WCCW: The Rise Of Canadian Entertainment [ThunderVerse]

Recommended Posts

Gotta say, I'm really enjoying this dynasty. It has simple, but effective visuals and match descriptions.

Keep up the great work.

I love the way you are making this little promotion look larger than life. :D

Thanks both (and everyone else who has commented/predicted/been reading).

I'm really enjoying this game at the moment. The next two shows are written, and I booked the January show earlier today. I've also pre-booked as far as May so I'm definitely looking at a decent run at this. The ultimate goal is a TV deal, but I've realised that there are not many low level networks in Canada, so I might have to do some tweaking later on in the game :D

Just to a quick note to apologise for the delay. It's been a busy week in RL, so I've not had much time to do anything TEW related. The next show will be up in the next couple of days - I just need to find time to add in the pictures and double-check it all makes sense! :D

Apologies again for the delay - we had a minor ThunderVerse Vice dilemma this week which took up a bit of time (but is all sorted!). I'll do a WCCW double bill over the weekend to make up for the wait! :D

Thanks as always for the comments and predictions!

PRE-SHOW

TYRONE HARRIS w/Louis Vincent vs DANNY SIRUS w/Ms Sirus

Tyrone Harris against Danny Sirus was the first of the two singles contests pitting The Harris Brothers against The Wild Things, and Tyrone Harris ensured that his team would go one up with a solid victory in the pre-show, aided in no small part by Louis Vincent at ringside.

MATCH FINISH: Tyrone Harris via pinfall at 5:48 with a Danger On The Ice.

RATING: E-

Notes: Louis Vincent did some good work at ringside.

WCCW OBLIVION

Sunday, 20 October 2014 at Richmond High, Richmond BC (173)

JEROME HARRIS w/Louis Vincent vs RANDY LOVEMAN w/Ms Sirus

While Tyrone Harris earned a victory for his team in the pre-show, things weren't as straight forward for his brother Jerome against the other half of the Wild Things, Randy Loveman. Jerome didn't have as much luck as his sibling, however and, fired up by the earlier bout, Randy Loveman gave everything in this contest. The match itself was a little clumsy and far below the level expected, but Loveman won't mind after he evened the score for the Wild Things in less than six minutes.

MATCH FINISH: Randy Loveman via submission at 5:44 with a Lovelock.

RATING: F+

Notes: Jerome Harris got a lot of static, but has a good pairing with Louis Vincent. Vincent and Ms Sirus did good work at ringside. Harris and Loveman don't click.

TARA VICE vs JULIETTE SAINT JAMES

Juliette Saint James and her team earned a solid victory last month at Vendetta and she followed it up here with another great win over Tara Vice. Just two months ago Vice was challenging for the Women's title, so Saint James was certainly staking a claim for her own title shot with two wins on the bounce. A solid encounter, Vice started well but it was the speedy aerial ability of Saint James that won the day.

MATCH FINISH: Juliette Saint James via pinfall at 5:33 with an Across The Border.

But
Juliette Saint James
was gracious in victory, and after the bell rang she offered her hand to
Tara Vice
for a good showing. Vice looked confused but went to accept...only to hit her Tattoo City finisher instead! Vice stood over Saint James screaming over her defeat before making her way to the back as referee William Travers checked on the “victor”.

RATING: E+ match, F angle

NINA PLAZIAT vs LIZZIE BROOKS

The second of three women's division matches on the Oblivion card was also the best match of the night so far as one-half of the Queens of Quebec, Nina Plaziat, took on Lizzie Brooks. Brooks pinned Plaziat in last month's match, so the French-Canadian was out for revenge in this one, starting quickly by attacking Brooks before she had even entered the ring. This was a good old-fashioned Canadian mat classic, but Brooks struggled as the match wore on. Plaziat's experience in a competitive environment really helped her here, and after nine minutes locked in the Canadian Maple Leaf to secure the victory.

MATCH FINISH: Nina Plaziat via submission at 9:19 with a Canadian Maple Leaf.

RATING: D-

RAMPAGE REDD vs MICHAEL CURTIS

“The One” Michael Curtis made an open challenge last week, but there are few WCCW wrestlers that could have brought the difficult first match Rampage Redd provided. With Redd's power, strength and experience advantage, this one was all about the “Rampager”, while “The One” looked constantly shocked that he wasn't winning the contest easily. In fact, at one point Curtis looked set to give up and walked out of the ring, only for Redd to grab him by the hair and throw him back into the squared circle. In the end an inauspicious debut by Curtis ended badly – a Dominator Slam after ten minutes signalling his first loss in the company.

MATCH FINISH: Rampage Redd via pinfall at 10:54 with a Dominator Slam.

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/WCCW/MichaelCurtis.jpg

Michael Curtis
grabbed a microphone following his defeat, and began screaming and shouting about how the referee counted too quickly, the crowd were too loud and that Rampage Redd was cheating. Curtis said that he would not accept the result of the match, and made a second open challenge – to everyone except Rampage Redd – for next month's show, Immortality. Curtis demanded that the result from tonight be expunged, because the perfect record of “The One” begins in November!

RATING: E match, E- angle

NON-TITLE MATCH

CHLOE BOUREL w/Nina Plaziat vs NOVEMBER RAYNE

Chloe Bourel has long praised the women's division as being the most talented section of the WCCW roster, and once again her match with November Rayne proved that she could well be correct. A superb in-ring contest that featured brawling, mat work, and high-flying, Bourel and Rayne went back and forth for more than five minutes at a pace most wrestlers wouldn't be able to maintain for thirty seconds. When Nina Plaziat put in the boot at ringside early on the in contest she was sent to the back by Referee William Travers, but it didn't make much difference to Bourel's match. Instead, the French-Canadian tied Rayne in knots, and after seven-and-a-half minutes locked in the Canadian Cloverleaf to secure an impressive victory over the champion, even if the title wasn't on the line.

MATCH FINISH: Chloe Bourel via submission at 7:33 with a Canadian Cloverleaf.

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/WCCW/ChloeBourel.jpg

Just like the ending of the match between Redd and Curtis, the non-title match was followed by a promo. However, rather than the loser, this promo was cut by the winner,
Chloe Bourel
, who made sure that absolutely everyone in the arena knew that she had beaten the WCCW Women's champion in the centre of the ring, 1...2...3. Bourel said that her victory should have been for the title and proceeded to demand that Rayne put her title on the line against her sooner rather than later. If she didn't...well there'd be a price to pay!

RATINGS: D match, D angle

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/WCCW/DwaineKai.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/WCCW/MattGibson.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/WCCW/MikeGibson.jpg

Dwaine Kai
came to the ring for his match against Mason Avalon flanked by the two men he sided with last month at Vendetta – Matt and Mike,
the Gibson Brothers
. Kai may have been dwarfed by the two mountains at his side, but he looked more in charge than anything and the duo even held open the ropes for the Hawaiian. Kai grabbed a microphone, but refused to explain his actions at Vendetta, instead he told Mason Avalon to get to the ring quickly so that he could get this match over with. After all, he was being paid by the match, not by the hour!

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/WCCW/DwaineKai.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/WCCW/VS.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/WCCW/MasonAvalon.jpg

DWAINE KAI w/The Gibson Brothers vs MASON AVALON

The match itself was decent enough, although it was anything but a classic and was far from the level put on by the women's non-title match just prior. However, that didn't stop Avalon and Kai from proving that the young talent in WCCW had just as much to offer as the veterans, and their slugfest was nonetheless an entertaining one. Unsurprisingly, the ringside presence of the Gibson Brothers played a big part in the finish; as one distracted the referee, the other threw his title belt to Dwaine Kai. The shot from the title belt not only busted open Avalon, but more importantly it kept him down for the three count that followed.

MATCH FINISH: Dwaine Kai via pinfall at 10:48 after a shot from a WCCW World Tag Team title belt.

RATINGS: D+ angle, E+ match

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/WCCW/JDPowers.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/WCCW/Carbon.jpg

Before the main event could begin,
JD Powers
– who had come to the ring first – grabbed a microphone and began to hype his partner
Carbon
as a true beast of professional wrestling. Suggesting that his team's chances of victory were 100% guaranteed, Powers also revealed an added stipulation that WCCW Management had put in place for the match. Whoever earned the pinfall would get a shot at Wilson Hancock on next month's show, Immortality. Oh, and if Wilson Hancock won, then Carbon wouldn't get a title shot for a month...but that would never happen anyway. Just as Powers was about to continue his promo, the WCCW World Heavyweight champion's music hit and this contest was on!

http://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/WCCW/Carbon.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/WCCW/JDPowers.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/WCCW/VS.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/WCCW/BryanMitchell.jpghttp://i754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/jhdTEW/WCCW/WilsonHancock.jpg

CARBON & JD POWERS vs BRYAN MITCHELL & WILSON HANCOCK

Neither of these two pairings have much experience teaming together – not that much of shock given that this was Bryan Mitchell's first match in WCCW – and in the first few minutes of the match it was very clear as neither team showed any really co-ordination. Surprisingly, it was Carbon and JD Powers that worked the best as a unit, and their slick interchanges and willingness to double-team regularly put them in front early on. A hot tag to Bryan Mitchell brought things back around to the fan favourites, but a low blow from JD Powers turned the tide once again. Wilson Hancock and Carbon ended up spending most of their time on the outside looking in, trying to get in on the action, only for the referee to send them back out having failed to spot the tag. When the two finally hit the ring together the place erupted, but it wasn't long until all four men were brawling in the centre of the ring. As Travers attempted to sort out who were the legal men, JD Powers passed a foreign object to Carbon...who laid out Bryan Mitchell flat with a vicious shot of his right hand...plus whatever it was he had held in there! Wilson Hancock pleaded with the referee, but JD Powers dragged him from the apron just in time for Carbon to roll up Mitchell for a shock victory for the villains. Not only did Bryan Mitchell lose his first match in WCCW...but Wilson Hancock lost his first match as champion too!

MATCH FINISH: Carbon & JD Powers via pinfall at 18:37 with a roll up.

TITLE: Having made the pinfall, Carbon will get a WCCW World Heavyweight title shot next month.

RATINGS: C- angle, D- match

Notes: JD Powers worked the crowd well during his promo, using the freedom to improvise to his advantage. Carbon got a lot of static from a vocal crowd in the match, while Bryan Mitchell and Wilson Hancock's timing as a team was all over the place.
