For a pre-show match it is really good. Several minutes are spent feeling the other tag team out. Davey Boy is able to catch Flemming of guard and hit a running power slam, he runs and knocks Houston of the apron and tags in Dynamite. Dynamite goes to the top rope and jumps off to hit a diving head-butt. He pins Flemming for the win. And not only that the main event will face the United States Champion and Billy 'Superstar' Graham against Magnum TA and the World Champ Ric Flair. Also the war between the Von Erichs and the Russian Federation continues. Schiavone: What a night for pro wrestling Ross, I am looking forward to seeing Ron 'Black-Jack' Bass take on Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat. Whichever team wins here should pick up some valuable momentum before the big show. Krusher Khruschev the bigger man in the match gets the opening advantage with some well-timed strikes to the knees of Mike with a suplex to put Mike on his back. Mike grabs the rope to try to get himself up but Krusher doesn’t let him get back up by dragging him by his feet to the middle of the ring. Krusher pins Mike but the referee only counts to 2 because he kicked out. Krusher gets up and looks frustrated that he didn’t put him away just there. Ivan and Nikita tell him to keep his cool as Kerry and Kevin start clapping to get the fans clapping and cheering on the underdog Mike. Krusher waits for Mike to get back up on his feet and attempts a suplex but is reversed by a suplex from Mike. The young Von Erich is getting fired up and runs the ropes and hits a clothesline but Krusher is staggered, Mike runs the ropes again and hit with a clothesline from Krusher that drops Mike on his back. Krusher pins Mike for the win. Winner Krusher Khruschev with a Clothesline at 13:20 Post-match both teams hop in the ring, Mike is helped back up from his team mates. They go head to head, face to face. Both teams wait for the other to make the first move, but neither flinch. The Russians make the first move a launch fists at the Von Erichs but they are met with fists from the Von Erichs. Both teams melee until the Von Erichs get upper hand and the Russians flee from the ring. The Von Erichs are asking them to come back for more. Ross: Who got the advantage there? The Russian Federation win the match but ran away from the Von Erichs. Tommy Rich after losing to Bass last week doesn’t want to go on a losing streak. They start off with reversals and submission holds until Anderson goes outside to regroup. Rich follows him outside but Anderson plays possum and gets the advantage when Anderson hurls Rich into the ring barrier. He picks him back up and hurls Rich into the barrier again. He gets onto the apron and enters the ring. The referee starts to count, Anderson is looking cocky thinking he has the match one. He goes to one side of the ring and taunts the crowd but Rich is back in the ring. Anderson turns around and receives a dropkick for his effort. Rich plays to crowd and attempts a pile-driver but is reversed by Anderson who whips Rich to the ropes and hits a brutal Spine-Buster. Steamboat looks focused but so does Bass as he knows it would be a big win if he can beat the Number One Contender. Bass gets the opening advantage by taking out the knee of the Dragon. He hops out of the ring and drags the legs of Steamboat to ring post. He flings the legs over and over again into the ring post until Steamboat can crawl out of it. Bass stares down a fan who is trying to get in the face of Bass, Bass gets in the ring and Steamboat tries to get back on his legs but is stumbling. Steamboat tries to separate himself from Bass with a bunch of chops but is only able to get him away for a brief moment. Steamboat starts to struggle in the sleeper hold until the crowd chants Ricky, Ricky, Ricky. He has life again to the shock of Bass and Blanchard, Bass can’t seem to keep him in the hold and is struck by elbows by Ricky. Bass is stammered and is hit by a Flying Karate Chop. Steamboat pins Bass for the win. Winner: Ricky 'The Dragon' Steamboat with a Flying Karate Chop at 15:32 Blanchard grabs a microphone. Blanchard: Conrgats on the win there Ricky, are you mentally ill. Are you? Because if my memory is correct I beat you two weeks ago, and successfully defended my title. The fact is Ricky, I am just better than you. Steamboat gets back up and stares at Tully. Blanchard: Thats right Ricky, I Tully Blanchard am better than you. Steamboat just shakes his head and points at Tully. Blanchard: Ricky turn around. Ricky turns around and is hit with a brutal Clothesline by Bass. Dusty agrees and Fernandez and Animal face off. Both men are excellent brawlers and this one is a hard hitting match. The opening minutes are filled with fairly even wrestling until they both hit a clothesline and both men are down. They crawl to the corners of their partners and tag them in. Rhodes runs to Hawk and meets him with an arm drag. Hawk gives Rhodes an arm drag to shift the momentum in his favor. Rhodes gets up and delivers a chop after chop after chop to Hawk. Rhodes holds onto the arm of Hawk and tags in Fernandez, Fernandez kicks the arm of Hawk. Hawk tries to push Fernandez away but Fernandez keeps the hold and momentum in his favor. The match continues and Fernandez is in control until Hawk can tag in Animal. Rhodes tries to get tag in but gets off the apron to defend himself against the Funks who are getting closer. Animal takes down Fernandez and picks him up on his shoulders. Hawk jumps of the top rope and they hit the Doomsday Device. Animal pins Fernandez for the win. Winners and New NWA World Tag Team Champions: Road Warriors with a Doomsday Device at 17:56 The Road Warriors are celebrating in the ring with the belts, Fernandez is on his back and Rhodes and the Funks stare at each other. The Funks make the first move and attack Rhodes. They beat him up until the Road Warriors notice and chase them off. It’s obvious that there is a big difference between Magnum and Graham in tier as the main eventer takes down the upper midcarder. Magnum disagrees and slams Graham to prove it to the audience that he in the same tier as Graham. Graham gets back up a flexes to the crowd so Magnum slams him again and Magnum flexes to the crowd. Magnum tags in Flair and Graham backs of and tags in Wahoo McDaniels. Wahoo and Flair go face to face, both champions in their own right, they both strike each other with punches. Wahoo whips Flair into the corner and stands on the second turnbuckle and hits Flair with a flurry of punches to the dismay of the fans. The referee tells him to back off or he will be disqualified, he gets of him and Flair drops to ground in vintage Flair fashion. With Flair down Graham wants to get tagged in but Wahoo disagrees and thinks he has the advantage. Flair reveres a power-slam into a pile-driver but doesn’t cover, Flair and Wahoo crawls to their partners. Flair tags in Magnum who stops Wahoo from tagging in Graham. Magnum picks Wahoo and hits a belly to belly suplex. He gets up and knocks Graham of the apron and pins Wahoo. Winners: Magnum TA and Ric Flair The show ends with Magnum and Flair celebrating in the ring as Wahoo and Graham stare at them from ringside. Davey and Lane start the match off. Davey proves to be the stronger individual as he takes Lane down on the mat with a quick takedown. He holds him there for a while until Lane starts to get out of it, when this happens Davey Boy holds him to Davey Boys partner Dynamite. He tags him in and they perform and double suplex to Lane. Dynamite waits for the groggy Lane to get to his feet until he runs the ropes and performs an amazing dropkick. Lane quickly gets back up only to be meet with another dropkick. Dynamite starts clapping as he builds momentum the fans are clearly fans of the Bulldogs as they clap along. Dynamite attempts to pick Lane up when Lane reverses with a few strikes he knows he can’t let the Bulldogs get more momentum. He hits a drop toe hold to Dynamite and gets up and tags in Keirn. The tag team experts in Keirn and Lane blast Dynamite with a flurry of double team moves over the next few minutes. Double suplexs are followed by Lane holding the legs of Dynamite down before Keirn comes of the second turnbuckle with a knee to the legs of Dynamite. Smart strategy by the Fabulous Ones to hurt the legs of Dynamite to stop him from smiling. The double team moves continue until Dynamite is able to scurry his way out of the grasp of the Fabulous Ones to tag in Davey Boy. Davey Boy comes in with some aggression as he had to sit through minutes of his cousin get destroyed by the Fabulous Ones. He hits Keirn with a running power-slam and attempts to pin Keirn but he isn’t the legal man! JJ Dillion grabs the legs of Dynamite so he can't interfere in the match. Lane is behind the confused Davey and drops him down and puts him in a brutal Figure-Four. Davey has no choice to submit. The Von Erich and Russian Federation war is hot and heavy tonight as the leaders of both factions go head to head as well as the mercenaries of both factions go head to head in a tag team match. Ross: Thats right Schiavone, but to start us off here tonight is the first round of the Crockett Cup as Dory Funk Jr will take on the returning legend Ron Garvin. Will Garvin have ring rust as he hasn’t competed for over a month but Dory Funk a few days ago had a brutal 20 minute classic with Dusty Rhodes and has had many 20 minute matches throughout the past month? Once the announcer Bob Caudle finished announcing both men Garvin walks into the middle of the ring and offers his hand to Dory Funk. Funk stares at Garvin almost with disgust and the camera and pick up what Funk was saying. Funk: Who the hell are you, I am the legend. Garvin shakes his head and they lock up, the opening minutes are spent with both men feeling each other out they trade holds and strikes. Funk holds Garvin in a rest hold and places four well placed strikes to the head of Garvin. Funk knows that would have weakened Garvin so he releases the hold and taunts the crowd as Garvin drops to the mat. The referee asks the bloody Garvin if he wants to continue only a few minutes in. Funk moves in between the referee and Garvin and lifts the leg up and hits a flurry of kicks and strikes to the knee of Garvin. Funk picks him up and lifts him up for a suplex, he keeps him in the air for a few seconds making all the blood of Garvin to go down to his head making the bleeding worse. He drops the suplex on Garvin. Garvin starts to crawl out of the ring but the viscous Funk won’t let it happen he grabs the legs and pulls him back in the ring. He locks on the cloverleaf and Garvin could be out of it only a few minutes in. Funk flexes as he leans back making the hold worse. Garvin starts to show life as he reaches for the rope. Funk leans even further back. Garvin is feeling the pain of the cloverleaf and his bloody face drops on the mat. The referee picks the arm of Garvin up and it falls. He picks it up again and it falls, the crowd is on their feet as the match could be over. The referee picks it up again but Garvin is up. The bloody face emerges and crawls towards the rope. Steamboat starts the match by running at Blanchard and sacrificing his body by taking both men over the top. Both men are down and out, outside the ring. Steamboat gets up and climbs the apron and Blanchard cuts him off by pulling the legs out. Blanchard gets in the ring and orders the referee to start counting him out. The referee does and only gets to 5 as Steamboat climbs the apron then the top rope, Blanchard who is playing to the crowd doesn’t see Steamboat. Steamboat jumps and Blanchard moves as Steamboat attempted a flying cross body. Blanchard picks the flattened Steamboat and hits a belly to bell suplex. Blanchard goes for a pin but Steamboat kicks out at two. Blanchard loses control as Steamboat even the odds as both me swap holds, keeping their focus on the mat. Rhodes grabs the head of Terry and bangs the head against the rail over and over again. Ross notes that Rhodes is really fired up tonight for good reason to as he saw the unfair beating for Garvin. Funk grabs the ears of Dusty before Rhodes could grab him, Funk whips him into the railing. Rhodes is on his knees and before he can get up Funk runs and clotheslines both men of the railing. They are fighting in the crowd and Schiavone reminds the fans that the match hasn’t even begun. They are fighting on dangerous grounds as there is nothing but crowd members and concrete. Terry Funk reverses an attempted DDT by Dusty and whips Dusty into a group of people. Dusty is down and out but is so are the people that had the American Dream land on them. Funk hops over the railing and is followed by a groggy Dusty, Dusty is half way over the railing and is nailed by Terry with a stiff punch that knocks Dusty over the railing. Funk hops back into the ring and waits for Rhodes to slowly make his way back in the ring and the bell is rung. Funk goes for a pin straight away but can only get two, the arena is shocked that Dusty could kick out. Funk is on top of Rhodes now and just attacking him with a flurry of punches to the head of Rhodes. This domination continues for the next few minutes and is filled with near falls and Dusty kicking out at two. Rhodes is in the corner and Funk runs at him and hits a splash, he runs again and hits another. He goes for the third but Dusty puts the leg up blocking his opponent. The camera zooms into Kevin who almost looks in pain after watching his brother have a big man like Krusher land on his body. Krusher tags in Nikita who goes to work on Mike Von Erich but Mike kicks Nikita in the legs. Nikita grabs the legs of Mike and drags him over to the corner of the Russian Federation. They double team Mike with a double suplex, Nikita hits Mike Von Erich with a Russian Sickle and Krusher runs and knocks Kevin of the ring apron. Nikita pins Mike for the win. Ivan is able to lift Kerry on top of the turnbuckle and hits the stomach with a lot of strikes. He keeps going and ignores the referee who is telling Ivan to stop, but he keeps going and lifts Kerry up and hits a suplex on Kerry. The assault doesn’t as Ivan is making Kerry Von Erich bloody, Kerry is almost life less. Ivan continues the assault, the referee moves in between them and Ivan just pushes the referee out of his way and continues the assault the referee is furious and rings the bell. Flair gets up and they lock up again and it is the same result, Flair gets up and Graham flexes again and Flair locks up and pushes Graham into the corner. He chops the chest of Graham and Graham grabs Flair by the shoulders and they swap positions. Graham now with chops his own hit Flair over and over and over again. Graham stops and moves away and Flair tries to walk but face plants. Graham adding insult to injury struts down to the other side of the ring. He flips the fallen Flair onto his back and runs the ropes to hit a knee. Flair tries to get up but Graham hits the rope again and drops another knee to Flair. The fans boo the Superstar, as he runs the rope for the first time and jumps to hit a knee but Flair rolls out of the way. Graham and Flair crawl to each side the ring and they use the ropes to get back up. They walk to each other and Flair kicks Graham in the gut and puts Grahams arm over his neck and uses Grahams dye painted tights to help him get the Superstar in the air to hit a suplex. The next five minutes are relatively even until Graham lifts up the Champion to place him in a bear hug. Graham squeezes the ribs of Flair with his huge pythons. Flair starts to clap to get the crowd to get behind him and 25,000 people in the arena are getting behind him. Flair pushes the chest of Graham to try to break the hold and it works after a few strikes to the head of Graham. Flair now out of the hold runs behind Graham and shoulder blocks the knees of Graham. He lifts the leg of the fallen Graham and places the figure four leg lock onto Graham. Graham struggles to get out of it but has no choice to submit. Schiavone adds to that saying Dory and Dusty have been on top of that mountain before and want to get there again. The match starts off with the taped up Dusty getting demolished by Dory. Dusty reaches the ropes and punches and chops the chest and arms of Dory, Dory tries to block it with his hands but he can’t. Dory tries to punch but Dusty steps backs and avoids its. Dory smiles and so does Dusty as he does the strut around the ring. Dory goes for a clothesline and is met by a clothesline from Dusty. Both men are down and out, Ross makes the comment that Dusty must be running on fumes. Dory is the first one to his feet, Dusty is only on his knees and Dory punches the head of Dusty and hits a DDT. The crowd rise, they know it is over, Dory is going to face Flair at Starrcade. Dory puts his arm over the flattened body of Dusty and the referee counts the pin. 1 2 Kick out! Dusty is still alive and Dory and the crowd are all in shock, everyone is silent, dead silent. He and Rhodes stare at each other, two fan favorites will face in two months. Flair offers the hand to Rhodes, Rhodes looks at the crowd and they are all screaming for him to shake it. And he does and 25,000 people in the arena go crazy. Flair and Rhodes shake hands. Rhodes goes to let go but Flair doesn't let go. Smiles and cheers quickly turn into silence and stares. Flair gives Dusty a low blow and down goes Dusty. Lauper is in shock just like the rest of the arena. Flair grabs the title and pummels Rhodes with it. Again Again Again Again And Again Lauper gets in the way and asks for him to stop, Flair swings the belt and hits Lauper with it. The crowds silence turn into boos as Flair has destroyed the number one contender and the WCW President. The powerful Hawk is surprised to see that Lane is bringing so vinegar in this match as Lane is able to corner Hawk. He pulls Hawks leg over the rope and starts to strike it. Lane picks Hawk up and hits a wonderful suplex. JJ Dillion has a look of excitement as this could be an early victory for Lane but Hawk kicks out at 2. Hawk is still on his back and lifts himself up only to be meet by a running boot. Schiavone asks Lauper what her response is to the actions of Flair to which she says she hasn't decided yet. Lauper: Flair will have to deal with some punishment but not this week. Krusher is slowly rising the ranks of the midcard and a win over Kevin will help his career and possibly put his name in the race for the Television Championship. The match starts off with Krusher doing what he does best, crush. A few shoulder blocks will hurt a man as Kevin is feeling but a surprising cross body by Krusher knocks Von Erich down. Krusher attempts a pin on Kevin but Kevin kicks out at 2. Krusher throws Kevin out of the ring and follows him out there. Krusher attempts to Irish whip Kevin into the ring post but Kevin reverses it and Krusher feels the effects of the ringpost. Kevin climbs back into the ring and the referee starts to count Krusher out. 1 2 3 4 Krushers Russian comrades Ivan and Nikita lift help Krusher back into the ring but the referee who is perhaps a bit sick of the Russians shenanigans Disqualifies Krusher because of outside interference. Scoop power slam to Steamboat will take the wind out of him. Wahoo McDaniel picks him up and hits another, and another and another. Steamboat is lifeless in the opening few minutes, Wahoo locks in a choke hold and grounds the Dragon. Ricky starts to clap to get the crowd behind him, he doesn’t need to the crowd are fully behind him and are complety against Wahoo. Steamboat is able to muscle up and is on his feet, he elbows the gut of Wahoo and then gives him a dropkick. Wahoo is down and Steamboat climbs the rope and leaps onto the now standing Wahoo with a cross-body. He pins Wahoo for the win. Dusty and Flair don’t speak, Rhodes goes first and the Funk Brothers are still arguing when Rhodes attacks Terry. Dory goes to the apron as the match will start with Terry and Dusty. Rhodes has some aggression that even takes the commutators off guard. He throws Terry into the corner and runs to the other side of the ring and then runs at Terry with a big boot in the corner. He could have pinned him there but lifts Terry back into the corner and runs to the other side again and runs and splashes Terry this time. He walks over to Flair and mummers something like that will be you. He drags Terry over to Flair and tags him in. Flair reluctantly goes in the ring and in the next few minutes goes to work on Terry. Flair lifts the leg of Terry and puts the figure four leg lock onto Terry. The hold is giving Terry a world of pain and is trying to flip the pressure and starts to crawl to Dory. Dory leans in and wants to be tagged in and so does Rhodes, Terry can’t get to him as the aggressive Flair lets to hold go and drags the body of Terry to the other side and puts the hold back on. Terry has no choice but to submit as the Figure-four is too much to handle. The Funk brothers are the first to notice the charging Russians and do as much as they can to get ready for them. Flair is the next to notice and he leaves the ring and hobbles up to the entrance-way. Rhodes finally notices after watching Flair leaves and gets ready for the Russians. It is a blood bath as the four Russians demolish three of WCWs Main Eventers. They push Dory and Terry out of the rind and surround Rhodes. The fans are livid and start to throw rubbish into the ring. The Russians lift the bloody and bruised Rhodes up and Ivan the obvious leader of the group hits a Russian Sickle. While this is happening Flair is watching up the ramp with his world title held tightly. The show closes with the Russian Federation staring at Flair.
