Bird Years: The NBA Career of Larry Bird

This will be a dynasty where I play as my favorite team the Boston Celtics starting in 1980, the second year in Larry Bird's career. There are a few reasons I chose to start in this year instead of his rookie season. 1. There's not much more he could have done his rookie year. 2. I prefer starting in a new decade. 3. The additions to the roster (namely McHale and Parish)

<p>One word to describe the season so far? OUCH! Larry suffered a bulging disc against Philly in the 4th game and McHale got a concussion and was d2d for 22 days, the SAME GAME! Archibald got a minor injury less than a month later, then on 1/22,1/24 and 1/26 McHale, Archibald and Parish all got injured for at least 30 days each(Parish for 60!) So only 2 of our regular starters (Bird and Henderson) are playing at all right now, and for about a month still. Keep in mind we have 11 total guys on the roster including the injured ones, and there's only one free agent (there were none when I started).</p><p> </p><p>

<p>McHale and Parish were finally fully healthy by the 3/01 game against Phoenix and the only person to suffer a major injury since then was Robey again with a foot fracture. He'll be out the first 24 days of the playoffs unfortunately. Also, apparently there were byes in the playoffs back in the day... It is so weird looking back and seeing how many of them actually became coaches later on. Kevin, Bird, M.L. Carr, Chris Ford sort of like the Celtics from the 50's and 60's.

Most long term successful NBA teams end up with a couple guys eventually being head coaches or a GM, but to have that many from one team and the same time period is pretty weird.
