The "if you don't like it...don't play that way" argument

Recommended Posts

This argument has been used against any feature to improve game balance in the TEW series since 2004. This argument is usually accompanied by " gameplay doesn't matter in a game where you can just use the editor", "people play the game fine if they impose restrictions on themselves and try to book naturally."

You could counteract such arguments with "Why don't you just play the game on pen and paper?", "Some features like Keep Strong, Dominate, Major Success, Recent Fortunes, and others are almost impossible NOT to abuse if you have a basic understanding of the mechanics." "Why don't you want to improve the gameplay to potentially attract a larger audience?"

If you see someone suggest an improvement to gameplay can you not give it one star and say "you're playing it wrong."

Either argue against the idea based on its merits or don't argue against it all.

If you want less restrictions than suggest something like the recent "EWR mode" which gives you less restrictions. Add to the suggestion with ways to make the feature more realistic. Allow for different game strategies but provide benefits of each.

For TEW2016, can we vow not to use the "if you don't like it, don't play that way" argument? And make more constructive arguments?

1. I really dont think there's any way this could end well but saying that...

2. This is essentially chastising someone because they save every 5 seconds when playing fallout, or using favorable sliders in sports games. There simply is no right way to play any game.
