SWF: Trial By Fire

Recommended Posts

Spring Break 2012 was pretty awesome for me. I went down with school and brought my younger brother with me. We were both huge wrestling fans so while most of my class hit the beaches and partied it up, Kevin and I took in a few lucha libre shows. Kevin was already training with TCW’s Joey Minnesota, even though he was only in high school, and I’d picked up a thing here and there that he brought home from his lessons. Our parents were doing pretty decent and had set up a few huge mats in a corner of our basement and we put a ladder against a wall in a corner to act as a turnbuckle. Before long, Kevin and I were working the smaller, local indies and getting some experience. But back to Spring Break, this was when we finally hit upon the idea that would get me to where I am today.

Kevin and I were at an OLLIE show debating what the initials actually stood for (I insist that it’s in Spanish and Kevin wouldn’t get it anyway) and we happened upon a vendor who was selling “authentic” lucha libre masks and costumes. Kevin took one look and shrugged, but I was enthralled. Naturally, we took a few pictures for facebook, which I still have (with Kevin’s sarcastic comments for each one). I think the first one made him laugh the most.

But I didn’t let Kevin get to me. He could be a jerk sometimes, but I knew his poking fun was in jest and that I’d give it back to him later. Besides, I’d set my eyes on the mask that would make my career.

<p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i559.photobucket.com/albums/ss39/Kamchatka863/SWF_alt3.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<em>After working a few indy dates in the later part of the year, I saw on the internet that SWF had removed Peter Michaels from his booking position. I didn’t really get it, after the whole “Man Under Pressure” story, since that had been such a huge success, but whatever. I typed up a quick cover letter and resume, along with a collection of matches and shows that I’d booked on the indies and sent it Supreme’s way.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

I got a call the next week to show up for an interview. Some of the guys that I saw waiting in that hallway with me…Well let’s just be glad I brought a notebook and pen to get autographs. Johnny Martin was there, along with Teddy Powell from PSW, Belle Bryden from USPW, Larry Wood was back from Japan…It was crowded and hectic. I struck up a conversation with Bob Casey, who I’d worked with on the indies and we made jokes about what some of these people would do if they actually got the job.</em></p><p><em> </em></p><p><em>

I was one of the last folks called, and I’m assuming they went based on likelihood that they could give someone the job and send everyone else home, based on the look I saw on the faces of the Eisens and Peter Michaels when I walked through the door. They looked exasperated, disappointed, you might say, and they were none too happy to see a scrawny 22 year old kid walk in. Richard was the first to speak, but I got the feeling this was just a formality.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Richard Eisen:<span style="color:#FF0000;"> “Look kid, we’re looking for someone to basically run this company. I see here that you put together a few indy shows that were well received and that you’re a wrestler, but do you really think you’re SWF material?”</span></p><p> </p><p>

<em>I took a deep breath and paused, picking each word carefully. Richard Eisen’s temper was legendary and we’d heard a few four letter words chase people like Ash Campbell out the door.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Danny Glenn:<span style="color:#800080;"> “Misters Eisen, Mr. Michaels, I wouldn’t have applied for the job if I wasn’t absolutely confident that I could do it. I’ve been watching this programming since before Christian Faith won his first world title. I’ve seen what worked for you and what bombed horribly and –“</span></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Jerry stood up angrily at that point, raising his voice.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Jerry Eisen:<span style="color:#0000FF;"> “And what? Just because the election storyline didn’t work, that doesn’t make it my fault! Who are you to come in here and bad mouth great men like Sam Keith and Peter here?”</span></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Richard Eisen is the last one I would’ve expected to be the voice of reason here, but he put a hand on Jerry’s chest and Jerry seemed to relax a bit, sitting farther back in his chair.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Richard Eisen:<span style="color:#FF0000;"> “So if we gave you the job, say your first Pay-Per-View to book on your own was Awesome Impact 2013. No titles have changed hands. Give me a rundown of your card.”</span></p><p> </p><p>

<em>I quickly pulled out my notebook and flipped through it to the booking plan I’d prepared at home right after I applied. It wasn’t specifically tailored to be Awesome Impact 2010, but it should work well enough with some tweaking on the fly</em>.</p><p> </p><p>

Danny Glenn:<span style="color:#800080;"> Main event is easy. Steve Frehley defends the SWF World Title against Christian Faith and Vengeance. Faith is going to be able to pull the best matches against Steve, or probably anyone else on the roster, and Vengeance is there because you don’t want 2 good guys facing each other. The All Americans face off against The Platinum Blondes match for the tag belts, since Freddy and James are awesome at getting heat and can handle most of the promo work. Eric Eisen defends the North American title against Valiant. And then for non-title stuff, Jack Bruce faces Enforcer Roberts and Angry Gilmore takes on Marat Khoklov. The Amazing Bumfholes team up to face Remo and Rich Money back together again. And The Chase Agency face Lobster Warrior, Captain Atomic and Amer- no, Jungle Lord with the winning team getting shots at the North American and Tag Team Titles.</span></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Peter had the first response, and that was no surprise since he was the previous booker. He knew how all of these would fit into what was already going on, and he knew what stuff bookers had to face.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Peter Michaels:<span style="color:#FFA500;"> “I noticed that you almost said American Machine to team with Atomic. I know a lot of people wanted Machine in the Hero Squad instead of teaming with Des Davids, did you have him down twice?”</span></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Of course, Peter caught me. I’d written down American Machine’s name twice in my notebook, which wasn’t a huge deal if I was playing on Total Wrestling Revolution 2012, but in front of the most important man in wrestling, I’d screwed up big. So I scrambled to salvage it.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Danny Glenn:<span style="color:#800080;"> Not exactly. I did have American Machine down twice, but I think he fits better in the Tag Title match anyway. And not just because he’s one of the champions. Jungle Lord is also probably one of the best brawlers on the roster from his time in Japan and so he’d be good against Brandon James. It’s a nice piece to drop into that match, especially with his savagery against the class of the Agency.</span></p><p> </p><p>

Peter Michaels:<span style="color:#FFA500;"> “Who would be your ideal choice for that spot?”</span></p><p> </p><p>

<em>That was a surprising question. The problem was that I started answering it before thinking and had to scramble to put the rest together on the fly.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Danny Glenn:<span style="color:#800080;"> “Well there’s these guys I saw down in Mexico. They’re called Tres Phoenix, and they all wear similar masks and wrestle three guys called The Swarm and-“</span></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Thank goodness Richard cut me off there.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Richard Eisen:<span style="color:#FF0000;"> “We know about the Phoenix versus Swarm feud. Phoenix Two was in here earlier trying to sell it to me as the Main Event of the next Supreme Challenge.”</span></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Instinctively I laughed and Jerry gave me a look that shut me up straight away. I think Richard saw it because he gave Jerry the most terrifying look I’ve ever seen.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Richard Eisen:<span style="color:#FF0000;"> “Believe me, it wasn’t the worst idea I had today. At least your ideas didn’t use anyone who wasn’t already on the roster. Now, let me tell you what we’re looking at. We've watched your tapes and we were planning on offering you at least a developmental deal today anyway.”</span></p><p> </p><p>

<em>Richard slid a manila folder across the table. I opened it up and inside was a bunch of legal looking paperwork, but the first things I saw were the important phrases. “Active roster” and “One year contract”. I pulled out my pen, but Richard held up a hand to indicate for me to wait.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Richard Eisen:<span style="color:#FF0000;"> “Before you sign on the line, let me tell you what the plan is. For now, we’re going to sign you as a wrestler, basically to job on Supreme TV. We’ll ease you into booking slowly, but Peter has a few storylines that run until Nothing To Lose in February, and so he’s going to stay on. Plus he’s great at the desk. In the meantime, you two can work together setting up the shows, and you can run storylines with anyone who Peter isn’t using. How does that sound? It'll be kind of a umm...trial by fire.”</span></p><p>

</p><p><em>

They say actions speak louder than words. I gave a resounding “Yes” with my signature on the line.</em></p>

<p>The first show is about 60% written so far, and there'll be a prediction card probably later today. I've got a few storylines roughly booked until Supreme Challenge, so hopefully I'll keep playing & writing long enough for you guys to see them.</p><p> </p><p>

This is also my first game with TEW 2013 (I finally bought it, yay) so I will probably make a mistake or two...per show. But seriously, on with the show!</p>

Midnite vs. Rich Money

Money is a main eventer and your user character not so much.

Marshall Dillon vs. "The Demon" Vengeance

Yeaj no question here

Tag Team Title #1 Contenders Match

The Amazing Bumfholes vs. The Pain Alliance

Your tag champs are faces, personally I would have fired both of these locker room cancers.

"The Disco Stud" Robbie Retro & The All Americans vs. Squeeky McClean & The Platinum Blondes

Retro has ended up on my NBT list every game I've started an SWF game plsu tag champs need some momentum before the go against the challengers and they'll take a momentum loss for the loss even if Retro takes the pin.

Valiant vs. "Big Money" Brandon James

DQ when the rest of the Chase Agency gets involved

The Supreme Wrestling Federation has announced that, effective the first of the year in 2013, matches on Supreme TV will have time limits as follows:</p><p> </p><p>

Main Event: 25 Minute Time Limit</p><p>

Sub Main Event: 20 Minute Time Limit</p><p>

Other Matches: 10 Minute Time Limit</p><p> </p><p>

Title matches taking place on Supreme TV will see the time limit extended by 10 minutes. These limits are also variable in other special circumstances.</p><p> </p><p>

========================================================</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Show will hopefully be posted tonight yet, and if not, I'll finish it on Thanksgiving (Thursday). Writing out all of the promos is a lot more work than I thought it would be, so that will be reserved for PPVs from now on and future shows will have promos in summary form.</p>

<p>Midnite vs.<strong> Rich Money</strong></p><p>

As much as I'd like to see Parson lose, the safe money is on him. </p><p> </p><p>

Marshall Dillon vs. <strong>"The Demon" Vengeance</strong></p><p>

Of course, you could go the other way, and push both the avatar and Dillion as its easier to pay off stars early in the season and the SWF has plenty of money. Marshall has some elite stuff and can reach lower-midcarder/midcarder within six months.</p><p> </p><p>

Tag Team Title #1 Contenders Match</p><p>

The Amazing Bumfholes vs. <strong>The Pain Alliance</strong></p><p>

The problem is that Zimmy and Randy are the better team -- but unless you change titles, Pain Alliance is likely to go over here. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>"The Disco Stud" Robbie Retro & The All Americans</strong> vs. Squeeky McClean & The Platinum Blondes</p><p>

I'm betting the Tag Titles get play in Week 2, and these guys don't make the PPV. The bigger question is if the Blondes break up within a few weeks so Flex can fly solo. </p><p> </p><p>

Valiant <strong>vs. </strong>"Big Money" Brandon James</p><p>

I gotta agree with DQ</p>

Three of ‘em. I don’t know how three people can all be number one, but whatever. Christian Faith? I’m gonna knock him out. Remo? I’m gonna knock him out. Vengeance? I’m gonna knock him out too. I’ll knock out all three of them out at once if I have to. Because I’m the champ. And that means that that ring out there? That’s my yard. After my first show, the big boss called me into his office. I’d already showered after my debut and was dressed in streets, so it was pretty quick just to walk over to Mr. Eisen’s makeshift office in the arena and knock on the door. A hearty “Come in!” answered my knock and I opened the door to find Peter Michaels and Richard Eisen sitting there waiting for me.

Richard Eisen: Alright, kid, not a bad first show. Now there are a few things I’d like to go over with you. First off, here are your grades for the show. I’ll be going over them, and using that TEW.com site’s system for rating you. So far, this was good, but we can get better. Nothing against you, of course. Second, this is my company so I’ve got some things for you to work on. First, I want to grow this company into the best in the world. So I want us to never go in debt and to grow in size. If you can’t do that, you’re not going to book my company. If we’re mired in scandal, we’re not going to grow in size, so avoid people with problems with the law. And no MMA guys either, I don’t want to dip into that market and deal with that extra competition.

Midnite: Sounds good, Mr. Eisen. Is there anything else?

Richard Eisen: Yeah, another thing. Don’t bury Eric. I know you’ve gone over your plans for him with Peter, but I don’t want him to get lost in the shuffle; keep him strong. And push Paul Huntingdon. We made that character for him and he’s doing a fantastic job. I want people to see what happens when you’re a home-grown SWF talent. You can work that into your plans, right?

Midnite: Sure thing, Mr. Eisen. And I’m sure Mr. Michaels can help me with any questions, right?

Peter Michaels: Of course, kid. Now I think that’s all we got, I’ve gotta talk to Rich about s’more stuff so go ahead and run along.

Well, that could’ve gone a lot worse. I left the office and went back to the metaphorical drawing board (the laptop I bought with my signing bonus) and started running through scenarios for Huntingdon and Eisen. This shouldn’t be this hard, should it?

Actual Owner Goals

*SWF cannot fall into debt at any point. (28 months, Critical Importance)

*SWF must have risen to at least International Size. (24 months, Critical Importance)

*Eric Eisen must be kept above 71 popularity. (16 months, High Importance)

*Paul Huntingdon must have reached at least 71 popularity in American when the time expires. (24 months, High Importance)

*You can’t hire anyone classed as an MMA Crossover. (32 months, Average Importance)

*You cannot hire or extend the contract of anyone known to have problems with the law. (16 months, Average Importance)
