[CVerse 97] Awesome Max Wrestling - Life (or bust) without Trenton Evenrud

To hell with this company. I’m out of here.

He slammed the door shut and left. He’d spent hours trying to get the safe open but in a drunken rage forgot the combination.

Awesome Max Wrestling was suddenly without an owner. Trenton Evenrud had just left, leaving all the papers there. The last thing he did was sign a Belgian booker. Nobody knew him. A company going down the drain, but with a big TV Deal on C.A.N.N. in the Graveyard shift.

AMW veteran and co-owner The Rev shares his thoughts....

Honestly, the best thing that could have happened then, was Trenton leaving. Especially like this. He’d sold us, the founders, down the river. Hate is not a word I’d ever use outside the world of wrestling but Trenton…well, he was not the devil in disguise but he just wasn’t a nice person. Ask Joel, Chris, Archie and the others that invested here.

Well, it left me with the title belt and some unknown Belgian guy who had to make the best of a first show, without someone telling him what he should do.

I didn’t know anything about wrestling in 1997. Let alone comprehend it. I just signed a contract, making my dream come true. Or at least ... I thought. It seemed a nightmare in 1997."

"I just started ringing numbers…retired guys, asking who was around and why. I had a show in 5 days. Didn’t know who or what could run it. I asked several guys…one guy looked decent and answered my call. After 2 days he agreed to be my road agent. At least he knew wrestling. Little did I know about his past...

"Also, little did I know who whould end up being my boss. I just signed this contract from an apparant madman who just quit his own company."

http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx165/rikgeerts/AMW/Preston%20Lockhart_zpsdejd5pii.jpg

Preston Lockheart sighs when looking back upon this thing.

Man, thinking back about that one….early retirement, old demons still haunting me and then some shoddy company like AMW calling me? To tell you the truth, I didn’t care about AMW. I only got interested when I heard that egomaniac Evenrud had left the company. Even if it was complete chaos, they needed a road agent and they had some Belgian trying to keep this lead zeppelin afloat... and I thought … "

Well, let’s give this Awesome Max Wrestling a shot”.

http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx165/rikgeerts/AMW/The%20Count_zpso7ggkf0k.jpg

"Right, I was there, wasn't I?", The Count seemed confuded.

"When I was a ref there at the start, The Rev was the main champ. You had The Hustlers (Dodger and Turner) as tag champs. Main challengers were guys like Smack, Thor, Kovach, Tucker -who had an awful gimmick as Johnny Lawless- and and bunch of others....I never understood I got to work there with a gimmick as a ref. Oh well..."

So this new booker calls out a crisis meeting the next day. Let me say…I thought he was finished before he got started. News about Trenton leaving was not knows and a few guys had really bad vibes of being in AMW. Things looked bad.”

To his credit, he sat down with us and told us what he know. Nothing about wrestling. And that he had brought in the tainted soul of Preston Lockheart. At least he know wrestling on a good level. Lockheart didn’t say much.

The Belgian also had some ideas about some of the roster. Guys that were totally misused under Trenton. Mind you, there’s talent and gimmick and let me tell you, a big Amen on all of these guys but wrestling talent wasn’t one of their biggest gifts.

http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx165/rikgeerts/AMW/Christopher%20Ball_alt_zps0krblsv3.jpg

Well, new on the job, without an owner and lacking direction and WITH a TV show coming on…I just said what I had to say. I’m guessing some were happier than others. I promoted co-owner and NWA champ The Rev to the main event scene. Seemed only logical at the time. Rev seemed a good guy and it would have made no sense to have a title holder stuck nowhere.”

“A few other has issues…everyone should get a clean start…I thought.”

http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx165/rikgeerts/AMW/Johnny%20Boy%20Tucker_zpsqnll3eiy.jpg

Johnny Boy Tucker smiles…

Ha, the first show. That was funny. Being into drinking, I always kept tabs. I thought it was funny a guy called Whisky Jack forgot to shake my hand so I made him pay … whiskey for the whole locker room.

There was tension but with that obnoxious **** gone, it looked in better shape than before. Hey, that preacher dude even tried to teach the big young knucklehead some psychology. Like that would ever work better than a big Lariat in the face”, Tucker chuckled.

Awesome To The Max starts off with a match between Joel Kovach and Chris Gordon. Gordon, coming out looking serious, shaking hands with a few hands lands a few shots early but is no match for Kovach who looks strong and finishes off Gordon (who botched a few moves and looked winded) with the Kovach Crippler for the Submission win. Decent bout to open the show.

Joel Kovach defeated Chris Gordon in 7:43 by submission with a Kovach Krippler. (E)

http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx165/rikgeerts/AMW/Edwin%20D%20Bashford_zpszp7stcte.jpg vs http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx165/rikgeerts/AMW/Craig%20Lewis_zpsfig1bx7b.jpg

Crash Lewis starts off the match with a new disgruntled look. Plenty of chants for “Get out of here, Crash!”, and even more when he tripped himself into the ropes after an Irish whip. The youngster Bashford, sporting a snob gimmick, picks up the win, and even though the crowd should be boo-ing this, he got a few cheers.

Edwin D. Bashford defeated Crash Lewis in 5:45 by pinfall with a Pedigree. (F+)

http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx165/rikgeerts/AMW/The%20Rev_zpsb0vnpqov.jpg

The Rev steps into the ring and grabs the mic. “Brothers and Sisters, let me make this sermon simple. I’ve done all that I can do to get this belt (points to the AMW Heavyweight Title) and I will do all that I can to keep it. If God is willing, this will be for a long time.” He drops the mic and heads backstage. (E+)

The Hustlers make their way out but their opponents get heavier boos. An easy title defence…Davis took the pin after trying to make a tag to Little Bill but ended up in the wrong corner. That’s why we call him “Unlucky” Leo Davis from now on.

AMW Tag Title Match: The Hustlers © defeated Leo Davis and Little Bill Lebowski in 7:34 when Roger Dodger defeated Leo Davis by pinfall with a Hustler Drop. The Hustlers make defence number 15 of their AMW World Tag Team titles. (E)

Devorah Triton is backstage as the Hustlers returns from the ringside. They immediately stop her.

Dodger: “Hey, Dev, that’s a nice dress. Bet you look better without it.”

Turner: “Definitely Rog. Hey, mind showing us some?”

Triton: “Just leave me alone, will you?”

Turner: “Well, since you asked …. We’re not going to do that. Right, Rog?”

Dodger: “Definitely, Ern. I think she can be taught a Pump Handle Slam, or to handle a pump handle at least.”

Archangel arrives at the scene. Triton immediately retreats to him.

Archangel: “What’s going on here?”

Turner: “Just some fun. Just some fun.” (E+)

http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx165/rikgeerts/AMW/Johnny%20Boy%20Tucker_zpsqnll3eiy.jpg vs http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx165/rikgeerts/AMW/Big%20Smack%20Scott_zpsbj9srpcc.jpg

Well, this one was short and sweet. Two minutes of entertainment, despite two heels playing tricks to eachother. Both started shouting: “It’s my belt” and finally some fisticuffs. The Rev came out with his belt and Big Smack Scott threw him a cheap punch on the outside. Lawless came in and things went out of hand. Ref The Count threw the match out. Entertaining though.

Johnny Lawless drew with Big Smack Scott in 5:58 following a double disqualification. During the match we also had The Rev run in and distract Big Smack Scott. (D-)

http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx165/rikgeerts/AMW/Johnny%20Boy%20Tucker_zpsqnll3eiy.jpg & http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx165/rikgeerts/AMW/Big%20Smack%20Scott_zpsbj9srpcc.jpg & http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx165/rikgeerts/AMW/The%20Rev_zpsb0vnpqov.jpg

It’s not done after the match. Everybody seems to have calmed down till Big Smack Scott gets into Lawless face. The Rev tries to separate the two and both seem ready to turn on him. He puts up his fists and … that’s it for tonight! (D)

(General result: D- show)

Awesome Max is one of my favorite promotions of all time. I love it more than I love USPW. I wish I had someone on the forum I could go head to head with in a diary using AMW I love em so much lol. Someone needs to give you some diary competition with AMW lol Good Luck!

Edwin D. Bashford

(Glad to know I'm not the only one who uses the pedigree as his finisher. Huge fan of him.

Mighty Thor

(Once known as the Alpha Male....in an extremely old diary from 13. Either way no one is stopping him.)

Archangel

(Archangel has one of the best renders out there in the CV97. Render alone gives him the win for me lol that and he's actually talented.)

Draw

(I'm calling a draw by some form of craziness. Johnny Lawless is not gonna sit back and watch patiently. Besides who the hell does Gordon think he is being in the main event? lol)

Yes, some diary interaction. Which is always good fun.

Bold move going with Awesome Max Wrestling. I hope for your sake you got rid of the narratives that take you into mega-debt, or else this dynasty might be a short one. :p

I have. I tried running it with Trenton, which had my worst locker room elements walking out because of the toxic atmosphere. That wasn't too bad, but not good for a diary. The atmosphere is touch & go as it is.

I haven't set up and owner but rumour has it AMW might be taken over soon.

While Chris Gordon might not think so, he's actually a founding member of AMW. More importantly in terms of money, he's under a written contract and he's not a backstage problem.

"It all really went very smoothly...", Eugene Williams starts it off like it was nothing.

"I never met Trenton Evenrud, only talked to his "lawyers". They tried to sell AMW for tons of money. I walked out. I didn't hear back from them...until about an hour later. Trenton was desperate, I think. He just wanted to get rid of the company. And the company was happy to be rid of him."

"Me becoming the owner a surprise? I think it must have been to most of the guys. I never really bothered. I just hoped the investment would pay off. The Belgian booker was the only one I called. Just to tell him what I wanted to see in the future and to tell him he wouldn't be fired. I wasn't sure why. To be honest, the fact that he was dead cheap helped him."

"I got a call. Someone saying he was the new owner. With Trenton packing up, it seemed logical. He said he was going to change a few things left and right but all of our contracts were going to be withheld for now. Apparantly he was a referee and offered to be on the shows as well. That left me with some thinking to do. I already had The Count and Jonathan Taylor on the payroll for that role."

"His demands seemed reasonable to start. Not losing popularity, no debts, not hiring an active wrestler over 45...he just seemed a bit edgy about one thing: he didn't want any technical wrestlers. Something about them always being difficult guys to see when the 3-count was made. I didn't know at the time why that was...."

Mad Dog Mortimer comes out with his Lounge Lizard stuff to a significant amount of boos as the crowd just didn’t care about him. A few fakes left and right from Mortimer till Bashford flattened him with a slap right in the face. Bashford took over and hit a Pedigree to finish things off. Nothing much to see here, Bashford being tolerated by this crowd seemed to be enough to get a start in AMW.

Devorah Triton is walking backstage and she bumps into The Hustlers.

Dodger: “Tsss…Dev…told you, you can’t keep avoiding us.”

Turner: “Tell it, Rog.”

Dodger: “See, you’re just like a beautiful diamond, with huge assets and a little bit of baby diamond down below, that needs proper treatment…so…”

Archangel steps around the corner and seems to be expecting this.

Archangel: “Dev, these low-lives giving you trouble again? Hey, why don’t you try talking to a real man?”

Well…this was short. Little Bill tried a few running moves, a few flying moves and ended up being thrown around the ring. The Ultimate Press Slam finished it. Hey, the little guy bumped well for the big guy.

Mighty Thor stays in the ring and the colour commentator (who’s supposedly running the booking end but hasn’t been introduced) comes out with the mic.

Thor: “Let me make this short. Rev, say your prayers. Each day, each hour, each minute….I don’t care. No god of yours will stop me from taking that title. I’ll rip you apart.”

“Like a rocket ship, coming from Capricorn, I’ll chew your behind into nacho’s, feed them to your children and take a cr*p on them”.

One half of the tag champs takes on Archangel in an even bout, which seemed to be spiced up with botches from both men. Both seemed to be struggling but played off eachother well. The end seemed foretold: Roger Dodger ran out to hassle Devorah Triton and when Archangel came over to interfere there, Turner hit him from behind and nailed the Slick Pimp Spike for the pin.

Chris Kovach started things out and looked in good touch, keeping up with The Rev. The Rev got the upper hand and tagged in Chris Gordon who landed in some decent shots and did some quick tag work. Kovach played possum for a legdrop and Gordon got suckered into the defence. Kovach with good stuff, a tag to Big Smack Scott who seemed to take ages before pummeling Gordon. Scott took ages to land a falling headbutt and Gordon moved to tag in the Rev. Then The Rev was all over Scott…The Rev seemed to set up the Benediction, but BSS decided to give him a low blow in plain sight of referee Eugene Williams who called the DQ. In the meanwhile, Joel Kovach was already walking down the aisle, disgusted with his tag partner.

The Rev rolls out of the ring, winded but still ready for a fight. Chris Gordon tries to take on Big Smack Scott but Scott turns round and starts pummeling and stomping Gordon into the ground. The ref can’t stop Big Smack Scott as he continues to lay a beating on Gordon. The Rev recovers, enters the ring, and stops the beating. The show ends with both men trading blows. AMW News wire

* Edwin D. Bashford has signed a contract extension for six months on a PPA deal. There were big rumours that he wanted out of the company but apparantly the change of ownership and a few wins on television did wonders for his morale. For now at least.

* "You big sick sad bag of worthless sh$t!" are apparently words to describe a co-worker. Just rumours but apparantly someone made a recording of Corey Smith after his match with Sabbath after he injured his shoulder. Then again, shoulder sprains can happen to anyone, even those AS400 IT PRO's. So Smith shouldn't complain and be back in a week or so.

* Awesome Max Wrestling has announced it's first Monthly show...currently, without a PPV carrier but said to be the center for the action. The first show will be called "AMW Blood On The Tracks 1997". Bob Dylan has filed a lawsuit but as all the contracts are still out on Trenton Evenrud's name, this will be a long term legal battle.

* Mighty Thor looks to be staying a bit longer in AMW. Negotiations seem to be going well.

* The company seems to be looking for more faces, so prepare for some signings or turns here!

The Count: “I’m looking … for new blood!”

And with that, he stalks the ringside again and goes to the back. (E+)

After some posing by Big Smack the match (finally) got underway. Archangel took on the early offence, whipping Scott into the turnbuckles but Scott no sold some of the offence. It didn’t take long for The Hustlers to make their way out to distract Divorah Triton. The ref tried to keep up but Turner managed to trip up Archangel. Big Smack just looked on, smiling, instead of taking over the offence. With Scott just deciding to pose and flex (and spit on Archangel), The Hustlers took things to the next level, entered the ring and beat down Archangel, prompting the ref to call for the bell for the disqualification.

Archangel defeated Big Smack Scott in 8:19 when Big Smack Scott was disqualified when Roger Dodger ran in and attacked Archangel. During the match we also had Ernie Turner run in and attack Archangel. (F+)

Big Smack Scott is being ushered away by the ref, thinking he won the match. The Hustlers once again lay a beating on the fallen Archangel, as Triton can only look on in disgust. (E+)

A non title match between a few top contenders and the champ. Rev looked to be outgunned early on but kept his own until Mighty Thor caught him and hit a pumphandle slam. Thor with some power moves but Lawless wasn’t going to sit back and attacked Mighty Thor, trying to steal a victory. Big Smack Scott came to ringside again and while Thor and Lawless –looking pretty good in the ring- were slugging it out, he entered the ring and hit a powerslam on The Rev. The ref had enough of this pier-6 brawl and rules the match a no contest.

Non Title Match: The Rev drew with Mighty Thor and Johnny Lawless in 8:00 when the referee was forced to rule a no contest when all hell broke loose. During the match we also had Big Smack Scott run in and attack The Rev. (D)

As the ref calls the bell and everybody seems to get separated into a corner, Lawless notices Big Smack’s presence at ringside. Lawless goes nose to nose with Scott, asking what he’s doing here during HIS match. Scott also doesn’t back down and the show closes! (C-)

General: E+ show. (More storylines and WOMEN needed!)

"If some loser gets in my face, I want to punch him in the gut. And more. I don't take smack from anyone.", Big Smack Scott grins. "What was he called again? Crash? Crash Lewis? Well, that's karma for him I guess."

http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx165/rikgeerts/AMW/Christopher%20Ball_alt_zps0krblsv3.jpg

"Up to the third week, I thought all the bad comments and vibes you heard about the AMW backstage politics were exegerrated. Really, nothing of note happened. But before the show, things really kicked off.", the Belgian Booker reflects on his time in AMW.

"It all started rather innocently. Corey Smith almost came to blows with James Sinclair before the match. Both looked like they wouldn't be able to hurt the other guy, but I tried to talk sense into Smith but you could see he couldn't care less."

"Thomas Goddard...yeah, he made it worse. He thought he was a joker, or come to think off it, he probably thought he was the next big thing for real. He'd put up a fake poster on everyone's locker, displaying an image of him, beating the other. Some guys got really upset. To top things off, he'd actually used wall glue to attach the stuff, so it didn't come off properly and damaged the lockers. I fined him for that. He didn't like it."

"The worst was yet to come....the thing with Preston and Thor."

http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx165/rikgeerts/AMW/Preston%20Lockhart_zpsdejd5pii.jpg

"I didn't see it coming. Even with my experience. Thor had been in a foul mood before the show and had kicked a few things around. I could see Johnny had enough of it so I tried to talk to him. Didn't see it coming but he flattened me with a big right. My neck hurt like h*ll....I think he got fined for it but the backstage atmosphere of AMW was once again apparantly like it was. Without Trenton, still stinkin'..."
