sportsfanmas
I have decided to go ahead and do a single player dynasty, but it's not going to be your play em out type dynasty. I will be focusing on Mike Schaplowsky, who I will be starting out with a coach level of 7, so he'll have lots of room to improve. The difference is I'll be simming every game, but I will be handling recruiting, depth chart, and team strategy. I plan on starting with a team in a conference that has a prestige of 1. I will look to get job offers with higher prestige conferences and schools. I plan on monthly reports for this dynasty, and I will use Mike Schaplowsky for 40 years, at which time he will retire and I will see how he fits into the coaching leaderboard. More updates later, I have to pick a team and get it set up, but I plan on getting at least part of a season in tonight. With simming games and monthly reports, I could get through a season fairly quick, but with other projects going on, I expect the 40 in-game seasons to span well over a few months. sportsfanmas
Mike Schaplowsky has been hired as the new head coach at Lamar, replacing Pat Knight. Lamar plays in the Southland Conference. This is Schaplowsky's first D1 coaching job, and he has set a goal to coach for 40 years. That would mean that the 34 year old Schaplowsky will plan on retiring when he is 74. Good luck to him! I have limited conference movement on, and players can't go to the NBA until after their sophomore year. Out of 240 points, I have set 90 for defense, as I want to be a defensive minded coach right out of the gate, 45 for offense, 75 for recruiting and 30 for scouting. My staff has been hired. Michel Ostrowski is my recruiting coordinator and we will look to improve on this position next season, as his recruiting rating is only 19. Bryan Lafollete is my scouting director, he's a good hire, as he has a scouting rating of 39. Wayne Purifoy is my coaching assistant with an offense rating of 48. His defense rating is only 13, but that's ok, he's here to help run the offensive side of things.
sportsfanmas
We were invited to the Tennessee Challenge as the #3 seed, which I gladly accepted. This is a 4 team tourney running from Nov. 16-18, 2014. July 2014 Recruiting We have 4 scholarships to fill, and 3 of those 4 will be post players, as we lose 2 centers and a PF after this season. We'll also be looking for a SG. sportsfanmas
As we start the 2014-2015 season, I have an average hotseat rating, and the goal is to finish with at least a .500 conference record. Should be doable. November 2014 Recruiting Well it's back to the beginning as far as the recruiting trail goes. All 4 of the guys I had offered scholarships to signed elsewhere. Here's a look at the new call list which now has 10 players on it: LAMAR Recruiting Name Pos Ht Wt Rating Interest State -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Adan Chapa SG 6-1 197 *** Very High Texas Gregg Davy SG 6-1 179 *** Very High Texas David Lovely SG 6-3 177 ** High Texas Werther Schweikert SG 6-1 182 ** High Germany Michael Reyna C 6-9 234 **** Average New Jersey Mathew Steen C 6-8 210 *** Average Texas Weldon Boynton SG 6-6 192 *** Average Texas Charles Rojas SG 6-1 182 *** Average Texas Dave Jahnke C 6-7 224 *** Average Louisiana Jae Perez SF 6-5 202 *** Low Texas Chapa and Davy are receiving scholarship offers this month. Davy will get a visit from me, while Chapa will visit the campus. Even though it's a longshot, I've still went ahead and offered Reyna a scholarhip, and I've decided to visit him, but I don't see us beating out UConn or Villanova. The 4th scholarship I'm leaving open for now. November 2014 Games Nov. 16, 2014 Tennessee Challenge- (2) Bowling Green (0-0) vs. (3) Lamar (0-0) Final Score: Bowling Green- 57, Lamar- 49 -- We actually led this one by 8 at halftime, but they turned up the D in the second half holding us to just 17 second half points. Claud Lingerfelt was our leading scorer with 18. Nov. 18, 2014 Tennessee Challenge Third Place Game- (4) Idaho (0-1) vs. (3) Lamar (0-1) Final Score: Idaho- 57, Lamar- 29 -- Ouch, we forgot to show up for this one tonight. We committed 19 turnovers and they shot 32 free throws to our 15. It was ugly. Nov. 23, 2014 Southern (0-1) @ Lamar (0-2) Final Score: Southern- 51, Lamar- 36 -- Offensively this team is horrible. We shot just 35% from the field and 42.9% from the line. Won't win many games that way. Nov. 27, 2014 Texas Southern (1-1) @ Lamar (0-3) Final Score: Lamar- 43, Texas Southern- 41 -- I have my first win as a coach, and I hope the first of many. sportsfanmas
Dec. 2014 Recruiting As expected, Reyna signed with UConn, but we did pick up our first recruit in Davy, and that's a big pick-up. The call list right now involves only the 3 players we have offered scholarships to: Chapa, Steen, and Jahnke. All of them are either being visited or visiting the campus this month. Dec. 2014 Games Dec. 4, 2014 Louisiana Tech (1-2) @ Lamar (1-3) Final Score: LA Tech- 65, Lamar- 60 (OT) -- I am very pleased at the effort in this one, as I really expected us to lose this one by double digits. We actually led at halftime, but couldn't hang on. Turnovers did us in again, we committed 17. Hopefully taking them to OT will give the guys a confidence boost. Dec. 7, 2014 Lamar (1-4) @ Tulane (4-0) Final Score: Lamar- 54, Tulane- 45 -- I'm as shocked as the rest of you reading this. Another game where we should have been clearly overmatched and we hung in and pulled away late. Charles Halpin was a beast for us tonight, scoring 20. Dec. 12, 2014 Lamar (2-4) @ Colorado (2-4) Final Score: Lamar- 55, Colorado- 53 -- Don't ask me what's going on, but I'm not going to complain. We led by 10 at halftime and committed just 7 turnovers. Charles Halpin led us again with 18 points. We have lost Lucius Jeffcoat for 8 days due to injury. Ethan Abad will start our next game at the center spot. Dec. 17, 2014 Lamar (3-4) @ Florida Gulf Coast (4-3) Final Score: FGCU- 58, Lamar- 36 -- Ah, back down to earth we are we are. Shooting 32.6% and scoring just 11 second half points after trailing by just 1 at halftime, what a letdown. Dec. 21, 2014 Lamar (3-5) @ Denver (1-8) Final Score: Lamar- 66, Denver- 42 -- No problem in this one as we rolled over an overmatched Denver team, holding them to just 29.1% shooting. Charles Halpin led us in scoring with 18, but David Daily added 10, and welcome back Lucius Jeffcoat who scored 13 points and pulled down 14 boards. Dec. 25, 2014 Lamar (4-5) @ Rice (3-6) Final Score: Rice- 48, Lamar- 45 -- A tough one, as we couldn't hang on late. They scored the last 8 points as we led 45-40 with 2 minutes to go. sportsfanmas
Jan. 2015 Recruiting Steen and Jahnke both declined our scholarship offers, so it's back to the drawing board. Me and coach Ostrowski will go visit Chapa again, as I think we have a very good shot to get him. I've decided to look at a 2 star center, Maximo Stevens out of Louisiana. Nobody is looking at him right now, and a 2 star recruit is better than nothing. Jan. 2015 Games Jan. 2, 2015 Lamar (4-6) @ Houston (9-2) Final Score: Houston- 63, Lamar- 56 -- Pleased we kept it close, had a chance to win late, but couldn't get it done. Charles Halpin led us with 23 points. Jan. 7, 2015 Texas Tech (8-5) @ Lamar (4-7) Final Score: Texas Tech- 69, Lamar- 49 -- The Red Raiders are tough, real tough. They forced us into 18 turnovers. Lucius Jeffcoat led us with 7 points and 10 rebounds. Jan. 10, 2015 Texas-Arlington (3-9) @ Lamar (4-8) Final Score: Texas-Arlington- 60, Lamar- 58 -- Conference play didn't start out the way I was hoping, as we fell short in this one. 20 turnovers didn't help our cause. Would have been nice to win this one, especially since we got 28 points from Charles Halpin. Jan. 14, 2015 Lamar (4-9, 0-1) @ Southeastern Louisiana (7-6, 0-1) Final Score: Lamar- 59, Southeastern LA- 46 -- Alright! My first conference win as a head coach, and we did so in relatively easy fashion in the 2nd half. It helps when we take care of the basketball, committing just 8 turnovers tonight. Charles Halpin was our leading scorer again with 19. Jan. 17, 2015 Texas St. (1-13, 0-2) @ Lamar (5-9, 1-1) Final Score: Lamar- 56, Texas St.- 26 -- To say Texas St. isn't very good would be an understatement. We allowed them just 13 points each half and they only shot 26.2%. In a recurring theme, Charles Halpin led us in scoring with 21 points. Jan. 21, 2015 Lamar (6-9, 2-1) @ McNeese St. (6-9, 2-0) Final Score: Lamar- 61, McNeese St.- 59 -- What a win for us, as we negated their attempt at a last second shot to hold on to the win. Our leading scorer this game: David Daily with 21. Jan. 24, 2015 #2 Texas (16-1) @ Lamar (7-9) Final Score: #2 Texas- 69, Lamar- 43 -- This one went about how I expected, as the Longhorns dominated from start to finish, but with them coming here, it'll give us a nice paycheck. We didn't play bad, only down at 8 the half, just ran out of steam in the second half. Doesn't help that we've lost our starting SF Emmanuel Wilson for the next 30 games due to a dislocated shoulder. Ugh! Jan. 28, 2015 Nicholls St. (1-17, 1-4) @ Lamar (7-10, 3-1) Final Score: Lamar- 57, Nicholls St.- 36 Another game that we dominated from start to finish against subpar competition. We led 39-15 at halftime, and held them to just 27.5% shooting for the game. Christopher Brown got the start in place of Wilson, and he contributed 6 points and 6 boards, but Charles Halpin was the man, scoring 31 points on 13-22 shooting, including 5-10 from three point range. Jan. 31, 2015 Lamar (8-10, 4-1) @ Texas A&M-CC (9-9, 2-3) Final Score: Lamar- 49, Texas A&M-CC- 27 -- We have just been dominating defensively lately, holding them to an amazing 8-42 shooting, good for just 19%. The question is, is our defense that good, or do our conference opponents just have that pitiful of an offense. Ethan Abad got POTG with an 8 point, 11 rebound effort as we end the month of January winning 4 of our last 5. Jan. 2015 Wrap-Up Overall Record: 9-10 Conference Record: 5-1 Home Record: 3-5 Road Record: 6-3 Neutral Record: 0-2 RPI: 267 11 of our 19 opponents so far have an RPI of 200 or worse, so our RPI looks like crap.
