STORM FC - '97 and on!

Recommended Posts

It was late 1996 when an American company name Zuffa decided to buy the Ultimate Fighting Championship from the nearly bankrupt WOW Promotions. This started a new era in mixed martial arts. One of the sellers and one of the founders of UFC, Art Davie decided to continue in the business and found a new company. It was called the Storm Fighting Championship, SFC for short.

(I want to thank the creator of the Storm Fighting Championship logo and banner, and WECNeverDie for the 1997 mod! I've made small edits here and there but mostly just adjusting some skills and attributes more to my liking. I will also focus on the game world quite a bit in my updates.)

SFC 1: Inoue vs. Shamrock

Teila Tuli (0-1) vs. John "The Machine" Lober (2-2)

Round 1:

Tuli starts of by firing a couple of jabs which land flush. The closes in and takes Lober down ending up in the guard. Tuli smothers Lober for a small while and starts throwing small punches. Lober catches one of the punches and goes for an armbar. He gets it and ends the bout!

Official Decision: John "The Machine" Lober beat Teila Tuli by Submission(Armbar) in 6:46.

James Warring (0-0) vs. Fred Ettish (0-1)

Round 1:

Warring starts by feeling out with a couple of jabs. Ettish seems very passive and eats more jabs from Warring. Warring lands a couple more jabs and unleashed a big right cross which catches Ettish. He is on wobbly legs and Warring moves in and lands a big right hand which is enough to drop Ettish to the ground. Warring follows to the ground and starts throwing punches which simply destroy Ettish! Ettish goes limp and the referee moves in to end the bout!

Official Decision: James Warring beat Fred Ettish by Knock Out(Punch) in 2:21.

Art Jimmerson (0-1) vs. Tony Halme (0-0)

Round 1:

The fighters exchange light strikes for a few minutes as both are scared to move in. They continued trading punches until after seven minutes Halme catches Art with a huge uppercut knocking him out!

Official decision: Tony Halme beat Fred Ettish by Knock Out(Punch) in 7:39.

He-Man Gipson (0-1) vs. "The Bull" Dan Bobish (0-0)

Round 1:

The fighters square each other for half a minute when Gipson moves in with a lazy jab. "The Bull" was ready and counters with a 1-2 combination and knocks off the socks of Gipson. Gipson is clean out!

Official Decision: "The Bull" Dan Bobish beat He-Man Gipson by Knock Out(Punch) in 0:40.

"Yamato Damashi" Enson Inoue (5-2) vs. Scott Baker (0-1)

Round 1:

The fighters exchange strikes for a couple of minutes with Enson taking the lead. Soon Baker missed with a left hand allowing Enson to counter with a crunching right hook. This was enough to knock Baker down. Enson kneeled besides Baker and started to hammer down with punches. The referee Gilbert Smith stepped in and ending the fight.

Official Decision: "Yamato Damashi" Enson Inoue beat Scott Baker by TKO(Strikes) in 2:43.

Co-Main Event

Erik Paulson (7-2-1) vs. Patrick Smith (4-6)

Round 1:

We get yet another stand up fight as the fight begins with heavy exchanges between the fighters. Smith lands a couple of heavy shots and follows in but gets caught by Paulson's big overhand right which is enough to knock him out!

Official Decision: Erik Paulson beat Patrick Smith by Knock Out(Punch) in 4:27.

Main Event

Egan Inoue (4-3) vs. Frank Shamrock (11-6-1)

Round 1:

Shamrock started strong by instantly dropping Inoue down with a three punch combination. He followed him down and threw strikes but couldn't put Inoue out. He transitioned to side control, tried to lock an armbar, failed and moved to a kimura. Inoue wasn't fast enough to react and was forced to tap out!

Official Decision: Frank Shamrock beat Egan Inoue by Submission(Kimura) in 3:15.

<strong>Notable news:</strong></p><p> </p><p>

-Right after winning the Openweight King of Pancrase title, Guy Mezger (11-4-2) informed that he has made a contract with the UFC and will vacate the belt immediately.</p><p>

-There has been a big shakedown in the world of MMA in general as the newly formed PRIDE FC has been signing current and former UFC fighters. Notable signings include Don Frye (11-1), Oleg Taktarov (10-4-2) and Kimo Leopoldo (6-3).</p><p>

-Royce Gracie (12-0-1, 12-0-1 UFC) decided to make his return to the cage after almost a two year hiatus and faced Jerry Bohlander (5-2, 2-2 UFC) at the UFC 12: Undisputed for the UFC Light Heavyweight title. Bohlander informed beforehand that he has signed a deal with PRIDE FC. Gracie emerged victorious after winning by an unanimous decision.</p><p>

-After his recent lost at UFC 12: Undisputed against Tra Telligman (4-0), Paul Varelans (4-5) came to the end of his contract and moved to Japan to compete for Pancrase. His job there started very badly as the 27 year old created a big media storm after saying racist comments on an interview.</p><p>

-Former UFC color commentator Jim Brown has passed away. The 60 year old had a long career in the NFL and also worked as an actor. He died of natural causes.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:24px;">STORM FC 2 announced!</span></strong> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

After a successful first show the headman of the company Art Davie was fast to announce their next upcoming show. STORM FC 2: Sutton vs. Hackney will be held at the end of March. The show will be headlined by former UFC veterans Joel Sutton (2-0) and Keith Hackney (2-2). The early booking lines favour Hackney quite a bit but Sutton's Kung Fu isn't to be overlooked.</p><p>

The co-main event has two UFC 2 veterans facing off as Frank Hamaker (1-0) takes on Scott Morris (1-1). Hamaker is the slight favourite here and many believe his sambo will be enough to stop Morris. 54 year old Ron Van Clief (0-1) will also make his way back to the cage as he is set to face off Houston Dorr (1-1). Also former Pancrase and Extreme Fighting competitor Matt "The Wizard" Hume (3-5) will be making his STORM FC debut. Full card can be seen below.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:12px;">Steven Graham (0-0) vs. Sean Daugherty (0-1)</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">

</span></strong></p><p><strong>

Round 1:</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong></p><p>

The first twenty minutes of the round went with Daugherty's complete dominance on the stand up. He kept jabbing and tagging Graham's face with big right crosses. After the twenty minutes had passed by Sean moved in to clinch with Graham and took him down with a suplex. He landed into the side position, threw a few punches, moved smoothly to the mount, got an armbar and secured the victory!</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Official Decision: Sean Daugherty beat Steven Graham by Submission(Armbar) in 24:49.</em></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:12px;">Houston Dorr (1-1) vs. Ron Van Clief (0-1)</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">

</span></strong></p><p><strong>

Round 1:</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong></p><p>

The fight was very entertaining until both men gassed. Van Clief had the edge on the stand up with his fast jabs while Dorr was able to take him down later on when both men were tired. In the end neither men were able to end the fight and so it was declared a draw after and hour long struggle.</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Official Decision: Houston Dorr Time Limit Draws with Ron Van Clief.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:12px;">John Dixson (0-0) vs. Harold Howard (1-2)</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">

</span></strong></p><p><strong>

Round 1:</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong></p><p>

This was Howard's eleven minute long showcase of his skill. He controlled the stand up and dropped Dixson once but let him stand up. He continued to tag him until he decided to clinch. He got Dixson against the cage and took him down. Dixson had to pull half guard and soon his face met Howard's fist. A few shots and Dixson was out cold!</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Official Decision: Harold Howard beat John Dixson by Knock Out(Punch) in 11:21.</em></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:12px;">Thaddeus Luster (0-1) vs. Matt Hume (3-5)</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">

</span></strong></p><p><strong>

Round 1:</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong></p><p>

Hume's first combination was enough to drop Luster down on his butt. Hume followed down and tried to lock a kneebar but Luster was able to roll out of it. Hume was fast to follow and was able to secure mount from the scramble. He started to throw heavy elbows and the referee Gilbert Smith decided to step in to end the bout!</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Official Decision: Matt Hume beat Thaddeus Luster by TKO(Strikes) in 3:41.</em></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:12px;">Paul Herrera (0-1) vs. Joe Moreira (0-1)</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">

</span></strong></p><p><strong>

Round 1:</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong></p><p>

Moreira was introduced as a Brazilian Jiu-Jutsu fighter but he didn't have to show his ground game tonight. He controlled Herrera who had simply no answer. This can be truly seen in the fight metrics as Herrera landed zero strikes! At the seven minute mark Moreira's combination found it's target and Herrera went down. Moreira kneeled next to him and pounded until Herrera was out cold forcing the referee to stop further punishment!</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Official Decision: Joe Moreira beat Paul Herrera by Knock Out(Punch) 7:47.</em></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Co-Main Event</span></strong></p><p><strong>

</strong><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">Frank Hamaker (1-0) vs. Scott Morris (1-1)</span></strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

Round 1:</strong></p><p> </p><p>

The second draw of the evening as these men put forward a good fight where they both had their moments but neither one showed the power and skill needed to finish a fight.</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Official Decision: Frank Hamaker Time Limit Draws with Scott Morris.</em></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Main Event</span></strong></p><p><strong>

</strong><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">Joel Sutton (2-0) vs. Keith Hackney (2-2)</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">

</span></strong></p><p><strong>

Round 1:</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Hackney showed how true karate works and clinched immediately, pushing Sutton to the cage wall and punishing him with dirty boxing. After a few minutes they break away and start exchanging punches. Hackney catches Sutton and drops him. The referee follows closely as Hackney hammerfists Sutton's face through the mat and stops the fight!</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Official Decision: Keith Hackney beat Joel Sutton by TKO(Strikes) in 8:02.</em></p><p> </p><p>

SFC 3: Enson vs. Shamrock

Anthony Macias (1-2, 0-0) vs. Andy Anderson (0-1, 0-1)

Round 1:

Macias drops Anderson after a few minutes of stand up. He can't put Anderson away and a 15-minute ground battle ensued which ended with Anderson taking Macias' back and submitting him with a Rear Naked Choke.

Official Decision: Andy Anderson beat Anthony Macias by Submission(Rear Naked Choke) in 19:12.

Rudyard Moncayo (0-1, 0-0) vs. Dave Beneteau (2-3, 0-0)

Round 1:

Moncayo offers nothing as Beneteau beats his face in for a few minutes and then nails him with a right hook, knocking him out cold!

Official Decision: Dave Beneteau beat Rudyard Moncayo by Knock Out(Punch) in 1:48.

Jon Hess (1-0, 0-0) vs. Ray Wizard (0-1, 0-0)

Round 1:

Hess had a clear size advantage (125lbs) and just hammered Wizard. He pushed Wizard against the cage and hit him with a short, powerful uppercut. Wizard fell down like a ragdoll and the referee moved in to stop the fight.

Official Decision: Jon Hess beat Ray Wizard by Knock Out(Punch) in 2:33.

Joe Son (0-1, 0-0) vs. Sean Daugherty (1-1, 1-0)

Round 1:

Son immediately tries to grapple but Daugherty moves away and tags him with jabs. Son changes his plan and starts to exchange strikes with Daugherty. A wild right hand misses and Daugherty counters with a beauty of a right cross. Son is clearly on rubbery legs and a big right hand from Daugherty drops Son! Daugherty pounds his head to the mat with his fist and he is out cold!

Official Decision: Sean Daugherty beat Joe Son by Knock Out(Punch) in 1:21.

Johnny Rhodes (2-1, 0-0) vs. Tito Ortiz (0-0)

Round 1:

Ortiz takes no time to take Rhodes down to the ground getting side control. He moves to the mount and starts to unload massive right hands which simply destroy Rhodes who goes limp!

Official Decision: Tito Ortiz beat Johnny Rhodes by Knock Out(Punch) in 1:16.

Kevin Rosier (1-2, 0-0) vs. Tony Halme (1-0, 1-0)

Round 1:

The fighters circle, scared to start trading strikes. Rosier takes the initiative and moves in but eats a right hand on the way. That makes Rosier change his mind and they continue to circle. Halme decides to attack and hit Rosier with a clean combination. It was followed by a big left hand which knocked Rosier out! It was also apparent from Rosier's face that his nose was broken.

Official Decision: Tony Halme beat Kevin Rosier by Knock Out(Punch) in 3:22.

Hugo Duarte (5-0, 0-0) vs. Teila Tuli (0-2, 0-1)

Round 1:

Tuli shoots and tries to take Duarte down but Duarte uses the situation to his own good and grabs Tuli to a clinch against the cage. He grabs a double leg and takes Tuli down moving directly to side control. From there he gets an easy armbar and Tuli taps out fairly quickly!

Official Decision: Hugo Duarte beat Teila Tuli by Submission(Armbar) in 1:05

Co-Main Event

Dan Bobish (1-0, 1-0) vs. Erik Paulson (8-2-1)

Round 1:

Bobish comes in with a huge weight advantage of almost 200 pounds. Paulson used his speed to stay away from Bobish landing jabs and crosses. This continued for 15 minutes. Then they collided to each other after an exchange of strikes and Bobish was able to force a clinch. He pushed the smaller Paulson against the cage and took him down. He wound up in Paulson's guard and was caught by a kimura which was enough to make Bobish tap!

Official Decision: Erik Paulson beat Dan Bobish by Submission(Kimura) in 20:18.

Main Event

Enson Inoue (6-2, 1-0) vs. Frank Shamrock (11-6-1, 1-0)

Round 1:

A ground battle where Enson was the dominating one. He had top control for almost the whole fight but in the end Shamrock was able to secure an armbar! Enson refused to tap out and his hand popped forcing the referee to step in and stop the fight!

Official Decision: Frank Shamrock beat Enson Inoue by Technical Submission(Armbar) in 24:49.

<strong>Notable news:</strong></p><p> </p><p>

- After a quiet half a year, after getting bought out by the former RINGS owner Akira Maeda, Shooto informed that they are back in action and have made an 8 event television deal with WOWOW. They hired Japanese man named Sadaharu Tanikawa as their CEO. They've gone around signing fighters including STORM FC fighters Paul Herrera (0-2, 0-1 STORM FC), Joel Sutton (2-1, 0-1 STORM FC) and Art Jimmerson (0-2, 0-1 STORM FC). They've also signed an interesting Brazilian prospect named Wanderlei Silva (4-0). They're expected to hold their return event soon.</p><p>

- Scott Ferrozzo's fight against Zaza Tkeshelashvili at Pride Bushido 2 has been scrapped after Ferrozzo suffered a moderate shoulder injury in training. He is sidelined for a few months. PRIDE couldn't find a replacement in time.</p><p>

- Pancrase informed about the inclusion of their new Light Heavyweight division. This will create big competition as all the Japanese companies now promote fights at this weight class.</p><p>

- Kazuo Takahashi (10-8-1, 1-0 PRIDE FC) suffered a moderate spinal injury forcing him out of his bout with Ikuhisa Minowa (1-1, 1-1 PRIDE FC) at PRIDE FC 5. Unfortunately the company's management couldn't find a replacement in time. </p><p>

- The same show, PRIDE FC 5, met more bad luck after Oleg Taktarov's (12-4-2, 2-0 PRIDE FC) had to pull out of his fight with Kimo Leopoldo (7-3, 1-1 PRIDE FC) after suffering a moderate back injury. No replacement was found for the Hawaiian.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>STORM FC news:</strong></p><p> </p><p>

- Following his STORM FC 4 main event defeat to Harold Howard (3-2, 2-0 STORM FC), Keith Hackney (3-3, 0-2 STORM FC) has left the company and joined PRIDE FC with a 4 fight contract.</p><p>

- Scott Morris (1-2-1, 0-1-1 STORM FC) informed in his post-fight interview that he will end his fighting career. The UFC 2 quarterfinalist and 2 time STORM FC veteran said that he will continue training and wishes he could be 20 years younger and start as a youngster.</p><p> </p><p>

STORM FC's next event will be held at the end of October and in the main event Sean Daugherty (2-1, 2-0 STORM FC) is set to face off with Erik Paulson (9-2-1, 2-0 STORM FC). Both men are coming in with 2 fight win streaks. It will be an interesting match up as Paulson is cross trained in many different martial arts and trains at the Lion's Den but Daugherty comes in to face him with his karate game which has proved itself in the STORM FC cage . </p><p>

The co-main event is between the hot prospect Tito Ortiz (1-0, 1-0 STORM FC) and the Brazilian Joe Moreira (1-1, 1-0 STORM FC). Ortiz is only 22 years old and comes with a background from wrestling. Moreira on the other hand is 34 years old and he has been practicing martial arts for all his life and he has black belts in Judo and BJJ. We will also see the STORM FC debut of the Olympic gold medalist in Freestyle Wrestling Kevin Jackson (2-0, 0-0 STORM FC) and the STORM FC debut of UFC Heavyweight champion Mark Coleman's protest Kevin Randleman (5-0, 0-0 STORM FC).</p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Injury sidelines Randleman!</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Kevin Randleman (5-0, 0-0) had to pull out of his fight with He-Man Gipson (0-2, 0-1) after getting sidelined by a moderate neck injury. The fight was supposed to be held the next weekend at STORM FC 5: Daugherty vs. Paulson. This was his second fight in a row where he's had to pull out due to a injury. No fighter stood up with the 4 day preparation time so Gipson doesn't have a fight. The fight will be held at STORM FC 7.</p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:12px;">Fred Ettish (0-2, 0-1) vs. "Dangerous" Dave Beneteau (3-3, 1-0)</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">

</span></strong></p><p><strong>

Round 1:</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong></p><p>

They start by exchanging a few strikes and at the one minute mark Beneteau catches Ettish with a right hook to the temple. Ettish crumbles down and Beneteau follows to unleash strikes. The referee Gilbert Smith has seen enough and stops the bout!</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Official Decision: "Dangerous" Dave Beneteau beat Fred Ettish by TKO(Strikes) in 1:41.</em></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:12px;">Patrick Smith (4-7, 0-1) vs. Art Jimmerson (0-2, 0-1)</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">

</span></strong></p><p><strong>

Round 1:</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong></p><p>

A good fight where Smith dropped Jimmerson with his first shot but wasn't able to finish him on the ground. A long ground battle ensued and after 180 punches on the ground Smith finally managed to take Jimmerson's back and force him to tap out with a rear naked choke!</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Official Decision: Patrick Smith beat Art Jimmerson by Submission(RNC) in 33:59.</em></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:12px;">"El Tiburon" Todd Medina (2-3, 0-0) vs. Scott Baker (0-2, 0-1)</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">

</span></strong></p><p><strong>

Round 1:</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong></p><p>

This followed a familiar way. Medina punished Baker for ten minutes on the feet, took him down and wound up in Baker's guard. From there he advanced all the way to mount and managed to get an armbar forcing Baker to tap out!</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Official Decision: "El Tiburon" Todd Medina beat Scott Baker by Submission(Armbar) in 14:04.</em></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:12px;">Kevin Jackson (2-0, 0-0) vs. "The Giant With Attitude" Jon Hess (2-0, 1-0)</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">

</span></strong></p><p><strong>

Round 1:</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong></p><p>

Hess came in trying to counter strike against Jackson who was the clear aggressor. Too bad Hess isn't a good counter striker and he got tagged up good. Jackson hit him with good combinations and finally his left hook, right straight combination put Hess on his butt. Jackson acted fast and started to pound away on Hess with heavy right hands. The referee Jay Bonnar has seen enough and steps in to end the bout!</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Official Decision: Kevin Jackson beat "The Giant With Attitude" Jon Hess by TKO(Strikes) in 2:52.</em></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Co-Main Event</span></strong></p><p><strong>

</strong><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">"The Gorilla" Joe Moreira (1-1, 1-0) vs. "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" Tito Ortiz (1-0, 1-0)</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">

</span></strong></p><p><strong>

Round 1:</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong></p><p>

Ortiz refused to touch gloves, drawing great heat from the crowd. He immediately shot for a single leg and ended up in Moreira's half guard. Ortiz tries to pass and gets directly to mount. He starts pounding away but one punch slips and hit the mat and judging from Ortiz's face the hand is broken! This was crucial part of the fight as Ortiz wasn't able to submit Moreira and couldn't put him away with strikes due to his right hand being messed up. The fight ultimately ended in a time limit draw and both men were messed up. Ortiz landed over 1000 strikes during the bout while Moreira had 400. The crowd booed as there was a clear winner and they clearly demand judges!</p><p> </p><p>

<em>Official Decision: "The Gorilla" Joe Moreira Time Limit Draws with "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" Tito Ortiz.</em></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Main Event</span></strong></p><p><strong>

</strong><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">Sean Daugherty (2-1, 2-0) vs. Erik Paulson (9-2-1, 2-0)</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">

</span></strong></p><p><strong>

Round 1:</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong></p><p>

A poor grapplefest which went to the time limit. Daugherty had the edge but neither man had what it takes to finish each other. The crowd started to leave half way through as it was second long fight in a row and a boring one too. </p><p> </p><p>

<em>Official Decision: Sean Daugherty Time Limit Draws with Erik Paulson.</em></p><p> </p><p>

The Light Heavyweight title fight between Wes Albritton (3-0-1, 0-0-1 Shooto) and Yuri Vaulin (2-0-1, 0-0-1 Shooto) ended in a majority draw. Albritton was on his way to win the fight but in the end of the last round he stopped a takedown by grabbing the ropes. The referee Haru Erizawa spotted this and took off a point from Albritton. Shooto officials didn't tell us about the future of the title.

STORM FC news:

- Following his STORM FC 5 defeat, Art Jimmerson (0-3, 0-2 STORM FC) has left STORM FC and joined Shooto on a 3 fight contracts. He also broke his hand during the fight.

- Light Heavyweight prospect "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" Tito Ortiz (1-0-1, 1-0-1 STORM FC) injured his hand during his STORM FC 5 fight with Joe Moreira (1-1-1, 1-0-1 STORM FC). Ortiz is supposed to be out for five months.

- James Warring (2-0, 2-0 STORM FC) has decided to end his career. The 38 year old says that his physical abilities have declined too much. "I couldn't keep up with the younger guys in training." is what the Florida resident had to say.

- Houston Dorr (2-1-1, 1-0-1 STORM FC) has signed a contract with the UFC and has joined their roster. His debut is expected in the near future.

First STORM FC title fight announced!

Frank Shanmrock (13-6-1, 2-0 STORM FC) and Renzo Gracie (6-0, 0-0 STORM FC) are set to fight for the STORM FC Openweight championship! Gracie is a surprise contestant who came in out of nowhere to face of Shamrock who has earned his shot with wins over the Inoue brothers Enson and Egan. Gracie of course brings in solid ground game and according to a reliable source has really improved on his stand up. Shamrock on the other hand has changed his training camp and is now associated with The Alliance which he founded with Maurice "Mo" Smith (5-7, 1-1 PRIDE FC) and thinks he is now a more complete fighter.

The Brazilian Luta Livre fighter Hugo Duarte (6-0, 1-0 STORM FC) and American welterweight fighter Pat Miletich (16-0, 0-0 STORM FC) face off in the co-main event. Miletich, who is one of the first truly mixed martial artists, is making his STORM FC debut and is coming in as the clearly smaller man. He has background in both boxing and wrestling. Duarte comes with a Luta Livre background and is surely looking to take the fight to the ground and submit his way to victory. We also see the returns of the hard hitting Finn Tony Halme (2-0, 2-0 STORM FC) and STORM FC 1 main eventer Egan Inoue (4-4, 0-1 STORM FC). Full card below.

STORM FC 6: Gracie vs. Shamrock[

Steven Graham (0-1, 0-1) vs. Frank Hamaker (1-0-1, 0-0-1)

Round 1:

Graham starts punishing Hamaker right away and dropped him in no time with a big right hook. Graham followed up and ended up in Hamaker's guard from where he threw punches but didn't threaten Hamaker too much. Graham continues pounding away and suddenly he gets caught by a triangle choke! It is locked in deep and Graham has to tap out!

Official Decision: Frank Hamaker beat Steven Graham by Submission(Triangle) in 3:59.

Joel Sutton (2-1, 0-1) vs. Teila Tuli (0-3, 0-2)

Round 1:

Tuli immediately shot in and took Sutton down. He got to side control with ease and started to pound away with huge right hands which force the referee Jerry Dudley to step in and stop the bout!

Official Decision: Teila Tuli beat Joel Sutton by TKO(Strikes) in 3:05.

Paul Herrera (0-2, 0-1) vs. Andy Anderson (1-1, 1-0)

Round 1:

They trade for a while with neither landing much or anything significant. Finally Anderson's right hand rocked Herrera and he followed up with a right hook putting Herrera out cold!

Official Decision: Andy "The Hammer" Anderson beat Paul Herrera by Knock Out(Punch) in 9:04.

"Big" John Dixson (0-1, 0-1) vs. Egan Inoue (4-4, 0-1)

Round 1:

Inoue tooled around with Dixson but had problems finishing the fight. Finally after 18 minutes he managed to press Dixson against the wall and slammed him down landing in side control. From there he first went for a kimura which Dixson was quick enough to block. For his bad luck, he wasn't fast enough to stop the follow up armbar which was enough to force Dixson to tap out!

Official Decision: Egan Inoue beat "Big" John Dixson by Submission(Armbar) in 19:04.

"Black Dragon" Ron Van Clief (0-1-1, 0-0-1) vs. Tony Halme (2-0, 2-0)

Round 1:

They engage in a boxing match where Van Clief lands more but Halme lands the more significant strikes. In the end, Halme manages to stagger Ron with a left jab right hook combination and his follow up right straight was enough to knock him down. Halme moved in for the kill and started pounding away forcing the referee John McCarthy to pull him away!

Official Decision: Tony Halme beat "Black Dragon" Ron Van Clief by TKO(Strikes) in 7:40.

Co-Main Event

Hugo Duarte (6-0, 1-0) vs. "The Croatian Sensation" Pat Miletich (16-0, 0-0)

Round 1:

Duarte used his size keep top control and smothered Miletich with small strikes on the ground. After his second takedown at the 36 minute mark, Duarte was able to mount Miletich and exploded with huge right hammerfists! The referee Jerry Dudley was slow to stop the bout but in the end he did!

Official Decision: Hugo Duarte beat "The Croatian Sensation" Pat Miletich by TKO(Strikes) in 37:42.

Main Event

For the STORM FC Openweight title

Renzo Gracie (6-0, 0-0) vs. Frank Shamrock (13-6-1, 2-0)

Round 1:

The two men battled out a great battle but in the end it went to a time limit draw. Shamrock dropped Gracie twice but wasn't able to put him away. Both men had their moments and Shamrock was the more dominant one but only by a small margin. There will be an immediate rematch this time with judges!

Official Decision: Renzo Gracie time limit draws with Frank Shamrock.

Pound for Pound Top Ten at the end of 1997: (Only active fighters)

#1. Royce Gracie (14-0-1, 14-0-1 UFC, 4-0-1 in Last 5)

- Gracie went 3-0 in 1997 with wins over Jerry Bohlander, Guy Mezger and Mark Schultz. He won the UFC Light Heavyweight belt against Bohlander and defended it in the two other fights. Gracie is also billed as the #1 Light Heavyweight fighter at the moment. The 31 year old said in a recent interview that he will defend his belt in 1998 and is looking to continue his undefeated streak.

#2. "El Guapo" Bas Rutten (23-5, 3-1 PRIDE FC, 4-1 in Last 5)

- The Dutch kickboxer comes of with a defeat to Rickson Gracie but we feel like Rutten still takes the #2 place with his overall better record and stronger opponents in his last five fights. His 1997 consisted of wins over Magomedkhan "Vold Han" Gamzatkhanov, Tsuyoshi Kohsaka and Rickson Gracie but he also lost to Gracie. He won the PRIDE FC Heavyweight belt in his first bout with Rickson and defended it once beating Kohsaka. At the age of 32 Rutten still has a lot to offer and he says that he will happily make it a trilogy and rematch with Rickson!

#3. Rickson Gracie (5-1, 3-1 PRIDE FC, 4-1 in Last 5)

- The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu king went 3-1 in 1997 and ended the year as the PRIDE FC Heavyweight champion. With wins over Nobuhiko Takada, "The King of the Streets" Marco Ruas and a win and a defeat against "El Guapo" Bas Rutten Gracie comes in on the third place. Rickson is already 39 years old but he think he has a few years left in him.

#4. Dan "The Beast" Severn (16-3, 1-0 Pancrase, 4-1 in Last 5)

- "The Beast" had a great run in UFC going 11-3 but now he is under contract with Pancrase. He already made his debut defeating Yuki Kondo to win the Heavyweight King of Pancrase title. Severn went 2-1 in 1997 he starting the year with a defeat to "The Hammer" Mark Coleman but coming back with wins over Yuki Kondo and Tra Telligman. Severn is also 39 but he seems much more resilient and has said that he will keep fighting for years to come!

#5. Masakatsu Funaki (27-6, 27-6 Pancrase, 4-1 in Last 5)

- Funaki had just one fight in the '97 defending his Openweight King of Pancrase title against Manabu Yamada. Funaki has been on a good roll since the start of Pancrase and is now cementing his place as a legend of the sport. He is only 28 years old so he has some good years ahead of him.

#6. "The Sandman" Guy Mezger (13-5-2, 4-1 UFC, 4-1 in Last 5)

- Mezger started his year in Pancrase with a win over Kiuma Kunioka. He then moved to UFC and defeated Nick Sanzo. He got a Light Heavyweight title shot against Royce Gracie but was defeated by a close split decision. He ended the year with a win over Saeed Hosseini. He is set to fight Ebenezer Fontes Braga at UFC 20 held in February 1998.

#7. "The Hammer" Mark Coleman (7-0, 7-0 UFC, 5-0 in Last 5)

- "The Hammer" defeated Dan Severn and John Campatella during his run for the Heavyweight title. Now a champion with one defence, Coleman is set to defend his belt for the second time and he is set to face of with another wrestler Randy Couture.

#8 Don "The Predator" Frye (13-1, 3-0 PRIDE FC, 5-0 in Last 5)

- Frye joined PRIDE FC at the start of the year and had a a good year going 3-0 with wins over Nobuhiko Takada, Magomedkhan "Volk Han" Gamzatkhanov and Maurice "Mo" Smith. The wrestler/boxer is booked to fight "The Russian Bear" Oleg Taktarov at PRIDE FC 7 held in February. Frye said that his 1998 will be full of big wins and nice moustaches!

#9. Jason Delucia (19-12, 3-3 UFC, 2-3 in Last 5)

- Delucia moved back to the USA and signed back to UFC. He had a tough year going 1-2 with a win over Yoji "Mr. 200%" Anjo and defeats to Fabio Gurgel and Ebenezer Fontes Braga. Delucia's great Pancrase run is keeping him up in the ratings but he needs to improve to keep his place. He is only 28 years old so he has time to do so but after leaving Lion's Den, following a fall out with Frank Shamrock, he has been training alone which is almost never good for a fighter. He is recovering from a hand injury which he sustained in his fight against Anjo.

#10. Kiuma Kunioka (7-4-2, 7-4-2 Pancrase, 4-1 in Last 5)

- Kiuma went 1-1 in 1997 with a knock out defeat to Guy Mezger and an armbar win over Jason Fairn. Kunioka has been on a good roll for the past few years with notable wins over Frank Shamrock and Guy Mezger. Kiuma is only 21 years old so he is truly a good prospect and a lot is expected of him.

Notable news:

- Middleweight prospect Dave Menne (7-0) has been jailed for six months after being convicted of an assault. We have no information about the incident but this will leave a big mark on the 23 years old's career.

STORM FC news:

- During the STORM FC 6 post-fight press conference, the owner and the CEO of the company, Art Davie informed that the company is going change some of their rules. The upcoming changes are the following: If there is no finish before the time limit three judges will score the contest picking whoever they thought won the bout. The regular fight time will be halved to one thirty minute round and title fights will be two thirty minute rounds. Davie said that the main reason for the change are the two last lackluster main events and he called himself a "complete moron" for booking the title fight with no judging. He also indicated that they are close to splitting their roster to two or three weight divisions. The changes come into effect immediately.

- "Black Dragon" Ron Van Clief (0-2-1, 0-1-1 STORM FC) announced his retirement following his loss to Tony Halme (3-0, 3-0 STORM FC). Van Clief will be remembered as the oldest fighter to date as he had his last fight at the young age of 54.

- Tony Halme (3-0, 3-0 STORM FC) has left the company and joined UFC with a three fight contract. The 34 year old Finn is looking to continue his streak in the bigger organization.

- Joel Sutton (2-2, 0-2 STORM FC) and Paul Herrera (0-3, 0-2 STORM FC) have left the company both joining Shooto with a three fight contract. Sutton said in an interview that he is looking to turn his career around and decided to shook up his training at the same time by leaving Grappling Unlimited and with his personal training team for the time being.

The show will be headlined by American UFC veteran Harold Howard (3-2, 2-0 STORM FC) and Matt "The Wizard" Hume (5-5, 2-0 STORM FC). Unless Hume has buffed up like a mad man, Howard will be the bigger man by almost a hundred pounds. Howard is billed as a Goju Ryu Karateka but in reality he is a tough brawler. Hume on the other hand comes in with a background from Pankration and he can handle himself both standing and on the ground.

The co-main event will be between "Nasty" Zane Frasier (1-2, 1-0 STORM FC) and Keith Mielke (3-1, 0-0 STORM FC). Mielke is making his big league return after his debut loss at the UFC 8.
