From Backyard Zero to World Hero

I wanted to inaugurate my purchase of TEW 2013 by publishing a dynasty on the GDS forums. But how would mine stand out? Well, I love the Over 9000-verse AND I love crazy challenges. I'm going to mash together Backyard to Global, Road to Glory, and the old Heidenreich Challenge. For those who have forgotten, the gist of the Heidenreich Challenge was to create a new worker who was extremely entertaining but a bag of sand in the ring. No in-ring or performance skills, max everything else. The goal was to get him from jobber to main event in a national fed. And he had to wrestle.

 

I had to modify the Heidenreich Challenge a bit to update it for TEW 2013. Looks has been replaced by Sex Appeal, so I compromised and made his Sex Appeal 50. I don't think gimmick skills were around during the original challenge, so I used the Road to Glory rules for gimmick skills - 100 points for face/heel, 350 points for the rest.

 

One annoying problem this challenge had was that once you started getting him over, he'd get stolen and you had to steal him back. Unless you were playing the top fed, good luck! Combined with Road to Glory, this resulted either in long, boring games or short, frustrating ones. My solution: make him your user character! This has a the side benefit of being able to train him in dark matches without spending extra money.

 

Another thing I'm doing is using the Mystery Box from Road to Glory. Rolls that add to physical or entertaining skills will be rerolled. I've chosen balanced user talents.

 

I like starting in empty regions. Spillover isn't important at the start, but I don't like the competition sitting on my doorstep. Australia, Europe, Canada, and Mexico seem like good choices. But then I saw these (I can't find the threads they were posted in but I'm fairly certain they were free to use. Off to the Prairies I go! To support my entertaining bag of sand, WCCW is a canned Sports Entertainment fed. I will probably adjust the product as the company grows, but popularity>performance is definitely the way to go here. Sponsors will also be very important. Because I'm starting in the Prairies in the Over 9000-verse, no venues are under $1000.

I found 11 workers to hire. Three are freelancers, and one of those freelancers is a woman. I shortlisted a number of E+ region pop workers to replace them. Many of them will likely be picked up by bigger feds, so that's why I'm shortlisting them now.

 

With 12 workers including myself, I am done hiring. No announcer, road agent, or referee is needed. So the next post will be my starting roster.

Before he can say anything, Northstar, Sasquatch, and Fatman come down to the ring. Sasquatch growls at a little girl in the audience, making her cry. Fatman adds insult to injury by grabbing her soda out of her hand, taking a drink, then throwing it on the floor. He yells at her for it being diet soda.

Sasquatch vs Savage Dragon

It is an even match most of the way, with neither wrestler gaining the upper hand. Tired of seeing this, Northstar says something to Fatman, who moves to the other side of the ring. Northstar gets up on the ring apron. The referee sees him and prevents him from entering the ring. The two argue, with the referee threatening to have Northstar fined. Meanwhile, Fatman enters the ring. Savage Dragon is surprised by his sneak attack and floored. Fatman climbs out of the ring before the referee can turn around. Sasquatch pins his unconscious opponent and the referee counts to 3. He is declared the winner. His friends climb into the ring to celebrate with him as the crowd boos louder than ever.

In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, Savage Dragon defeated Sasquatch in 9:39 when Sasquatch was disqualified when Fatman ran in and attacked Savage Dragon.

Because the title doesn't change hands on a DQ, there will still have to be a rematch again next month.
