The Ghoul: Dark Avenger

With the demo once again on my computer I thought I would take a crack at a CBH dynasty again. This is going to be a reboot of my Ghoul character, so the first 3 post may seem eerily familiar to any who read that short lived dynasty. Also note, I will be using CBH only as a guide, so how I break down the issues will be different from CBH. Also note that I will be manipulating the other characters, introducing new ones, and moving the game world to fit my vision. Basically, I will be using the setting of CBH and the characters, but not always the actual game. With all that out of the way, the dynasty will truly kick off in a few days, for now enjoy this excerpt from City Sweeper #187...

He is acting on a tip from one of his many sources, but he is starting to have doubts with the lack of activity in the area. City Sweeper has come prepared to take down the newest crime boss in Ravenholme, Ben “Tycoon” Johnson, but now he believes he may have been set up. He is about to call it a night when a black car rolls into the empty parking lot. A pair of large men get out and enter the building as several other stay outside, no doubt watching for people like Sweeper. Just like that it appears the tip about Tycoon was good after all. {How far the mighty have fallen…Just a few months ago this scum bag was telling kids to stay off drugs and do the right thing, all the while supplying himself and half the MMA world with every kind of drug imaginable. What’s worse, he was doing it under orders of that scum bucket Lou Ferrari. I hope you enjoyed your ride to the top Tycoon, because it is going to be a short stay!} City Sweeper lifts his binoculars to his face and peers into the warehouse. He sees a man tied to a chair with Tycoon smacking him around. Tycoon's enforcer Daryl King is leaning up against a wall, almost bored by the proceedings in front of him. {I don’t know who that guy getting beat is, but you don’t need to know a rat’s name to realize it’s a rat. Whatever he did to piss off Tycoon, would probably piss me off even worse. Whatever the reason he is there is not my concern, because this is my chance to get Tycoon while he’s distracted.} City Sweeper picks up the Uzi next to him, hoists his black bag on his shoulder, and runs toward the warehouse. Several thugs try to stop him but each one is shot before they could even pull out their weapons. City Sweeper pulls a chord on his bag, drops it, and heads upstairs. He kicks the door in and points his gun at Tycoon. Before Sweeper can pull the trigger, King unloads a shotgun blast into Sweeper's chest. Sweeper flies back, thanking God he was hit in his body armor and not his exposed head. Tycoon laughs as King kicks the Uzi away from Sweeper's reach and picks Sweeper up. Downstairs, inside a black bag, there are twenty homemade explosives ticking away. Ready to go off at any moment. Daryl tosses City Sweeper aside and grabs Tycoon and leaps out of the nearby window. City Sweeper picks himself up and looks at the bloody mess in the chair and decides there is nothing he can do for the poor slob. Sweeper then dives out the window mere moments before the building blows up. {Consider yourself lucky this time Tycoon, but next time we meet I won’t allow your boxer buddy to keep me from putting a bullet right between your eyes!} City Sweeper runs to a nearby black sedan, hops in, and drives away into the night. He curses himself for not seeing the shotgun King had in his hands. {Sloppy! I had him and let him get away. As soon as I get back home, I'm picking up some better binoculars. I bet Dupin has a high tech pair I can persuade him to give me. } Meanwhile, King and Tycoon are sitting inside a limo heading down a busy street. Tycoon tells King that he needs a way to deal with these so called heroes permanently! Back at the warehouse, a figure is seen pulling himself along the floor out of the wreckage. The figure stands up and we see it appears to be greenish with an almost zombie-like look Catch more of the mysterious figure in The Ghoul: Dark Avenger #0 on sale next week!

Before I post the next actual part of the story, I need to post some other information. I am going to be using renders from the game and from the render threads, so if anyone who rendered the picture isn't happy about my use of your character please let me know and I will remove your picture. Also note, I will be mentioning events that happen outside of The Ghoul comic, so if anyone ever wants to learn more or even write these stories out feel free to let me know. Another thing to know is that despite being set in CBH, not all the heroes/villains are "active" as Ghoul #1. Also, some events in the bios of characters have not happened as of yet. Lastly, some heroes/villains will have altered names or back stories. Now on to the story!

The black heart of the city is The Blue Oyster Bar. Owned by the crime lord Lisping Lou Ferrari, the Blue Oyster Bar is the most wretched hive of scum and villainy in all of Ravenholme. Tonight, like most nights, Lou is in the back room entertaining some local politicians while Joel “Keys” Vercetti plays piano near the bar. Despite playing piano at a crime lord's club, Joel seems calm as a newborn at rest. The man he is talking too, well that is another story all together. Several hours later, Johnny makes his way over to the location Joel provided for him. He sets up his camera with a telescopic lens and waits for Tycoon to show up. After several hours Tycoon finally shows up, but just as Johnny is about to snap a picture the butt of a assault rifle comes down on the back of Johnny’s head. Johnny is lifted up and carried inside the abandoned warehouse. Off in the distance a black Sedan pulls up and a figure walks out holding an Uzi. Inside the warehouse Johnny is plopped down on a chair and tied to it. Tycoon then slaps Johnny hard enough to cause spit to go flying out of his mouth. I’m going to own this city and it’s all thanks to that little camera you got there. Johnny: My camera…but I haven’t even taken any pictures yet… Tycoon: Didn’t you? Daryl, take out his memory card and put in the one I told you to bring. Daryl: I'm on it boss. Johnny: What’s going on? Tycoon: How dumb are you boy? Let me spell it out for you. On that camera, which will be found with your dead body, are pictures of Lou Ferrari bribing judges, cops, and politicians. We got shots of him shooting a guy in the head. Hell, I even think we got a few pics of him cheating on his wife with a few ladies of the night! Looks like you’re going to be a world famous journalist after all, too bad you won’t be alive to enjoy it! Tycoon rears back and punches Johnny. Blood and spit shoots out of Johnny’s mouth as Tycoon and Daryl laugh. Tycoon continues this for several minutes until gunshots are heard from downstairs. Daryl grabs the nearby shotgun as the door swings open. Tycoon turns to see City Sweeper holding a gun pointed right at him. Daryl blast City Sweeper in the chest, and the vigilante flies back from the force. Daryl then kicks the Uzi away from Sweeper's grasp. Tycoon laughs as Daryl lifts Sweeper up by the shirt. Still unsure as to what has been done to him, Johnny Walker refuses to believe any of it was real. Even with the evidence of his own greenish and deformed hands right in front of him, Johnny still hopes for some sort of reasonable explanation. After several hours of aimles wandering, Johnny has inadvertantly made his way to the south side of Ravenholme or as the locals know it Dream Town. The locals call it Dream Town, because it is the area of the city controlled by Narco and his Nightmares gang. Johnny hears a scream for help, but in his stupor ignores it. As the screams get more and more frantic a pain begins to grow in Johnny's head. Johnny gets back to his feet and heads toward the screams. As he gets closer his pain begins to subside and soon he feels nothing inside his head at all. Johnny begins to walk faster and soon he sees Stabby Joe holding a large knife while standing over a woman. The woman appears to be bleeding, but she does not appear to have suffered any fatal wounds. The Ghoul responds with a punch that causes Joe to stumble back. Stabby Joe lunges forward, but The Ghoul dodges out of the way. The Ghoul kicks Stabby Joe in the side, knocking Joe down. Stabby Joe tosses his knife at The Ghoul and it inbeds itself in the Ghoul's chest. The Ghoul pulls the knife out in amazement. Stabby Joe gets back to his feet and pulls the woman in front of him. Joe then tosses the woman at the Ghoul, who lets out a yell of “Coward!” Stabby Joe flees the scene as the woman also runs off in terror...</div></blockquote></div> As The Ghoul watches the woman run off he feels his body getting changing. He looks down at his hands to see they have gone from pale green to their original color. Confuse, but not willing to look a gift horse in the mouth Johnny heads to the street to call a cab. {Maybe this was all a dream after all. I bet that bastard Tycoon drugged me with some new hallucigen! I can't wait to go home and see my wife...} A cab pulls up and Johnny gets in. As he does Gaia looks on. Johnny may think this was a dream, but Gaia knows she will have need of her Ghoul again soon. For now, she allows Johnny a small bit of relief. She knows the road ahead of him is sure to be filled with pain and misery. :::Meanwhile, on a nearby rooftop::: A large man in a blue trench coat and matching mask is looking down at the alley Stabby Joe and The Ghoul were just fighting in. ???: It looks like we have another player in this city. Judging by his appearance I would say Ying Yang has found another assassin to add to his Silence Squad. Whoever this freak is, he better be ready. As the cab comes closer to the block Johnny lives on it comes to a sudden halt. Johnny opens his eyes to see several police officers standing in front of the cab. Johnny Walker: Yes...that's me. police officer: (speaking into his walkie talkie) Sir, I have Mr. Walker here with me. police radio; Bring him to the station, and tell no one! Police Officer; Mr. Walker I am going to need you to come with me. Tell the cab driver to see Officer Montoya for a voucher for the cab fare. Hurry Mr. Walker, we don't have much time. :::Meanwhile::: Deathwatch Beetle is on a nearby roof watching Johnny talk to the police officer. When he sees Johnny get put into a nearby squad car, he believes his suspicions about both Johnny and the corrupt Ravenholme PD are correct. Deathwatch Beetle follows the squad car for several blocks, waiting for the right moment to strike. When the squad car stops at a red light, just a few blocks from the police station, Deathwatch Beetle dashes at the squad car and smashes in the driver side window with his boot. The police officer is knocked out from the sudden jarring blow and Johnny feels a familiar pain begin to grow inside his head. Deathwatch Beetle unlocks the back door and pulls out Johnny. However, when he looks at the man in his hands Johnny Walker is no longer there, instead he is face to face with The Ghoul! Deathwatch Beetle: Like you, he works for one of the crime bosses in the city. Tycoon paid him a lot of money to make sure Ferrari goes down. (editor's note: Deathwatch Beetle learned this from Tycoon himself in his civilian guise in Deathwatch Beetle #246.) The Ghoul: I don't work for any crime boss...besides if he was helping to take Ferrari down why would you stop him. Deathwatch Beetle: I wasn't...I was just trying to take down two birds with one stone. Now it seems like I'm going to get to take down three!!! A man by the name of Lou Ferrari is our prime suspect, but we have no proof just yet. It seems you pissed Lou off when you took some incriminating photos of him. I'm sorry to say that those photos and their negatives have disappeared from the evidence vault. Johnny Walker: So what? My family was killed for nothing. That bastard doesn't even go to jail for crimes committed on photograph while my family is dead. And me...I'm being held here like some common thief! Rachel Noir: Sir, if you could tell me how you obtained those photos then maybe we could find a way to put Lou Ferrari away. Johnny Walker: Well, if you really want to know then you should ask Tycoon. Judging by that look on your face I'm going to assume you didn't know that the ex MMA star was involved in organized crime... Rachel leans in really close to Johnny. Rachel Noir: Shut up. I don't know how you know about Tycoon, but if the others hear you then you are as good as dead. Most of the cops in here are either corrupt or willing to turn a blind eye. Me, I'm one of the few good ones left. I'm going to release you as you have no information that can be of use to us. Meet me at Lexington and Cornell at eight o' clock tonight. Good. Been digging this character. He's got a bit of a dark history without being so dank and depressing that you need a Prozac or some St. John's wort afterward. You have a good balance here. Looking forward how you continue his story.
