War Games was great.....and more than lived up to its 1992 real life counterpart....I’m chuffed to see Vader too, he was an absolute monster around now.</p><p> </p><p>

As for Rick being in the WWF, I wouldn’t have had a clue back in 1992.....I didn’t have access to the WWF here in jolly old England, just WCW......worldwide I believe at either 1am Saturday morning on ITV or Saturday afternoon, I forget what slot it was in at this time, I wouldn’t have found out Steiner jumped until WM7 was available at the local video shop</p>

War Games was great as expected, and I think you'll be getting scotty over as a singles guy sooner or later. The big stand out is of course VADER. Somehow forgot about him in the mist of this WWF/WCW drama. To the moon with him!</p>

One issue with having the TV title booked on every show is that the challengers do tend to get cycled through pretty quickly. <em>If</em> the champion has a long reign, of course. If the champion loses their first or second defence then you could have a lengthy run of no challenger being repeated - just a <em>lot</em> of champions...</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="crackerjack" data-cite="crackerjack" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="42193" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><p> War Games was great as expected, and I think you'll be getting scotty over as a singles guy sooner or later. Hard to book a monster who can lose and still be a monster afterwards (interestingly, I think WWE have managed it with Braun, but it helps that the crowd are hot for him) but Vader managed it. He was an absolute beast from his debut until Hogan arrived, at which point he got sidelined and, i suspect, age and wear began to take its toll. Certainly by the time he moved to WWF in 1996 he wasn't the force he was in 1992.</p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="to4sty" data-cite="to4sty" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="42193" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div> As for Rick being in the WWF, I wouldn’t have had a clue back in 1992.....I didn’t have access to the WWF here in jolly old England, just WCW......worldwide I believe at either 1am Saturday morning on ITV or Saturday afternoon, I forget what slot it was in at this time, I wouldn’t have found out Steiner jumped until WM7 was available at the local video shop</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> That's a good point too - WCW does have a worldwide audience (not necessarily on great channels, but...) and not everyone watches WWF. I was subscribed to WWF Magazine back then and read the Apter mags when I could get my hands on them, but my main exposure to wrestling was weekly episodes of WCW Worldwide - a big reason for this diary existing was my exposure to 1991-1993 WCW, and I'm pleased to see that WWE Network has recently uploaded a big chunk of the 1992 episodes of Saturday Night to the Network.</p><p> </p><p> Granted, it's nothing like my version of Saturday Night, but still - Windham/Austin 2/3 falls for the TV title? Works for me.</p>

I’m sure all of you who could scrabble together grandma’s benefit cheques had the good sense to order WrestleWar from your pay-per-view provider, and if not, you can order the encore presentation now. ...as the battered and stitched-up Sting, Dustin Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat, Randy Savage and Scott Steiner charged down the aisle to help their young friend, the Alliance met their charge gleefully, Rude burying his World title belt in the stomach of the slower-than-usual Sting and Anderson tossing his tag title belt to Pillman to dash against the side of Savage’s skull, dropping him to the floor. Steiner was targeted by Hart and Austin, as Steamboat and Anderson tore into one another, leaving Rude to beckon Rhodes into the ring. Dustin Rhodes had his first World title shot against Rick Rude in the main event, and got plenty of advice from his friends beforehand – with Sting recommending he avoid getting smashed in the face with the World title! In the ring, Rhodes put forth his best effort but his youth and lack of experience betrayed him as he allowed himself to be distracted by Madusa at a crucial point in the match, giving Rude the upper hand and, shortly afterwards, allowing him to score with a Rude Awakening on the Natural to pick up the win and crown a great night for the Dangerous Alliance...</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

...which prompted the appearance of Jesse Ventura for the second time in the night, the Commissioner barely able to contain himself as he marched down the aisle and climbed into the ring, interrupting Rude’s gloating with Madusa and Paul E.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

“Well done, but now you need a challenger for the Clash. I figure that a four corners match next week between Sting, Steamboat, Steiner and Savage should find you the right man – and whoever you end up facing, Rude, any and all members of the Dangerous Alliance will be banned from ringside!”</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Could Ricky Steamboat and Arn Anderson have put on an even better match if they weren’t both still suffering from War Games? Perhaps, but even so their United States title match was a tremendous performance by both men! Steamboat pushed Anderson to the limit in his efforts to regain the title he’s held multiple times before, but the Enforcer dug deep, punishing Steamboat with a DDT before adding emphasis with a Spinning Spinebuster for the pin!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Big Van Vader debuted in grand style at WrestleWar ’92, devastating the Ultimate Warrior after Warrior defeated Mr Hughes. Junkyard Dog posed a fresh challenge to the new arrival on his return from injury, but even the crowd favourite was no match for Vader, who steamrollered his opponent and finished him with a Vader Bomb! Ultimate Warrior’s condition is reported as pretty serious – when will he able to return to action?</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Bret Hart accepted the challenge to a submission match from Tim Horner of the Lightning Express. The challenger did his best to wear down the new Television champion, but Hart may be as good as any technical wrestler in the business, and brought Horner to the mat with his Scorpion Deathlock variant dubbed the Sharpshooter to get the victory!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Nikita Koloff was confronted by Cactus Jack at WrestleWar ’92, but shrugged off the wildman’s oblique warning. “What can one man do to the Post Soviet Superstar? The Diamond Exchange had some big words for the tag champions ahead of their title match, especially after Savage had his bell rung by the Dangerous Alliance earlier in the show. The match was fiercely contested, with Steiner having to do much of his team’s work even having suffered so much in War Games himself, and was just able to take down Michaels with the devastating Frankensteiner...</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Hey man, I'm not saying try this out in a darkmatch sometime, but...

Check and see if Ric Flair and the Ultimate Warrior have any chemistry in a tag team match.

Does Warrior work house shows?

Well, he can't be any worse than "Pretty" Paul Roma, I mean if you're looking for a fourth man.

</p></div><p></p><p>

</p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">The scene shifted to a fancy restaurant, where well-dressed socialites and the well-off had gathered to drink cocktails and eat well. A maitre’d reigned over proceedings at the door, and he shimmied forward to greet the latest arrivals – Ric Flair, Lance Storm and Chris Jericho, the last two of whom looked awkward in mismatched sports coats and trousers, holding their Six Man title belts like shields before them as they looked around the room. The diners and drinkers, meanwhile, had turned to look in their direction, and the maitre’d looked as though he were about to object to their presence.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

But front and centre, title belt secured around his waist, charcoal grey suit hanging perfectly on his frame, thousand dollar sunglasses over a million dollar smile, gleaming Rolex and sparkling diamond tiepin catching the light just so, accepting the crowd’s attention and perfectly at home in the environment, was Ric Flair.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Some time later, and Flair was clearly still in his element holding court about the team’s victory over the Diamond Exchange as the women hung on his every word. Storm was slumped in his chair, apparently unable to keep pace with Flair and the rate at which he had been downing drinks. Jericho, for his part, was swaying in his chair, glassy-eyed.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Jericho toppled sideways out of his chair, unheeded by Flair and the women, who were all now draped with the Six Man title belts. Flair beamed still more widely.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="O3cT4q4.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/O3cT4q4.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

In the night’s main event, the Calgary Connection stepped up to the challenge of the Patriots, who had the Phoenix crowd firmly behind them. The Alliance duo showed off their innate understanding – honed in the famed Dungeon, perhaps – as they marched to victory with their Ice Cold In Alberta finisher, Todd Champion the unlucky recipient.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Dustin Rhodes made short work of youngster Jimmy Jannetty after coming up short against Rick Rude last week; The victory didn’t overly impress Steve Austin, who sat in on commentary for the match.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Throughout the night, Randy Savage, Sting, Ricky Steamboat and Scott Steiner weighed in on their four corners match next Saturday – all agreed that friendships and partnerships would have to be set aside for the match, which comes with the promise of a World title shot for the winner!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Have the Young Pistols overdone their celebrations since winning their United States tag titles? The champions were given a run for their money by local duo Darryl Peterson and Mike Moran, but eventually stepped up through the gears to take the win with a Doomsday Dropkick.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The One Percenters may well be looking for a title shot soon; They stated their case with a victory over the Fabulous Malenkos – albeit one that owed a lot to the intervention of Harley Race!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Junkyard Dog could maybe have done with a little more rest after his heavy defeat at the hands of Big Van Vader last night. Certainly the big man struggled against Brad Armstrong, although Tim Horner inserting himself into the match surely didn’t help, giving Armstrong the chance to land a Russian Legsweep for the win.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The Television Title was on the line in the night’s opening match, as the Diamond Exchange’s – usually – manager Diamond Dallas Page stepped up to challenge Bret Hart in a street fight. Such a match clearly isn’t Hart’s forté, and he struggled in the early going, but as he grew into the match he showed unexpected toughness to endure the Exchange man’s beating. With Page tiring, Hart bore him to the mat with a flying clotheslines before locking in the Scorpion-like Sharpshooter to secure the win, $1,000 and move another step closer to the title shot of his choice.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Perhaps the Calgary Connection were just stirring, as they’re certainly pushing for a World tag title shot, and results like this will only help their cause knowing Commissioner Ventura: Savage and Steiner were not on the same page at all during the main event! While perhaps that’s to be expected given the stakes in play, the tag champions went after each other with all the force they could muster, showing each other as little quarter as Steamboat or Sting – and just ten days ago all four had sided together in War Games! All bonds of fellowship were forgotten as the quartet brawled in and out of the ring, Paul E. cheering on their efforts indiscriminately – any of them getting hurt was fine by him! With so much chaos to oversee, small wonder that the referee missed Hart and Pillman’s intervention as they floored Steiner with Ice Cold In Alberta while the official checked on Steamboat and Sting, who’d collided on the outside. With all three of his opponents down Savage had to take action – and he leapt from the top rope with a Macho Man Elbow on his partner to secure the win and title shot. But at what cost to his team with the man he defeated?</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Before the Calgary Connection can get at the champions, however, they have to get past Nikita Koloff and Dustin Rhodes, as the two friends of Barry Windham want revenge for their fallen comrade!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> While all the chaos was unfolding, Rude had his own challenge for the night, tackling the superb young technician Dean Malenko in an impressive outing, overpowering the tag specialist before putting him away with a Rude Awakening.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Is there a better big man wrestler in the world than Big Van Vader? We’ve been speaking to our sources, and they suggest that Harley Race has found the crown jewel for his ‘kingdom’. And any man who can put the Ultimate Warrior out of action as Vader did is someone to be feared!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Marcus Bagwell is still smarting from being attacked by the Dangerous Alliance last week, and no wonder! He promised he’d learn his lesson, and come back stronger – but he still seemed a little gunshy against Terence Taylor of the York Foundation. Taylor, of course, has all the benefit of York’s computations and was able to pick up the duke in just over eight minutes with a Piledriver on the young star.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Ric Flair and the Thrillseekers have been celebrating their recent title win – as have the Young Pistols! The two sides compared title belts and party stories backstage, but Flair wasn’t laughing later as he and Michael Hayes once again had to put up with the mockery of the Diamond Exchange after Shawn Michaels had taken down Chris Jericho – albeit with help from DDP!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Hayes had been explaining to Flair why he had wanted a Texas Bull Rope match when he challenged Bret Hart for the WCW Television title; He had a lot of experience, fighting Texas style! In the match, Hayes gave his all against Hart and at times seemed on the verge of winning. Hart wasn’t in his element, but by careful focus on Hayes’ legs he was able to wear the Freebird down and leave him lying as he touched all four corners – at the cost of a lot of welts on his back from being whipped with the rope!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> In a rarity here in WCW, we got to see a genuine WWF superstar in Tito Santana as he paired up with young competitor Jerry Lynn to take a shot at the NWA Tag Team titles. <p>On the one hand, Teddy Long has come out and said that Ric Flair was quite abusive to him and disliked him. So maybe he looks the other way for some of his prospects...</p><p> </p><p>

On the other hand, firing those three guys would thin your very strong roster at this time and maybe give Vince some fresh faces...</p><p> </p><p>

Screw it, fire them all. Let Shawn sink or swim without them.</p>

I want Lound & Proud to have a push, but both members being on the juice scuppered that.
