Main Event Wrestling: A New Era of Pro Wrestling

Recommended Posts

In the aftermath of WWE closing its doors in October of 2008, Mark Calaway takes over the regional Main Event Wrestling in January of 2009. Can The Deadman bring MEW into the spotlight and turn them into a competitor of the now National TNA?

Also note that as soon as I took over as Taker and as then owner of MEW, I bought the WWE Tag Titles and signed Cody Rhodes and Dolph Ziggler to be in an upstart tag division. Also, the ex-ROH champion Xavier is my 'MEW National' Champion or basically my world champ. I hope you all will enjoy this badassery as much as I will:D

I'll be truly starting in February as I already booked my first show with the highlights being thus:

Taker defeated Nigel McGuiness, and Xavier have a post match attack and taunt stating that MEW was "his company'

Cody Rhodes and Dolph Ziggler (The New Breed) defeated Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards (The American Wolves) for the newly bought WWE tag team titles.

Other than that though, this dynasty is ready to begin and I can wait to start writing it! Oh, and following this, I will post the roster (roster that I will mainly be using).

<p>The Dynasty Can Finally Begin!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Things that have happened:</strong></p><p><strong>

Firing of Antonio Banks after antagonizing Nigel</strong></p><p><strong>

TV Deal and now MEW Weekly!</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>MEW Weekly March Week 1, 2009</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

The show starts with a hype video of Xavier and Taker, showing the development of these two. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#00FF00;">89 B+</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

The first match of MEW's TV is Davey Richards vs Xavier which features a lot of good back and forth action with it mainly being an open contest until Xavier is able to control late in the match and then from there prove why he is the MEW National Champion as he technically dismantles Richards. Richards tries to get back into the match with a flurry of martial arts like kicks, but is easily taken out of the match with a devastating super kick. From there Xavier hits the 450 splash of the lifeless Richards.</p><p>

Xavier defeats Richards via pinfall in 14:54 <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#006400;">74 B-</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Xavier takes a mic and dismantles Taker with his words. Xavier taunts the Deadman and says that he will be the one to end the Deadman for good.</p><p>

<strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#9ACD32;">78 B</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

In a throwaway TV match, Test faced Jay Briscoe and dominated the vast majority with Briscoe only getting a few good shots in. Test hits a big Boot for the win to win via pinfall in 4:29 <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#A0522D;">52 D+</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Up next, Nigel McGuinness cuts an average promo hyping himself and how good he is, in the backstage area. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#FFFF00;">71 C+</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Next is an impromptu tag team title match between the reigning champs, the New Breed, consisting of Rhodes and Ziggler, who face the team of Eddie Edwards and Elijah Burke. A back and forth match really highlight the inexperience of the tag champs, although they are getting better as they face guys like Eddie Edwards regularly, however this one wasn't a bright spot of any of the performers and is a below average match. Rhodes defeats Elijah Burke via submission in 11:40 to retain the tag team titles with Dolph Ziggler. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#FFA500;">57 C-</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

A cool down angle features a video of the destruction that Andrew Martin has laid in his wake. Sub-par for the big guy. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#F4A460;">60 C</span></strong><strong> </strong></p><p> </p><p>

The main event of the first ever MEW Weekly! is a match between Taker and Aries, which Xavier sits in for commentary with Kevin Kelly and Chicky Starr, he has excellent chemistry with Kevin Kelly, oddly enough. Anyway, this is a longer match although Taker gets most of the offense, although not enough for it to be considered domination. Throughout most of the match, Xavier and Taker have intense staredowns that give Aries the advantage. These distractions are not enough however as Taker is the eventual winner of the main event. Taker wins with a Chokeslam via pinfall in 10:09. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#9ACD32;"> 82 B</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Overall Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#006400;">77 B-</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

That's the end of the show. Oh, and for the bigger events and eventually PPVs, the match descriptions will be longer and everything will have more detail involved with it. Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed the first show of MEW and please reply, rate, and subscribe. Thank you.<img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

<p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">MEW Weekly March Week 2, 2009</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

The show starts with Xavier calling Taker out and eventually he does come out, but he is blindsided by the apparent allies of Xavier, Cody Rhodes, and Dolph Ziggler. Together, the three beatdown Taker. Well below average segment for those involved. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#FFA500;">62 C</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Aries and Andrew Martin are out next to inform the crowd that they are now a tag team. Name to yet be decided. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#FFFF00;">66 C+</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

John Morrison faces Elijah Burke in a squash match next that highlights Morrison's incredible athleticism. Morrison wins with a Super Kick in 3:51. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#FFA500;">64 C</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Xavier, Ziggler, and Rhodes boast about what they did to Taker earlier. All improvised and only Cody Rhodes could improvise well, which ruined the segment. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#F4A460;">57 C-</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

In a huge squash match, Nigel McGuinness dominates Adam Flash, an enhancement talent. Nigel won via pinfall in 1:41. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#F4A460;">54 C-</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Announcers hype the Tag Team Title Number One Contender's match between The American Wolves and Aries and Martin. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#FFA500;">65 C</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

The tag team match hyped earlier begins with back and forth action before Aries and Martin take over with quick tag ins and Aries' speed and Martin's strength combine perfectly to quickly dominate the Wolves. Though through sheer determination fight back into the match and even the odds and as the match goes on, it is clear that their stamina is much higher than that of Martin's and even of Aries'. The Wolves determination isn't enough though as they come up just short as Aries is able to put Richards down long enough so that he can hit the 450 Splash on Davey. Aries defeats Richards via pinfall in 8:53. The NEW No. 1 Contenders: Austin Aries and Andrew Martin <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#FFFF00;">69 C+</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

The final match of MEW Weekly! is Xavier vs. Jay Briscoe. The match is long, though Xavier had the upperhand for the vast majority of the match and uses a large chunk of time to taunt the fans of what he did to Taker earlier. Overall, just a match to showcase Xavier's in ring talent. Xavier wins via pinfall in 13:05. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#FFA500;">65 C</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

As Xavier celebrates, the lights go out as Taker's music hits. The lights come back on and the music stops as Xavier turns around to be face to face with the Deadman, who clobbers him with relentless right hands that send Xavier scurrying out of the ring and up the aisle way, all the while the two stare down. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#006400;">77 B-</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Overall Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#FFFF00;">68 C+</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Not as good of show as the first, but who can top their first show, really?<img alt=";)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/wink.png.686f06e511ee1fbf6bdc7d82f6831e53.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

MEW Weekly Week 3 March, 2009

MEW No Turning Back, Sunday Week 4. Medium Sized Show

The start of the show features a now healthy Taker cutting a promo on Xavier and The New Breed for their ambush on him last week. Taker also hypes the handicap match between him and The New Breed as the main event. Rating: 82 B

Next on the show is the 'underused' John Morrison facing Jay Briscoe in a match that showed Morrison's athleticism and move set and alsoo featured another poor performance by Jay Briscoe, who is sadly quickly becoming the main jobber of MEW. A pretty good match overall. Morrison wins via pinfall in 8:15 Rating: 73 B-

The next segment is of The New Breed taunting Taker and hyping the handicap match even more. These two are really starting to come into their own as entertainers and mic workers. Rating: 68 C+

The next match on the show is an unfocused match between Eddie Edwards and Orlando Jordan. An open match, it does neither performers very good as their odd pairing is a turn off to the crowd, which in turn ruins the match, overall. Edwards wins via pinfall in 10:02. Rating: 57 C-

Aries, McGuinness, Andrew Martin, and the debuting Derrell Poirier form the "Un-American Alliance." And talk about how bad America is. Derrell was the only one who gave an awful performance. Although, the angle wasn't very good to begin with. Rating: 52

Davey Richards is out to meet the Un-Americans and Test steps up to put the American Spirit down as an impromptu match between him and Richards ends when he is able to hit a Big Boot on Richards and win via pinfall in 8:57

Rating: 67 C+

The Main Event of the night was up next and featured a ton of interference as the number one contenders, Aries and Martin attacked The New Breed and Xavier distracted Taker. However the interference didn't hinder the match rating however as the fans ate up The Undertaker physically dominating the two youngsters most of the match and the only offense these outmatched youngsters could muster were high spots that the crowd found entertaining. The end result was Taker chokeslamming Ziggler, winning via pinfall in 12:21

Rating: 78 B

The final segment of the show is a post match brawl between Xavier and Taker which features a lot of heavy blows for both men. It ends as the two brawl to the backstage area. Rating: 79

Overall Rating: 76 B-

Well that's all folks:p. Anyway, that was a fairly decent show, much better than last week's which develops two matches for MEW No Turning Back: Aries and Martin vs. The New Breed for the WWE Tag Team titles and Xavier vs The Undertaker for the MEW National title. It's a good time to be an MEW fan;)

<p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">MEW Weekly March Week, 2009</span></strong></p><p>

<strong>MEW No Turning Back, Sunday Week 4. Medium Sized Show</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Joey Ryan is out to open the show, wearing a business style suit, with a mic. Once in the ring, he tells the fans out he is the 'Director of Operations of MEW' somehow, doesn't really make sense, but nobody is out to stop the now Mr. Joseph Ryan, so perhaps he isn't lying. Anyway, he tells the fans that he is running the show but before he can finish, he is interrupted by Jay Briscoe, Ryan sets a match between the two. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#FFA500;">64 C</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Mr. Joseph Ryan uses his seemingly heavenly power to defeat Jay Briscoe by using chairs and low blows to gain the upperhand. Ryan wins via pinfall in 5:48. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#FFFF00;">68 C+</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Xavier is out to next to taunt Taker once again before their match. Xavier seems to be becoming more comfortable with a microphone. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#9ACD32;">83 B</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

The number one contenders for the WWE Tag Titles, Aries and Martin, The Un-Americans are up next to face Miz And Morrison. This is good, even bout that features a lot of high spots between the two teams. Though, it ends when Andrew Martin steps in and destroys The Miz and pins him via pinfall 10:59. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#FFFF00;">68</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Xavier is back out to maybe taunt Taker again, but before he can Taker's music can be heard and Taker is stroding out to the ring but before he can get there, Xavier is escaping through the crowd. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#9ACD32;">81 B</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Nigel McGuinness comes out to a chorus of boos, to which he smirks and waits for his opponent, Elijah Burke come out. Nigel dominates the short match and while the match isn't all that good, it shows how dominant Nigel is and does it purpose. Nigel wins via pinfall in 3:44. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#F4A460;">58</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

The New Breed are in the ring hyping themselves up as the most deserving to team to be champs. It was a decent promo but expose their inexperience. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#FFA500;">62</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

In a tuneup before The Undertaker, Xavier takes on Davey Richards in the final main event before MEW No Turning Back. This is a pretty good main event that is a good showing for how dangerous Xavier is. Xavier defeats Davey via pinfall in 12:15. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#006400;">74 B-</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Xavier cuts a quick promo, clearly afraid of the Deadman, about how he'll destroy Taker come No Turning Back. A lack of development from Xavier leads to a rushed and irrelevant promo. <strong>Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#FFA500;">65 C</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Overall Rating: </strong><strong><span style="color:#006400;">74 B-</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

So there it is! The final MEW Weekly before No Turning Back and now with a possible push for Mr. Joseph Ryan, who can stand in the power-hungry businessman's way? And how will Xavier vs. The Deadman end up? Who will succeed as the reigning champions after MEW No Turning Back? So many questions about the future of MEW, but one thing is certain, MEW is where it's at!<img alt=";)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/wink.png.686f06e511ee1fbf6bdc7d82f6831e53.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

I like this. Very interesting read. I have to say I'm actually interested in the Xavier/Taker feud, whereas when I began I really wasn't. Glad Aries and Martin took out Miz & Morrison. Your shows are short and sweet, but not lacking substance. The writing and booking are both solid. Can't wait for No Turning Back, you've got a fan here!
