NEO: Now with 100% more "fun"! [Thunderverse]

Recommended Posts

So it seems like every time I get an idea for a diary, the real life always gets in the way and ruins my train of thought, wasting all of the time and effort I put into planning. Well this time it's going to be different. Not because I've found a way to keep work from getting in the way of creativity/drive, but because I'm just going to stop worrying about preparing every single stupid detail and just play the damn game and report on it.

Much like the NEO diaries of old, this is a 0/0/0/0 challenge run. Unlike like my older diaries, this time I'm making it even harder on myself by mandating that I must run at least 2 shows every month including January. The reason for this is pretty simple, while I like having the additional cash each month from sponsors (which was needed due to downsides becoming a thing for all contacts), I've been disappointed in the fact that this change more or less made being local feel almost exactly like being a small promotion. In previous versions, each size up until International felt different to me. You scrapped by as a local promotion before having those cash limitation lifted as a small promotion. Thanks to the added cash, being a small promotion bring a lot of variety as you are able to expand and improve your roster. However this is needed as you enter regional battles. Once you moved to regional you start promoting outside of the home market, most likely picking up a small TV deal before hitting Cult and gaining a PPV deal. Of course then you move into the National scene with written deals and battle it out with the top promotions in the country/world.

With the 2 shows per month rule in effect, I'm hoping I will get back to making local mean something. Of course this means that I might be limiting the people I can bring in once I hit small, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. In any case I'm just happy I'm finally going posting again on the site.

Another thing about this diary is that, at least right now, I will be booking more or less on the fly. My plan is to book each double shot and then write down a couple of notes about things I could do in the future based off of the results. Now this could lead to a long drawn out story that would run through a good chunk of the year, but realistically I just trying to book the promotion like you might see it in real life. As I've said before, I've always kind of ignored the fact that the promotion starts out getting only like 10 people at each event. Instead I'll be running with the same idea that I had with my previous diary, "I Can Be a Booker", and treat these early shows as if they were part of a charity event and the in-game attendance are people who brought a premium package (giving them something like first row seating).

<p>Post #2: January 2014 Preview</p><p> </p><p> Before we start getting into the shows, I guess there are a couple of quick things that I would like to explain about this run. The first thing is that I will be playing without the fog of war and without storylines. While I like the idea of the Fog of War, in practice I just don't find it as enjoyable as seeing the progress my wrestlers make through the years. The strict storylines being turned off will most likely be a temporary one as right now I know that there is no way in hell that I would be able to get grades of 35 or better from the roster right out of the gate. I'm also not that big of a fan of how the storylines in this version of TEW work either as it doesn't seem to scale itself to the promotion's size as well as I would like it too.</p><p> </p><p> As I get into booking events, you are quickly going to notice that I am booking shows on the last two days of the month. This is by design to, hopefully, get around those pesky financial warnings that can easily end a promotion in the early going. I really hope that no picks up one of my wrestlers in the first year, because it would most likely mean having to drop that worker or move one of the events, which would put me at the whim of the game financially and/or would screw up the whole double shot thing that I have going one. </p><p> </p><p> Speaking of strategies, unlike my usual booking strategy, I am going to forgo starting out doing a title tournament right out of the gate. Much like running two shows a month, this rule is to help me change things up as I ALWAYS make it a priority to crown my company’s champion. From a kayfabe perspective it makes sense as the early shows are really aren't the main focus of the night. They are just one of the many things going one during the charity event. I'm not sure when we will crown a champion, though I'm sure it will get started before the year is up. </p><p> </p><p> Finally, many of you Thunderverse players might notice that this roster is extremely young. The oldest wrestler in the company are Alroy Farrelly and Alama Desierto who are both the grand "old" age of 24. On the other end of the spectrum are three people on the roster that can't legally drink in the states: The Zombie, Gold Phoenix, and Seung Zhi. More importantly, this roster isn't that impressive as far as in ring talent goes. While there certainly is some talent on the roster, it's definitely that the kind of roster that I am used to starting out with. That said, after working with the roster for the past couple of days, I've got to say that they've grown on me. Even The Chain Gang. <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/eek.png.0e09df00fa222c85760b9bc1700b5405.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png"></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="37418" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><strong><em><span style="text-decoration:underline">Wrestling for Shoes, Night One</span></em></strong><p> Singles Match: Alroy Farrelly vs. The Zombie</p><p> Tag Team Match: Kelly Price & TJ Sway vs. The Chain Gang</p><p> Singles Match: Aguila Negra vs. Blue Phoenix </p><p> Singles Match: Alma Desierto vs. Gold Phoenix</p><p> Singles Match: Kasper Deamonte vs. Seung Zhi</p><p> </p><p> <strong><em><span style="text-decoration:underline">Wrestling for Shoes, Night Two</span></em></strong></p><p> Singles Match: Alroy Farrelly vs. Seung Zhi</p><p> Tag Team Match: Aguila Negra & Alma Desierto vs. Los Phoenix</p><p> Singles Match: Aron Chain vs. TJ Sway</p><p> Singles Match: Dale Chain vs. Kelly Price</p><p> Singles Match: Kasper Deamonte vs. The Zombie</p></div></blockquote>

<p>Right, before I start throwing completely random predictions, I need to cover my back by saying that most of these guys are completely unknown to me as I only know The Chain Gang and Los Phoenix and even on those, my knowledge is limited to the fact that they are tag teams, and not all that skilled. That said, will be interesting to see how well these guys are able to do espesially once you get to small and can sign better talent.</p><p> </p><p>

Wrestling for Shoes, Night One</p><p>

Singles Match: <strong>Alroy Farrelly</strong> vs. The Zombie</p><p>

<em>I do usually like dark gimmicks but The Zombie seems to be expection on that rule as he´s literally the guy I like least on the roster (and yes, this opinion is only based on alts). As a result you won´t see me picking him until he proves he´s something else than a jobber.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Tag Team Match: <strong>Kelly Price & TJ Sway</strong> vs. The Chain Gang</p><p>

<em>Usually I would go with named team espesially with no knowledge on these guys but you did said that everyone, even Chain Gang, is starting to grown on you, which probably means that you weren´t high on them at the beginning. And besides, while it´s usually good practice to keep as many guys as possible to look strong, in new local sized promotion you first need to establish your top guys and that means they need to have better than 50-50 win-loss percentage.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Singles Match: <strong>Aguila Negra</strong> vs. Blue Phoenix</p><p>

Singles Match: <strong>Alma Desierto</strong> vs. Gold Phoenix</p><p>

<em>Both Phoenixis are tag guys and thus can take singles losses. Besides, if memory serves, there were some quite talented guys in Mexico on this mod and so Negra and Desierto are good bets to be some of the better in-ring talents on your roster.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Singles Match: <strong>Kasper Deamonte</strong> vs. Seung Zhi</p><p>

<em>You said that Zhi is one of the youngest guys on your roster and while everyone is pretty young, I usually associate youngest roster members on jobber roles and I see no reason not to assume that it wouldn´t be the case here too (man, I don´t think I ever had this many shots in the dark on single prediction round. </em><img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><em>).</em></p><p> </p><p>

Wrestling for Shoes, Night Two</p><p>

Singles Match: <strong>Alroy Farrelly</strong> vs. Seung Zhi</p><p>

<em>Again, Zhi is younger and thus jobs (maybe!).</em></p><p> </p><p>

Tag Team Match: Aguila Negra & Alma Desierto vs. <strong>Los Phoenix</strong></p><p>

<em>Unlike with Chain Gang, I have Los Phoenix get a win back here as I figure that this could well be a feud with all four of these guys being from Mexico. That and the fact that Los Phoenix guys are my current favorites from the roster makes me to go with proper team this time around.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Singles Match: Aron Chain vs. <strong>TJ Sway</strong></p><p>

Singles Match: Dale Chain vs. <strong>Kelly Price</strong></p><p>

<em>If I wasn´t willing to pick Chain Gang to win a tag match, it likely comes as no surprise that I´m not picking them in singles competition either.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Singles Match: <strong>Kasper Deamonte</strong> vs. The Zombie</p><p>

<em>Again, I don´t like Zombie so won´t pick him to win, at least not yet.</em></p>

Like you I'm new to the T-Verse, But I love it so this has my attention. I also did the start with a smaller promotion thing (Tho small, not local) and two guys who have been great so far are Pete Ryan (who should be a 5 in the great lakes to start, is a decent wrestler, above average entertainer and has great star quality) and Eldon B. Argyle (Who debuts in February, has good star quality, great charisma and decent skills). If your looking for a great manager/personality/authority figure Cassia Caristeas is an egotistical pain in the ass, but has excellent sex appeal and charisma. She should be a 10 overness, but can cut promos that score in the 40-50s right off the bat. Her three entertainment skills are all in the upper 80s. TJ Sway is tapped as "all eyes on" in my game too, so he may be worth trying to build up. His stats are improving pretty nicely.</p><p> </p><p>

Best of luck, I'll be reading.</p>

You have to use the song "Wake Up" of Rage Against the Machine as the event theme... Neo ---> Matrix ---> Official Soundtrack, get it? :D

I've been used to seeing E+/D- level shows in the early going of my previous 0/0/0/0 games, so seeing an E- is a little shocking to me. That said, I really can't be too shocked with the score considering my roster. Of course, I could have helped myself out by not making stupid mistakes.</p><p> </p><p> The biggest mistake I'm made was to not realizing that Seung Zhi didn't speak English. I just assumed that because his bio said he trained in the United Kingdom that he'd at least have a basic understanding of the English language. Opps, my bad.</p><p> </p><p> I also didn't realize exactly how bad Kylea Downey was at being a referee. I knew that she wasn't good, but I didn't know she was bad enough see road agent notes from the very first show.</p><p> </p><p> Finally, I noticed that I was hit with a penalty for Farrelly and The Zombie for going too long. I knew that there was going to be psychology issues with this roster, but I didn't realize that having a D+ in psychology meant that you couldn't have a 16 minute match. Ugh.</p>

I overestimated the ability of Shi's psychology rating, resulting in another main event getting hit by a lack of flow bonus. It's not that big of a deal right now, but there is a good chance that one of my first additions to the roster might be a veteran that will be able to call a decent match. I also got a note about TJ and Aron's eight minute match, but that was to be expected. </p><p> </p><p> More troubling was that Aguila Negra got into an argument with a fan before the show. I went with a stern warning and got the following response: "I can't believe you are making a big deal about this!" When I was hiring people I definitely didn't even think about what kind of people I was hiring. So when I got this note I looked at backstage report. It seems like Negra is an extremely negative locker room influence. Who knew? The good news is that there are a ton of positive guys in the locker room and only one more negative personality, The Zombie.</p>

While I expected the gains in prestige, momentum, and money, seeing 1.8% increase in popularity was a huge surprise. We are going to have a long ways before NEO is going to be a promotion to be reckoned with, but there is now a possibility that we won't be the least important and/or influential promotion by the time this year is up. </p><p> </p><p> I'm also surprised at TJ Sway improved his overness this month, especially considering Farrelly didn't. Both men started the game as main eventers, won two matches, but it was the man that scored lower in his matches that improved. I wonder if that means Sway has a higher destiny stat? </p><p> </p><p> In other news, there was one piece of information that I didn't mention. Besides starting an argument with a fan Aguila Negra also somehow did something to TJ Sway to create a strong dislike relationship between the two. The funny part about this situation is that it happened before the first show. I didn't even know that was possible. The only thing that would make this funnier would be if this was a mod set in a time without social media. Because the only way I could see this happen is if Aguila Negra wrote something on facebook or twitter that made TJ Sway mad.</p><p> </p><p> Finally, I just wanted to say that if this diary doesn't reach to at least the end of June 2014 in-game, it wasn't due to a creative block as a booker. <p>Wrestling for Socks, Night One</p><p>

Four Corner Survival: Aguila Negra vs. <strong>Alroy Farrelly</strong> vs. Aron Chains vs. Gold Phoenix</p><p>

<em>I would have considered going with Negra here but that 0 overness combined with backstage problems does drop him out in my opinion so I´m just playing safe and picking Farrelly who I see as your top face after your first two shows.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Singles Match: <strong>Alma Desierto</strong> vs. Kasper Deamonte</p><p>

<em>If I got the face /heel divide right, then four faces started with 2-0 records and fifth one is Blue Phoenix so Deamonte looks like designed jobber from that group. Desierto was in two good (E rated) matches so despite going 0-2, I think he has more to give in the long run.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Singles Match: <strong>Blue Phoenix </strong>vs. Dale Chains</p><p>

<em>Could go either way but I don´t see Chains being much more than a jobber while Blue Phoenix could at least be decent midcard tag guy.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Tag Team Match: <strong>Kelly Prince & TJ Sway</strong> vs. Seung Zhi & The Zombie</p><p>

<em>What a difference can two shows make. On last predictions, I was willing to write Zhi off as jobber but now I think he will be the lead heel. Without knowing the popularity levels, I would likely have gone with Zhi and Zombie getting the win (grudgingly since I still hate The Zombie) but that overness difference looks a bit too much for them to overcome.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Wrestling for Socks, Night Two</p><p>

Tag Team Match: Alroy Farrelly & Kasper Deamonte vs. <strong>Seung Zhi & The Zombie</strong></p><p>

<em>Like I said, I now see Zhi as the lead heel and if I´m right on that then he needs to get a win somewhere and with Deamonte being here to take the fall this looks like a good spot for that.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Singles Match: Aron Chains vs. <strong>Gold Phoenix</strong></p><p>

Singles Match: Dale Chain vs. <strong>TJ Sway</strong></p><p>

<em>Don´t see either of the Chains to get wins here either.</em></p><p> </p><p>

Four Corner Survival: <strong>Aguila Negra</strong> vs. Alma Desierto vs. Blue Phoenix vs. Kelly Prince </p><p>

<em>I could see anyone winning this one but I think that it´s going to be either Negra or Desierto as I feel heels need to get some wins under their belt and despite their lack of overness gains in first two shows, those two are only heels (other than Zhi) that I see being anywhere near the main event (though I admit Zombie seems to be making a case for himself too). Negra was the guy who was in semi-main event in the first show and based on that, I think you trust him a bit more than Desierto so despite his backstage problems I have Negra going over on this one.</em></p>

While higher destiny stat is possible explanation I think that overness rise probably came from the tag match where TJ Sway teamed with Kelly Prince against Chain Gang, as while Sway did seem to start with more overness than his opponents, Prince started with none so overall the Chain Gang was actually more popular (10 vs. 7) than their opponents. The thing I was most suprised was that Aguila Negra and Alma Desierto are the only ones with no overness even after being in two E rated matches that were close to best matches in both shows espesially when compared on Kasper Deamonte who gained point of overness despite losing both matches, one that was far worse than what Negra or Desierto had. I´m guessing that the tag loss hurt them (or at least Negra) a bit since Blue Phoenix likely didn´t have any overness before that match either.</p>
