The Phoenix Championship fighting company opened it's doors January 1st, 1998 and started signing fighters at a feverish pace. Fast forwarding to February, 2nd week, we are about to launch the brand with a heavyweight championship tournament.

I will post the results in here....

Heavyweight Tournament (phoenix 1)

1st fight - Jutaro Honma vs Marvin Stevens

Very good short fight as Honma takes Stevens down and pounds him over and over until the ref breaks it up. Honma wins by TKO at 3:09 of the first round.

RATING: Great

2nd fight - Fletcher Merman vs Russell McPhee

After a quick exchange, Merman knocked McPhee down and pounded on him until the ref steps in to stop the fight. Another TKO, this one at 2:36 for the Merman victory.

RATING: Great

3rd Fight - Christopher Sharp vs Stan Blackheath

After Sharp took down Blackheath, he wasn't able to do anything and when the fight was back up, Blackheath caught Sharp with a huge shot and dropped him. The ref stepped in to stop it at 4:42 of the 1st round and Blackheath moves on.

RATING: Good

4th fight - Norman Pike vs Steve Mason

Another quick fight but this time, not too many punches thrown. Pike took Mason down, worked into a good position and submitted Mason at 3:05 of the 1st round.

RATING: Decent

5th fight - Fletcher Merman vs Jutaro Honma

This match was boring, Honma and Merman were basically just holding each other on the mat but Honma did just enough to get the decision to advance to the finals.

RATING: Awful

6th fight - Norman Pike vs Stan Blackheath

Norman Pike took Blackheath down whenever he wanted and finally submitted him at 4:32 of the 2nd round. Pike is in the final.

RATING: Average

7th fight - Heavyweight championship title fight

Jutaro Honma vs Norman Pike

A back and forth fight that could have gone either way, Jutaro Honma was awarded the title after a 5 round decision.

RATING: Average

Overall, this card was ok but could have been a lot better. Critical rating was Decent and Commercial rating was Good so that's not too bad.

Fight of the Night was Merman vs McPhee

KO of the night was Stan Blackheath

Submission of the night was Norman Pike

Light Heavyweight Tournament (Phoenix 2)

This tourney will crown the Light heavyweight champion.

1st fight - Makhak Kirkakosyan vs Neville Granville

After a very ugly first round with fans booing the 2 fighters, Granville went out and knocked out Kirkakosyan with a huge shot at 51 seconds of the 2nd round.

RATING: Good

2nd fight - Guillermo Morales vs Jethro Munter

Morales came out, took down Munter and unloaded on him on the ground for a quick stoppage at 1:20 of the 1st.

RATING: Good

3rd Fight - Geoff Cahill vs Glenn Pimm

Solid back and forth fight until Cahill smacked him with a solid hook and then jumped on him and destroyed him until the ref pulled him off at 2:34 of the 2nd round.

RATING: Decent

4th Fight - Adrian Pascal vs Adrian Swall

Pascal took down Swall right away and just worked him on the ground until the ref had to step in and stop the fight at 3:50 of the 1st round.

RATING: Good

5th fight - Guillermo Morales vs Neville Granville

Morales hit Granville with bombs int he first round and cut him and in the 2nd round, it was more of the same as he dominated until the ref called it at 4:59 of the 2nd.

RATING: Good

6th fight - Adrian Pascal vs Geoff Cahill

Pascal took Cahill down regularly in this fight and finally ended it at 2:59 of the 3rd round by TKO.

RATING: Decent

7th fight - Adrian Pascal vs Guillermo Morales

After a lot of ground fighting and submission attempts, Morales finally got it hooked in to win the Light Heavyweight championship in the 4th round at 2:51.

RATING: Decent

Overall, this was a solid card with some real good fights. Morales should be a good champion as he really was the best fighter of this tourney. Critical and Commercial ratings were both at GOOD

Middleweight Tournament (Phoenix 3)

This is the tourney for the middleweight championship.

1st fight - Drew Jenks vs Edu Gattai

Good fight, both fighter went right at each other and Drew Jenks wins the fight by TKO at 4:43 of the 2nd round.

RATING: Good

2nd fight - Carl Ratcliffe vs Carson Neuwirth

Ratcliffe gets the win in a very good back and forth fight by unanimous decision.

RATING: Great

3rd fight - Augustus Shorrock vs Callum Henson

Henson was all over Shorrock but just couldn't put him away until the 3rd round. He gets the win via TKO at 48 seconds of the 3rd round.

RATING: Average

4th fight - Afonso Romero vs Alex Cole

Cole was solid and just used his speed and striking to stay away from Romero enough to get the win by decision.

RATING: Average

5th fight - Carl Ratcliffe vs Drew Jenks

Ratcliffe and Jenks were throwing punches but not really landing anything until Ratcliffe caught Jenks with a huge right hand. End of the fight by KO at 46 seconds of the 2nd round.

RATING: Decent

6th fight - Alex Cole vs Callum Henson

Cole did a great job of jumping on Henson quickly, taking him to the ground and getting his back before choking him out at 3:38 of the 1st round.

RATING: Great

7th fight - Alex Cole vs Carl Ratcliffe

A long drawn out fight that didn't have a lot of action, Cole outlasted Ratcliffe to get the unanimous decision to win the title.

RATING: Poor

Not the best card for sure but the title was decided. Commercial and Critical rating were both listed as decent.

Lightweight Tournament (Phoenix 4)

Here is the results of the Lightweight Division.

1st fight - Lamont Banner vs Nigel Collett

Lamont Banner made waves in the division by absolutely taking apart Collett in the 1st round at 3:08.

RATING: Good

2nd Fight - Helvechio Babenco vs Hidetada Matsumura

Matsumura knocked out Babenco in the 3rd round with a massive shot at 26 seconds.

RATING: Average

3rd fight - Folke Dalen vs Frankie Geddon

Geddon pounded on Dalen for 2 rounds on the ground and then Dalen came back in the 3rd but Geddon won a unanimous decision.

RATING: Decent

4th Fight - Alain Saul vs Cyril Kamoze (Kamoze said he was winning this fight easily in a PC before the fight)

Ugly fight that Saul won in a split decision over Kamoze after all his hype fell flat

RATING: Poor

5th Fight - Hidetada Matsumura vs Lamont Banner

Another poor fight as Banner TKO's Matsumura in the second round

RATING: Poor

6th Fight - Alain Saul vs Frankie Geddon

Geddon rocked Saul a few times in this fight but just didn't have the finishing ability. He wins by unanimous decision.

RATING: Decent

7th Fight - Frankie Geddon vs Lamont Banner

Banner managed to catch Geddon with a huge shot and knocked him out cold in the first round at 3:30

RATING: Good

Lightweight division is going to hinder us a bit I think after this card.

After all 4 divisions have now had their champions crowned, we can finally get things fully underway.

PHOENIX 5, 1st real card of fights

Here is the first card I put together for the company away from a tournament.

1st fight - Petey Barnum v Phil Ball (Light Heavyweight)

As soon as the bell rang, Barnum walked out to the middle of the cage and was blasted in the head with a devastating kick to the head and a 29 second knockout by Phil Ball.

RATING: Good

2nd fight - Kramer Mayweather vs Tyson RechSlatter (Middleweight)

In a fight that really saw little action and the fans booing, Mayweather wins by unanimous decision.

RATING: Awful

3rd fight - Francis O'Leary vs Joe Hinchcliffe (Middleweight)

Hinchcliffe looked very good against the veteran O'Leary and beat him up pretty bad before knocking him down in the 3rd and pounding him on the ground until the ref stopped the fight at 2:15 of the 3rd round.

RATING: Good

4th Fight - Xavi Castillejo vs Rupert Lennox (Lightweight)

Great fight that had the fans on their feet all fight, Lennox outlasts Castillejo for the 29-28 decision. Probably the best fight I have had in WMMA3 so far with all the talk of the fans and everything.

RATING: Great

5th fight - Pete Shilton vs William Harrision (Light Heavyweight)

Harrision took Shilton down quickly in this one and got him in an armbar for a submission at 1:11 of the first.

RATING: Good

6th Fight - Barry Strachan vs Bob Dozier (Heavyweight)

Dozier was able to outlast Strachan in this one, Dozier gets the win by decision.

RATING: Poor

7th Fight - Milton Harvey vs Grant Shodwart (Heavyweight Main Event)

Shodwart had some great takedowns and in the end looks like why he was able to beat Harvey in a split decision victory.

RATING: Average

Fight of the Night: Lennox v Castillejo

KO of the Night: Phil Ball

Submission of the Night: William Harrison

Overall, a decent card but should have been better. Looking for smaller cards in the future though as money could become a severe problem for the small company.

PHOENIX 6 - Smaller card

Before the fights start, PHOENIX fighters Vincent Chapin and Grant Shodwart will be retiring when they have reached their contractual obligations later this year.

1st fight - Timothy McNally vs Jordan Flintstone (Middleweight)

Flintstone was able to do enough to earn a split decision over McNally in a very ugly fight.

RATING: Very Poor

2nd Fight - Frank Analysis vs Wally Bryant (Heavyweight)

Bryant beats Analysis in a long drawn out fight that didn't have much action at all.

RATING: Poor

3rd Fight - Christopher Sharp vs Russell McPhee (Heavyweight)

Christopher Sharp was great on the ground and after McPhee blocked a few submission attempts, Sharp caught him on the ground and pounded himself into a TKO win at 2:33 of round 2.

RATING: Good

Fight of the Night: Sharp v Mcphee

KO of the Night: Sharp

Submission of the Night: NONE

Not a great card and with 2 ugly fights, it hurt us badly as this was not a success at all. Poor crtitical and Decent Commercial is not good enough for sure.

Phoenix 7

Here is the card that is underway fro Phoenix 7.

1st fight - Owen Oggleberry-Pipp (1-0) vs Rupert Lennox (2-0) (Lightweight)

A decent back and forth standup fight, Lennox outlasted Pipp for the unanimous decision.

RATING: Average

2nd fight - K. Nakata (3-1) vs Ronnie Allen Teller (2-0)

Nakata wins the fight in a boring 3 round decision.

RATING: Poor

3rd fight - Trevor Murray (21-11) vs Neville Granville (2-1)

In a high punching fight, Murray lasted until the end of the fight to score a victory on a unanimous decision.

RATING: Average

4th fight - Jutaro Honma (4-0) vs Chuck Dooley (4-0) for the heavyweight title.

Dooley did enough to survive the first 2 rounds and tire out the champ and in the 3rd round, took him down and pounded on him until the ref stepped in at 2:34 of the 3rd round to win the title from Honma.

RATING: Poor

Fight of the Night: Lennox vs Pipp

KO of the Night: Dooley

I was kinda disappointed with the results of this card, thought they would be better but it is what it is. A good debut of Dooley though as he was just signed away from another promotion.

Phoenix 8

Here is the 8th card put up by Phoenix Fighting.

1st Fight - Norman Pike (18-5) vs Steve Mason (5-1)

Mason wins a decent back and forth fight over Pike by unanimous decision. Pike was a much higher ranked fighter so the board could change quite a bit in the division.

RATING: Average

2nd fight - Adrian Pascal (4=1) vs Geoff Cahill (48-24)

Pascal dominated Cahill right off the start and got him down, took his back and destroyed him until the ref stopped the fight at 2:21 of the 1st round.

RATING: Great

Augustus Shorrock (2-1) vs Carson Neuwirth (14-11)

Shorrock took down Neuwirth and submitted him after he blocked a few attempts at the 3:43 mark of the 1st round.

RATING: Good

Jethro Munter (10-7) vs Toby Sorkin (3-0)

After some ugly rounds in the beginning, Sorkin smacked Munter with a very solid right hook and the ref was forced to stop it at :57 of the 3rd round to save the fight.

RATING: Average

Fight of the Night: Pascal vs Cahill

KO of the Night: Pascal

Submission of the Night: Shorrock

Overall a decent card though again, thought that it would have been better. These cards are not helping me get my popularity up however, was at 44% and dropped to 42.3% before this card.

Phoenix 9

Still kicking off the smallish cards for now, here is Phoenix 9.

Ademir Coelho (8-5) vs Jordan Flintstone (3-0)

Little too late in a flurry at the end of the fight by Coelho as Flintstone did his damage in the first 2 rounds to grind out an unexciting decision.

RATING: VERY POOR

Callum Henson (19-8) vs Carl Ratcliffe (18-5)

Another great showing for Ratcliffe as he weathers a storm and in the second round knocks out Henson with a beautiful head kick at 1:14 of the 2nd round.

RATING: FANTASTIC!

Afonso Romero (6-5) vs Kramer Mayweather (2-0)

Mayweather started very quick and dominated Romero for a very good first round TKO at 2:42

RATING: GREAT

Roope Kuqi (0-0) vs Stan Blackheath (21-10)

**Kuqi was signed as a 4th generation fighter at 17 years old and am trying to see what he is made of quickly though I din't mean for him to be so high up the card.**

Kuqi didn't disappoint anyone with this fight at all as he jumped on blackheath and TKO'd him in the first round. This kid might be a big plus on the early signing.

RATING: GOOD

Alex Cole (10-0) vs Ethan Sutton (5-0) Middleweight Championship fight

Cole was able to defend his title in a split decision but this fight was far closer than it should have been. Sutton fought well but couldn't put Cole away.

RATING: POOR

Fight of the Night: Ratcliffe v Henson

KO of the Night: Ratcliffe

Overall, decent card. Hope it helps my popularity. Need to get bigger.

Phoenix 10

Phoenix 10 card trying to build some mementum. Popularity is back up to 44%. Need a good show here.

Drew Jenks (6-2) vs Francis O' Leary (26-19)

Jenks got O'Leary down early and worked him from the ground until finally catching him in a rear naked choke for the win in the first round at 4:56.

RATING: GREAT

Vincent Chapin (21-14) vs Milton Harvey (32-14)

Chapin took down Harvey quick and tried a few submissions but they didn't work so he turned to the ground and pound and got the TKO at 4:43 of the first round.

RATING: AVERAGE

Greg Atteveld (37-14) vs Edu Gattai (1-1)

The youngster Gattai pulls off a solid victory over Atteveld after a back and forth fight that went the distance. Gattai win by unanimous decision.

RATING: DECENT

Warren Kitt (2-0) vs Tarcisio Dantas (3-0)

Dantas was very good in this fight, showing that he belongs. He TKO'd Kitt in the 2nd round at 4:07 on the ground.

RATING: AVERAGE

Phoenix 11

Some major rumblings around this company as there are major negotiations with fighters around the world.

Barry Strachan (24-16) vs Fletcher Merman (8-3)

Merman out punched Strachan for the decision in a boring fight that the fans let them know about.

RATING: POOR

Marvin Stevens (21-11) vs Frank Analysis (36-20)

Analysis wins over Stevens in another boring decision fight.

RATING: POOR

Joe Hinchcliffe (21-12) vs Tyson Rechslatter (3-2)

Hinchcliffe beats Rechslatter in another decision except this one had a little more action.

RATING: DECENT

Phil Ball (12-5) vs William Harrison (4-0)

Harrison looked good in a submission win with an armbar in the first round.

RATING: GOOD

Lamont Banner (4-0) vs Frankie Geddon (5-1) Lightweight Championship Fight

Banner TKO's Geddon in the 2nd round at 2:28 but this was rated weird for a regulr fight.

RATING: AWFUL

Fight of the Night: Harrison v Ball

Submission of the Night: Harrison

Not sure about the fights and ratings that one, they seemed strange to me but overall the card was a commercial success rated at Good.

State of the Phoenix company

Well, after 11 cards, I have not been able to get above 44% so money is going to get me someday. Things will have to pick up for us but right now, trying to figure out matchups.

We lost out on Junior Pantikin as negotiations broke down and he signed back with Gamma, too bad, he would have been a good one to have. We have signed some could be top guys in a while but they are certainly a work in progress.

NEW HIRES

Carter Potter #8 Heavyweight in the world and a big signing. Should be a contender for the title.

Ademir Coelho 28 year old Middlewieght. Fough once already but didn't look great.

Ethan Sutton 22 year old wrestler looks promising but lost a very close fight vs Alex Cole in his debut.

Roope Kuqi 18 year old that was chased by a few companies before landing with Phoenix. He looked great in his first pro fight.

Tarcisio Dantas Another young guy, 23, looking to make his name with Phoenix. His TKO vs Warren Kitt showed he is ready.

Syed Tan 24th ranked Welterweight is a high level fighter that we were able to secure to fight in the middleweight division. Looks very promising.

Truck Gleeson Truck Gleeson is the only fighter we have that is not exclusive yet. He is ready to step in anytime however and should make an impact in the lightweight division

Seth O'Breen The #7 Lightweight in the world will get an immediate chance to make a Phoenix name for himself as he will get a title shot vs the champ very soon.

Manish Khan #7 Featherweight will be going into the Lightweight division and looks very good. Not with the company quite yet but will be soon and looks to make a name for himself in the new division.

Phoenix 12

Rupert Lennox (3-0) vs Folke Dalen (1-1)

Rupert Lennox and Folke Dalen put on a pretty good show going to distance with Lennox getting the decision.

RATING: GOOD

Jethro Munter (10-8) vs Neville Granville (2-2)

Granville jumped on Munter and beat him up quick for a TKO at 1:04 of the 1st round.

RATING: GOOD

Ethan Sutton (5-1) vs Syed Tan (14-3-1)

Sutton went right through Tan and made his debut a disappointment but Sutton wins by TKO in the 1st round at 4:32.

RATING: GREAT

Alain Saul (2-1) vs Xavi Castillejo (1-1)

Castillejo out dueled Saul for the unanimous decision.

RATING: AVERAGE

Chuck Dooley (5-0) vs Carter Potter (17-4) Heavyweight Title fight

Potter wasn't as good as billed but got the job done with the TKO over Dooley in the 3rd round to win the title.

RATING: POOR

Fight of the Night: Sutton vs Tan

KO of the Night: Potter

Overall was ok but not as good rating wise as I wanted. Only Average for commercial.
