augielio
In BB, there are two folders for names--one for first names and one for last names. How do you get those names incorporated into the game's name generator? I have added several of each (maybe 100 first names and 100 last names), but I haven't seen them appear in a game yet--as a player, a recruit, etc. How does the game generate its new names? Obviously there are defaults, but how do new ones get introduced?
Bobble
I was wondering the same thing. Have you gone through an off-season and still not seen new names in the new seasons?
Chappy
I'd be interested in the answer too - I'm tired of the NFL miss-match names! Emmit Biakabatuka? Peerless Marino? Ugh.
wareagle
Come on, editor ! I agree totally. I had a halfback named Willie Butkus, ugh.
Tim Plum
In the Name folder you add first, frequency and/or last names, frequency. The higher the number the more frequent the name will appear.
Big Six
Is there a way to see what the frequency of each name will be BEFORE I add any? When I click on "firstnames.txt" or "lastnames.txt" I get the instructions Tim just posted, but no list of existing names. I'd like to change the frequency of some names, but I have no idea how frequently they're being used now.
Arlie Rahn
The only way to change the frequency of existing names is to edit the table in stats.dat and change the number of occurences.
Big Six
Thanks, Arlie. Which program should I use to edit the stats.dat file?
Tim Plum
MS Access or other dbase editor will work.
Big Six
Thanks, Tim. I thought that was the right program, but I feel better hearing it from you. :)
ConStar
Is "number of chances name is chosen" on a 1-100 scale?
Big Six
Now that I have a new laptop with Access 2007, I'm having problems working with stats.dat. I can't edit it at all unless I save another copy of it to my computer, and then I'm having difficulty getting BBCF to recognize the edited file. Any suggestions? UWRJL
Help I am pretty computer illiterate. If I want to mess with player names in the data base how exactly do I do that? If have microsoft office, but can't seem to find MS Access. What do I need to do?
Gallifrey
You may have deselected Access when installing Office. Put in your MS Office disc and go through the steps to install programs. You will have an option to select what you want, and you select Access here.
