Non-Title Match: Leon Williams v. Krusher Karloff © w/Sheik Mustafa

Billy’s Take:

Krusher Karloff came down to the ring first, waving his ever-present Soviet flag. Sheik Mustafa grabbed a microphone. “Tonight, you have the privilege of seeing the World’s Most Powerful Force decimate a puny American. Leon Williams will face the wrath of Mother Russia!” Boos rained down on the keffiyeh-wearing Sheik, who seemed to relish in the negativity. Leon Williams ran down to the ring, accompanied by “Stars and Stripes Forever” playing over the PA system. Williams jumped the much larger Russian, stunning the Communist-sympathizer with a series of rapid dropkicks. But in the end, the SCCW champion overpowered Williams, finishing him off with a brutal powerslam.

Winner: Krusher Karloff d. Leon Williams via powerslam

Shane Sneer strode out to the ring, flanked by ‘The Straight Shooter’ Joel Bryant. Sneer took a microphone. “Last month, Genghis Rahn questioned the integrity of this man, Joel Bryant. Rahn, lemme tell you something. ‘The Straight Shooter’ Joel Bryant didn’t gain his nickname because he could putt a golf ball into a cup. ‘The Straight Shooter’ is all about respect, he’s…” Suddenly, Joel Bryant grabbed the microphone from Sneer, stunning the normally loquacious manager. “Enough talking,” Bryant rasped in a gravelly voice. “‘The Straight Shooter’ ain’t about to stand around runnin’ his damn mouth all night. As far as I’m concerned, Genghis, you haven’t earned enough of my respect to make me waste my breath on you.” Bryant threw down the microphone and stalked to the back, this time Sneer walking briskly to keep up with his charge.

Country Whipping Match:

The Hillbillies (Cousin Ezra/Pete the Hillbilly) v. The Bluegrass Boys (The Gambler/‘The Trouble from Tennessee’ Henry Bennett)

Billy’s Take:

This rematch from last month was more brutal than their previous encounter. In this match, all four men had a leather strap secured to their right wrist. Needless to say, this was a physical affair – Bennett’s back was covered with red welts while both Hillbillies sported cut backs running out from their overalls. In the end, it was the Bluegrass Boys who earned the win after the Gambler hit Pete so hard that the hillbilly submitted.

Winners: The Bluegrass Boys via submission

Match Rating: E+

‘Mean’ Mark Green and ‘The Trailer Park Kid’ Mikey Montana came down to the ring, Montana carrying a pair of championship belts over his left shoulder. Green held a microphone. “Y’all might not know who we are,” Green growled. “But once upon a time, ‘Mean’ Mark Green and the ‘Trailer Park Kid’ were the baddest asses in all of Texas. The Outlaws were feared from San Diego to Atlanta and everywhere between. And now we’ve come to Memphis.” He paused as the crowd cheered mention of their city. “To bring back pride to professional wrestling. These belts,” he motioned toward Montana, “mean that whoever holds them are the best team SCCW has to offer. So next month, these belts will be on the line when the Hillbillies meet the Bluegrass Boys, the Skinner Brothers, and the McAlister Clan in a four-way match!”

The four teams announced by ‘Mean’ Mark Green came down to the ring, the Hillbillies and Bluegrass Boys still recovering from their physical matchup earlier in the night and the Skinners and McAlisters barely avoiding coming to blows. Surprisingly, it was Cousin Ezra who first grabbed a microphone. “Welp Mean Mark, we ‘preciate the chance to get them thar belts. And I know Pete’s happier’n a heffer in heat.” Pete nodded. The Gambler was up next. “Listen here,” he began in a high-pitched whine. “It ain’t fair that they,” he pointed toward the Hillbillies, “are in this match. The odds ain’t good for us. But we’re fixin’ to roll the dice and come out on top. Always bet on red!” At this, Bennett rubbed blood off his back and showed it to the crowd. Boss McAlister accepted the microphone from the Gambler. “My boys will be ready, you can guaran-damn-tee that. McAlisters are born to fight and we’re fixin’ to take them belts back to Hog’s Hollow.” Finally, Jakki Skinner had the microphone. “Skinners are used to being underdogs, to being overlooked. But next month, we’ve got an ace in the hole,” Gambler suddenly seemed interested, “when I bring my new boyfriend to make sure Boss plays fair!” Matty and Dukie Skinner both seemed surprised at their short-jean-short-wearing cousin’s announcement.

Dario Shelton v. ‘The Mexican Pit Bull’ Rafael Ruiz w/Shane Sneer

Billy’s Take:

Ruiz came down to the ring decked out in a thin hooded sweatshirt, shadowboxing and wearing headphones that obviously blared music into the ears of the tuned-in Ruiz. Shelton seemed intimidated by the self-proclaimed ‘Mexican Pit Bull’ and took a beating. Ruiz ended it, somewhat mercifully, after putting Shelton in a rear-naked choke he’s dubbed the Ruiz Wrench while a smirking Shane Sneer looked on.

Winner: ‘The Mexican Pit Bull’ Rafael Ruiz via Ruiz Wrench

Ten-Man Battle Royal Featuring Whistler, Dukie Skinner, Matty Skinner,

‘The Arizona Assassin’ Genghis Rahn, Jesse ‘The Power’ Christian, Sheik Mustafa, Whisky Jack McAlister, Blackjack McAlister, The Masked Mauler, ‘The Straight Shooter’ Joel Bryant

Billy’s Take:

Before the match, I announced that the winner of the battle royal would get a title shot next month at Parade of Champions.

Most battle royals are completely chaotic and this was no exception. Early on, the McAlisters and Skinners took each other out of the match, all four eliminated after brawling spilled out over the top rope. The Masked Mauler was next, taken out by a huge kick from Genghis Rahn’s fur-covered boot. In a surprising turn of events, Whistler was the next out when Sheik Mustafa pulled out a foreign object from his keffiyeh (as I found out later) and slammed it point-first into Whistler’s throat. Whistler, gasping for breath, fell over the top and was eliminated. This left just Rahn, Christian, Bryant, and Mustafa – a foursome which spent several minutes in the ring brawling. Christian lifted Mustafa into the Tennessee Torture Rack, but Mustafa again (my back was turned – give me a break!) used his illegal object and ‘The Power’ struggled to stay upright. Somehow, Christian managed to avoid elimination. Rahn and Bryant, who had been attacking one another all match, eliminated each other. This left just Christian and Mustafa. Suddenly, Mustafa – laughing villainously – rolled over the top rope to the floor, willingly eliminating himself.

Despite the confusion of the ending, the crowd cheered the victorious hometown boy, Jesse Christian.

Jesse ‘The Power’ Christian won the battle royal, last eliminating Sheik Mustafa

Match Rating: D+

Jesse ‘The Power’ Christian, his attention totally on the cackling Sheik Mustafa, did not see the Russian giant Krusher Karloff slide into the ring behind him and nearly decapitate Christian with a lariat. Christian crumpled and went limp as Karloff and Mustafa double-teamed the hapless winner. Meanwhile, ‘The Arizona Assassin’ Genghis Rahn and ‘The Straight Shooter’ Joel Bryant continued to brawl outside the ring as the show came to a close.

3/4 - and well done picking Christian to win the battle royal! Honestly, I am not sure what to do with Leon Williams. He's pretty much an afterthought when I book (though he's probably the 3rd or 4th most over guy on my roster!).

I see a confrontation between the Sheik and Whistler in the future

Dario Shelton v. Sheik Mustafa

Not even close.

I have to think Caulfield is pretty over even before the east coast wars. That'll be the tipping point to continue the one-sided feud.

Blackjack and Whisky Jack McAlister played an intense drinking game with Henry Bennett and Cousin Ezra that was certain to end badly; Jakkie Skinner raved about a new T.V. show called "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and argued with her 'cousins' Dukie and Matty about Rachel and Ross' relationship on "Friends"; and resident movie expert William Fletcher quoted lines from the recently-released Jim Carrey film "Liar, Liar." </p><p> </p><p> But I watched the final group of guys most intently. Whistler v. The Masked Mauler

Billy’s Take:

The Marine Corps Anthem played over the arena’s speakers, introducing SCCW’s resident patriot. Whistler came to the ring waving an American flag overhead while wearing blue jeans and a red Marine Corps t-shirt. One new addition to his wardrobe, however, was a piece of gauze taped across the front of his throat. The Masked Mauler emerged next, inciting the crowd at ringside as he passed. Inside the ring, this match was rather one-sided. Despite Whistler’s obvious throat problems (which Mauler happily exploited), the patriot hero emerged victorious after the Rebel Yell.

Winner: Whistler via Rebel Yell

Johnny Lawless came down to the ring holding a microphone to interview the victorious Whistler. “Whistler, congratulations on a big victory there against the Masked Mauler!” Whistler nodded in response. “But the question everybody here in SCCW has is how are you feeling after Sheik Mustafa assaulted you last week in the Wrestle Bowl?” Whistler cleared his throat, clutching at it in agony. “Mustafa,” he whispered in the microphone with a rasp, “is a dead man. When I’m done with him, there’ll be nothing left but a damned turban. By the rockets red-glare, I promise to beat him from sea to shining sea. Oorah!” Whistler, obviously in serious pain, walked away, slapping Lawless on the back as the crowd broke into a loud chant of ‘U…S…A…’

Dario Shelton v. Sheik Mustafa

Billy’s Take:

If anything, the boos for Sheik Mustafa were louder tonight than at any other point in his run so far in SCCW. The Memphis fans hated the keffiyeh-clad Iranian warrior, especially as he decimated the overmatched youngster Dario Shelton. Finally, after dragging out the match for several minutes to allow him to further punish Shelton, the Sheik cinched in the Camel Clutch to force the submission victory.

Winner: Sheik Mustafa via Camel Clutch

Once again, Johnny Lawless emerged with a microphone to interview the winner of the match. But before he could even begin, the crowd erupted into a raucous ‘U…S…A’ chant. “Sheik Mustafa, last month you attacked Whistler with some sort of foreign object. Why?” Lawless questioned the Sheik. Sheik Mustafa looked at Lawless with obvious contempt and spat on the floor. “Whistler represents all that is wrong with America. He speaks badly about my culture yet you simple-minded fans cheer as if he was a hero. It is not my fault he has damage to his throat. That is his fault – Whistler’s fault. Just like it is the fault of each and every one of you fans. Every time you cheer him you reinforce your own ignorance.” The ‘U…S…A’ chants got louder. “You are proving my point. Every chant of ‘USA’ is a chant of ignorance. Iran is number one. Russia is number one. America is…” and Sheik spat on the ground, waving his ever-present Iranian flag proudly overhead.

Before Johnny Lawless could leave the ring, Iron Maiden’s “Run to the Hills” hit and Genghis Rahn ran to the ring, wildly waving an iron chain over his head while – well, it sounded almost like barking. The ‘Arizona Assassin’ grabbed the microphone from Lawless’ hands. “Joel Bryant, last month you said that I haven’t earned your respect. Well, boy, I’m not sure what else I need to do. I’ve beaten your running buddy Rafael Ruiz and every other damned challenger set against me in Southern Championship Class. I am unbowed, unbent, unbroken and unbeaten. Tonight we have a tag match scheduled – you and Ruiz against me and the ‘Hardcore American’ Chris Caulfield. And at the end of that match, when I’ve beat your ass from pillar to post. You…will…respect…me!”

‘The Arizona Assassin’ Genghis Rahn/‘The Hardcore American’ Chris Caulfield v. ‘The Straight Shooter’ Joel Bryant/‘The Mexican Pit Bull’ Rafael Ruiz w/Shane Sneer

Billy’s Take:

Chris Caulfield came out first, joining his partner in the ring and tossing his red, white, and blue bandana into the crowd. Shane Sneer then led his charges out, Ruiz clad in a thin hooded sweatshirt and Bryant checking the tape on his wrists while menacingly eyeballing Rahn. Inside the ring, this was an all-out brawl. Although Ruiz and Bryant threw out a couple of submission holds, this one was more bare-knuckles boxing than scientific wrestling demonstration. Fittingly, its ending was just as brutal as – when I was distracted by Shane Sneer and dealing with his antics at ringside – Rafael Ruiz passed Joel Bryant a folding chair from under the ring. Bryant tattooed Rahn across his forehead with the steel chair and then slid it out of the ring. When I turned back around, Bryant had a bleeding Rahn pinned while Ruiz dealt with Caulfield. I had no choice but to count the pinfall.

Winners: Joel Bryant/Rafael Ruiz via pinfall

After the match, Rafael Ruiz continued to brawl with Chris Caulfield on the outside of the ring. Meanwhile, Joel Bryant and Shane Sneer put the boots to Genghis Rahn until blood gushed from the forehead of the ‘Arizona Assassin’. As Rahn lay unconscious in a pool of his own blood, Bryant grabbed a microphone. “You dare challenge me?” Bryant growled. “You say I lack respect? Fine, consider your damned challenge accepted.” He sent one more kick right to the head of Rahn and stalked from the ring, flanked by Shane Sneer, as the crowd rained down boos.

Tag Team Title Match: The Skinner Brothers (Dukie Skinner/Matty Skinner) w/Jakki Skinner v. The Hillbillies (Pete the Hillbilly/Cousin Ezra) v. The Bluegrass Boys (The Gambler/‘The Trouble from Tennessee’ Henry Bennett) v. The McAlister Clan (Blackjack McAlister/Whisky Jack McAlister) w/Boss McAlister

Billy’s Take:

These are the sorts of matches I hate as a referee and love as a fan. It was action-packed from the first bell as all eight men spent time in the ring trying to get involved. As a result, there was never really one team in control and all had their moments; a Do-Si-Do Double Clothesline from the Hillbillies that sent the Gambler to the floor; a Roll of the Dice from the Gambler on Matty Skinner that nearly earned the Bluegrass Boys the titles; and Blackjack McAlister punching Ezra so hard that the good-natured overall-clad mountain man apparently swallowed his chaw of tobacco. Events outside the ring, though, ultimately decided this one. Boss McAlister, as always, taunted Jakki Skinner with his oft-used bag containing the thirty pieces of silver his family had used to buy the Skinner family farm. In turn, short-jean-short-wearing Jakki (not that I noticed, of course) put two fingers in her mouth and loudly whistled. Suddenly, an engine revved and a man on a motorcycle spun down the aisle to the ring, his face covered by a visored helmet. He chased Boss McAlister around the ring, the white seersucker suit-clad Boss screaming at his pursuer. The distraction allowed Matty and Dukie Skinner to connect on a double dropkick that sent Henry Bennett to the mat. I counted to three while every other set of eyes in the arena were on Jakki Skinner, who’d jumped onto the back of the mystery biker’s motorcycle and jetted to the back.

Matty and Dukie Skinner leapt into the air excitedly, pumping their fists and accepting the tag team titles from ‘Mean’ Mark Green and ‘The Trailer Park Kid’ Mikey Montana, who were seated at ringside. As the other teams cleared out, the Skinner Brothers celebrated their victory with a few celebratory beers produced by Green and Montana.

As the Skinner Brothers left the ring, they were passed in the aisle by Jesse ‘The Power’ Christian, preparing for his title shot. He took a microphone. “What a damned fine sight, that,” he began, motioning at the departing Skinner Brothers. “That’s the feeling I want, right there. I want to be your champion. I know I’ve got one hell of a fight on my hands tonight. Krusher Karloff’s a Russian superman – there’s no one bigger or stronger. But I’ve got something Krusher doesn’t .” He pointed to his own chest. “I’ve got heart. And I’ve got the support of my hometown fans. I grew up just down the road; hell, I was basically raised on Beale Street. And tonight, I take my belt and embrace my destiny.”

Heavyweight Title Match: Jesse ‘The Power’ Christian v. Krusher Karloff © w/Sheik Mustafa

Billy’s Take:

With the heat Sheik Mustafa had built earlier by running down the crowd and Jesse Christian’s surprisingly evocative speech, Karloff was booed lustily when he came down to the ring, flexing his biceps while walking behind his flag-bearing associate. Christian looked focused, striding to the center of the ring to stand toe-to-toe with the Russian behemoth. Karloff stood a good six inches taller than Christian, though ‘The Power’ refused to look away. Once the match began, this was an intense contest – the two brutalizing one another with forearm shivers and power moves. At one point, Christian managed to lift Karloff into a ring-shaking German suplex, the crowd cheering this impressive feat of strength. This was a very close match and there were several times when it appeared as though Christian would pull it out. But when Christian made the mistake of trying to hoist Karloff into the Tennessee Torture Rack, he faltered enough to give the big Russian an opening. Shortly thereafter, Karloff ended it with a new move he’s dubbed the Karloff Krush, crunching Christian between himself and the corner turnbuckle in a giant avalanche.

Winner and STILL SCCW Heavyweight Champion: Krusher Karloff via Karloff Krush

Once more, Krusher Karloff stood in the ring, victorious and obviously savoring his victory as the crowd booed. Can he ever be stopped?

3/5 for Midnightnick. The tag team matches strike again!

Whistler v. The Masked Mauler

I see a confrontation between the Sheik and Whistler in the future

Dario Shelton v. Sheik Mustafa

Not even close.

Genghis Rahn/Chris Caulfield v. Joel Bryant/Rafael Ruiz

I have to think Caulfield is pretty over even before the east coast wars. That'll be the tipping point to continue the one-sided feud.

SCCW Tag Team Title Match: The Skinner Brothers v. The Hillbillies v. The McAlister Clan v. The Bluegrass Boys

Boss Man Brayfield gives the Clan a slight edge... plus heels can cheat.

SCCW Heavyweight Title Match: Jesse 'The Power' Christian v. Krusher Karloff ©

Krusher Karloff takes this one, way too early for 'The Power'.

KnowYourEnemy with a 3/5. And your points are spot on, except that Caulfield is a midcarder (Ruiz is actually a lower-midcarder) and so is not a huge deal *yet* in SCCW.

Whistler v. The Masked Mauler

Whistler needs some wins to seem credible- he's been a bit undercut by Karloff and Mustafa on the last couple of shows

Dario Shelton v. Sheik Mustafa

Going for a shock upset after Mustafa gets distracted by Whistler or Leon Williams

Genghis Rahn/Chris Caulfield v. Joel Bryant/Rafael Ruiz

I like 'em more

I'm presuming that Jakki's new boyfriend will be a difference-maker

SCCW Heavyweight Title Match: Jesse 'The Power' Christian v. Krusher Karloff ©

I'd have given the title to Whistler or Jesse straight off, but you've got the belt on Karloff and he needs a couple of more defences before he drops it

3/5 1PW. Looking back, I maybe should have given the belt to Christian or Whistler. Karloff is almost a better "special attraction" than champion. But we'll see!

4/5 for PS. The McAlisters are fun to write for...looking forward to the boyfriend angle working into the McAlister/Skinner clan war.

Whistler v. The Masked Mauler

- Whistler has a lot more upside than the man in the mask. Especially in Memphis.

Dario Shelton v. Sheik Mustafa

- Same reason as Whistler going over MM, only for the resident evil heel.

Genghis Rahn/Chris Caulfield v. Joel Bryant/Rafael Ruiz

- I Caulfield is the weak link here, Rahn and Byrant can build to a blow-off match. Sneer Corp through nefarious means!

SCCW Tag Team Title Match: The Skinner Brothers v. The Hillbillies v. The McAlister Clan v. The Bluegrass Boys

- Make the fans happy! As Jakki jumps up n' down to celebrate.

SCCW Heavyweight Title Match: Jesse 'The Power' Christian v. Krusher Karloff ©

- The Power cannot overcome the ruins of Soviet Russian. Karloff Krush! (Which should be one of his moves... corner avalanche maybe?)

5/5 Beeker, and you nailed the rationale as well. Damn you! :) Jakki does provide a little eye candy, and should play a bigger role soon...
