets into the ring and grabs a microphone while Ross runs down his credentials - he's 6'4, 275 pounds and he's just 22 years old!

Masters introduces himself as "The Masterpiece" and says that he's here on RAW with a challenge. He says that he's going to pull a chair in the ring for anyone in the crowd to attempt to break his unbreakable Masterlock submission hold. He asks for volunteers as a slender, muscular-looking man in the third row near ringside enters the ring assisted by security. His name is Scott, and he thinks he can break the Masterlock. Scott sits down in the chair and Masters locks in a Full Nelson. The man struggles a bit and tries to spring up to create momentum, but Masters holds on and starts to swing Scott back and forth with immense force. Eventually, Scott falls to a knee and Masters puts more power and torque into the move, forcing Scott to give up. "The Masterpiece" smirks as he tosses his victim aside, posing as the commentators hype him up some more.

RATING:
73 (B-)

Notes
: A good rating because JR and Coachman did a great job talking about him.

Todd Grisham stands by with the Intercontinental Champion,
Johnny Nitro
along with Melina as he questions him about The Hurricane's challenge last week. Nitro initially laughs, saying that The Hurricane was joking, and that there's no way he could
actually
think he's going to get a title shot. As Nitro is yammering on about how he won't defend against such a lowly opponent,
The Hurricane
(along with
Rosey
, the S.H.I.T.) appears onscreen! He prods Nitro for a shot at the IC belt, and after he gets shot down again, Hurricane tells Nitro that he only has one other thing to say to him then. He pulls his cape in front of his face, spins around in a circle, and yells "Hurri-
SLAP!
" as he rocks Nitro across the face with an open palm! Hurricane walks away as Nitro stands there, embarrassed and being tended to by a scowling Melina!

RATING:
77 (B)

Chris Benoit
vs.
Randy Orton w/Batista

This match was sure to have bearings on who would get the next title shot after Christian and Shawn Michaels completed their match, and it had that 'big match' feel despite nothing being on the line. Orton and Batista, sans Triple H for the night, looked to coexist despite cracks shown in Evolution over the past few weeks. It proved fruitless, as a miscommunication led to Orton getting locked in the Crippler Crossface and forced to submit!

After the match, Benoit celebrates his victory in the win, knowing it's put him one step closer to a title shot. On the outside of the ring, Orton and Batista are screaming at each other, leading to Orton pushing him and walking away! Our show ends with Batista on the outside of the ring, Benoit celebrating, and "The Legend Killer" yelling at himself as he heads to the backstage area!

RATING:
84 (B+) / 84 (B+)

Notes
: None.

OVERALL SHOW RATING:

Notes
: A pretty solid show overall, with Michaels once again being the highlight. Nothing too crazy happened here, but pieces are definitely moving.

Comment: Huh. I could actually see Dupree getting the win via shenanigans, but I'm gonna go ahead and take the safer pick here.
