My name is Mike LeDoux, most of you probably know me for my bit in "I Want to Be a Wrestler". In case you forgot, I was the punk trained by Magnum Kirchart that got a tryout with PWI and blew it when I couldn't keep my mouth shut around Shane Allman. Apparently that tirade is still quite popular among AWF fans. What have been up to since? Well, as you can imagine, not many promoters were willing to give someone like me a chance after that, so I mostly surfed the outcast indys like GWS, MHR and SUX, the attention from that last one got me spots in POW and as a manager in AWW too. I actually got to tour with Pro Wrestling HONOUR earlier this year as well. Made some good friends in Japan, in particular, a man by the name of PINK Shotaro.

See, 'Taro had been trying to schmooze his way onto the HONOUR roster since day one, so he was almost always at one show, at least, each week. I guess I was the first person to give him the time of day, as he lit up each time we spoke. It makes sense though, not many people in Japan, fans or wrestlers, cared for his more American style of working. Personally, I don't see why you can't have both, but, alas, when you're a "young lion" no one cares what you have to say. Taro and I spent most of the time talking about wrestling in the States, usually with me trying my best to convince him that it'd be a waste of time to move there. You think his skills are wasted in Japan? Just wait until some idiot like Jerry King gets his hands on him, or, God forbid, another rambling Shane Allman blog post cuts him off from half the indys.

 

I did enjoy my time in Japan though. My matches with Fergus Storm and Magobei Morita number among my personal favorites. Not to mention that it was a nice break from the constant talk about PWI and my nonexistent rivalry with Allman. I hate the guy's guts for sure, but I'm not exactly in a position to compete with him now am I? Anyways, by the time I got back I was real beat up, so I decided, for the first time since I debuted two years ago, to take a vacation. I was actually kind of cool just taking a load off at home, a few people around town even recognized me from the one-off POW/AWW Smokies Rising show. It's not every day an indy guy like me has a little kid come up to him and act like they're talking to a superhero...in the middle of a grocery store. Things continued the same for the next month and a half as I enjoyed a new version of summer vacation. Then, one day, my doorbell rings. I open the door and who do I see?

Well, that's actually why I'm here. As owner and sole member of Gureisu Pro Wrestling, I'm out scouting talent and, as it just so happens, you were right next door.

I felt ready to puke, "This is such a stupid idea..." I thought to myself. We hadn't had any trouble getting talent, I'm still in awe I got Spike Daryl and Magobei Morita on board with this. Morita-san actually came to us after he heard about Taro's little "excursion". I figured he'd balk the minute we told him what we were planning, and yet...</p><p> </p><p>

That wasn't even the end of the surprises, as not long after, the owner of the Dy-no-mite! Sportsplex downtown offered to let us use his building as the venue for Immortal Combat. He even insisted on adding props and the like to make it resemble those old temples you see in kung-fu flicks during shows. Taro, being his usual self, jumped at that chance and decided to name it, The Temple of Combat. But the lucky streak we'd been on is what worried me. I'd never had such great luck in my life, why would it start now? Did Taro's bad luck cancel mine out? The whole time we were putting up the ring and the decorations, I kept expecting something to go wrong, someone was going to no-show, I knew it. The hours passed and everyone showed up, except Mai-Li Kato. "I told you so." I muttered to myself.</p><p> </p><p>

I knew that voice, I was torn between relief at being wrong and anger for making me worry, just as I chose anger and turned to rip into her, I bore witness to the vision before me.</p><p> </p><p>

Thus the ten became an eleven... It occurred to me about this point that I was just staring, mouth agape. Mai-Li hadn't seemed to notice yet, but all the same, it was still probably a good time to say something.</p><p> </p><p>

I smiled, a bit embarrassed. Magnum had always been like a second father to me, he even let me use the name Magnum after the PWI debacle. And, as you probably already guessed, Colt took to me like I was his own brother. With the reputation I've gained, I'm not sure how this will sound to others, but the Kircharts helped me become the man I am today. I know that, even at the lowest points of my life, Magnum and Colt will be there to help me back up. So if Colt wants to play some cowboy/ninja hybrid that may or may not be just a figment of his imagination, I'm letting him play a cowboy/ninja hybrid that may or may not be just a figment of his imagination.</p><p> </p><p>

I needed that talk. By the time I went to go double-check everything before we opened the doors, all my worries were gone. Who cares if this fails? Taro's got way more money than what we're using. After the show, backstage

 

I really should have thought out the Tarantula spot better. Mick and I spent the last three matches hiding under the ring, crowded by everything we'd used for special effects and a monitor so I could watch the rest of the show. However, we had forgotten about waiting for everybody to file out after the show. Including the matches, we lay flat on a hard basketball court for an hour and a half, with me craning my neck most of that time to look at the monitor. By the time we were finally able to get to the back, Mick was hunched over like an old man and my neck felt like it was ready to pop off at any moment. So, of course Taro glomps me the minute I'm through the curtain.

 

That was awesome!

 

Gah! Easy there, cowboy!

 

Sorry! It's just that this might have been the best show I've ever been a part of! Everybody else agrees too, right?

 

I've done better...

 

Well nobody asked you, Spike!

 

Are we talking just comedy, or straight wrestling shows as well?

 

You too, Richie?

 

Give it a rest, Taro. After the work they put in, especially Richie, they could insult my mother for all I care. Same goes for you, Morita-san. The three of you proved beyond a shadow of a doubt why you're our top guys! Can I get an "Oh, yeah"?

 

Oh, yeah!

 

But, we're not resting on our laurels. We're coming back even stronger next month!

 

I still have no idea where all that came from. I was sore, tired and I wanted to go home before I stepped through that curtain. I just looked at everybody and didn't see a single long face among them. I can't think of any other show where I've seen that. Every other time I've walked back, there was always somebody arguing about something, a group of people politicking in the corner and the one guy excluded from every clique like this was freaking high school. None of that was there that night. Even Spike Daryl, a guy I'd heard nothing about but the tales about how angry and violent he was, was sitting with everybody, still dressed in full Japanese sky god getup, laughing and joking around. After my speech, Taro looked at me with a grin.

 

Where did that come from?

 

Eh, I watch a lot of sports movies.

 

 

 

The next day

 

I uploaded our show to YouTube, no way did we have enough money left over to put out decent DVDs. Among the barrage of, "First!" "LOL wrestlings fake!!!" "What a joek, go watch PWI kiddos." and "WTF did I just watch?." were some actual bits of praise, "IMMORTAL COMBAT! Awesome" "I was there it was a blast from start to finish" and my personal favorite, "Completely moronic drivel targeted at the lowest common denominator, I want more!". We even got some coverage from the dirt sheets, most of it about us "wasting" the talent we had. Still, it was coverage that we weren't getting before. Now it was time to look into who would be joining us for next month.

My phone's ringtone stirred me from my slumber, I looked at the clock, it was noon. "Eh, I slept in long enough." I thought as I reached for the phone.

It was fine, aside from your "surprise".

 

I already told you, nobody told me you were trying to impress Mai-Li.

 

Oh, right, a loner like me just up and decided to invite someone I've had about three decent conversations with to my birthday party because we're such close friends.

 

Probably wasn't the best idea then to take her to a strip club.

 

How could I have know about that!? That was the surprise!

 

Let's just agree to disagree. Anyways, I just wanted to call and tell you I resigned Mania.

Yeah, it was weird, you accidentally just gave him a one month contract.

 

That wasn't an accident! Carno died at Immortal Combat!

*sigh* It doesn't work like that. Gureisu's stupid, but not that stupid. I have to give some kind of reason he came back.

 

Then just say that it seemed like he died.

 

Oda left his corpse in the ring! He's dead and he's not coming back!

 

Well, then you're going to have to fire him yourself.

 

Are you seriously doing this to me?

 

Mike, I've given you leeway that bookers rarely, if ever, get. You got to sign the talent, were allowed to make whatever promises you needed to get them, and even now, you have the power to fire anyone you wish. But if you think I'm just going to sit by and let someone like Mania go after the reception he got, then maybe you don't deserve the trust I'm giving you.

 

...Okay, I'll think of something for him.

 

I really hate it when Taro drops the idiot act.

Sounds like a grand idea! And keeps in line with the MK feel of this.
