TV & PPV Providers

Recommended Posts

Using a Real World Mod at the moment and looking at the PPV providers. Noticing that some of the information is incorrect - Setanta as a PPV provider for the UK, which is no longer the case (or ever was). There is only Sky, which is likely to be the only 'true' PPV provider as I understand it. So I'm looking to clean up the data with the correct data for my game, and the TV Providers too (I notice ITV is listed, but there are probably others in the UK that could take on wrestling, like BT Sport).

Some questions I have:-

Where would the line be drawn for PPV Carriers in TEW?

Would & should Internet media providers be used as PPV Carriers, or TV Providers or not at all?

Anybody know of good lists I could get of providers for TV & PPVs so I could sort out the data for a more realistic experience?

My problem is that it seems a little easy to get TV deals in TEW and I'd like to make this more realistic before I start off my long-term save.

Any thoughts, information and suggestions welcome. Thanks.

It's BT Sport (3 channels, BT Sport 1 & 2 & ESPN) and Sky Sports, specifically that are the main Sports channels in the UK. There are other channels as well in the UK and Ireland:

Ireland would have at least Setanta.

UK & Ireland has these as Entertainment channels in the UK: Syfy (UK version), Comedy Central, MTV, Bravo and Challenge* (and possibly Dave) on cable TV,

ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 (potentially BBC3)on public broadcasting (free) tv

*Challenge is owned by Sky, so may not be relevant as they also have Sky Sports (3 channels worth of Sky Sports)

Eurosport is pan-European (two channels), so I'd guess in TEW terms would cover all of those regions. For each of the individual European regions I am guessing each sub-region will have its own channels with bigger coverage (Sky Deutschland will cover Germany/Central Europe, for example, Sky Italia would be for Mediterranean)

That's the info I have at the moment. Hopefully others can help too, as I'm still researching to sort mine out. Other than UK & Europe I'm struggling at the moment.

and to answer your Q, it's the January version of the Real World Chronicles that I currently have, and it seems next month is likely the last one. Will have a look at yours as well <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Personally I'd be hesistant to include this as from what I'm aware they don't offer their own content, just whatever Sky has.

In the 1990's the majority of WWF shows weren't on PPV at all, some were on terrestrial TV. WCW didn't air their PPVs over here at all, until they moved from TNT to Bravo in the late 90's.

What I would do is just not give those companies any deal in the UK. If we take the WWF for instance, they signed contracts over here to air Raw and SmackDown on Sky Sports, and Heat on Channel 4. Pay Per Views were split between the two. Now because the PPV's were on them channels, and it was part of the contract anyway, they didn't receive any extra income for those shows. So it wouldn't be like the companies in game are at a disadvantage.

Then if we choose to get a PPV provider in the UK then we can contact Sky Sports and try and get one.

They do have their own 'on demand/anytime' service though. So yeah actually I'd not include it.

BT Sports and PickTV certainly wasn't. I'm not sure if in 2003 Setanta Sports was also aired in England or if that was later, around 2005-2007.

Powerful Fox, thank you for all that info. That will come in handy as I add TV Networks and PPV Carriers into my mod. I may have to make some adjustments to the size of some of the networks and carriers for gameplay purposes, but this is definitely a great starting point.

Good work on the UK <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Filling mine in a bit more now, looking at Europe currently. The way I've broken it down is thus:

Central Europe: Germany/Austria. Didn't include France TV Markets as they no longer have PPV.

PPV: Sky Select

Channels: Sky Sports (size: Very Big), Eurosport (Medium)

Meditteranian: Italy (there is Spain that comes under this area but to prevent a reghion getting bombarded with lots of channels from different countries IRL I'm just going with the main country for each region).

PPV: Sky PrimaFilma (size: Very Big)

Channels: Sky Sport (size: Very Big), Eurosport (Medium), GXT (Medium, entertainment channel)

Scandinavia: Sweden

PPV: C More

TV: ViaSat, Canal Digital are the two main companies serving Scandinavia. Need to research the channels a bit more but it's all on wiki/google.

Eastern Europe: Russia

PPV: NTV Plus

Channels: Need to research.

All other areas in my mod I'm looking at seem to have a decent amount of carriers for TV/PPV for the moment, but I'm gonna double check these are up to date,
