MAJOR NEWS: Strong steps down from USPW day-to-day duties, Nemesis named successor

By Head USPW Correspondent Mickey King

Orlando, Florida: USPW owner Sam Strong, renowned for having taken the company from a small regional power in the Southeastern United States to a full-fledged competitor with SWF and TCW nationwide, announced today that he will step down from the day-to-day duties of ownership effective immediately. This announcement comes on the heels of Strong, who cited age and health concerns as the reason for the sudden decision, announcing that he would be willing sell a two-thirds stake in the company for $5 million. The buyer has now been identified as former DAVE and current Invincible Pro Wrestling head booker John “Nemesis” Campbell. The move was made official at a press conference yesterday, once Campbell’s departure from IPW was confirmed. At the press conference, Strong said that, in addition to the new company look and logo unveiled at the press conference (see the bottom of the article for a link, then head on over to the "Comments" section to share your thoughts), he expects the product to move in a more adult direction and for there to be “significant” roster changes.

“It’s a shame that I can no longer run USPW on a day-to-day basis,” Strong said in an improvised statement, “but I feel that Nemesis is the right person to carry us forward and finally make the move towards taking down the “Big Two” of SWF and TCW. The changes he and I have discussed won’t have anything but a good impact. I’d encourage every current USPW fan to give our new product a try, but there will certainly be some changes to what you see on our programming. That comes with having a new owner—I no longer have final say over what is shown on USPW television.”

Apparently, USPW founder Danny Jillefski disagreed with Strong’s decision—he announced his resignation, effective immediately, the moment the deal went through and there are already reports that he is looking to found a new promotion that will feature the family-friendly product USPW may be choosing to leave behind. Following Jillefski out the door were wrestlers Peter Valentine and Jethro “Giant Redwood” Jonas, both of whom would be expected to play a diminished role in a company owned by Nemesis.

The first change the Orlando-based company announced was a change in the name of its flagship TV show from USPW American Wrestling to USPW Global Wrestling. The show will move from 90 minutes to two hours and will go from its previous 6 pm time to the 8pm timeslot. Campbell, who apparently left IPW due to “creative frustration”, had the following to say about the ownership change and significant changes to the in-ring product:

“Look, Sam and I haven’t been the best of friends throughout our time in this business, but you don’t need to like each other to be good business partners. I’ve lived frugally for years so that I could make an investment when I found something that I thought was worth buying into, and USPW is definitely worth the money that I spent. As for product changes, yeah, there will be some. Expect to see some of our characters and storylines move in a more adult direction. I don’t like the idea of restricting us to family appeal—you can expect to see more programming geared towards 18-30-year-old men. There’ll be more hardcore influences, sure—hardcore is something that I know and love. It ain’t like every match is going to have blood and weapons. The changes won’t be that big.”

“For all you Strong-a-Maniacs out there, don’t worry,” Campbell added. “Sam ain’t going to be leaving USPW programming any time soon. Expect him to play a major role on TV as long as he wants one.”

Campbell also announced that USPW will take a page out of the SWF’s book and found a development territory, Grey Dog Wrestling, based out of the company’s main headquarters in Orlando.

“We ain’t going to settle for SWF and TCW’s sloppy seconds any more,” Campbell said. “That ain’t to say we won’t sign any of their guys—expect to see us bid for anybody who becomes available—but we’ve got to focus on building our own stars rather than waiting for contracts from other companies to come due. I want us to have a great base for five years from now as well as the best product on TV at the moment.”

Reactions to the move from around the wrestling and media worlds were mixed. Supreme Wrestling Federation owner Richard Eisen called the move “a smart business decision that won’t make any difference in determining who’s the biggest sports entertainment company in the world,” while Tommy Cornell of Total Championship Wrestling declared the move “a travesty of the highest order,” and stated that he will back any promotion Jillefski founds over the “new” USPW. Apparently, Sports America, home of USPW programming since it was placed on television, was incredibly unhappy about the move and may not want to show Global Wrestling beyond this television season. If that turns out to be the case, expect Campbell and Strong to be looking for a new home for their company’s programming come February.

We will bring you more on this story as it becomes available. In the meantime, though, make sure to catch the new-look USPW Global Wrestling this Wednesday, live in its new 8 pm timeslot on Sports America.

OOC: This is my first diary, so any feedback would be great. The roster and first show preview will be up by the end of the evening.

I've already booked two and a half months in-game, so the first prediction contest will run until the end of that time. The diary will be presented from the point of view of an online dirt sheet/wrestling site, so any backstage news will be reported after the fact.

Also, I'm sorry if the backstory is a little unbelievable. I tried my best to make it make sense, but I started this game with no intention of turning it into a diary.

Last of all, thanks to serotonin187 for the USPW logo, thanks to every artist who's made an alt that I'm using, and thanks to everyone who's written a diary on this board before for being an inspiration.

<p>OOC Note: I've included everyone I signed in the first week on the roster, even if they aren't available for the first show. Pushes are adjusted according to where they will be when those people join the roster. There are a couple people who are either surprises or who didn't get back to me in the first week. They aren't included and will be added when they accept a contract offer or when they appear in the diary. First show preview to follow.</p><p>

A reliable source leaked us this roster with the names of everyone who has accepted a contract with USPW this week. There are quite a few new names, some of which are rather unexpected. <p>Good luck with this, I enjoyed your opening post. One thing:</p><p> </p><p>

Not sure if intentional or not, but I get a link to the person's picture as opposed to the picture. When your on the page of whatever picture you want, say Alicia Strong, click on the "IMG" Line under "Links to share this photo" on the right hand side and it will copy a code that you can then add to your post.</p><p> </p><p>

like so:</p><p>

<a href="http://s744.photobucket.com/user/w4lru5/media/USPW/People/AliciaStrong_zpse17bf410.jpg.html" rel="external nofollow"><span>http://i744.photobucket.com/albums/xx86/w4lru5/USPW/People/AliciaStrong_zpse17bf410.jpg</span></a></p><p> </p><p>

Again, maybe it was intentional and you already know this. Just thought I'd offer the help IF it was needed.</p><p> </p><p>

Good luck.</p>

One additional suggestion - you may want to specify who's champ at the time of the match, e.g. Andre Jones © or Melody ©. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

[Crowd pops] It’s great to be here in Madison—I can’t imagine a better place to spend New Years’ Eve. As you know, SAMs, I’m the USPW General Manager, and there are some important things to talk about, brother. What Tyson Baine did to Nicky Champion—well, that was not okay, Jack. If I had anything to say about it, brother, Nicky would be at home in bed. But Nicky’s been medically cleared to be here, and he wanted to talk to all of you Strong-a-Maniacs!<p> </p><p> <a href="http://s744.photobucket.com/user/w4lru5/media/USPW/People/NickyChampion_zps13f5939e.jpg.html?sort=4&o=58" rel="external nofollow">Nicky Champion</a>’s music hits and the champion, face heavily bandaged, makes his way down to the ring. All of you saw what Tyson Baine did to me on Christmas night. He blew some kind of hellfire in my face. I’ve been through a lot in my career, but never anything quite like that. There’s a reason I’m not at home—I overcome, as a true Champion will always do. He motions to a fan in the first row with a “True Champion” t-shirt on, then continues. I overcame the pain because I had a goal in mind. I knew the most important thing was that he didn’t take the belt. Who knows what could happen if someone like “The Devil’s Worst Nightmare” got his way all the time? In fact, I’m going to defend my belt, next week, live on this show. Savage Fury’s entrance is practically the opposite. They begin the Haka on the entrance ramp and then make their way to the ring, inviting fans to join their dance. In the ring, the story is largely the same. Jones is methodical, going for lots of submission maneuvers, suplexes, and stiff kicks. Warrior, on the other hand, hits power moves and poses for the fans. Throughout the match, the announcers hype up how dangerous Jones is as a man with a legitimate kickboxing background, talking about his strikes and his ground game in particular. The end comes just over 9 minutes in, when Jones catches Java on the apron with a kick to the jaw and then hits the spear he calls the Blast from the Past on Warrior when the champion comes to save his partner. After eight minutes, it’s Natural Storm who have a near miss as Novak and Karloff connect with the Balance of Power on Howard. Champion’s face is heavily bandaged and he is selling the beating he took from Baine on the Christmas show, so Enygma starts out against Baine. The big man dominates “The Man Who Needs No Face” for a few minutes, even hitting a Hades Bomb for a near-fall. Enygma struggles to the corner and tags in Champion, who hits Baine with an offensive burst. After a couple minutes, a counter from Baine leads to tags from both him and Champion. Jackson comes in and does a fair amount of damage as well, constantly managing to pull Enygma away from the face corner. After about eight minutes with only two tags having been made, Champion finally gets back in the ring for the second time. He mounts some good offense against Jackson, hitting the Hawkeye Hammer for a very close two at the 11-minute mark. Baine runs into the ring, pushes the referee out of the way, and hits Champion with a massive Hades Bomb into the turnbuckle to give the faces a win by DQ.</p><p> </p><p> <span style="font-family:Impact;"><span style="font-size:12px;">WINNERS (BY DQ): ENYGMA AND NICKY CHAMPION (79)</span></span></p><p> </p><p> <a href="http://i744.photobucket.com/albums/xx86/w4lru5/USPW/Logos/USPW_alt_zps13b9530d.jpg" rel="external nofollow">http://i744.photobucket.com/albums/xx86/w4lru5/USPW/Logos/USPW_alt_zps13b9530d.jpg</a></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="37565" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>With the match over, though, Baine isn’t done. He shoves Jackson from the ring, then threatens Enygma into leaving as well. Champion rises as his partner leaves the ring, and Baine steps forward. The announcers react in horror as Baine hits Champion with his second fireball to the face in as many weeks. “The Devil’s Worst Nightmare” rolls the champ out of the ring and calls for a microphone as medical staff begin to attend to “Hawkeye” on the floor. The lights go down and Baine begins to speak in the dark, his signature red light rising as he talks.<p> </p><p> BAINE: Nicky, Nicky, Nicky. You’ve always had things so…easy. No, Nicky… your monster is dwelling near the surface, and I’m going to bring it out. Why? Hey man, decent read :) I know people have already said, but for images to show up as pics and not links, all you need to do on Photobucket is click 'Organise' to ON. Select the picture (or pictures) you want, and then a black bar will appear at the bottom. You want to click on 'Link' and it'll give you some options there. You want the 'IMG Codes' option...

So it should look like this...

Here is what it should look like with just the last " ] " taken off...

If you need me to, I can make you a step-by-step guide with pictures in a PM?
