Welcome to the Awesome Nation

A ThunderVerse Project by Big Papa

Welcome to the ThunderVerse 2014!

Welcome the AWESOME NATION!

The Project

After ending my last WCW project, I wasn't sure I would ever take on another diary project. The writing bug was always there to some extent, but finding a story to tell... that was lacking. I explored a few ideas but always found them lacking before I ever got to the point of starting things. Which is probably for the best. Lack of time has also been an issue.

This one I've been toying with for quite some time, but it finally "clicked" when the ThunderVerse 2014 mod was released. I found a story I wanted tell and despite still somewhat lacking time, decided to take a swing at it.

Rather than sticking with the "monthly recap" style I used on the past couple of WCW projects, this one goes back to a full show style. I don't intend to do "full promos", at least not regularly. A few might get that treatment but most will be more of an overview. The first few shows will be more detailed as I work to establish the overall look and feel of the company. After that, they will hopefully become a bit more streamlined, which should make them easier to read as well. I've tried to create a vision of the company that goes beyond the pure in-ring product to an overall esthetic idea, which I will try to get across to you dear readers.

The front page here will be in my typical style, will full promotion detailed and it should be updated constantly.

The Mod

The ThunderVerse has recently been given official recognition and endorsement by Adam Ryland. That's a first for a fan-made mod and a huge tip of the hat. If you play TEW 2014 and haven't given the mod a try yet, you are definitely missing out.

Although the world of the Tverse is intended to stand on its, finding parlells to the world we know can help make it feel more real. The idea behind some of the characters comes from some real world talents, and the ethetic of the promotion as a whole comes partly from real promotions. I will try to avoid direct comparisons, like "Timothy Hawk is just John Cena" as its not that simple.

The Credits

First and foremost, to jhd1 and the entire ThunderVerse Team. MichiganHero and PhenomenalPat contributed with graphics, along with jhd1. Jim and Ed contributed with some booking ideas. Endless credit is also deserved by the great diary writers on this and other sites, who have I taken inspiration from, in addition to blatantly stealing ideas and formatting from. An incomplete list includes JamesCasey, TigerKinney, PhantomStranger, tristram, Self, NoNeck, Eisen-Verse, jhd1, angeldelayette, J Silver, BHK1978, sebplex and so many others.

</div></div><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Welcome to the ThunderVerse</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The ThunderVerse is a fictional universe created for TEW by the ThunderVerse Team. It features 66 companies, 34 of which are active, spread out over 4 game areas. There are nearly 1600 workers. It has a rich and detailed history, which is where this universe really comes to life. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Although one can draw parallels between this fictional universe and our real wrestling, there are key differences. Perhaps the most notable is that there is no single dominant promotion in the United States. Since the fall of the World Wide Wrestling Elite promotion in 2001, there are three promotions competing for the top spot - the traditional Championship Wrestling from Tennessee, the modern Pro Wrestling Integrity, and our subject here, the Awesome Wrestling Federation. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Beyond the wrestling world, the ThunderVerse resembles ours in most ways. But its not identical.</div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>A Brief History of the ThunderVerse</strong></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Although each game area - the United States, Canada, Japan, and Mexico - has its own detailed history, its the USA that we will focus on. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

From 1947 to 2001, the American wrestling scene - and the television airwaves - were dominated by the World Wide Wrestling Elite. The New York company was broadcast nationally, building its shows around big characters and fun story arcs, de-emphasizing the pure sporting aspects of the business. Other companies found it impossible to compete, forming the American Wrestling Council simply to stay in business. Through the years, the WWWE changed ownership many times but never lost its dominance. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

In 1984, the company was purchased by Turner Paige, a media mogul with global reach. He pushed the WWWE to new heights, spread-headed by new-found superstar Terry Thunder. The product was geared towards young fans more than ever, and the fans tuned in by the millions. The same year, the Real American Wrestling Alliance opened for business and it would become the greatest challenger the WWWE had ever faced. For a decade, the two companies battled over fans, ratings, and talent. Despite having fantastic talent like Guy Lothario and Richie Santana, RAWA would eventually lose the war. It closed its doors in 1994. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

That battle took a toll on the WWWE as well. The huge contracts that the company had handed out to steal talent from the RAWA created a financial mess that was compounded by dropping attendance and ratings. The product continued to be simplified with basic and cartoonish characters. The fans left in droves. In March 2001, the WWWE finally closed it doors. It was a shock when Turner Paige simply shut the company down rather than selling it on, as most had expected him to do. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The closure removed professional wrestling from the mainstream in America. Yet the business did not die. Former WWWE writer Shane Allman opened Pro Wrestling Integrity in 2002, focusing on the athletic competition rather than the characters and story arcs. The very traditional Championship Wrestling from Tennessee found a national audience with its old school approach. And in 2005, the AWF was opened by unrepentant WWWE fan Ezekiel Trillion. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Beyond the big three is a thriving scene of smaller companies from coast to coast, offering fans a wide variety of different approaches to wrestling.</div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Had Turner Paige decided to cash in on the WWWE at its low point at the turn of the millenium, Ezekiel Trillion would have been the most likely bidder. A dot.com billionaire thanks to his diverse TrillCorp, Trillion grew up on the WWWE of Terry Thunder. Although rumors began almost as soon as the WWWE shut its doors, it would not be until 2005 when Trillion opened his own promotion. Based in Hollywood, the company was given the name the Awesome Wrestling Federation and it took as many cues as possible from the WWWE.</div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

With a roster filled with former WWWE stars, the company found an immediate audience and filled auditoriums. But all of Trillion's billions couldn't get the company on national television. With major television networks avoiding WWWE-style wrestling due to the lingering stench of that companies demise, the AWF had to make due with weekly PPVs, syndicated television, and a variety of webcasts. By mid-1997, the AWF had established enough of its own brand and identify that it forged a partnership with the Adrenaline network, debuting Shockwave and moving to a monthly pay per view format. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

An obvious and enduring criticism of the AWF is that it is Ezekiel Trillion's vanity project. There is much truth in that, evidenced by the frequency of which the fanboy owner managed to appear on-screen. Although the company managed to avoid some of the more overt mistakes of its predecessor - notably the preponderance of "wrestlecrap" gimmicks and focusing the product on the youngest fans. The AWF targeted the 14-35 male demographic, pushing the boundaries of mainstream good taste with some edgy characters and storylines. But it never strayed far from the basic Sports Entertainment formula. With former WWWE color commentator Jerry "The Lawyer" King running the creative side of the company from 2009 through 2012, the AWF seemed to frustrate fans almost as much as it thrilled them. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

In 2012, Casey Skym returned to the company and was given the Head Booker position. The change to the company was not drastic - the addition of a women's division and the de-emphasis of the tag team division. In early 2013, Zeke Trillion stepped away from running his beloved vaneity project, leaving it in the hands of TrillCorp executive Dax Deekins and Skym. The man lovingly known as "The Zombie" has continued to exert his influence, leading up to a shocking invasion storyline in late 2013 that has seen talent from Pro-Wrestling: Superstars Uncensored and Xtreme (PW-SUX) show up on AWF television and spill blood. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

This might be a touch heavy-handed, as I hope to get most of these concepts across in the shows. But since I'm not sure how much all of them will come across, and most of it is kinda vital to the AWF "vision" I have, so...</div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

In terms of real world comparisons, there is no direct similar company. You can see some correlation to early 90s WCW if WCW had more stability, was more streamlined, and already used a more SE product. You could also compare it to TNA in some ways, but the AWF is not a distant #2 so there is no "little brother" syndrome. So if TNA had unlimited resources, outstanding production quality, significant brand recognition, and talent with WWE-levels of individual popularity... So yeah, its hard to directly compare it. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Product</strong></div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

So the Awesome Wrestling Federation is a Sports Entertainment company. That doesn't mean the product is simply exactly what the WWE or TNA present every week. It means that characters and stories are a primary focus. Its an edgy approach, with plenty of adult content and adult humor. That description may immediately raise thoughts of the Attitude Era, but so many key elements of the Attitude Era are absent. So perhaps a bit more like the Ruthless Aggression Era of WWE in that sense. Even that comparison can only go far, as there are some elements that I don't know have ever really been part of a major promtion. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The AWF directly embraces aspects such as the Hollywood connection and the fact that there is a very rich man bankrolling everything. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Production & Presentation</strong></div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

This is where the AWF really differentiates itself from any other companies in the ThunderVerse. With massive financial resources and direct Hollywood connections, the company is very cutting edge in terms of production values. It is also an area where the company continues to evolve and push the envelope. This is honestly an area where I feel like the WWE has gone stagnant as there is no one pushing them. Idea for the product and presentation are not been taken only from "real" wrestling (WWE and puroresu), but also MMA, other professional sports, game shows, and more. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Fans, Media & Social Media</strong></div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Given the Awesome Wrestling Federation is owned by TrillCorp, there is an emphasis on use of technology. From heavy use of streaming content on the webstie to integrating social media (notably Chatterbox, which is the Tverse version of Twitter) as much as possible. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The fan base is given the label of the Awesone Nation, but they go further with some things than the WWE does, actually pushing fans to form local "fan clubs" which play a role. They also function as street teams for the promotion. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

In regard to the media, the ThunderVerse is similar to our own in that professional wrestling is on the fringe of mainstream pop cultulre and so dedicated "wrestling media" is limited. But that hasn't stopped the AWF from working to subsidize what does exist, and then using it for things like post-show press conferences after bigger events. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Criticisms</strong></div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Smarky fans exist in the ThunderVerse, and I think the AWF would give them plenty of ammunition. A lot of "purists" would have issue with the mere existence of a company that is a rich fanboys vanity project, based heavily on a dead company, and uses so many of the WWWE's former stars. Despite having some great in-ring talent in the company, they aren't prone to getting the chance to simply go out and have great, long match on a regular basis. They happen, but some fans would find frustration that those great matches aren't the intended focus of the comapny and therefore happen less frequently than they could. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Not all of the criticism is valid, however. Or at least not still valid. The AWF has evolved over time, going from a vanity project and rip-off of the WWWE to something more substantial. It has created its own stars (Timothy Hawk, Towerblock, Vincent Parker, and Silva Dolla) who never wrestled for the WWWE at all. It has moved away from some of the "wrestle-crap" gimmicks that the WWWE was notorious for. The booking and storytelling has evolved and improved over time, especially with the change of head bookers in 2012. Yet many fans are still stuck on the negative aspects from its early years, much as many fans will talk about TNA's problems by mentioning stuff that was done years ago, making it clear they don't pay any attention to the current product. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Synopsis</strong></div></div><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">: the seeds of the storyline began in October of 2013, when Pro Wrestling Superstars Uncensored and Xtreme (PW-SUX) appeared in the crowd at AWF Shockwave, clearing wearing SUX gear. He was there again the following week. In November, he showed again, this time with friends from SUX. This "army" was soon audaciously attacking AWF wrestlers, giving the Awesome Nation a bloody nose. Led by charismatic and brooding Cross, the invaders proclaimed the greatness of SUX. The group somehow managed to consistently evade the myriad of AWF security officials and management took no efforts to keep them from the building. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

In December, much-hated AWF tag team The Enemies of the State "defected" and joined the invaders, giving the group a foothold within the company. The invaders took it to another level at the year-end Where Champions Clash pay per view, when they interfered in the semi main event between Timothy Hawk and Core, and then the AWF World Heavyweight championship match between champion Drake Richards and challenger Silva Dolla. The SUX invaders were instrumental in Silva winning the world title for the first time and that he remained untouched raises thoughts that he may have crossed the lines. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Despite spouting some pro-SUX rhetoric, the motivations and intent of the invading "army" remains murky at best. Unless some AWF superstars or company management put a stop to it, the group could have a significant impact on the Awesome Wrestling Federation in 2014.</div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:Georgia;"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Amazing! Looking forward to this new T-Verse diary! I can't wait to see how are you going to book AWF. Also, the presentation is great, the little flags besides the wrestlers, the entrance music. I always believe that the music gives so much in-depth details for a character (I'm a big fan of the entrance music on this game, in fact I have a Spotify playlist with music), so kudos to that.

<p>Admittedly, I don't know very much (if anything) about the Thunderverse. It's an awesome creation; however, with limited time, I've stuck with the Cornellverse pretty much exclusively. That said, I'm excited to dive into what you have here. </p><p> </p><p>

You are a writer I've always looked up to & truly value your work. I'll be here reading for sure!</p>

Whoa, that's a load of responses. Well, that makes an old war dog feel good about the new project.

Have a few posts in terms of "setting the stage" before we get to the meat n' potatoes. The meat being the first show and the potatoes being the vegetable (or the Not a Vegetable vegetable, depending on your perspective on the Great Potato Debate) that goes with the show... for some reason...

Will be following this one :). Looking forward to seeing your take on the AWF.

Thanks. Hoping I can manage to deliver a take on the company that lives up to the awesome mod that the Tverse team has given us.

Awesome start BP (no pun intended!). Great to see this up-and-running, and I can't wait to see how your plans take shape.

I'll take any puns I can get. You've been a big help on this one so the kudos go well beyond the work on mod and graphics help. Glad you're on board and hope to deliver a fun ride.

Thanks Andy. The main page is still under construction. I hope to have it fully fleshed out in a day or two, not just the pieces that are done already. I completely agree on music - I think it helps pull things together and helps me to visualize how a given worker would look coming down to the ring for a match. I honestly end up putting way too much thought into picking some of the entrance themes but its (usually) a fun process.

You are a writer I've always looked up to & truly value your work. I'll be here reading for sure!

Appreciate the kind words, E-V, and always glad to have you on board for the ride. Hoping that I can bring the ThunderVerse to life for some readers and maybe get a few more people giving it a try. A heads up warning - I might be stealing a few formatting ideas from your SWF project. I do try to keep up with it.

Nice to see this finally get on the road BP, looking forward to seeing how you take AWF into the future.

Glad to have you on board, MH. Seems like I've been in planning stages of this one forever. Maybe not quite that long, but close. And its not me taking the AWF into the future... Its Mr. Skym and Mr. Chaperone...

Always game for a new Thunderverse diary and I'm looking forward to finally getting to read some of your work. Especially with this interesting scenario the AWF find themselves in at the start of the game.

Thanks. Its the invasion situation the really got me thinking seriously about making another diary project. Started to really put some thought into the planning and it just felt right. I have been kinda really disappointed in the stamina of my last couple of projects and hope to make up for those with this one.

Not too familiar with Thunderverse either, but I've been waiting for a new BP project for a while - after all, your SWF threads/diary partly inspired me to get into diary writing. Looking forward to seeing your twist on this! Quite obviously marking out for Ricky Fyre, since he's the Thunderverse doppelganger of KP Avatar. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

<p>Just another 'great to see this project up and running' post. As I replied to your post in the preview thread, I'm keen to see how you tackle several of the AWF's talents and make them your own.</p><p> </p><p>

On a sidenote, I loved using and writing for Casey Skym in my Club diary, but sadly jhd locked him down to AWF in the next update so I can't use him anymore <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />. His bio and render bring obvious Foley comparisons, but as a potentially unstable authority figure, I think he's got a lot of mileage. Not that I think you'll necessarily go in that direction, but when the SUX invasion scenario was drawn up, I could realistically see Skym losing his head trying to manage it as the violence around him intensifies, which from a booking perspective gives you all sorts of routes to go down.</p><p> </p><p>

But yeah, enough of my rambling. Good luck with this BP, I'll be reading.</p>

Which I realize might frustrate some readers who just want shows, I love the interaction, though. Its one of my favorite parts of having an active project. </p><p> </p><p> Skym is a fun character. Its definitely easy to just basically use Mick Foley as a base, but there is so much other potential there. I've tried to avoid the obvious characterizations in at least some cases. There were a few tempting directions with Skym, such as having him be very disparate in his personality - a wild-man when he was in the ring, but extremelly well-spoken, articulate, calm, and obviously intelligent when speaking otherwise. I figured it would be comical given his appearance. Skym is definitely a significant catalyst for a lot of things that will happen going forward. A lot. </p><p> </p><p> I don't know that all that many of my characterizations will surprise you readers... but I hope a few will. I definitely spent a lot of time coming up with some options and choices that I think weren't obvious, or likely intended. </p><p> </p><p> Speaking of your Club project, I did go back and take a look through all of the Tverse projects I am aware of. Many of them I read while they were on-going but a few I missed. Yours was one I missed. Good read, though, and too bad it didn't last longer. It was a great take. And I may have stolen a thing or two....</p>

A Silva Moment

By Brian Jack

Monday Week 1 January, 2014

There are two kinds of people in this world – those who can admit when they are wrong and those who can’t. Despite the claims of some of my more negative readers and naysayers, Brian Jack is a man who can admit when he’s wrong. It’s just not a situation that happens very frequently.

I have justifiably been critical of the whole “SUX Invasion” story angle that Skym has shoved down fans throats for months now. While some fans and “critics” choose to ignore the obvious logic gaps and problems with the whole thing, my job is to point out the problems. And there have been plenty.

Even a shallow, silly, illogical story can sometimes have its good moments. Even its great moments. And Skym somehow managed to hit on one of those last night.

If you are enough of a wrestling fan to be reading this, you cannot be ignorant of the fact that Silva Dolla won the AWF World Heavyweights title last night, and he did so after interference from Cross’ SUX invaders. The fans in LA hated the moment, going so far as to throw trash into the ring as Silva celebrated. It was easily the strongest reaction to a heel turn that has been seen in American wrestling for a long time.

The moment where Silva took advantage of a downed and bloodied Drake Richards to claim his first world championship, it was a decisive heel turn that ended a long gradual turn, where the first signs can be traced back almost a year. Even better, it was the end of a 9 year climb up the card by Dolla, who was an opening match jobber on the first very AWF card in January of 2005. Whilst am I not fond of the AWF’s habit of running feuds between fan favorites as they tend to do, rather than actually turning one of the workers in question heel, it did work well here. Had Skym turned Dolla earlier in his threeway feud with Timothy Hawk and Drake Richards, it would have made this moment impossible. And make no mistake, this was a big moment for Silva Dolla and for the company.

A ring full of garbage may strike some as an odd positive on which to move into a new year. Yet it is indeed a very positive thing. Trust The Jack on this one. Unless Skym does something stupid like has the decision reversed, the AWF will start 2014 with a world champion who has a ton of momentum. I have faith Skym and the company will manage to screw this up, but they deserve props for making the heel turn work.

Where Champions Clash 2013 is proof positive that even an idiot like Skym can get things right. On occasion.

And that, folks, is the Jack word.

Monday Week 1 January, 2014</strong></span></div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div><p></p><p></p><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k235/Bigpapa42_2006/ThunderVerse/Logos/Stable/PWSUXArmy_zpsff6de1c2.png</span></div><p></p><p></p><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Invasion angles have long fascinated fans. The idea of cross-promotion and wrestlers from one promotion invading another was certain prevalent during the WWWE versus RAWA war of the 80s and 90s, with pre-Internet dirt sheets often running with fantasy booking scenarios. Such ventures have actually been attempted a few times but have rarely found much success. Egos often get in the way, and the idea of promoting another companies talent on your shows is a risky business decision.</div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Perhaps that’s why the Pro-Wrestling: Superstars Uncensored and Xtreme talent that has been “invading” the AWF for the past few months has grabbed the attention of fans so effectively. Even fans who normally ignore the Sports Entertainment soap opera of the AWF have taken notice.</div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The intent here is not to fantasy book where the angle might be going. And both companies have confirmed that it’s a cross-promotion, so there will be no further blind and illogical discussion of it “being real”. Rather, what has made it successful thus far?</div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

There are some logistical considerations one must take into account in planning such an angle. How much will the fans of one promotion recognize talent from another promotion? How will the outsiders be made to look threatening? How will the drama be generated and kept fresh?</div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

PW-SUX is a company with a fanbase that is a mere fraction of that enjoyed by the AWF. Considering that, very few AWF fans knew who the invaders were or even what SUX was. It has been three months since Cross first showed up on AWF TV, and two months since the invasion began, and the AWF has yet to name any of the wrestlers in any official broadcast or publication, nor directly mention SUX. Yet the prominence of the invaders makes them impossible to ignore. The AWF has relied on social media and the Internet to spread the word and its thus far worked extremely well. There are not many in the Awesome Nation who don’t know who Cross is, and most could put names to all his SUX invasion associates. Every fan knows this group comes from the SUX promotion in Philly.</div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Making the invaders look dangerous has not really been a concern. Their guerrilla tactics and random attacks have kept fans guessing and made them look like a true threat. Whilst the name value of the individual wrestlers is not significant, their impact as a group has been undeniable.</div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Those guerrilla tactics are also a cause for some criticism amongst fans. Between somehow always having premium seats, constantly managing to get past the myriad of AWF security personnel, and never having any actions taken by AWF management, the logic falls apart for some fans. Which is a touch ironic, since the AWF’s own announce team has been pointing out these issues for weeks, as well as many AWF contracted wrestlers taking to Chatterbox to voice their concerns to AWF management about the lack of action and inept security. There is a burgeoning “inside man” theory that the AWF seems to be intentionally playing into.</div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Inside man or not, the intentions of the invaders have not yet been made clear. Cross has taken the microphone number of times, hyping up SUX and his compatriots and proclaiming the fall of the AWF. But it feels as if true reason for the invasion has yet to be made clear. If the naysayers are correct, then there is no “bigger picture” and the muddled statements from Cross are all we will get. Given the booking prowess that Casey Skym has shown over the past couple of years, and given the apparent lack of oversight he enjoys right now, this fan tends towards the more positive outlook on where things will go from here.</div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The AWF makes no bones about the fact that its product is based on the WWWE. It has suffered from some of the same malaise that caused the demise of the WWWE, including a lack of patience to allow storylines to unfold in a slow and gradual manner. Things get hotshotted at times and the story arcs suffer for it. That has rarely been an issue since Skym took over creative duties and as long as there are not outside influences, we fans should get to see this particular SUX drama play out as intended. For as much criticism as the AWF takes for being a “WWWE clone” and a rich man’s vanity project, an angle like this never would have been proposed in the WWWE halls, let alone actually come to fruition.</div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Fans should enjoy the ride on this one. It’s not perfect and it has flaws, but its unique storytelling and it’s something different. Moreover, the level of trust and cooperation that it takes between two companies that are, nominally, in competition with each other means that it’s not a situation that may happen again anytime soon. </div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman';"></span></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">
