WWE 2014: Changing of the Guard

</p><div style="text-align:left;"><p>WWE Smackdown opens with a segment where Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins warn Evolution that on Sunday, Roman Reigns is set to destroy not only the lives but the legacy of Evolution. They foretell that Payback will be had.</p><p> </p><p>

Next up on the show was video recapping the events that unfilded between Bray Wyatt and Dolph Ziggler, this is used to explain the dissapearance of Wyatt from TV due to repairing his teeth which were visibly missing from the crues onslaught from Ziggler.</p><p> </p><p>

The first match saw The Rhodes Dynasty and Paige pick up a win over 3MB and AJ Lee. The finish came as an over confident Slater took too long air guitaring and was hit with the Cross Rhodes from Cody. AJ Lee looked irate afterwards as the three winners celebrate and they welcome Saraya into the ring from her managerial role on the oustide.</p><p> </p><p>

Next on the show we see Dolph Ziggler standing in the parking lot and Renee Young is trying to get her interview about Bray Wyatt but he seems to shrug her off again and tells her that he’s busy. But into shot walks Aaron Rodgers who throws a ball through a tire standing in the empty parking lot and Renee looks impressed. But before they cut away Dolph says wait and throws his own ball through the same tire and it bounces after hitting the ground, only to fall into a bucket off water a few feet behind the tyre. Dolph turns to the camera and says “Now that’s Perfect”</p><p> </p><p>

The next match saw Adrien Neville team with Cesaro and pick up an unlikely win over Big Show and Rey Mysterio. Despite the win however Big Show and Mysterio dominated throughout, we even saw Mysterio leap off the shoulders of Show onto Neville but it wasn’t enough and the losers were stunned when Neville landed the Red Arrow onto Rey for the three count.</p><p> </p><p>

Next up we see The Rhodes Dynasty celebrating there win until Renee Young walk in and ask them if they are ready for Sundays four way tag team match. They say they are and that whoever The Miz has for a tag team partner will not come close to the calibre of the Rhodes Dynast, Pitbulls or the Usos!</p><p> </p><p>

Next on the show we had Dolph Ziggler pick up what looked like an easy win much to the grumbles of Del Rio who knows his time in WWE is slowly coming to an end. Dolphs style still seems to be evolving into a that of a ring practitioner. At the end of the match we saw The Wyatt family with the exception of Bray come down to the ring and warn Dolph that the truth is coming and its coming Sunday! </p><p> </p><p>

In the next angle we had Daniel Bryan talking to Renee Young about his clash with Mark Henry in a few minutes and told him that one on one; Bryan is untouchable within the squared circle.</p><p> </p><p>

The main event of the night saw the match made on Monday; Bryan vs. Barrett vs. Henry vs. Sheamus. The curse that is plagueing Sheamus is still plain to see to everyone as he was pinned by the WWE World Heavyweight champion. Throughout the match we had Wade Barrett proving he is main event calibre.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

The massive pyrotechnics welcome the fans to WWE Payback 2014 and we are instantly taken to the commentary table.

 

Michael Cole: Welcome ladies and Gentleman to the WWE’s annual Payback Pay-per view here on the WWE Network and around the world. I am joined tonight by my broadcast colleagues; John “Bradshaw” Layfield and the British Broadcasting Behemoth; William Regal.

 

William Regal laughs and begins to speak: Wow what an introduction and what a show we have for you tonight. We have Sheamus trying to pick up his first victory in months as he faces off one on one with Wade Barrett.

 

John Layfield: That’s correct William and speaking of the British members on our roster, but tonight we see Paige trying to finally overcome the dirty tactics of Diva’s Champion; AJ Lee.

 

Michael Cole: That’s right, so lets not waste another minute and get the show on the road!

The camera cuts to the entrance ramp to which three teams enter the ring and finally we hear the music of The Miz. He saunters down to the ring looking overly confident as he anticipates a big win tonight for him and his new tag team partner who still remains a mystery. He stands at the foot of the ramp and waits for his partners music to play, it doesn’t. He stands looking very very worried and the referee tells him that he cannot partake in the match as it is under tag team rules. The Miz insists that his partner will be here and tells the referee to ask the other teams if they are willing to let him compete on his own. They agree and the match begins. Throughout the early going of the match The Miz was constantly tagged in but somehow managed to get out of dodge and tag in another team. It comes down to the final two teams, The Miz and the Rhodes Dynasty are left. As The Miz enters the ring he looks around nervously and as he goes to lock up he backs off and leaves the ring. Much to the annoyance of the crowd, The Miz threatens to leaves the arena but as he does a familiar song blasts throughout the arena and he stands grinning from cheek to cheek…

 

 

The camera is slowed down to show the return of John Morrison in full slow motion in HD and he struts down to the ring looking happy to be back and at the bottom of the ramp he high fives The Miz and they storm the ring. The match goes for a couple of minutes until Morrison isolates Cody Rhodes in his half of the ring and they pick up the victory when he smashes him with the Nitro Blast and sends him into the arms of The Miz who hits him with the Reality Check for the three count. Goldust tried getting into the ring before the three count was called but couldn’t make it in time and The Miz and Morrison were crowned the winners and new number one contenders.

Next on the show we saw a video playing the recent encounter of Bray Wyatt and Dolph Ziggler including the frank warning from Bray that he would break down the façade of Ziggler. Also shown was the warning that the truth was coming for Dolph tonight on Payback.

The camera cuts back from the video package and in the ring already is Adrien Neville the former NXT Champion. He is waiting for Rey Mysterio who has taken exceptions to his behaviour and harsh beat down of long time friend; RVD causing him to be severely injured. Rey enters the ring and the match begins, it goes for several minutes and they seem to have put together a great match and contrary to popular belief a one that didn’t revolve heavily around high spots. The finish came as a dominant Mysterio dropped him between the middle and top rope setting him up for the 619. But as he went to land it to the face of Neville, Adrien moved and Mysterio went dizzily through the ropes before faintly walking into a Super Kick. Mysterio dropped to the canvas and Neville clambered to the top rope looking visibly worse for wear, as he made it to the top, the arrogance was plain to see and he yelled to the crowd “I DON’T CARE!” before landing his imploding 450 splash.

We go straight to the back where a shaky cameraman is following Dolph Ziggler throughout the back corridors and his recent overconfidence is clearly missing from his demeanour. He walks around asking everyone he sees if they have seen Bray Wyatt. Everyone replies with a no until he opens a random fire door and walks out looking out at each side of the door. A darkened silhouette is standing under a street lamp and Dolph marches straight towards it, he places his hand on their back and they turn around instantly. Standing there is a man dressed in a Doctors Mask from the black plague era and they laugh before speaking:

 

Silhoutte: Hahahahaha. Hahahahaha. Hahahaha. Nick Nemeth, the truth is comnig. The end of your world is coming. Dolph Ziggler… The Plague is coming tonight!!! Hahahaha. Hahahah. Hahahaha. Follow. The. Buzzards!

The camera cuts to black before finally coming back to the ring where the next match is about to begin. A long built rematch between AJ Lee and Paige is about to happen and this time Paige’s mother is managing her shouting help and advice. This advice seemed to work as after around 8 minutes of poor wrestling; Paige came out on top and won her first major American Wrestling title; the Divas Championship from AJ Lee. Paige looked overwhelmed at her victory and as soon as her hand was raised by the official she fell to the canvas in pure disbelief at finally making and making her dreams come true. Not only that but she celebrated with her mum which was a touching sentiment to the WWE Universe who gave a raucous applause. The finish of the match came as Saraya spotted Lee trying to hold the tights of Paige and screamed at the referee to look which distracted the cheating champion allowing Paige to break the pin and hit her with the Paige Turner for the three count.

The next match saw the culmination of a two month feud between the Intercontinental Champion; Cesaro and the Big Show. The match went for around 10 minutes before Cesaro picked up a major win, the finish of the match came as Cesaro tried to hit Show over the head with the remnants of his Battle Royal trophy, only for the referee to grab it from his hands and throw it to the outside. This gave Cesaro the chance to drop to his knees and low blow his challenger and as the referee turned around Cesaro steps back allowing the giant to drop to his knees like a redwood dropping in a forest. But as he does Cesaro doesn’t go for the pin, he looks over at Heyman who has been mentoring him for weeks and Paul signals with one finger pointing into the sky and rotates it in an anti-clockwise fashion. Cesaro nods. Grabs the legs. Spins the Worlds Largest Athlete around the ring and lets go with his Big Swing before pinning him with a 3 count.

The camera pans around the arena and finally zooms into the announcers table and they begin speaking to the camera.

 

Michael Cole: Wow! Can you believe what has happened tonight!?

 

William Regal: I know Cole, already we have saw the return of John Morrison, new number one contenders to the WWE Tag Titles. But more importantly! We have seen Paige become the newest WWE Diva’s Champion!

 

John Layfield: The good thing about that is that we are only half through WWE Payback! But next up we have The “Irish Curse” Sheamus against Wade Barrett!

 

Michael Cole: Yes, John and if anything it is Sheamus that has been cursed by the Irish, HE just cannot seem to pick up a single victory over, well just about anyone!

 

William Regal: That’s right and he has to face Wade Barrett one on one and that match is next!

 

The camera cuts to the ring and the match goes for around 17 minutes until Barrett picks up the win over the Irish Curse. But it didn’t come easy as throughout the match, Sheamus seemed to be getting stiffer and stiffer with his strikes. Until finally Wade had enough and removed his elbow pad and hit Sheamus with his several bull hammer elbows until he couldn’t even open his eyes.

A video package is shown of the past weeks encounters between the Shield and Evolution. The main highlight was showing the decimation of Roman Reigns and the aftermath and focussed on the rebuilt battle scarred Reigns who looked dangerous.

 

Afterwards we are taken to the ring and watch the entrance of the two teams, the juxtaposition was ever present as Evolution walk out to a glittering pyro looking well groomed and ready to teach the young guns a thing or two. Whereas The Shield enter with there theme from the crowd look like members of an underground army with there black vests and cargo trousers and boots. But its only two members of the group and they stand on the barricade beside the time keeper and point across the arena to a fire exit and through the PA system comes the voices of Rollins and Ambrose who each in there turn say their own name and finally, Roman Reigns shouts his down the PA and an enormous pyro display erupts above the ring and pours down on Evolution as the camera cuts to the doorway again and the stands Reigns looking terrifying with back lighting from the Emergency door.

 

The match goes for around 17 minutes until it is Roman Reigns opposite the ring from Triple H who is holding a sledge hammer. Reigns urges Hunter to hit him and the referee tries to intervene only to be shoved to the ground and out of the ring. Both men stand staring at each other until Reigns signals at him again. Hunter obliges but misses! Reigns ducks the blow, sprints off the opposite rope and back towards the Game before sending him to the mat with a spear. Pin! 1…2…3! But No!! The referee is only just regaining his consciousness and as he comes to Reigns slaps some life into him but this goes the wrong way and the referee calls for the bell and disqualifies the Shield. Triple H lies in the corner of the ring looking like he’d been hit with a freight train. But Reigns stands with his head held high after overcoming the odds over the past few weeks and showing he can hang with the main eventers. Soon he is joined by the other two members of the Shield.

We are taken to the back where we see Dolph Ziggler still walking around until finally heading towards the ring. He walks down the ramp looking over his shoulders every other step until making it into the ring.

 

Dolph Ziggler: Enough! Enough of this! Bray! You sent a message saying that the truth is coming and its coming at Payback. Well Bray Wyatt, its Payback, I’m here. Come and give me the truth!

 

Dolph stands looking nervously at the entrance way but he stands in silence, with just murmurings from the crowd as he waits. But nothing! Slowly Dolph looks to be cracking a smile.

 

Dolph Ziggler: That’s right! I thought you wouldn’t show up. You must be too scared of having you teeth rammed down you throat…AGAIN!

 

Dolph stands in the centre of the ring smiling and he goes to the outside, looks under the ring and pulls out a soccer ball. He re-enters the ring and starts doing kick-ups looking proud of himself he lifts the microphone to his move and begins to speak.

 

Dolph Ziggler: You see Bray, I am the great athlete that has ever entered the ring. Hell I’m the best best at anything you can put in front of me! You could say that I am Perrrrrff….

 

The power goes out, the only light coming from the camera flashes from mobile phones throughout the arena and onto the screen appears the doctors mask from earlier in the night.

 

The Doctor: Hahahaha, Hahahaha. Hahahaha. Nick Nemeth the time to end the lies is over. Nick Nemeth the time to repent your sins is over. Nick Nemeth the time for the truth is NOW! Hahahahaha. Nick Nemeth…

 

The Doctor removes his mask and standing there is a deformed looking Bray Wyatt, his mouth is missing most, if not all of his teeth. His right eye is sealed shut with the swelling caused by Dolph Ziggler.

 

Bray Wyatt: We’re HERE!

 

Bray Wyatts theme sounds throughout the arena and the darkness is illuminated with the lantern. The Wyatt family slowly and eerily walk towards Dolph Ziggler who is stood in fear in the middle of the ring looking too scared to move. Finally Bray, Rowan and Harper stop at the foot of the ramp and they turn to look at the top of the ramp. This is where a rocking chair now stands with one solemn lamp lighting it up.

 

Bray Wyatt: Nick Nemeth, I am here to tell the world the truth. The truth about the man they hold so dearly. The man they want to one day become king of the mountain. The man they think is “Perfect!” Well listen up and listen gooood. You see Nick Nemeth is not perfect, he is hiding something. He is hiding a dark secret. A deep dark moment from his childhood. I know it. He knows it. He tried breaking each and every one of ma teeth so I couldn’t tell you fine people about it.

 

Dolph Ziggler: Don’t do this Bray or I swear to god!

 

Bray Wyatt: Your God can’t save you now boy! Nick…Or should I call you Nicky!?

 

Dolph stands in the ring motionless and expressionless until Bray says Nicky again to which his face drops and his bottom lip starts to quiver in fear.

 

Bray Wyatt: Nicky… That there chair shouldn’t be empty…Nicky that chair was the chair ma Sister Becky used to sit in. You remember Becky don’t ya?

 

Dolph Ziggler: Bray, I’m begging you. You don’t need to do this!?

 

Bray Wyatt: Oh Nicky but Ah do! Nicky you took my innocent sixteen year old sister and you took away her beautiful good looks! You took my sisters face and you pressed it against the fire. You disfigured her so much that the children at school would laugh and poke fun at her.

 

Dolph Ziggler: I didn’t! I wouldn’t! I lov…

Bray Wyatt: Enough! Enough of your lies. You see the problem with secrets and lies, Nicky…They don’t stay hidden…You know what else doesn’t stay hidden! Memories! The memory of what you did to ma baby sister Rebecca! That! That lives and breathes inside of YOU!

 

Dolph Ziggler has heard enough and before Bray has a chance to finish his story, Dolph is out of the ring and attacking him in similar fashion as he had done previously this moth. As he is attacking him a higher pitched laughter is heard and Dolph stops instantly. He slowly backs up towards the ring staring up at the rocking chair. It is now rocking back and fourth slowly with a womanly shadow sitting upon it.

 

Bray stands back up and issues the statement: She is coming! Follow The Buzzards!!!

Finally it’s the main event between Daniel Bryan and Mark Henry, this match goes for around 15 minutes at the most. By the end of it it was clear who the winner was going to be as throughout the match, Mark Henry could not keep up with the younger and fitter champion. But this seemed to annoyed Bryan who is used to having himself pushed beyond his limits. The finish came as he tried as Bryan went for a running crossbody to Mark Henry but is caught and Henry stomped around the ring showing his strength but wasn’t able to slam the champion down and instead took two hard and stiff elbows to the face. Henry drops to his knees and takes a devastating looking YES Kick to head and Bryan pins for the three count.
