21CW - A new March into the unknown.....

Recommended Posts

I've never played using the Cornellverse before, and I've never really read up on any of the numerous dynasties that people have ongoing on here and other sites. I don't actually know what made me start one, I have quite a good ICW game going on yet found myself this morning, hungover and looking for a new challenge.

Bring forth the Cornelverse, and in particular, 21CW.

Now being completely new to this, I'm going to post up the results of my first show, in the hope that some people can give me pointers and/or tips.

From there on in, I'll use this like a normal thread, asking you guys for predictions and what not.

So, here goes.

Solid first show, Do I see a Orson heel turn in the works?

As for any tips, diaries I've done in the past (mainly over on the dugout (FM forum), I've always tried to use pictures where I can. People get bored of just text after a while.

Welcome to diary writing! I find that writing a diary definitely enhances my enjoyment of TEW. It pushes me to ensure that not only do the decision I make in the game make sense from a gameplay point of view, but from a narrative perspective as well. Can I explain why I did something without having to fall back on "it gave me a better score"?

21CW is a great fed for a diary, IMHO (or not so humble, perhaps <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />). I personally prefer playing a Popularity > Performance fed because it naturally lends itself to angles, which are the foundation of storytelling in pro wrestling. Everyone talks about the old days before all this "sports entertainment nonsense", but even in the old days, it was important to have someone "talk the audience into the building". 21CW doesn't have any real competition in its home turf, so you can really focus on telling the stories that you want to tell, and not have to worry too much about other feds coming to steal away your talent in the middle of a feud. You've also got the ability to make inroads into the European continent if you want, or possible make an entry into the North American market - particularly since there are BBC-like broadcasters that can get you into Canadian and American TV markets.

I don't know if you want ideas on how to write your diary. That's such a very personal thing to decide how to approach, and the important thing is to develop your own unique voice as a writer. I can tell you some of the things that I've done in an attempt to make my diary as interesting to read as I can:

1. Strong characters - I feel like, in order to make a reader care about my diary, they have to care about the characters in it. Whether it's the characters in kayfabe or their "real" selves backstage, "So-and-So beat This Person" is most interesting when you care whether So-and-So wins or loses a match. Make me want to know what happens next to a character and you've got me hooked...which, incidentally, is good wrestling booking <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

2. Conflict - With the exception of a few "slice of life" stories, the pivot of most storytelling is conflict. This doesn't have to be between characters; in my diary, my backstage is at 97% harmony, and so I reflect that by the characters within the fed getting along rather well. The conflict comes in kayfabe, and backstage, the conflict is trying to grow a Regional company with limited resources and bigger companies always ready to pick off my best workers that I've spent time and effort developing.

3. Motivation - With strong characters, they want something. When two or more people want the same thing, but there's only one of that thing, there's conflict. When two people want two mutually exclusive things, there's conflict. I think it's important as a reader to understand why things happen. Avoid Vince Russo swerves unless they're explained in the aftermath. That doesn't mean no surprises - surprises can be fun - but the surprise should make sense based on what we've been told. If it comes out of nowhere (like an RKO) then it seems random, and that's rarely satisfying.

There's several diaries I really like and read regularly - MrWolf101's Dark Phoenix Wrestling, Dr_Avalanche's QAW diary, DarEatWorld's SNP, and I'm looking forward to a new diary by sincerenoble. Bockwinkel's got an AWA diary (appropriate, given his name) that I've been enjoying. They'll all unique, and I wholly admit that when they have a good idea I shamelessly steal from them - with a hat tip to them for being creative enough for me to pilfer their best ideas <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/cool.png.f00d2562b2c1d873a09323753efdb041.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Good luck with the diary! I'll do a prediction in the near future. I'll be keeping an eye out for your next entries - 21CW seems like it could be a lot of fun.

got a new reader in me. I may look at doing predictions at some point :-)

As for tips, I agree with the person that said pictures help. Also don't get to wrapped up in lengthy match/angle write-ups. or maybe if you do save them for the likes of the PPVs etc, while the shows are more written as a highlight way?
