Let me educate you – the Diamond Exchange set the standard, we set the pace, and we beat respect into anyone who think we can’t back up our words with actions.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Because I’ve known you a long time, Shawn, and mostly what I’ve seen is someone who parties harder than he wrestles – and that’s why you’ve never been a champion-</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Michaels responded by raising his title belt, but Hart continued.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

What do you say, boys?</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>Vegas: </strong></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">A challenge? Yeah, I can give the Hitman a challenge. Met a few of them over the years, sometimes ‘cause they thought I was cheating the house. Imagine! They learned not to doubt me. You will, too.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="rpdQLCw.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rpdQLCw.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Before the main event, Sting and Ricky Steamboat shared some of their considerable experience with Dustin Rhodes – and offered encouragement to Barry Windham! The big brawler from Sweetwater, Texas put on a great showing against Rick Rude in their non-title match, but with Madusa at ringside he could have done with some help of his own; Instead, the referee fell victim to a distraction from the Dangerous Alliance’s Director of Covert Operations, allowing Rude to punt Windham between the legs, and score with a Rude Awakening as Windham had no chance to recover!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

It was a night much given over to the NWA tag title tournament, with three of the quarter finals taking place during the show. In the night’s opening contest, the Stocks And Shares Express put on a great showing against the tag champions, but came up short as Scott Steiner scored with a Frankensteiner.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Could there be the first signs of discontent among the Dangerous Alliance? Neither Rick Rude nor Paul E. Dangerously seemed happy that Steve Austin could be fighting for the World title at Clash XXI, but Austin argued that he couldn’t turn down the opportunity – and Madusa would be in place to make sure </div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>both</em></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> sides fought fairly. Whether Austin or Rude won the match, it would be all good for the Dangerous Alliance! Rude and Dangerously had to accept that – especially when Madusa backed Austin’s position.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

One thing to be said for Austin is that he could potentially be fighting three times at Clash XXI – the Dangerous Alliance pairing of Austin and Arn Anderson won a hard-hitting affair against the New Japan duo of the Great Muta and Jyushin Thunder Liger. With the semi-finals and final match taking place at the Clash, and Austin needing to beat Sting just to get to the main event match against Rude, next week is shaping up to be a huge one in the career of ‘Stunning’ Steve!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

And if one intra-Alliance match is causing problems for the group, what about the possibility of two? The Calgary Connection overcame the All Japan representative Mitsuharu Misawa and Toshiaki Kawada in an enthralling contest on Saturday night, with the US tag titlists unveiling a new finisher they’ve dubbed Ice Cold In Alberta to finish off Kawada after nearly twenty minutes of thrilling action. As things stand, the Connection and Anderson and Austin are both just one win away from a match against each other – for the NWA tag team titles!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Nikita Koloff once again refused to accept Cactus Jack’s challenge for a match, as the wild man from Truth or Consequences still hasn’t been medically cleared – and no wonder, after being hit by a car! Harley Race once again approached Cactus, saying that he ‘knows someone’ who can clear Cactus for competition. Now, we’re not fans of Cactus Jack, but surely even he knows to look after his health... No, you know what, we’re </div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><em>not</em></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> sure about that!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

We have a new Television champion! Dustin Rhodes, who’s had a torrid time of it with gold on the line, overcame Mr Hughes in his attempt to Beat The Champ – but he may want to buy Firebreaker Chip, Todd Champion and The Patriot a thank you gift! The Special Forces trio stopped the One Percenters from interfering, and Rhodes scored with a Bulldog to take the pin, and his second Television title. Can he keep hold of it for more than 24 hours this time? Both Thomas Rich and Terence Taylor are lined up for title shots in the next week, so Alexandra York’s algorithms will be working overtime to keep his reign short!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The Diamond Exchange, huh? They work well as a group, and that may allow them to keep their Six Man titles for a long, long time – as they showed against Marcus Bagwell and the Thrillseekers. Even with Ric Flair in their corner, the crowd favourites (especially among the ladies) couldn’t find the answer to the devastating power of Vinnie Vegas, the savvy of Diamond Studd and athleticism of Shawn Michaels. And how about Vegas vs. Bret Hart at Clash XXI – and Shawn Michaels maybe coming out of the show as a double champion!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

World Championship Wrestling presents: Main Event

Sunday, Week 2, April 1992

Your commentators: Tony Schiavone, Eric Bischoff and Magnum T.A.

WCW Hotline Show Notes

bHxsFWk.jpg

With so many competitors involved in the NWA tag title tournament at the Clash, Main Event delivered three big title matches, opening with Randy Savage and Scott Steiner defending the WCW World tag titles against the Lightning Express. The challengers did their best, but both Savage and Steiner are on top form right now, and overpowered Horner and Armstrong en route to victory.

Arn Anderson laid his United States title on the line against one half of the Young Pistols as he and Steve Armstrong contested a slow-burning encounter. Armstrong is better known as a tag competitor, but showed he has the talent to be a future contender to singles gold here in WCW as he pushed Anderson hard, although Anderson’s experience told as he landed a DDT for the pin.

The other half of the Young Pistols had a shot against the World champion, Rick Rude, albeit that the title wasn’t on the line. Smothers seemed a little nervous in the match, and that contributed to his downfall as he hesitated on the top rope, allowing Rude to military press him to the mat, following up with a Rude Awakening for the win!

A wild six man contest pitting Ron Simmons and the Thrillseekers against the Dangerous Alliance trio of Austin, Pillman and Hart saw all manner of fast and furious action, with all six men strutting their stuff. In the end, however, it was the experience of the Alliance teammates that told – including that of their Director of Covert Operations, Madusa, who pulled Jericho off the ring apron, preventing Storm from making the tag and leaving him open to Ice Cold In Alberta!

Dustin Rhodes is proud of his new TV title, getting a second chance to prove himself in singles competition – even as he and Barry Windham advance in the NWA tag title tournament. He had assistance of an unexpected sort in his defence against Terence Taylor, however, as Thomas Rich tried to get involved in the match only to ‘accidentally’ clock Taylor on the jaw. That was enough to hand Rhodes the match and a successful title defence – and leave Taylor wondering how accidental the shot was, given Rich is next up on Rhodes’ schedule!

World Championship Wrestling presents: Saturday Night

Saturday, Week 3, April 1992

Your commentators: Jim Ross and Paul E. Dangerously

Segment of the Night no. 1 – A match for the warrior

myJ9THe.jpg

Jesse Ventura was in his office, pacing back and forth. Normally imperturbable, WCW’s Commissioner clearly had something – or someone – on his mind. Reaching one end of the room he turned around...

IeAWhUB.jpg

...and was face to face with the man who’d been invading WCW events in recent weeks.

Ventura
:
I don’t want you here, understand? I think you’re an uncontrollable menace, hell bent on some personal mission to prove yourself better than everyone else. I could get behind that, usually, but I think you operate in your own world, by your own rules, and that makes things difficult for me.

The other man stared back at him, impassive.

Ventura
:
If it were up to me, you’d be banned from any stadium or arena that WCW visited, and you’d not be allowed within a mile of this company.

Visitor:
And yet...
you
contacted
me
.

Ventura’s expression, already hostile, turned still more so.

Ventura
:
I can’t deny that when the fans saw you... they were excited. They were excited, they were loud, they were pumped up... and when Rude saw you, he looked like he’d seen a ghost. So I want to know, is he why you’re here? Do you and Rude have issues that need resolving, because if so, you can find a back alley and have it out.

Visitor:
Rick Rude and I... have clashed in the past. Our battles were legion, and legendary. He was one of my most trying opponents. But that was then. A true warrior seeks only the next challenge. Has Rude improved since we last fought? Perhaps, but that is not my primary interest in facing him.

Ventura
:
The title, then.

Visitor:
To stand at the top of the mountain. To be the focus of all others. To face challenges on a regular basis from any and all contenders... Yes, this is what brings me here. Rude has succeeded. I
will
succeed... if, that is, you believe that the contenders that you have gathered here are capable of entering a ring with me on equal terms.

Ventura’s grimace turned into a slight smile.

Ventura
:
Equal terms? We have Rick Rude, we have Sting, we have Arn Anderson, we have Randy Savage, we have Scott Steiner, Barry Windham, Steve Austin and a whole host more... And you’re asking about equal terms?

Visitor:
I am.

He smiled at Ventura, who did not smile back.

Ventura
:
You show up at the Clash, you’ll have an opponent – someone as big as you, and as strong as you. You can take on the Diamond Studd. Win that... and we’ll see what happens next.

Visitor:
One of your champions? I accept your challenge, and will face this Diamond Studd. He acts as part of a group, but I only ever fight alone. If his allies interfere, they will all find out why I am the Ultimate Warrior!

Segment of the Night no. 1 – Sting vs. Steve Austin

uyXVAaB.jpgwsgVtfP.jpgq8m9fFW.jpg8pRFZsl.jpgk3ygh4n.jpg

Although Madusa was the only member of the Dangerous Alliance to accompany Austin to the ringside, Rick Rude took up a spot in the aisle, title belt securely around his waist, his attention fixed on the ring.

Ross:
Let me guess, he’s here to make sure that this is a good, clean, fight with no interference or funny business.

Dangerously:
You know, Ross, I couldn’t have put it better myself.

While Austin is a fine athlete, he’s not Sting’s equal either in strength or in speed, and in the early going he struggled to match the more experienced competitor.

However, little by little, the Dangerous Alliance man began to make ground on Sting. With Madusa’s guidance and a careful disregard of the rules that showed considerable ring savvy, if not great moral fibre, Austin slowed Sting down and forced him to the mat. While Austin may not be a technical wrestler on a par with Arn Anderson, he has clearly learned from his occasional partner and worked over Sting’s surgically-repaired knee, driving it into the mat and immobilising his opponent.

Dangerously:
Austin’s come on in leaps and bounds since working the Alliance.

Ross:
I can’t argue with you there, Paul. He can be proud of his progress. I can see him being a big, big star in the near future.

Dangerously:
You say the nicest things, Ross. Maybe I’ve had you wrong all these years.

Ross:
Of course, the real test will be whether he can take down Rick Rude for the World title.

Dangerously:
You had to go and spoil it, didn’t you?

With a bad knee, Sting seemed easy pickings for Austin. The younger man continued his attack, leaping off the second rope with a double knee drop that had Sting writing in pain, but rather that continue the assault Austin posed for the crowd, soaking up their vitriol.

Ross:
Maybe not so smart.

Dangerously:
These kids today... He’ll get back to it when he’s good and ready- There, you see?

Austin turned back to Sting and reached down to pick him up off the mat. However, Sting moved quickly, rolling Austin up and getting a close two count. Although Austin managed to get his shoulder off the mat, he seemed rattled by the sudden reversal and walked into a scoop slam that Sting followed up with a trio of elbow drops to the small of Austin’s back. Although favouring his knee, Sting showed great determination and strength as he pressed Austin overhead and dropped him to the mat, leaving Austin grimacing as he clutched at his back.

Madusa took this opportunity to jump up onto the apron. Yelling at Sting, she succeeded in attracting his attention, buying her client time to regain his wits. He charged at Sting, but Sting stepped deftly aside and Austin had to put on the brakes to avoid running into Madusa. Taking advantage of Austin’s hesitation, Sting hurled him overhead with a big back suplex.

Ross:
I suspect he learned that from working with the Steiners!

With Austin stunned on the mat, Sting quickly hooked his legs and turned him over into a Scorpion Deathlock. His back already hurt from Sting’s focused attack, Austin held out for an impressively long time before being left with no choice but to submit.

Ross:
Sting wins! Sting wins!

Dangerously:
Alright, Ross, calm down – whatever happened to impartiality? But I guess that means that there’ll be no World title match at the Clash. Shame, but I guess Rick can be an alternate for the tournament-

Jesse Ventura walked down the aisle and climbed into the ring. He nodded to Austin and shook Sting’s hand.

Ventura
:
I have to tell you, that was an incredible match – probably one of the best that WCW has ever shown here on Saturday night, if I do say so myself!

Ventura
:
Now, when I made this match I told Austin that he’d get a World title match if he won. He lost, but he put on a great performance in defeat, just the sort of thing I was hoping for when I became Commissioner. Austin, you may have lost, but you went down swinging and had Sting in real trouble. Another six months, even another
three
months, and maybe it’d be you standing here with your hand being raised. You can be proud of yourself, and something tells me that you’ll be back here in the main event, probably in less than three months, demanding a shot, demanding the spotlight.

Ventura
:
But that’s for the future. Tonight, the winner is Sting... and I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t get the same reward that I promised to Austin.

Dangerously:
What?!?

The crowd erupted as the import of Ventura’s words sunk in, before the Commissioner confirmed it.

Ventura
:
So at Clash Of The Champions XXI it will be Sting versus Rick Rude – for the WCW World Title!

Dangerously:
No!

The crowd’s cheers boomed through the arena as Sting celebrated atop the turnbuckles, moving around the ring to salute all four corners as Dangerously continued to object on commentary and as Rick Rude stood at the top of the aisle, fury written across his face, glaring at Sting from a safe distance.

Ross:
Well, if looks could kill...

Dangerously:
It won’t be looks at the Clash, Ross. Rick Rude beat Sting once, and he’ll do it again!

Rude turned to walk away, but...

IeAWhUB.jpg

...stopped in his tracks at the sight of the man who’d emerged from backstage and now stood in his way. Rude backed several steps down the aisle, and for the first time the other man looked away from him...

...to Sting, who was watching the confrontation from atop a ring post.

Ross:
He may have a match with the Diamond Studd at the Clash, but it’s clear he’ll be following the World title match
very
closely!

Dangerously:
He’ll never get a shot so long as Rick Rude is champion, you hear me? Never!

Ross:
With respect, Paul, it may not be your decision to make for much longer!

WCW Hotline Show Notes

6rptIW0.jpg

Dustin Rhodes had a very busy night this Saturday, competing twice to defend his Television title and also try and advance his team with Barry Windham into the NWA tag title tournament semi-finals! To get there, the big Texans had to overcome the Lightning Express, no small task when the smaller team had the speed advantage even before Rhodes’ fatigue was factored in!

The Thrillseekers and Diamond Exchange have crossed paths several times over recent months, and it’s fair to say that they don’t like each other. But things may be heating up still further as the match between Lance Storm and the Diamond Studd descended into chaos with Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, Vinnie Vegas and eventually even Ric Flair joining in the fray!

It was a busy night for Vinnie Vegas too, even if he wasn’t officially scheduled for the show! Before Bret Hart faced Don Harris he’d said that he knew to be cautious about the Diamond Exchange ahead of his match with Vegas at the Clash. However, the appearance of Vegas during the match still caused Hart some distraction, even if Vegas just strolled down the aisle and stood, hands in pockets, outside the ring. The big man watched from behind his sunglasses as Hart tackled the One Percenter, eventually coming out on top with a Scorpion Deathlock to force the submission. Vegas grinned as he backed away, leaving Hart looking suspiciously after him.

Scott Steiner’s hatred of the Dangerous Alliance led him to seek out Randy Savage as a partner, and when faced with Arn Anderson and the Calgary Connection Steiner pulled yet another ace from his sleeve as Ricky Steamboat returned to action in this six man match. These six men have quite the history, and the fans were desperate to see the Alliance taken down a peg or two, but had to settle for a wild brawl in which all six men shone, before events got so heated that the official had no choice but to call things to a halt – officially at least, as the fighting continued until security could intervene!

Has Cactus Jack aligned himself with Harley Race and his stable of heavy hitters? The six-time World champion certainly seemed to imply as much – and Cactus is now cleared to fight, as Nikita Koloff found out to his bloody cost!

Dustin Rhodes opened the night in action against Thomas Rich as Rich attempted to Beat The Champ. The York Foundation man used all of his experience to try and keep Rhodes down, but the young Texan threw everything he had at Rich, and ended up scoring the win with a Running Bulldog for the successful defence.

Afterwards, Rich looked furious with himself – fury that quickly shifted to Alexandra York as she tried to point out how he’d misapplied her guidance on her laptop. Dashing it to the mat, he towered over the diminutive brunette, and ranted at her before Terence Taylor sprinted down the aisle and dove into the ring, backing Rich away from York... before Rich lashed out with a right hand and dropped Taylor to the mat! Standing over Taylor, Rich pointed down at him, yelling at him to get out of his face – or meet him in the ring. Taylor climbed to his feet and said he’d be more than happy to, and why didn’t they do just that at the Clash!

The Young Pistols have big targets in mind – the Calgary Connection! Are Smothers and Armstrong ready, not just for the Connection, but also the rest of the Dangerous Alliance!

Now yeah, you got another match to fit in there, and I’m hoping you’ll have time to recover, but if not then I’ll have to go it alone in the final until you’ve got your breath back. Dustin Rhodes emerged triumphant from his latest defence of the Television title, easing past York Foundation member Robert Gibson. His Clash opponent had a very different night, however – first he started fighting against Chris Jericho, but the intervention of first Lance Storm and Vinnie Vegas, and then Ric Flair and the Diamond Studd, saw their match expand to a tag contest, and then a six man bout! The Diamond Exchange lost the match in the end when Diamond Dallas Page took it on himself to get involved, hitting a Diamond Cutter on Storm and forcing Flair and his clients into retreat rather than tackle four-on-three odds – a sensible move, for sure, and who knows about overwhelming odds better than the former Horseman?</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Vegas has his own match at the Clash, facing the Hitman Bret Hart in singles competition. Hart faced one-half of the One Percenters here, tackling Don Harris again after their match on Saturday night. Harris put up a solid fight again here, but Hart showed off his excellence of execution, bringing the big man down to the mat and forcing a submission with his Scorpion Deathlock.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The Young Pistols have been in the hunt for a United States tag title shot for a while now, and did their case no harm in singles action against the Calgary Connection. Granted they lost both matches, but still! Their performance levels were tremendous, and it’s only thanks to the intervention of Paul E. Dangerously and Madusa that Owen Hart and Brian Pillman came out on top in their matches.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

<p>WCW Clash Of The Champions XXI</p><p>

Sting vs. <strong>Rick Rude</strong> © – WCW World Heavyweight Title</p><p>

<em>I don't see Rude dropping the strap just yet, not even to Sting.....although another former Blade Runner might have a chance, and I don't mean Rick Deckard</em></p><p> </p><p>

NWA Tag Title Tournament – Semi-final 1: <strong>Windham & Rhodes</strong> vs. The Calgary Connection</p><p>

NWA Tag Title Tournament – Semi-final 2: Scott Steiner and Randy Savage vs. <strong>Arn Anderson and Steve Austin</strong></p><p>

NWA Tag Title Tournament – Final: Winners of semi-final 1 vs. <strong>Winners of semi-final 2</strong></p><p>

<em>I originally had the Calgary Connection pegged to win this whole thing, but Main Event changed my mind (for reasons I'll explain later:p) so I'm going with Arn and Austin.....Bret is going to have his eye on gold before long and that US title must look pretty appealingly....plus Austin deserves a longer title reign than he's recently had</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Terence Taylor</strong> vs. Thomas Rich</p><p>

<em>I just don't like Tommy Rich......I don't like Terry Taylor either, but for some reason I never minded Terrence</em></p><p> </p><p>

Beat The Champ: <strong>Dustin Rhodes</strong> © vs. Shawn Michaels – WCW Television Title</p><p>

<em>I originally had Michaels pegged to win this....but then there was that promo on Main Event and it made me think that a gruelling win for Dustin here and a subsequent loss in the tag title tournament could be the perfect catalyst for a Windham heel turn....despite what he said on Main Event</em></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Ultimate Warrior</strong> vs. The Diamond Studd</p><p>

<em>There is NO way that the Warrior will put Studd over, on this astral plane or any other</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Bret Hart</strong> vs. Vinnie Vegas</p><p>

<em>Bret has been on a roll since his arrival, and while he obviously won't be undefeated forever, I don't think it's going to be Vinnie V that hands him his first loss</em></p><p> </p><p>

Nikita Koloff vs. <strong>Cactus Jack</strong></p><p>

<em>If Cactus is aligned with Race, Nikita could be in for a long night</em></p>

<p>Sting vs. <strong>Rick Rude</strong> © – WCW World Heavyweight Title</p><p>

<strong>I don't see Rude losing the title which means we could have some sort of Dusty finish here if Dusty were still on the booking team. Since he is not I will say Rude gets by with some help from the DA</strong></p><p> </p><p>

NWA Tag Title Tournament – Semi-final 1: Windham & Rhodes vs. <strong>The Calgary Connection</strong></p><p>

<strong>The Calgary Boys have been clicking, so I am going to say they make the finals over the team of Barry and Dustin.</strong></p><p> </p><p>

NWA Tag Title Tournament – Semi-final 2: <strong>Scott Steiner and Randy Savage</strong> vs. Arn Anderson and Steve Austin</p><p>

<strong>Kills me to pick against Arn but I think Steiner and Savage make it to the finals.</strong></p><p> </p><p>

NWA Tag Title Tournament – Final: Winners of semi-final 1 vs. Winners of semi-final 2- <em>So I have Steiner and Savage vs </em><em><strong>The Calgary Connection</strong></em></p><p>

<strong>Savage and Steiner would be a good feud potentially and they haven't had much time to gel but have gotten this far. I think your best tag team right now is Owen and Pillman so I say they win this and either give up the US belts or retire them</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Terence Taylor</strong> vs. Thomas Rich</p><p>

<strong>Miss York makes the difference</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Beat The Champ: Dustin Rhodes © vs. <strong>Shawn Michaels</strong> – WCW Television Title</p><p>

<strong>Since his buddies both lost I do not see the Diamond Exchange going 0-3 at the Clash. This also could play into the Tag Team title situation as well</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Ultimate Warrior</strong> vs. The Diamond Studd</p><p>

<strong>I hate picking this match because I would much rather have Hall beat Warrior, but since it is Diamond Studd against Warrior, I'll have to take Warrior</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Bret Hart</strong> vs. Vinnie Vegas</p><p>

<strong>Bret is working up the ladder in WCW and big Vin man is a good step at this point.</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Nikita Koloff</strong> vs. Cactus Jack</p><p>

<strong>Nikita has kind of fallen off a bit since his world title loss to Rude. Cactus has been interesting to follow and I kind of want to pick him here, but I am not sure he is aligned with Race. World Championship Wrestling presents: Clash Of The Champions XXI

Thursday, Week 3, April 1992

Your announcers: Jim Ross and Paul E. Dangerously

Ring announcer: Gary Michael Cappetta

Backstage: Tony Schiavone, Trisa Hayes, Magnum T.A. and Eric Bischoff

The twenty-first Clash Of The Champions opened with gold on the line as Dustin Rhodes took on the latest competitor to try and Beat The Champ, the Rough Diamond, Shawn Michaels. Michaels has made a big splash since arriving in WCW six weeks ago, and entered the match with the opportunity to add to his share of the Six Man titles. Rhodes has improved in leaps and bounds since his first days in WCW, but even so he faced the prospect of a potential three matches tonight, and the thought seemed to be weighing on his mind. Coupled with the Diamond Mine sauntering down the ramp – albeit stopping short when confronted with a chair-toting Barry Windham – and Rhodes payed the price for his split focus, falling victim to a Teardrop Suplex to give Michaels his first singles gold in WCW, and make him a double champion double-quick time!

The Diamond Studd stuck around after the celebrations to face possibly the biggest challenge of his career. The self-proclaimed Ultimate Warrior stormed down the aisle and into the ring, decking Studd with a huge clothesline before the bell rang – a move that earned him some grudging respect from Paul E. Dangerously on commentary. Studd regrouped on the outside with Diamond Dallas Page and Kimberly, but when he re-entered the ring he faired little better, being hammered once, twice, three times with clotheslines before Warrior levelled him once more with a flying shoulderblock. Studd was left reeling, and while he managed to stagger upright, he was too stunned to resist as Warrior lifted him overhead with a military press drop, following up with a Running Splash to secure a win and a full-time contract on his WCW debut!

Dangerously:
Yeah, fine, he’s strong – but strong’s not enough!

Terence Taylor and Thomas Rich were never friends while allied in the York Foundation, but at least pulled in the same direction. That appears to be in the past – as does Rich’s place in the Foundation, as York pointedly entered at Taylor’s side for this clash between the pair. Rich was a success long before he joined the Foundation, however; He still holds the record as the youngest ever World champion! Rich and Taylor showed their familiarity with each other from months as teammates as they battled, but Rich had an odd ace up his sleeve as he used York
against
Taylor. Sliding out of the ring to menace York, Rich lured Taylor from between the ropes as well, and drove him head-first into a ring post. Back in the ring, Rich took advantage of his weakened opponent with a roll up and a handful of tights to keep Taylor down for three, and possibly take some momentum with his as he leaves the York Foundation behind him!

The first semi-final in the NWA tag title tournament saw Dustin Rhodes brought back into action as he sided with Barry Windham against the Calgary Connection, who were accompanied by Madusa, dressed for business in a keikogi. The reigning US tag champions have been in outstanding form of late, and their recent schedule has been kinder than Rhodes’ due to the different demands placed on the TV champion. Accordingly, Windham took the lead in this match, Rhodes only tagging in to give his partner a break. Windham’s intentions were good, but he struggled as the match progressed, not least because Pillman and Hart showed a clear willingness to push the referee’s five count to its limit. Rhodes finally burst into the ring and levelled Pillman with a leaping clothesline before catching Hart with an atomic drop. The referee ushered Rhodes back out and with his back turned, Madusa took the opportunity to smash Windham in the face with one of the title belts. She looked pleased with her actions even as the bell rang, the referee having turned just in time to see the blatantly illegal act.

Ross:
Covert operations, huh?

Dangerously:
That’s right, Ross.

Madusa still seemed pleased as Rhodes helped Windham backstage, and the two teams were replaced with Steve Austin, Arn Anderson and the WCW World tag team champions Scott Steiner and Randy Savage. The two teams looked more-or-less equal on paper, with Savage and Anderson being veterans teaming with younger partners, and Steiner and Anderson having long experience in tag teams while their partners have been predominantly singles competitors. However, Steiner has unresolved issues with Austin that unbalanced how his team worked, trying to get at his brother’s attacker even when it cost his team momentum. Guided by Anderson and Madusa, the Dangerous Alliance pairing made free with Steiner’s unfocused approach, working him over as he repeatedly tagged in even when Savage was in control if it meant getting at Austin. While Savage did his best to keep the fight out of his team’s corner as much as possible, that left him open to the Alliance’s double-teaming tactics, and if not as smooth as the Calgary Connection, Austin and Anderson are certainly showing signs of gelling well. Anderson and Austin made the most of their advantage, and Steiner seemed to realise that his approach was costing his team, but by then it was too late and a weary Savage was left exposed to the Alliance pairing as Anderson laid him out with a DDT, Austin stopping Steiner from breaking up the pin as the Dangerous Alliance booked its spot in the final.

Dangerously:
Do you see now, Ross?

Ross:
I see that Dustin Rhodes has already fought two matches tonight, and Barry Windham will go into the final having had his bell rung, yeah.

Dangerously:
You see?
Covert operations.

Ross:
And how did the Calgary Connection feel about giving up their shot?

Dangerously:
They already have titles, Ross, and they’ll share in the spoils of our success.

As Nikita Koloff made his entrance for his match, it was impossible to miss the thick bandage around his head, the clear evidence of Cactus Jack’s recent assault on the former World champion. Despite the advice of Ron Simmons earlier in the show, Koloff was clearly determined to get his hands on the wildman from Truth Or Consequences.

Dangerously:
There’s a bullseye.

Ross:
I’m surprised that Commissioner Ventura is allowing this match to go ahead.

Dangerously:
I heard that Koloff got pretty heated about this match being put off. He’s got revenge on his mind, and really, do you think Cactus Jack would want the match postponed? Do you think he’d take that lightly?

Ross:
Point taken.

Koloff awaited Cactus’ arrival impatiently. As the wildman made his way down the ramp he paused, and beckoned Koloff to the outside of the ring. He complied immediately, charging at his opponent, the pair engaging in wild brawling that ranged along the ramp and around the ring. Cactus charged at Koloff who backdropped him over the guardrail and into the crowd. Climbing onto the guardrail, Koloff leapt onto Cactus, driving him into a row of chairs and sending fans scattering before them. Staying atop Cactus, Koloff rained in punches on his opponent, trying to knock him cold. But Cactus is possibly the most resilient of all WCW competitors and is unlikely to be stopped even by Koloff’s punches. Throwing the former World champion off, Cactus snatched up one of the fallen chairs and took a swing at him. Koloff ducked and stopped Cactus in his tracks with a swift uppercut between his legs, but even then Cactus held onto the chair and managed to swat Koloff aside with it as he stumbled sideways. The referee, having grown increasingly uneasy as the brawl continued, stepped in between the pair and frantically summoned help, which arrived in the form of a corps of security guards who joined the official in separating Koloff and Cactus – both of whom seemed willing and ready to resume hostilities.

Ross:
Well, I don’t know if you can call that a match, but whatever it is, it’s finished.

Dangerously:
I’d have let them fight. Maybe they’d take each other out and make the place safer for the rest of us.

Ross:
Especially the Dangerous Alliance.

Dangerously:
You’re catching on, Ross.

Bret Hart entered for his match on his own, pausing to hand off his sunglasses to a young fan in the front row. Vinnie Vegas, for his part, was accompanied by Diamond Dallas Page... and Kimberly... and Shawn Michaels, who was carrying both of his title belts. Vegas paused by a fan and held out his own sunglasses, before yanking them away at the last second with a smirk as Page and Michaels laughed.

Ross:
Nice guy.

Dangerously:
Nice guys finish last.

Vegas towered over Hart and kept smirking as he looked down at him. Hart looked unruffled, but the first punch from Vegas dropped him to the mat and left him visibly shaken at the big man’s strength. Rallying quickly, Hart targeted Vegas’ legs to try and chop him down to size. The Hitman tried to fight from behind as much as possible, negating Vegas’ reach advantage, but Vegas showed impressive speed in keeping Vegas in front of him, if frustratingly out of reach. For Hart, stick-and-move was the strategy. For Vegas, ground-and-pound. Neither was quite able to impose themselves on the other, but Hart scored big with a dropkick to Vegas’ knee that left the big man hobbling. Even so, Vegas was still able to showcase his incredible strength, snatching Hart when he strayed too close and hurling him across the ring and into the turnbuckles. Limping across the ring, Vegas planted one big boot in Hart’s throat and choked him against the turnbuckles, breaking on the referee’s count before immediately reapplying the choke. On the second break, however, his attention was diverted by Ric Flair walking down the aisle, backed up by Chris Jericho and Lance Storm. The trio got into a shouting match with Page and Michaels as Vegas watched on from inside the ring. Taking advantage of the distraction, Hart climbed up onto the turnbuckles and jumped onto Vegas’s shoulders, rolling forward into a cradle and keeping Vegas’ shoulders down for three before the big man could kick out.

Ross:
Hart wins!

Dangerously:
Incredible! But you have to give the assist to Flair and the Thrillseekers!

Indeed, Page was attempting to register this point with the official as Vegas looked furious over his abrupt defeat. Hart watched on in bemusement, and then mounting anger of his own as he listened to Page and realised that Flair and the Thrillseekers’ presence at ringside had influenced the outcome of the match. Hart snatched a microphone and leaned over the top rope, pointing at Flair.

Hart:
You had no business coming out here, Flair! This was my match, my chance to see how good Vinnie Vegas is – not your chance to come out here and complain about your clients not being able to beat the Diamond Mine!

Flair, who to that point had looked pretty pleased with himself, scowled at Hart’s words.

Hart:
If you don’t like what I have to say, Nature Boy, get in the ring and deal with your business the way I do – the way you used to!

Hart stalked up the aisle, his expression warning anyone against getting in his way. Flair looked as angry as Hart as Hart passed him, while Jericho and Storm looked unsure about what to say to their manager.

The final of the NWA tag title tournament was next, and the gleaming golden belts were arrayed on a podium at ringside awaiting the victors. While Anderson and Austin had been through a gruelling match against Steiner and Savage, Dustin Rhodes had two matches under his belt – and Barry Windham was sporting a sizable bruise from the impact of the title belt wielded by Madusa. They seemed to be easy pickings for their opponents, but even so Anderson and Austin didn’t let complacency bite. Fighting hard, and working as a team, Anderson and Austin added further to Rhodes and Windham’s woes. Still, Dusty Rhodes and Blackjack Mulligan didn’t raise quitters for sons, and the second-generation stars dug deep, with a huge lariat from Windham sending Austin crashing to the outside. With Anderson isolated, Rhodes and Windham were able to make up ground on their opponents, leaving Anderson as the one struggling as Austin finally made it back onto the apron. The sides seemed to have been evened up, leaving the match in the balance and Austin champing at the bit to get into the ring. He got his chance when Madusa intervened in the match, sliding into the ring and standing between Rhodes and Anderson. Rhodes had to pull up short to avoid hitting her, and that gave Anderson the chance to scramble clear and make the tag. The official allowed the tag, but ordered Madusa out of the ring and to the back. She left grudgingly, dragging out her departure as Austin went low on Rhodes, doubling him over and leaving him vulnerable to an Anderson DDT as Austin blocked off Windham. When the referee turned around, Austin was covering Rhodes as Anderson held Windham in the corner. Three seconds later, and the NWA had new tag team champions!

Dangerously:
Yes! Covert, overt, whatever – the Dangerous Alliance holds
all
the gold!

Ross:
I suppose I have to congratulate you, Paul, but you know that Windham and Rhodes will want a rematch.

In the ring, Anderson and Austin accepted their new title belts and lifted them overhead. They were joined in the ring by Madusa, holding Anderson’s United States title belt and her own NWA Women’s title, and before long Owen Hart, Brian Pillman and Rick Rude all joined the party, each with their own title belts, and the group stood with all their gold on display.

Dangerously:
Let them come. We have so much gold, we need to double up. Anyone who wants to come at us,
let them come!

Sting vs. Rick Rude ©

Dangerously:
Get ready, Ross. This is going to be the end of Sting. Rick Rude beat him before, and he’ll do it again! This is WCW’s last hope of stopping the domination of the Dangerous Alliance – who else is there to stand against us?

Ross:
Well, how about the Ultimate Warrior?

Dangerously:
That was a rhetorical question!

Sting and Rick Rude, perhaps the two most complete and powerful athletes in WCW, squared up as the bell rang and entered into a test of strength. The duo were inseparable, neither able to force the other back even so much as a step. Eventually Rude broke the stalemate with a stiff forearm that caught Sting under the jaw, allowing him to go to work on the challenger’s core.

Dangerously:
You see the strategy, Ross? Take away Sting’s core, you take away the Scorpion Deathlock
and
the Stinger Splash.

Ross:
I see it, Paul, but you have to admit that Sting’s as strong in his core as anywhere – can even Rude break him down?

Rude gave it his best shot, hammering Sting with backbreakers and suplexes before clamping on an abdominal stretch, even positioning himself so that Madusa could add leverage from the outside. When the referee spotted this, he forced the break by kicking Rude’s arm, and in his surprise the World champion got hiptossed to the mat. Sting grimaced a little, but set to work on Rude’s right arm, which Ross noted would weaken his punches and potentially take away the Rude Awakening.

Champion and challenger continued to hammer one another, each focusing on weakening the other’s greatest strength. The two ended up on their knees in the centre of the ring, trading punches wearily, Sting getting marginally the better of it with his unhurt arms, knocking Rude to the mat. Clambering to his feet, Sting tried to apply the Scorpion Deathlock, but as he sat back on the hold his grip failed and instead he fell back to the mat, clutching at his stomach.

Dangerously:
Champion’s advantage. Rude can let this go to a draw, and Sting gets
nothing
.

Sting pulled himself into a corner and used the ropes to stand up. Still clutching at his gut, he was breathing heavily and clearly needed time to regroup rather than pressing his advantage on Rude. Rude, for his part, crawled over to Madusa for consolation and advice. As Sting forced himself out of the corner, Rude pushed himself upright and met his opponent with a left jab, and kept Sting at bay with a series of left hands that the challenger struggled to get his hands up to block.

As Sting was forced backwards, Rude taunted him with a pose, but flexing his biceps clearly caused pain for the champion, who was left shaking his arm to try and get some feeling back into it. Taking advantage of the moment, Sting met him with a big dropkick. Although the move clearly hurt Sting, it landed Rude in the corner, and Sting followed in with a Stinger Splash at – at best – half speed. Rude crashed to the mat as Sting hung onto the ropes to keep himself upright. With Rude struggling on the mat Sting grabbed his legs once more and laced his through them, turning Rude over into the Scorpion Deathlock, and this time holding it as he sat back, if not as deep as usual, then deep enough for Rude to feel it as he yelled in pain, fingers clawing at the mat as the crowd roared in support of the challenger...

...until Madusa entered the ring, lined up on Sting, and kicked him full in the face, breaking the hold and dropping him to the mat as the referee called for the bell due to outside interference.

Ross:
What??

Dangerously:
Worth every penny, Ross!

Winner: Sting (A)

Os0Akb7.jpg

BiyIlky.jpglcGavxb.jpg8pRFZsl.jpg

As Sting tried to get to his feet, he was jumped on from behind by Austin and Anderson, the new NWA tag champions driving Sting into the mat and keeping him down with punches and kicks.

But not far behind the new champions were Ricky Steamboat and Scott Steiner, charging to Sting’s rescue, as in their wake the Calgary Connection spilled onto the ramp, entangled in a brawl with Dustin Rhodes, Barry Windham and Randy Savage. Madusa rushed up the aisle to help the United States champions, jumping onto Windham’s back and applying a sleeper hold as Rude got to his feet and, pulling out a pair of brass knuckles from his trunks, crashed his left hand into Steiner’s jaw.

Ross:
Where did he- Oh, let me guess, Madusa.

Dangerously:
Covert operations, Ross.

Ventura
:
That’s enough!

myJ9THe.jpg

Commissioner Ventura strode out onto the ramp, the corps of security guards once more called into action as they moved to intercept the Dangerous Alliance and their rivals.

Ventura
:
Get in between them, split them apart, stop them killing each other.

The guards were, just about, able to separate the twelve fighters, with Madusa having to be pried off Windham, and three guards having to stop Sting from getting back at Rude, who seemed happy enough to be backed into a corner by two guards, World title clasped to his chest.

Ventura
:
Every show –
every
show – some combination of you get into a fight and need to be separated. You beat each other up, you cost each other matches, and nothing gets settled! You’re wasting time, and more importantly, you’re costing this company money!

Ventura
:
That’s got to stop, so here’s the deal: One month from tonight, we’re going to make sure we get a definite finish. The five members of the Dangerous Alliance – with apologies to Madusa – are going into the ring with a team led by Sting.
Two
rings, in fact – and they’re going to be surrounded by a steel cage.

The crowd erupted as they caught on to Ventura’s meaning.

Ventura
:
One month from tonight... it’s War Games!

Dangerously:
No!

Ross:
Oh my!

Ventura
:
Ten of you, one match, and you go until you can’t go any more!

At Ventura’s pronouncement the rivals glared at one another, the guards keeping them apart but doing nothing to quench the hatred that has grown up between the two sides.

Dangerously:
This is terrible, terrible! So much talent inside War Games. What if someone gets hurt? This could cost us millions!

Ross:
I don’t think that’s something Jesse Ventura cares about very much, Paul.

Dangerously:
Well he should! Look at us! The World champion, the United States champion, the United States tag team champions, the NWA tag team champions, the NWA Women’s champion... Who else should Jesse Ventura care about, Ross?

Ross:
I’m looking at six people right now, for a start! Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for welcoming us into your homes tonight. We’ve seen the crowning of new NWA tag team champions and not just one but
two
dual titlists tonight. I know that a lot of people will be disappointed with how the main event panned out, but I can assure you that in four weeks’ time we’ll be back with a match that
guarantees
a definitive outcome. At WrestleWar ’92, it’s going to be War Games!

OOC: Exposure helps. Dustin Rhodes fought in three matches tonight, lost twice and won the other when his partner got the DQ fall, and was ‘greatly overused’. Despite that, he now autopushes to upper midcard, and has gone from about a D+ average across the States at the start of the month to a C average. 10 matches in 7 shows will help with that, and his two tag matches scored B+ ratings. While the opponents help, that’s 2 of his top 3 matches so far, the other being an A-rated tag match with Austin, Rude and Sting that barely counts; I could have an A-rated tag match with those three right now. It’s like Johnny Ace’s 5* matches when Williams, Misawa and Kobashi/Akiyama were the others involved.

Steve Austin has also solidified his position in the main event this month, hitting A overness in the Mid Atlantic and B+ nationwide. He’s now #5 on my Franchise Players list, behind Sting, Flair, Rude and Savage.

I’d like to say that all of these popularity and skill gains are helping us regain the popularity we lost in dropping to Cult back in July. Alas, the wrestling industry hit rock bottom in the US earlier this month, so we’ve been essentially static, gaining 1% or less in most US regions. If the business picks up steam quickly, that would be a benefit and we could hit National (we’re comfortable in 4 US regions, adequate in 2 and need to raise our popularity in the Mid West and North West... except the US economy has just topped out, so it seems they’ll be acting like a set of scales for the foreseeable future, with WCW in the middle, possibly going nowhere!

He designed a lot of those AJPW finishes that people go crazy about. <p> </p><p> Don't worry about Cult if you're raking it in, I think. Keep yourself locked at Cult for six month while the economy and industry inches back up, IMO. That said, does anyone think the industry should respond more to the industry leaders and how well they're doing in terms of quality output? </p><p> </p><p> Also, Madusa was everywhere tonight with the Dangerous Alliance. When is Ventura bringing in Luna Vachon to deal with that troublemaker?!?!</p>

Sting and Barry Windham vs. Arn Anderson and Steve Austin © – NWA Tag Team Titles

But they won't win the Titles.....DQ, Count-Out maybe....the Alliance will have something up their sleeve

Beat The Champ: The Patriot vs. Shawn Michaels © – WCW Television Title

I don't think so Mr. Wilkes

Ricky Steamboat and Dustin Rhodes vs. The Calgary Connection – non-title

Non-Title or not, Dustin has got to be pretty beat up

Scott Steiner and Randy Savage vs. Loud And Proud

Bret Hart vs. The Diamond Studd

Ric Flair and the Thrilseekers vs. The York Foundation

Flair and his protégées are on a collision course with the Diamond boys

Very good Clash......and War Games should be awesome......and no pressure or anything, but Wrestlewar 92 was the absolute mutts nuts, they're some big shoes to fill :p
