Canadian Classic #001

Location:
Canadian Air Centre

Attendance:
14, 043

Rating:
B- (77)

Announcers:
Tommy London
[Announcer]
; Tom Townsend
[Colour]

The show begins with a pan of the brand new set up. It shows a new large screen at the top of the ramp which is raised up to the height of the ring. The ring itself has a black mat and has the WWA: Canada logo in the middle. The top and bottom ropes are red and the middle one is white. The buckles are black and the ring-skirt has the WWA logo on two side, the Canada specific WWA logo on another and the words Canadian Classic on the hard-camera side. We then pan along the steel guardrails looking at the audience before we see the commentators sat behind a brand new, WWA branded announcer's desk.

Tom Townsend then introduces the show, telling fans that for those who haven't heard to check out worldwrestlingalliance.com after the show for more information, as well as exclusive highlights from the press conference and to see selected footage from other WWA member's television shows.

Tommy London talks about how Jeremy Stone has signed up and NOTBPW has been rebranded as WWA: Canada, which promises the same world-class wrestling with the addition of the greatest network of workers in professional wrestling's history. What this means is that Canada's finest will be joined by elite competitors from the United States, Mexico, Australia and the United Kingdom. He says that this promises a more dynamic and diverse situation which can only benefit the fans of this company and professional wrestling as a sport.

Tom Townsend says that since the announcement Jeremy Stone has been busily putting together a match card tonight, that will showcase everything that our company has to offer, as more eyes than ever before tune onto our show. For the first time ever he introduces the audience to Canadian Classic – Live on CBN!

London then makes comment on the show planned for tonight, including the main event of Sean McFly & Duane Stone vs. The Can-Am Blondes, as well as up next an “Alliance Showcase” match with Brent Hill representing the United States and Pirata Malvado of WWA: Mexico.

Alliance Showcase Match...

[Representing WWA: America] Brent Hill vs. [Representing WWA: Mexico] Pirata Malvado

The first match of the new brand saw 2 “outsiders” face off, as veteran American Brent Hill, took on the young Mexican Pirata Malvado. As the two men made their way to the ring, the commentators made note of the new ramp, which they said give a slightly different feel to the broadcast. In particular, giving off the atmosphere that the two competitors are going directly and assertively into an intense competition, which they were sure this would be.

The match didn't disappoint in that aspect and despite his unknown status to the audience, Pirata Malvado gave a very good display of himself, using his pace and agility to his advantage against the well-known veteran Hill.

As the match went on, it seemingly shifted into the favour of Hill who expertly broke down the game plan of Pirata Malvado, seemingly tying him into knots on the mat, with an impressive array of holds and submissions. Showing a great deal of heart, the young Mexican refused to give up and in the end, this resilience paid off as he caught Hill, during a rare lapse in concentration, and rolled him up with a Small Package for the surprising victory. After the match the commentators put over that a mistake from such a well-regarded and respected competitor in Hill is a rare sight, but said that Pirata Malvado's ability and awareness to take advantage of the briefest opportunity can not be underplayed.

Result:
Pirata Malvado
[MEX]
wins by flash pinfall.

The commentators then comeback to talk about the main event of tonight's show, as Duane Stone and Sean McFly team up against The Naturals. They note how tonight is the last time that the NOTBPW Canadian Championship will be seen, as next week a brand new WWA: Canadian Championship will be presented to the man himself by Jeremy Stone. This introduces a pre-taped video package from Jeremy Stone...

The package begins with Jeremy Stone in a suit and shades. While this image usually conveys arrogance or an over inflated ego, Stone appears as someone who is relaxed and assured of himself. He does however, take off the glasses in the fairly dimly lit room that he is sat in alone to addresses the audience. He speaks in a relaxed way, with every word he says sounding assured and authoritative.

“I've been asked a lot of questions... and you know, I understand the concerns. In fact, I wouldn't want it any other way. Our fans are the greatest fans in the world, I know that – and so do you. I'm not one for words, as a wrestler I let my actions do the work and as president of NOTBPW I did exactly the same for all of my wrestlers. Sometimes though, there are situations that the fans deserve to know about... this is one of them. For a long, long time our company has had a winning formula. To be the best, strongest and most competitive wrestling on the planet. Every day that a Stone name has been above the door of this place that has been the objective of our company. In the last few months I came to an agreement with British Businessman Dunton Hall to join his World Wrestling Alliance as a founding member – an alliance that reached out to other promotions who are also intent on being the best. While we are a part of this larger conglomerate, our individual image and vision remains in tact... in fact that is exactly what makes this venture the most exciting we'll ever take.

Any business is built on it's drive and commitment to creating an atmosphere that appeals to it's audience. We value every single piece of feedback we receive and that's the reason I joined the WWA. You see, change is a strange thing, something we're all afraid to embrace at times but nonetheless an essential part of growing and becoming better. Some were unsure of the WWA, wondering whether their goals are not the same as ours. As I said earlier, our company is based on honour, respect, competition and most importantly hard work. These core principle will not only remain at the heart of our promotion but are in fact the very foundation for the entire World Wrestling Alliance.

The opportunities that will present themselves to us in the near and distant future are nothing short of industry changing – revolutionary prospects and opportunities that can only serve to improve and enhance your viewing experience... can only lead to a sharp step up in competition, a fresh drive and determination in all of our athletes, and the greatest professional wrestling not only in out country or region but in the history of this sport. I pride myself on my honesty and my belief that the faith of the fans must be repaid, so when I say this, I say it in the most sincere way possible. Professional wrestling has changed, we have been a part of that change and we all have tonight, been a part of history. Everybody that is a part of this broadcast is a pioneer of a new era... be prepared to be blown away as the World Wrestling Alliance takes
wrestling
to the next level...”

Stone gets up from his seat and leaves the room, at which point we return to the commentators.

Tommy London says that any doubt about the future of this company should have been put to bed there, and now is the time for the wrestlers to produce on those promises. Tom Townsend then points out how he felt every word Jeremy Stone said came from the heart – noting that Jeremy doesn't speak often, but the fact he did tonight shows a supreme confidence in the industry changing decision he has made. Adding that changing a winning formula is a risk that had not been taken lightly. London then says that up next it is time to get back to wrestlers the audience are more familiar with as Tim Westybrook defends his Television Championship.

<div style=" border: 2px solid darkred";">

Television Championship Match...

Tim Westybrook © vs. Lord James King

The commentators pointed out how these two competitors could not be any different, comparing the silver-spoon fed, snobby aristocrat to the never say die, hard working, every man who has earned every break and opportunity he has been given. As Tim took control of the match, Tom Townsend made note that LJK's “superior” bloodline may not have been able to pass down the raw strength that Tim Westybrook has work his whole life for. Tommy London also mentioned that in all his years as an announcer and as a part of this business he had never seen anybody as dedicated to self-improvement than the Television Champion.

This was evident in the match, and in truth this was a fairly once sided affair overall as Tim Westybrook hit King from all corners, sending the aristocrat into a shell which came across as a case of damage limitation. As a result of this, Tim perhaps let the match go on longer than it should have, but made sure he had his man down when he hit him with the “TNT Whirlwind”.

After the match the commentators marvel at the performance of Tim Westybrook, pointing out how he has the mentality that embodies what WWA: Canada is all about. A mentality that is shared by Sean McFly and Duane Stone, who face The Can-Am Blondes later in the show.

This segues into a backstage interview with The Can-Am Blondes. Tim Weightman stands by with the former two time Tag Team Champions, who are ready for their main event match later tonight. Tim asks the pair why they have been so outspoken about their desire to embarrass Sean McFly at the time when more eyes than ever are on the Canadian Champion.

As with every Can-Am Blondes promo The Natural (who is the mouthpiece of the pair, with Owen Love rarely saying more than a few words) begins with his catchphrase “I got this”. The Natural explains that Sean needs to learn to lighten up and not take himself so seriously. He says that it's nothing personal but it's a fairly simple equation. He then spells it out to Weightman, saying it in a condescending tone, designed to make Tim appear stupid. He says that this company is going Global! They are now part of the biggest wrestling conglomerate on the planet, of all time. This means to The Natural that this place needs Superstars. The Natural says he and his partner have the ability, the charisma and the looks that mean
them
and not The Stone-McFly family should be front and centre of any promotion material for the new dawn. He also realises that this won't be given away, since The Stones don't like doing anything to anybody who isn't “one of them”. That's why he believes they need to send a message – a simple yet clear message that can not be ignored or brushed to the side. That's why tonight they need to put such a beating on Sean McFly, and his partner Duane Stone, that even the “backward” fans in Canada... and now the rest of the World, know that (at which point Owen Love takes over, uttering his catchphrase) “Blonde is Better”...

Returning to the commentators once again, London makes reference to the promo, saying that all The Can-Am Blondes need to do to be noticed is win their matches. This however, causes a disagreement with Tom Townsend who is off the opinion that maybe this new start will mean a fair shake of the dice for everybody, noting that he can't remember the last time either of The Can-Am Blondes were given an opportunity this big. London agrees with the last bit, saying that tonight is their chance to back up the words, and if they don't – they can only blame themselves! Another guy who will be given a good opportunity tonight is Jason O'Connor, who has been given a shot at one half of the Tag Team Champions Jared Johnson, in a match that could move them a step closer to regaining the Championships they lost to The Aces last year.

<div style=" border: 2px solid darkred";">

Jared Johnson vs. Jason O'Connor

The commentators noted that on request of the referee, Julian Watson and Robbie McNamara had been banned from ringside for this match. This meant that the match was quite simply a back and forth match between two very talented wrestlers. The young Jared Johnson's lightening pace appeared to be the difference between the two at one point but Jason O'Connor used his experience to allow him to dictate the tempo of the match. This led to frustration to build for Jared Johnson, who the commentators noted as having a short temper and his inexperience showed as he went to the top rope in an attempt to build momentum but ended up costing himself, as he was eventually make to submit to the “Stretch Plum”.

Result:
Jason O'Connor via submission with The Stretch Plum.

Time:
10:06
</div>

After the match, the commentators make comment that after an impressive victory, The Fighting Irish may have just made a case to be number one contenders to the Tag Team Championships.

A video package is then introduced which is another part of the “Alliance Showcase”, this time for WWA: America's “All American Wrestling”. The package shows various inconclusive clips from the previous night's broadcast, encouraging fans to visit
for more information and extended highlights from the first ever show under the World Wrestling Alliance umbrella.

<div style=" border: 2px solid darkred";">

Kinuye Mushashibo vs. Amber Allen

The commentators made sure to put over that a women’s division is an exclusive attribute of WWA: Canada and one that none of the other members have. They said that they have some of the world's greatest female performers with the American Amber Allen and Japan's Kinuye Mushashibo being just 2 of those. They also spoke of how Victoria Stone's influence on the promotion is a big part of why the company has been able to maintain such a high standard. This match was a fairly even match, but it was eventually Kinuye Mushashibo who came out on top, when she hit the “Blue Dream”.

Result:
Kinuye Mushashibo via pinfall with the Blue Dream
[High Speed Roundhouse Kick]

Time:

The commentators then briefly talk about the Women's Champion Lauren Easter before moving straight into the next match.

<div style=" border: 2px solid darkred";">

Harrison Hash vs. Johnny Bloodstone

The history of these two men was put over during the match with Tom Townsend making reference to the fact that the pair were actually close friends and neighbour in the past, with Harrison Hash crediting Johnny Bloodstone with some of his early development as a wrestler. They also talked about their past in NOTBPW, which closed the door on any friendship they may have once had. This was evident throughout the match as the cold, calculated Johnny Bloodstone went to town as clinically and decisive as he would any opponent, giving Harrison Hash only the smallest openings to mount an offence of his own. Hash no doubt gave an impressive and strong showing of himself, but he ultimately struggled, like so many do, to match the intensity of Johnny Bloodstone.

Targeting the back and left arm of Harrison Hash it was clear what the end product in mind was for Bloodstone and after a few attempts which Hash wriggled out of, Bloodstone sat on the back of Hash, wrenching back on his left arm and neck, locking in the “Bloodstone Mutilation” dead centre in the ring. This left Hash no choice but to tell the referee he'd had enough.

Result:
Johnny Bloodstone via Submission with the Bloodstone Mutilation
Modified Single Arm Underhook Camel Clutch

Time:
14:49
</div>

After the match Tom Townsend said that when Johnny Bloodstone is as focussed as he was tonight he is virtually unbeatable. London said he found that hard to disagree with, commenting that Johnny Bloodstone, love him or hate him, has to be considered one of the best technically minded workers in the business.

As they speak, Harrison Hash gets up in the ring – they commend him on his strong showing tonight, saying that he was simply outclassed on the night and has nothing to be ashamed of. As they continue to speak, they are shocked to see John Maverick attack the already hurt Harrison Hash.

As a number of boots from Maverick reign in on Hash, Tom Townsend is quick to suggest that this attack may be the result of Harrison Hash “embarrassing” him with a upset victory on the last TV show of 2012. Maverick continues the attack as Tommy London voices his disgust at Maverick's actions, asserting that tonight of all nights is not one for actions that go completely against everything that WWA: Canada stands for!

As Maverick makes his way up the ramp a hype video plays promoting the first ever WWA pay-per-view.

The video announces that the show will take place in four weeks time and will be called “Global Warning”. It calls it one of the biggest nights in wrestling history as the 5 members of the World Wrestling Alliance come together at an event that will change the industry forever. It promises a previous unseen insight into wrestling culture around the world with several different styles meshing in one melting pot of world-class talent. It says the show is named as such because it is the moment that everybody involved in wrestling will be put on red alert as the World Wrestling Alliance targets domination...

The commentators speak of how they're looking forward to seeing what Jeremy and the other Alliance Member Presidents put together, which segues into the final match with London suggesting that if it's anything like tonight's Main Event it will be can't miss programming.

<div style=" border: 2px solid darkred";">

Duane Stone & Sean McFly vs. The Can-Am Blondes

This match consisted of four excellent workers giving their all, each with something to prove to themselves and everyone else. As expected the match was a heated confrontation with The Natural particularly showing added aggression in his style as the man with a chip on his shoulder had a point to prove. This determination however may have proved somewhat costly, as he did in some areas neglect Owen Love, who could've helped him take control of the match.

Once he found himself in trouble however he had no hesitation in tagging out, allowing a fresh Owen Love to take control of Duane Stone, who had been in the ring for most of the match himself. Love kept Duane in their half of the ring and once The Natural had recovered the team began to use the fluid ability to their advantage, with their experience as a tag team showing through. This isolated Duane, who struggled to reach his partner for a large spell in the match.

He did eventually get to Sean McFly, and as a result brought in a relatively fresh Canadian Champion who took control of The Natural, hitting him with a number of moves that shook him immediately. The rest of the match followed suit and Sean eventually felt it was time for the “Delorean Driver”, as he did Owen Love came into the ring, but Duane Stone quickly tackled him, knocking both of them to the outside through the middle rope. This allowed Sean McFly to hit his finisher, pinning The Natural for the win.

Result:
Sean McFly via pinfall with the Delorean Driver
[spinning Northern Lights Bomb]

Time:
17:02
</div>

After the match, Sean McFly stands tall in the ring holding his Championship in the air as he celebrates his team's victory over The Can-Am Blondes. As he goes to the top rope he is grabbed down by Steve DeColt from behind.

DeColt kicks Sean in the gut and hits him with a Powerbomb dropping him in the middle of the ring. DeColt then take a microphone, standing tall over Sean McFly. DeColt says “that spot is mine” and picks up the NOTBPW Canadian Championship. DeColt says if he has to, he will tear everybody else apart because
this
World belongs to him. The show ends with the NOTBPW Canadian Championship, seen for the last ever time, in the hands of "The Outsider" Steve DeColt...

The show begins with Tommy London welcoming the fans to the show before telling us that we will begin with the official Championship transfer as the NOTBPW Championship becomes the WWA: Canadian Championship. Before heading to a recap of last week, Tom Townsend makes note that he's not sure this will run as smoothly as we may hope.</span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Franklin Gothic Medium';"> </span></div></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:'Franklin Gothic Medium';">

This leads into a recap of last week when Sean McFly was hit from behind by Steve DeColt who said that this “World” is his. McFly makes his way to the ring, carrying the NOTBPW Canadian Championship around his waist. He shakes hands with Jeremy Stone and takes the Championship from around his waist, looking at it before handing it to Stone. The result for this match was never in question with Townsend even going as far as to say he felt sorry for Hugh. This proved to be a fair concern as John Maverick destroyed Ancrie in a short match. Hugh showed some resilience, but really could not match the dangerous Maverick. Once he had worked the ankle enough, Maverick locked in an Ankle Lock in the centre of the ring and made the youngster tap out. This match started tentatively as the fans were unsure of both. Milk particularly struggled to win over the crowd and his goofy antics didn't quite pop off with the new fans, who are more used to the style of O'Curle. It was O'Curle who they eventually seemed to get behind, as the commentators put over O'Curle as “The UK Stretcher” and spoke of his “unlimited” arsenal of submission holds, also calling him one of the UK's biggest stars and one of the Alliance's most proficient technical foreign wrestlers. After rave reviews for his performance last week, Johnny Bloodstone once again showed why he is a force in the WWA, tying a very good Erik Strong in knots in the ring. Showing the skills to clinically break down an opponent once again, he gave Strong no chance and despite a good fight, eventually got the win. This came when he locked in the Bloodstone Mutilation. The longer the match went on, the bigger the lengths Steve DeColt had to go to, he got to a point where he almost got disqualified after getting in the referees face following a 4 count on the ropes. He did get the win in the end, but surprisingly not by submission – he instead hit a Bridging German Suplex for the win. Townsend was particularly impressed by O'Curle, saying he couldn't wait to have him back in Canada.

Winner: Merle O'Curle via Submission.

Was it such a painful Bridging German Suplex that Milk tapped out before the three count? ¬_¬ :D

Enjoyed the show, especially as the UK beat Australia. :p
