Triple H started the show, boasting that he had defeated the so-called number one contender last week on SmackDown!, and said that Chris Benoit would be next at Fully Loaded. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Mr. McMahon joined him in the ring, but you could feel the tension in the air as Austin claimed he would springboard off of Triple H’s victory to keep the World title in the Power Trip. Jericho and Benoit came out following that, with the two saying that while Vince may have his blinders on, it’s pretty apparent that pretty soon Austin and Helmsley were likely to either kiss or kill one another, but one thing we will know soon is that they won’t have the World title soon. Benoit chimes in that Triple H is going to tap or snap yet again this Sunday, but Hunter tells him he won’t get the chance because “The Game” will break him first. Shane McMahon joins the segment, saying that he will personally be making sure that those matches are one on one. Vince isn’t happy about it, but it looks like things are heating up for this Sunday! Early on in the evening, Faarooq and Bradshaw were seen backstage. “The Coach” asked them what they were doing at the Civic Center tonight, with the only answer given being that someone had paid for their services. They were seen again later, but again there was no word given. Remember this for later. Shane McMahon and Diamond Dallas Page seem pretty upbeat about Fully Loaded, but talking to The Undertaker about it lowers the mood a lot. “The American Bad Ass” makes it clear that his help to them extends only until they’ve taken down X-Factor, and then he’s going his own path again, and they can do whatever they want as long as they stay out of “the big dog’s” yard. Michael Cole talks to Mr. McMahon, while he stands by with William Regal, who says that Shane gave him an idea by wanting things to be one on one. So tonight and on SmackDown!, he is going to set up tag team matches that will be suitable warm-ups for Jericho and Benoit and then for the Power Trip. Later, Regal finds Triple H and Stephanie in Mr. McMahon’s office, and Hunter appears to be looking over some documents. But before he can find out much about them, Vince enters the room and chases Regal, Hunter, and Stephanie away, refusing to answer any questions about this. During a backstage interview with Jonathan Coachman, Trish Stratus was attacked by Ivory. Later in the evening, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley took to the ring and proclaimed that she is once and for all the “Alpha Bitch” of the WWF, and that Trish needs to just stop what she’s thinking! “Latino Heat” Eddie Guerrero stirred the pot ahead of his match with Spike Dudley by telling Molly Holly that she needed to “Upgrade to some ‘Latino Heat’ before the Dudley Boyz destroy her little boyfriend” but it only incensed Spike to attack! With help from Molly, delivering the Molly-Go-Round to Eddie, Spike picks up the win. Bubba and D-Von appear afterwards and come to attack, but they are held off – the APA come to the rescue, apparently having been paid by Spike for their protection! The main event pitted Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit against the Dudley Boyz; however, it wasn’t long until Mr. McMahon’s grand plan came to fruition as he turned it into a four on two handicap match by adding Albert and Justin Credible to the bout. But Shane had another backup plan, by sending Diamond Dallas Page and The Undertaker! Undertaker finishes the bout by pinning D-Von after The Last Ride. Elsewhere on the show: The Big Show was attacked by Haku prior to his match against Rikishi; Rikishi d. The Big Show; The Godfather doesn’t even bother offering a girl to Raven, saying that he doesn’t have anything that whatever he is would be into; The Godfather d. Raven; Matt Hardy d. Perry Saturn; Terri teases the crowd at WWF New York; Billy Gunn d. Dean Malenko; Edge does a five second pose to mock both Rhode Island and Billy Gunn, with Billy saying he won’t be so obnoxious when he takes the European title from him at Fully Loaded; Rhyno and Test fight to a double count out. The show opened with Triple H following up on something he saw on RAW is WAR, as he called Mr. McMahon out to force him to give details. Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley got him to give up that it is a new match that he is creating, and he was going to save the announcement for Fully Loaded, but since everyone has no patience, he’ll reveal that it is a combination of Hell in a Cell and the Royal Rumble that he is calling the Elimination Chamber! Triple H says that he wants in, because a match like that has to have championship implications, but Mr. McMahon says that he isn’t handing out spots in the bout until this Sunday! Lilian Garcia spoke to Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit, who say they’re a little banged up after their match on RAW, but there’s no way they’d miss Fully Loaded. They look forward to seeing who Mr. McMahon claims is a “suitable warm-up match” for the Power Trip tonight. But from there we see Vince McMahon, Stephanie, and William Regal in Vince’s office. Mr. McMahon says that “Stone Cold” needs to keep the title this Sunday no matter what; he implies to Regal that he wouldn’t be opposed to Jericho suffering some sort of “accident” later tonight that could put him off the show! “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Mr. McMahon come to the ring, Austin saying that at WrestleMania, he gladly sold his soul to win the World Heavyweight championship, so what does Chris Jericho think he can do to reach the depths he requires to defeat him for the belt? Shane McMahon comes out and tells Austin that he hasn’t been the same since WrestleMania, and that Jericho is going to be the nail in the coffin of the Power Trip and Vince McMahon all in one fell swoop. He tells his dad that he is keeping an eye on things to make sure Jericho makes it to Fully Loaded at 100% so he can take that title home! “Y2J” gets his own time to come to the stage, and he recounts a career of not breaking through the glass ceiling. He says that this is his time, this Sunday is his place, and this time there won’t be some “phantom title reign” because he will lock Austin in the Walls of Jericho until he screams that Jericho is “The Ayatollah of Rock ‘n Rollah” and makes him the new WWF World Heavyweight champion! The Big Show has had enough of the Island Tribe, so he challenges them to a tag team street fight at Fully Loaded. Rikishi and Haku come to the stage and say that Show doesn’t have anyone to team with, so maybe they should just take him out right now. But when they start heading for the ring, they’re cut off by a BOOM of fire, and Kane comes out to the stage! They better reinforce the ring for this one! As the Power Trip enter the ring, Mr. McMahon comes to the stage and says that he searched long and hard for suitable opponents who have had the same level of success in their career as Jericho and Benoit… bringing out Too Cool! Triple H seems to be disappointed with this charade, but still cooperates with Austin during the match to handily defeat them. Afterwards, Jericho and Benoit hit the ring, and we ensue CANADIAN VIOLENCE as it becomes a brawl! But a miscalculation sees Benoit dodge out of the way and Austin hammers Triple H by accident with the World title belt! You would think that would end the show, but instead the cameras catch William Regal backstage, and as the Power Trip argue in the ring, he does what Mr. McMahon ordered earlier – by sending out Rhyno to attack Jericho on the ramp! We had seen Regal meeting with Rhyno earlier, but hadn’t known what was happening, but apparently he was making a deal with “The Man Beast”! Rhyno rings Jericho’s bell with a steel chair, before lining him up and delivering a Gore that puts Jericho right through the SmackDown! logo on the stage! They destroyed the entire arena! The show closes with Jericho needing medical attention, will he even make it to Fully Loaded?! Elsewhere in the show: Albert d. Hardcore Holly; in a No Count Out match, Test d. Rhyno by disqualification when Rhyno assaults Test with a steel chair; Justin Credible challenges Steve Blackman to make their bout a Kendo Stick match, which is accepted; Justin Credible d. Steve Blackman by using the stick to perform a low blow; Raven says that tonight, he plans on taking The Undertaker into “Raven’s world of pure darkness, a dark that he’s never seen”; Undertaker d. Raven by DQ when Albert runs in and attacks him; DDP is at WWF New York and says that X-Factor feeling the bang this Sunday will be a good thing; Jeff Hardy is interviewed by Coach, telling Rob Van Dam that he may know extreme, but Jeff Hardy is gonna show him Team X-Treme; Edge has a five second pose to mock Boston and says he will be the King of Europe forever; in a non-title match, The Godfather d. Edge when Billy Gunn causes a distraction; Jeff Hardy d. Perry Saturn; Coach talks to the Dudley Boyz who warn the Acolytes that getting in their business breaks the commandment of “Thou shalt not mess with the Dudley Boyz,” so they better either cancel the deal with Spike or make sure he’s paid up, because they’ll need the money for hospital beds. The Gund Arena is a sold out 15,000 strong for the hottest pay-per-view of July! The show opened with the European championship being defended, as Edge took on “The One” Billy Gunn. Gunn nearly regained the title using his strength advantage, but Edge fought back and retained his title with a well placed spear – picking up a rare clean victory, and one that he didn’t stick around to brag about. Backstage, the Power Trip were seen in their dressing room. Mr. McMahon was rallying the troops, saying that tonight was “all hands on deck” and that they are to watch one another’s backs tonight. Triple H took offense to this, saying that he didn’t need any damn backup to win tonight. He stormed out of the office, putting a damper on the evening, but Mr. McMahon said that by the end of the night, everything would be in order. Next out was the Tag Team champions, as the Dudley Boyz took on little brother Spike and his hired protection, Faarooq. Spike and Faarooq showed some nice teamwork with one another as they tried to take down the champions, but Spike is not Bradshaw; the lack of familiarity bit them and Spike took the 3D before getting covered for the successful title defense. After the bout, Bubba grabbed Molly and planned on putting her through a table, but Spike was able to interject and escape. X-Factor took on the team of The Undertaker and Diamond Dallas Page next, and while cohesion was an issue in the previous match, vengeance led to focus in this bout. Albert and Justin Credible were like a well oiled machine, but Justin took The Last Ride to close the match. Page had a celebration after the win, but Undertaker took off on his bike before the celebration could kick off. The Island Tribe are a vicious team, and in a street fight could be downright deadly. But through Hellfire and brimstone, Kane and The Big Show took them on. The two giants savagely brawled with the Tribe, and it ended when Big Show delivered a ring shaking Chokeslam to Rikishi, pinning him and finally moving on from this battle. We went to WWF New York briefly to see Matt Hardy there talking to fans and enjoying Fully Loaded. He said he was alone here, as Lita is at the Gund Arena to make sure her new friend Trish Stratus doesn’t get cheated in her match with Ivory. He also says that he can’t wait to watch Jeff take Rob Van Dam out and show what Team X-treme is all about. Back in the arena, Chris Jericho is shown getting ready. JR and Heyman note that while “Y2J” is generally laughing and joking around, tonight he looks all business. Our next match took place between Chris Benoit and “The Game” Triple H. These two masters of the sport broke one another down physically and mentally, each one working toward decimating the other. In the end, despite Triple H’s best efforts, he ended up locked in the Crossface, but even while referee Tim White was knocked out, he refused to tap again. Assistance arrived when Kurt Angle made his return, rushing in and pulling Benoit out of the hold and hitting him with the Angle Slam! Triple H took advantage, hitting the Pedigree and scoring the win, but the look on his face told a bigger story: that help was definitely unwanted! A quick segment backstage showed Lita talking to Trish Stratus, a show of solidarity between the two. But then it was right back to action, as the WWF Hardcore title was defended. Unlike other hardcore matches, which are about who can swing the most furniture at the other person, this bout was more about two of the top fliers in the World Wrestling Federation trying to top one another. The battle went all through the ringside area, and culminated in a one-two punch of RVD hitting Hardy with a Van Daminator that sent him off the stage – and then Van Dam leaped off the stage to hit a Five Star Frog Splash! That was enough for him to retain the title, but this one doesn’t seem over yet! Our penultimate match-up featured the women of the World Wrestling Federation as Ivory, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley’s chosen assassin, took on the thorn in her side, Trish Stratus. Ivory has a lot more experience than the former model, and she made sure to rub that in her face throughout the match. But youthful fire was the deciding factor, as Trish came back with the fans on her side to hit a bulldog after bouncing off the ropes to score a surprising win! The match over, Stratus takes a microphone and calls out Stephanie, saying that there’s only one thing left: taking on Stephanie herself! “Daddy’s Little Girl” came to the stage and told Stratus that she doesn’t deserve to face her in the ring, but if she has to stop Trish’s little crusade with her own hands, then she’ll do it at SummerSlam! The time had come for the WWF Championship match, and both challenger and champion looked ready as they made their way to the ring. About halfway through the bout, Mr. McMahon made his way to ringside and seemed to be a concerned bystander, but the first time he laid a finger on the apron, his son Shane was right there to keep him back! The power struggle between father and son continued at ringside until things were looking desperate – as Jericho blocked the kick that regularly precedes the Stunner and turned it into the Walls of Jericho! At this point, emotion took over and Vince grabbed a steel chair, laying Shane out with it! As Earl Hebner dealt with that, Triple H came to the ring with Stephanie at his side. Stephanie grabbed the attention of Hebner, as Vince entered the ring… but “The Game” stood in his way, poised with his sledgehammer! Another mental power struggle ensued, as Triple H seemed to be weighing his allegiances… before bringing the hammer down on the back of Jericho! This one was academic at that point, as Austin made a weak cover and retained the championship. After the bout, Mr. McMahon took to a microphone and congratulated “Stone Cold” on another successful title defense. He then announced that next month, we would see a radical new match type created by, for, and in house of the World Wrestling Federation, himself specifically. He said that this would combine the wonder of a Hell in the Cell, Survivor Series, and Royal Rumble match, as two would start the match as four men would be locked in specially made and reinforced chambers around the ring and would enter every five minutes. This would continue until five men were eliminated – hence the name, the Elimination Chamber! He then began to announce competitors for in the match: the champion, obviously, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. “Your Olympic Hero” Kurt Angle; some guys who could use getting their faces rubbed into some steel, “Y2J” Chris Jericho and “Rabid Wolverine” Chris Benoit; The Big Show, who, apparently whether Vince liked it or not, earned himself a shot earlier; but before Vince can name the last person he had in mind (which was starting to begin with a W) Shane speaks up and announces the final person as Triple H! Shane says that Vince wasn’t going to name Triple H because he only wants people in the match that he thinks can either be taken out or would play ball, and it seems that “The Game” was neither of those things! Triple H re-enters the ring and starts accosting the Chairman of the WWF, asking him if he doesn’t think he deserves the match, or if he’s afraid he would defeat the golden goose? The rest of the Power Trip come to the ring to try and cool the situation, but when Mr. McMahon tells Helmsley that he needs to watch his damn tone or else be reminded of what family he’s married into, “The Cerebral Assassin” snaps! He grabs Vince by the shirt, and when the others try to grab him, he tears into everyone! The fans go crazy as Triple H starts nailing sledgehammer shots to everyone, leaving only he and Austin – and they go at it! After Austin misses a shot with the championship, Triple H hits him with the Pedigree! You’re ****ing kidding me. Okay, let’s take a step back. This is all going too far. The WWF have been somehow providing fans with ideas just one week or so before we premiere them. Nothing major; just things like six or eight man tag matches, a big time face turning heel to join with the owner at a big show, people I wanted to try and hire being snapped away to sit in development hell, and a romance storyline that should draw in some female crowd. Hey, those are all things that could simply be coincidental. Wrestling is wrestling, after all, and people can have similar ideas, right? Vince and I are both geniuses at heart, maybe we’ve somehow just been on the same wavelength since the start of the year. But apparently, that’s not so simple. Now, I’m being openly mocked. You cannot even begin to tell me that the WWF just ‘happened’ to know that I had Scott in my sights and so close to being brought in. You cannot even begin to tell me that they just ‘happened’ to know that Kevin’s deal, the short term one that he asked me to make sure I tried to sign Scott, was almost over. And the biggest one, you cannot even begin to tell me that they just ‘happened’ to invent the same exact match that I did and unveiled it one night before I did. All this year so far, I’ve felt like I was behind the eight ball when it comes to tracking the moves that Vince was making. But it looks as though there was a bigger reason for why it was that way. God damn, we've got a mole in our midsts.....at least that explains the perculiarness with Tully.....and an office mole no less to be swiping contracts....wait, you didn't hire Jim Barnett did you? Because he's got a history of that don't you know my boy......

....bye bye Kevin, by this stage of your career you're a loss in name value alone, but damn was I looking forward to that Outsiders reunion. With WCW alive and well (and still owning the nWo trademark) here, I'm curious to see if it's Nash and Hall heading up north or Razor and Diesel......get Rick Bognor on the phone mang, see if his Scott Hall is any better than his Razor Ramon

I don't share these much (like, ever) in this manner, but it just took me a little by surprise, so I had to share.

It looks to me like "The Lethal Weapon" may have let his gimmick get a little to his head to think that he could take down THE MONSTER MENG, but all he ended up with is his own "Haku story" for people to tell in shoot interviews ten years from now.

I suspended him for it and Steve was happy about it. He must have wanted to get away from Haku now that his "tough guy" act has been destroyed.

PPV Rating: 0.01 TV Rating: 2.29</div> The final Nitro of July opens with the sound of the sirens wailing as our World’s Heavyweight champion heads toward the ring with big brother Rick and head freak Midajah following closely behind, and Scott looks even more upset than usual. He roughly grabs the microphone from David Penzer before going on a tirade about how last week was “the biggest injustice I’ve seen in a wrestling ring since bald ass Hulk Hogan and weak ass Kevin Nash decided to blow one another and handjob over this title in 1999.” Scott says that some painted up whore like Sting is only good for one thing, and that thing is not winning matches; everyone already knows what he feels about that “crooked toothed old horse’s ass Ric Flair” and there ain’t no way that two young, green, Power Plant pukes are gonna beat the greatest tag team in the history of wrestling, the Steiner Brothers! So apparently, something went wrong last week. It wasn’t him or Rick, because anyone watching that match saw them dominating the so-called competition! He isn’t even saying that it was Buff or Lex, because even though they ain’t as good as the Steiner Brothers, and even though they’re arguing like a couple’a “Big Poppa Pump’s” hoes when they wanna be the first in line to have the “Genetic Freak” they are still good enough to make that fight. Steiner’s performance is just fantastic here tonight. So it looks like the fault lies… with Midajah! Scott points the finger at her, saying that she screwed up last week just like she’s been screwing up quite a bit over the past few months, and he’s just about had it with her! He tells her that one more screw up like that and it doesn’t matter how fine her ass is, because he can replace her with a new head freak in a heartbeat! Midajah’s acting isn’t very good as her performance of looking shocked is poor. He then changes tone back to the matter of hand, the Wrath match. But thunder claps over the arena before he can discuss that, and “Seek and Destroy” brings out Sting! “The Franchise of WCW” stands at the top of the aisle and tells Steiner that he was already in good standing for the Wrath match, but that winning last week should put him at the top of the list now. He warns Steiner that he is coming for his eigth World championship win, so after he makes it through Wrath, it’s gonna be showtime! Steiner says that he thought Sting was gonna come out here and brag like the best bitch of the party after how last week ended, he’s just surprised that he took his tongue out of Flair’s ass long enough to do it! Steiner says that Sting hasn’t shown him a damn reason for why he would win the Wrath match, so he ain’t sweating about anyone who could be in it yet. But he suggests that tonight, maybe he can show them something by taking on Lex Luger tonight! Sting looks good here, not backing down an inch, as he howls to the crowd and says that he and Lex have been best friends and best enemies for the better part of ten years, so if “The Package” meets him in the ring, he’ll give Scott something to sweat about when he meets him across the ring at Wrath! This angle got the crowd incredibly hot for the rest of the show by starting us off very strong. (Rating: A) <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="D0QZBAc.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/D0QZBAc.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> <hr><details><summary>Billy Kidman vs. “Sugar” Shane Helms</summary> In this very fast paced, high spots based match up between two of WCW’s hottest young stars, Kidman retained the championship in 7:18 by hitting a low blow before drilling Helms to the mat with the Kid Krusher. (Rating: B-)<hr></details></div></div></blockquote> Kidman is leaving the ring when Rey Mysterio Jr. hits the ring! He isn’t able to get his hands on Billy, as he escapes, but it appears “Rey-Rey” wasn’t as after him as Billy may have thought. Instead, Mysterio requests the microphone from David Penzer, and he instead calls out Vampiro! He says that while he wants to get his hands on Kidman and regain his X Division title, he also knows that you get nowhere by going after the tail of a snake, you have to cut off it’s head. He tells Vampiro that he almost accepts a match against him for Wrath, but he has something to add to it, and he wants Vampiro out here to see his face! Rey struggles off-script here, but the point is getting across well enough. Vampiro comes to the aisle and tells Mysterio that he shouldn’t be looking this gift horse in the mouth; he has been offered a chance at redemption and he wants to make stipulations upon it? Vampiro calls him ungrateful, but says that he will hear out Mysterio’s challenge. Rey says that both of them came up through Mexico, and they both have that tradition running through their veins. He says that the way Vampiro has screwed with him and his life for the past few months, he can only think of one way to honor that tradition and destroy Vampiro and his Dark Eden once and for all: he wants their match to be a Mexican Deathmatch! Vampiro improvises well in this segment, as he smiles – perhaps not the reaction Rey was expecting – telling Rey that if he wants to find death rather than redemption, Vampiro will make the proper arrangements for his funeral. It looks like we have a big match coming at Wrath! (Rating: B-) We head backstage to “Mean” Gene and Jeremy, with Gene first of all telling people to check out his article on WCW.com if you want to see find out who has retired from wrestling in the past week. Gene then brings in his guest at this time, Animal, who is set to face off with Booker T later for the WCW United States Heavyweight championship. Animal has few words here, the gist of the interview just him yelling that once he’s done beating Booker and taking home a piece of singles gold for the first time in his career, then Sting is becoming the top priority again! (Rating: C+) Backstage, we see Madusa watching a monitor. Commentary speculate that she is watching for the talent that she is planning to offer her managerial services to. (Rating: D-) <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><hr><details><summary>Big Bill vs. Jamie Knoble</summary> In a short squash match, Big Bill takes all the offense that Knoble can throw at him before polishing him off with a brutal powerbomb and the No Laughing Matter moonsault in 2:25. (Rating: C-) <hr></details></div></div></blockquote> Back again with Gene and Jeremy, this time they have the United States champion Booker T standing with them. They ask him for some thoughts about his match tonight against Animal and the challenge made last week by Shane Douglas. Booker says that Animal is tough and Douglas wants a shot. He plans on getting both of them, saying they can “get in line, suckas; I got plenty’a spots on the dance card for what’ll be a long run with this title!” Booker was a real star in this segment, hitting his catchphrases well and really playing the fighting champion’s role well. (Rating: C) We now head to the Hard Rock Skybox, where it appears the Problem Solvers are still holding the place down. Simon improvises a live promo well, taunting the Snukas that they keep trying to take this back, but since they’ve already shown that “Junior” just isn’t good enough to take it back, then it makes him wonder just how he was good enough to win it to begin with. Diamond told everyone that he and C.W. deserved this treatment from when they walked in the door, and that’s just hard proof that in all the newcomers who’ve come to WCW lately, they were always the ones who should have had the preferential treatment. Simon tells everyone that Disqo is heading to the ring for a match, and with his self-help words in Disqo’s mind, he’ll win this bout with no problem – because Simon says win! (Rating: D+) <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><hr><details><summary>Disqo vs. Screamin’ Norman Smiley</summary> In a solid comedy match that gives the crowd a nice moment to relax, Disqo defeats Norman Smiley in 4:18 with the Last Dance. (Rating: C-) <hr></details></div></div></blockquote> <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;">http://i.imgur.com/JBl4mtV.jpg?1 <hr><details><summary>Booker T vs. Animal</summary> This is a very brutal brawl all around the ring and ringside area as these two do all they can to come out as the prestigious United States champion. Animal grabs plenty of chances to win with big, powerful slams that rock Booker’s entire body, but the champion always manages to kick out. Finally one missed maneuver as Animal charged into the corner backfires as Booker moves, causing Animal to smash into the turnbuckles and stagger into the Book End, as the champion retains at 11:59. There wasn’t much selling during this match. (Rating: B-) Booker takes time to climb onto the titles and hold up his championship, celebrating with the cheering crowd, but those cheers quickly turn to jeers as “The Franchise” Shane Douglas appears and grabs Booker, slamming him onto the mat with an elevated belly to back suplex! Douglas pulls Booker back to his feet and hits him with the Franchiser, before placing his foot on Booker’s chest and holding up the US title himself! Commentary say that Douglas certainly looks dominant here, but if he were to meet Booker in the ring, he would have a lot more fight on his hands compared to attacking an already exhausted Booker from behind! Booker came across well during this angle. (Rating: B-)<hr></details></div></div></blockquote> It’s time for The WCW Worldwide Panel! Tony Schiavone says that we have a special treat for you tonight fans, as on the line is the owner and operator of World Championship Wrestling, Eric Bischoff! Each of the Panel members welcome Eric, with Jeremy adding that he hopes Eric is doing well after the attack last week by Dustin Rhodes. Bischoff says that he is doing alright, but decided that discretion is the better part of valor for tonight so he stayed at home rather than appearing in the arena and risking he or anyone else losing their cool. He says that he is here to announce that he and Commissioner Ernest Miller have been talking over the past week in depth about how to determine who best to enter the Wrath match on August 12th. The solution they have arrived at will see a series of triple threat matches between the best and brightest of WCW – save for guys such as Curt Hennig and Jeff Jarrett, who already agreed to wrestle one another at Wrath. Eric says that this throws one monkey wrech into the works already, as Rey Mysterio Jr. was meant to take part in one of them, up next, but his agreeing to face Vampiro means he is out of the match he had planned. So this bout will only be a singles match between Ernest Miller and Buff Bagwell. He also points out that this does not apply to Goldberg, who he cannot give a title shot to, and to Dustin Rhodes, who is going to be punished for his actions by not being allowed into the Wrath match. Eric also says that he is considering tonight’s new main event featuring Sting and Lex Luger to be a qualifying match, but with the added stipulation that the winner will take the final slot of the entry order in Wrath while the loser will have to requalify! The crowd are hotter after hearing this added wrinkle of the match, as Eric also adds that there will be an additional triple threat match, because Scott Steiner isn’t getting away easily; there are two names who he wasn’t able to fit into any of the qualifying matches, and they will get a shot at the most prestigious title in wrestling, the WCW World Heavyweight championship itself! Eric tells everyone to enjoy the rest of the show! (Rating: C-) Elsewhere backstage, we see Scott Steiner watching a monitor, and he doesn’t look pleased – but then again, when does he? (Rating: B) <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><hr><details><summary>Wrath Qualifying Match “The Cat” Ernest Miller vs. Buff Bagwell</summary> In a short match, Buff Bagwell gives Ernest Miller a good bout before placing his feet on the ropes during a pinfall at 3:57 to move into the Wrath match. (Rating: C-) <hr></details></div></div></blockquote> <div style="text-align:center;"><iframe width="220" height="180" src="<a href="https://www.youtube.com/embed/S445yWa45qs?controls=0" rel="external nofollow">https://www.youtube.com/embed/S445yWa45qs?controls=0"</a> frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe></div> The 2,000 sold out members of the crowd are instantly on their feet as out of the back walks none other than “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes! Rhodes gets to the ring and waits for the crowd to silence before saying that he’s happy to be here in a WCW ring again, and he wishes that it was for better circumstances. However, he’s here not be on his own or to be here for the fans, he’s here to be a father. Dusty says that last week, he watched Dustin lose his cool and “do what a bunch’a folk from the past ten years have wanted to do, and that’s kick Eric Bischoff where the sun don’t shine, daddy!” But he says that was part of the old WCW, the past, and maybe that’s where Dusty himself belongs, but he wants to see his son apologize for his actions and get a spot in the Wrath match. Dusty knows that Dustin isn’t here tonight, so he wants him to do so next week on Nitro. He would hope that Eric can accept that a little hot-headedness from a big, rough Texas boy can just happen sometimes, and let him take his shot just like anyone else. Dusty thanks the crowd for listening to “an old, broken down horse” like himself, and starts to leave when… <div style="text-align:center;"><iframe width="220" height="180" src="<a href="https://www.youtube.com/embed/hPkZnxGTuoQ?controls=0" rel="external nofollow">https://www.youtube.com/embed/hPkZnxGTuoQ?controls=0"</a> frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe></div> Lance Storm comes out of the curtain and he walks right into the ring. He gets the microphone from Dusty and says that it looks like we’ve been having some fun out here; everyone give it up for Dusty Rhodes! After a smattering of applause, Storm says that now we can get serious for a moment. He tells Dusty that a few months ago, he won a match called Envy, where his son wagered a pair of cowboy boots that belonged to Dusty; precious heirlooms that Rhodes had worn while winning a World championship. Storm says that while he has no problem in winning something that someone held dear, he has yet to figure out what a pure blooded, classically trained, greatest wrestler in the world from Calgary… Alberta, Canada, would ever do with a pair of cowboy boots. He tells Dusty that he has always hoped to finally get to meet him because he wanted to look him dead in the eye and tell him… to leave! He says that Dusty and his prodigy have taken up so much of the fans’ time that could be used on proper role models such as himself, instead leaving the kids out there to emulate fat, lispy plumbers or freakish perverts rather than fountains of greatness like Lance Storm. Dusty starts to take the microphone back to respond, but Storm forces it back, this time yelling at him to leave! When Dusty looks like he may start to “get funky like a monkey” like it’s 1986 all over again, Storm tells him not to even try it; because whether he likes it or not, the American Dream is dead! With that, Storm tells Dusty to leave again, and with a dejected look on his face, Dusty does so. Lance Storm stands in the ring, looking smug, as commentary talk about how this was not the homecoming to WCW that Dusty was expecting. This got the crowd a lot hotter. (Rating: C+) <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><hr><details><summary>The Natural Born Thrillers vs. Air Paris, Caprice Coleman, and Cassidy O’Reilly</summary> Stacy Kiebler cheers on the Thrillers from ringside as the Thrillers clinically dismantle their opponents. O’Haire drops the Seanton Bomb on Cassidy in 6:21 to score the pinfall. (Rating: C) After the match, the four of them enter the ring and get a microphone. Each of them get a chance to talk about how they have all entered into qualifying matches for Wrath, and the chances are strong that at least one of them will end up in the match and take on Scott Steiner! (Rating: B-) <hr></details></div></div></blockquote> “The Chosen One” enters the ring after the ring has cleared out, and he says that something’s pissing him off! He talks about how Curt Hennig has essentially walked back into WCW after being a jobber last summer and found himself as a major player just off the back of “The Chosen One” but he doesn’t buy it. Jarrett says that there’s no way Curt is going to just get a match against him after not having a major match on American soil in almost a year, and especially since Jeff has just finished coming off of months of defending the United States title week in and week out against the best slapnuts that WCW had to offer! (Mike Tenay points out that Jarrett only defended the title when he was forced to, but that’s neither here nor there.) Curt makes his way out of the back, and tells Jarrett that yeah, he’s right that Curt is remaking his name off of Jarrett’s back, but that’s because he feels like Jarrett needs to learn a lesson that he forgot a long time ago; just because you’re a talented second generation star, doesn’t mean the wrestling business hands everything to you! Jarrett laughs him off, saying that being “The Chosen One” is because he’s the best, not because anything gets handed to them. Jeff says that getting back to business; he will sit at home for Wrath unless Hennig shows up the next two weeks and has a match. He tells Curt that he doesn’t even care if he wins, just that he shows Jarrett that he can give him a challenge when they take one another on. Hennig agrees in an instant, saying that getting Jarrett in the ring is the first priority he has in WCW, but Jeff tells him that he will hand pick his opponents – and he may have just signed a contract that his slapnut ass can’t cash. (Rating: B) We now go to satellite footage where “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair is at his home. He acknowledges what Eric Bischoff said earlier about triple threat qualifying matches, saying that “The Nature Boy has dealt with two at one time plenty of times in my life, so bring it on, wooo!” Needless to say, Flair doesn’t do well without any scripting here, but his point is that he feels prepared to go into Wrath and walk out of the show holding his seventeenth World championship. (Rating: B-) The Future come to the ring, with Kaz Hayashi backing Chavo Guerrero Jr. as he prepares for one of perhaps the biggest matches of his career. Chavo takes the microphone and says that tonight, he retires Goldberg! The fans boo him for this bold statement, as Guerrero says that Curt Hennig and Jeff Jarrett were out here talking about being second generation stars earlier, but none of them can hold a candle to the Guerrero family tree! And that is why he intends on putting a huge feather in the cap of the family name by putting the so-called “man” out of pro wrestling tonight. Chavo really is not being seen as a threat here by the fans. The crowd come alive when “Da Man” comes out to the ring! Goldberg gets a microphone of his own and says that rather than just make Chavo into win #114 tonight, how about he goes double or nothing? He tells Chavo that his little Asian boy meat there may as well join in on the fun, and when he beats them, he’ll jump to 115 wins. Goldberg was fantastic here, really looking like the star that he is. Chavo is upset at being overlooked and Kaz is upset at his words, so they agree to the handicap match! Arn Anderson asks who is really at a handicap here? (Rating: C+) <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><hr><details><summary>The Future vs. “Da Man” Goldberg</summary> Two on one is pretty big odds for normal people, but this is Goldberg here. He is able to take down two such talent athletes with little trouble, pinning both of them simultaneously in 3:19. Goldberg looked good here and left the crowd buzzing, despite the lack of psychology during this bout. (Rating: C)<hr></details></div></div></blockquote> Chris Lovey is backstage and he is talking to Madusa. He asks her what she is looking for in a new client, and she answers “I'm scouting for talent, someone who lives up to those who I’ve taken to the top in the past; not just some musclehead who talks a big game.” She says that she has a few people in mind, but nothing concrete yet. (Rating: D) The reason Lovey was talking to Madusa is because Gene and Jeremy are in the interview set, where Okerlund brings in Big Bill for a word. However, Bill isn’t very happy to give them any words, saying that he spoke his mind last week and he doesn’t plan to chew his cabbage twice. He tells them that everyone saw what he did earlier to Knoble, and that type of beating is coming for anyone in his way. He doesn’t seem to like that Borash asks him a question, suddenly grabbing the young interviewer by the shirt and putting him against the wall! He screams at him “Get out of my face kid, or I’ll rip your’s off and beat you with it!” Big Bill throws Jeremy aside, leaving the area, as Gene tries to straighten Jeremy out. He tells him that if Bill hadn’t thrown him down like that, Gene was about to jump in and save him, but it was over sooner than he could get to action. Jeremy thanks him, and Gene points out that he wrestled alongside Hulk Hogan once, but you can see him shake his head that he doesn’t believe Gene as soon as Gene turned his back. (Rating: C-) We go elsewhere backstage where Sting is walking! Our main event is next! (Rating: B-) <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><hr><details><summary>Wrath Qualifying Match – Winner Takes Final Entrance Sting vs. “The Total Package” Lex Luger</summary> Our main event is hotly contested between these two men who have been on the same side and opposite sides multiple times throughout their careers. Sting commands a lot of this match as he fights to prove that he is the top contender to Scott Steiner’s World championship, but Luger has a lot to prove as well. The match is basically like the greatest hits version of what you’ve seen from them in the past, and just as Sting starts making his big comeback, Nick Patrick gets pulled into the way during the Stinger Splash. Luger goes down in a heap right next to him, and Sting starts trying to wake Nick up. However this is when Animal makes his presence felt, and he charges into the ring carrying a thick chain wrapped around his fist. He nails Sting with it in the back of the head, causing him to fall against the ropes, looking unconscious! Animal gets Luger into the fight again, and “The Total Package” takes advantage by lifting Sting up into the Torture Rack! Nick Patrick comes to long before Sting does, and with no response from “The Stinger” he orders the match be stopped at 13:39. (Rating: B-) Animal is laughing at this turn of fortune as he leaves the ring, when Sting is revived by officials. Lex is celebrating his win, which Sting looks like he is taking offense to, but not as much as when he notices Animal. He leaves the ring and charges, heading right after his attacker! Doug Dillinger and WCW Security are trying to separate the two as this week’s episode of Friday Nitro goes off the air! (Rating: D+) The Panel then changes gears and talk about how Curt Hennig now has two mystery opponents to take on in the next two weeks so he can face Jeff Jarrett. They question who Jarrett may find to go after Hennig, and whether the opponents will be out to challenge Hennig or to hurt him ahead of the match at Wrath? (Rating: C-) The show closes with the Panel discussing the qualifying matches and how next week, we will see a WCW World Heavyweight championship bout in a series of triple threat matches! Very good edition of Nitro.

I really enjoyed the Lance Storm/Dusty Rhodes segment. Solidly booked/written for some good heat on Storm, and an appearance by a legend like Dusty is always a great addition to the show.

I was also surprised to see Sting lose in the main event, but losing to Luger, even at this stage, and with the added shenanigans, shouldn't be too much of an issue going forward. And, of course, the booking makes sense to further the Sting/Animal issue.

As always, I'm looking forward to finding out what's next!

The HSBC Arena is the first stop on the way to SummerSlam, and things are definitely heating up!

Mr. McMahon opened the show to call out Triple H, saying that he and the rest of the Power Trip have talked it over and they will accept his apology for what happened last night. Triple H comes to the ring and tells his father-in-law that there will be no apologizing; he has been playing second fiddle to Steve Austin, and Vince wasn’t even planning to put him in the Elimination Chamber match. Now, he’ll pay for it when “The Game” lays out the golden goose and becomes the next WWF Champion! Mr. McMahon tells him that if he isn’t going to wisen up tonight, then he can leave the arena tonight and try again on SmackDown! Security come to the ring and escort Triple H out of the building!

“Olympic Hero” Kurt Angle returned at Fully Loaded to attack Chris Benoit, and he explains that he did it because the two have unfinished business stemming from earlier in the year. Benoit comes out, but instead of talking, he gets into a brawl with Angle that requires security to break them up!

The Power Trip have more problems later when “Stone Cold” and Debra arrive at the arena, and he is in a very foul mood. He confronts Vince and Stephanie McMahon, telling them that Triple H should never have been trusted because he can’t play ball – so Austin is going to have to do what he does and beat him. Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley urges Austin to let her talk to her husband, as she should be able to find ways to bring him around. Austin gives her until SmackDown! for her to straighten this out, but after that, “he’s fair Game.”

Commissioner Shane McMahon comes to the ring and says that last night was eye opening for him. He knew his father was ruthless, but to hit his own son with a steel chair just to keep a championship on his guy? That brings out Mr. McMahon, who says that Shane should have known what was coming when he decided to back someone who is going against him. Shane tells his father that he is willing to bury the hatchet with him, saying that all he truly wants is Vince’s respect. But when he extends his hand, Vince spits on it, telling him that as far as Mr. McMahon is concerned, he has no son!

In our main event, we saw six man tag team action as the Power Trip team of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, “Olympic Hero” Kurt Angle, and William Regal taking on “Y2J” Chris Jericho, “Rabid Wolverine” Chris Benoit, and The Big Show. This match could have had huge ramifications for the Elimination Chamber match as five out of six participants took part. But in the end it was that sixth man who made his impact felt as Triple H reappeared and rushed the ring, attacking Steve Austin! That drew a disqualification, but the fireworks won’t over yet as the former WWF Tag Team champions brawled in the center of the ring! The show came to a close with Triple H taking the championship title away from Austin and smashing the champion with it! “The Game” poses over “Stone Cold” while holding up the WWF Championship!

Also on the show: Edge claims that his reign as the Awesome King of Europe will soon lead to his title reign being the greatest reign in the history of the WWF. Scotty 2 Hotty defeats Eddie Guerrero with The Worm. Billy Gunn defeats Rhyno by disqualification when Rhyno goes into a rampage and attacks with a chair; angered at the loss, Rhyno Gores Billy twice before also delivering the Gore to Jack Doan! The Godfather and Val Venis defeat The Island Tribe when Val pins Haku after the Money Shot. Rob Van Dam says that Jeff Hardy had his shot and failed because RVD is the “Whole Dam Show” and will not give Jeff another shot as long as he holds the Hardcore title. Crash Holly upsets Perry Saturn with a quick roll up. The Dudley Boyz brag about being the top of the WWF Tag Team division, but other teams come to ringside to stake their own claims to that trophy. The Undertaker defeats D-Von Dudley by disqualification when Bubba Ray attacks. The Dudleyz seem to want to put Undertaker through a table with the 3D, but Spike Dudley breaks it up; Undertaker then puts both of The Dudley Boyz through the table, before also ruthlessly putting Spike through a table with a chokeslam! Diamond Dallas Page defeats Dean Malenko with the Diamond Cutter. Raven says that he is going to introduce Faarooq to The Raven Effect; Faarooq defeats Raven with a spinebuster. Justin Credible defeats Grand Masta Sexay after Albert hits Sexay with a Baldo Bomb. Trish Stratus says that she will be happy to get Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley into the ring, but Stephanie interrupts her to say that she should be careful what she wishes for!

Welcome to the new era in WWF SmackDown!, The Era of The FIST! After last week’s explosive ending to SmackDown!, we have an all new set and an all new intro, all new and all coming to you from Pittsburgh’s Mellon Arena!

Mr. McMahon opened the show by talking about how he has proudly given us all these brand new things, yet here is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania not appreciating any of what he does for them! He goes on to say that he knows a few more ungrateful people in the World Wrestling Federation, namely Triple H, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, and The Big Show! He mentions that Triple H has one final chance tonight to rejoin the Power Trip, but as for the others they will be in action tonight – in the interest of fairness – as Jericho and Benoit will take on The Big Show in a handicap match in our main event!

Chris Jericho was in no mood for fun and games tonight as he talked about last week’s assault at the hands of Rhyno. He calls Rhyno a “little follower” who works for whoever pays him, but says that he crossed the line by coming after “Y2J”. Jericho says he will meet Rhyno next week on SmackDown!, and putting that behind him he will springboard to the WWF title at SummerSlam. As for tonight? He and Benoit held the Tag Team titles as long as they did for a reason, and if Big Show is in their way, he may not make it to the Elimination Chamber!

Pittsburgh were excited to see Paul Heyman come to the ring, greeting him with loud “ECW!” chants when he entered to the sound of “This is Extreme”. Paul played to the crowd and their chants, but had other plans in mind as he turned it around on them to talk about how if they’d have been there for ECW, maybe it would still be around today! Heyman talks down to the fans before telling them that ECW is dead, and it’s all their faults! One other person doesn’t seem very pleased at his words, that being Tazz; but he shakes it off and continues the show. Raven later catches up with Heyman backstage, and tells him that Paul is wrong; ECW had been dead for years, all he did was carry around a lifeless puppet until earlier this year. Heyman doesn’t disagree.

Justin Credible and Albert were trying to get back on track after Fully Loaded by going against The Acolytes, but Faarooq and Bradshaw were up to the task. The match ended up a no contest as the Island Tribe, Val Venis, and The Godfather all came out and added to the fighting. A post match brawl featuring all four teams needed officials to try and break things up!

“Olympic Hero” Kurt Angle made his return to his hometown, but he was met with a very negative reaction. He called Pittsburgh “the house that Angle built!” before going on a tirade about other sports stars who weren’t at his caliber. Chris Benoit came to the stage to cut Angle off, telling him that during the Elimination Chamber, he will find Angle and personally make him snap! Angle told Benoit to keep an eye on him, as he soundly defeated Matt Hardy with the ankle lock.

Commissioner Shane McMahon arrived to the arena to hear the news of the match Mr. McMahon had made, and his exact words were “Are you kidding me with this?” Later, he tried to bring Benoit, Jericho, and Big Show onto the same page, but negotiations broke down during the talking and it nearly erupted right then and there!

Rob Van Dam was at his cockiest ahead of a Hardcore title defense, saying that after Fully Loaded, no one would ever care about Jeff Hardy again. He says that Team Xtreme mean nothing to him anymore, but that attitude would come back to bite him hard. As RVD was facing off with Spike Dudley, Jeff Hardy came out of the back and came down upon both men with a Swanton Bomb, before covering Van Dam to take the Hardcore title under the 24/7 rules! Hardy taunted RVD from the ramp, telling him that he can try to take this back at SummerSlam – in a ladder match!

Right before the main event, “The Game” Triple H came to the ring to answer the burning question of where his loyalties lie. He talked about how he feels like Vince McMahon has been using him ever since WrestleMania in order to prop up Steve Austin, but “The Game” is no prop; he’s the best damn wrestler in this industry today, and at SummerSlam, he plans to show that he’s that damn good! His wife Stephanie comes to the ring, and she begs with him to consider his words carefully, as he knows all too well what happens when people cross her father. But Triple H tells her that it looks like she’s the one who needs to get her priorities straight – it’s either he or Vince, and she better figure it out soon!

In the main event handicap match, all hell broke loose as none of the three men could keep their tempers in check. The bout ended up going to a no contest as Steve Austin and Kurt Angle ran in on the match to attack Big Show, Benoit, and Jericho. But the fun was not over yet, as Mr. McMahon came to the ring to egg things on. When Triple H appeared, he got right in his father-in-law’s face! Shane McMahon tried to come and calm things down, but Vince slapped him out of the way! This edition of SmackDown! ended with the six participants in the Elimination Chamber having to work together to try and hold Vince and Shane McMahon from tearing one another apart!

Also on the show: Too Cool defeated The Radicalz; William Regal successfully defended the Intercontinental title over Test; Rhyno said that he doesn’t care who he hurts, as long as he gets to destroy people; Diamond Dallas Page defeated Eddie Guerrero.

“I still have yet to figure out what I’m going to do about this mole situation. Due to having to tell people what’s happening in their storylines, practically everyone has information that could be getting leaked to the WWF. And at this point, there’s nothing I can even do about it. The plans can’t change drastically, or else it’ll just lead to the same type of backstage confusion that plagued WCW over the past few years. At the same time that it’s eating me alive from inside, I also can’t let it bother me yet; there’s too much other work to do and things to be kept track of. I kind of ignored last week in my paranoia, but there was a lot of news to report about.

Things such as the return of Bam Bam Bigelow from rehab last week. Bam Bam may be getting up there in years, but hopefully his newfound loyalty pledge to me for getting his life back on track will keep him working to the best of his (very high) abilities. I had considered trying to get in touch with Pro Wrestling NOAH to work out an agreement with them in order to bring in Vader for a few shows, but I think now I can be just as well off to just slot Bigelow into the plans that I had been making. He swears that he isn’t drinking or using recreational drugs anymore and that rehab has gotten him to drastically reduce the amount of pain killers he was taking, but The Wall swore much the same thing and now he’s on the unemployment line. I gave him dark matches to see where he was at the past two weeks to see how ready for prime time he is, and he didn’t disappoint; I guess it’s time to swim with the sharks and see how things go.

I also gave out a pay raise last week, as Daffney felt she had earned more as her stock rose as the valet of Dark Eden. I haven’t used her very much, but I gave in and handed her 75% of what she wanted; her pay rises by $900 to creep her up to $2,270 a month.

Jerry “The King” Lawler announced he was hanging up his boots (or perhaps his crown) in three months’ time. I considered the possibility of bringing him in for a big “last hurrah” angle, but in the end decided against it as I felt that he wouldn’t be a good fit for WCW, even in the short term. Also that he likely would have wanted to bring his wife in at his side, and I’m working on clearing away the dead weight, not hiring more. So he can just retire in peace; I’m sure he could book himself to win another Memphis title on his way out. Two of my oldest colleagues in Lance Russell and Verne Gagne have now fully left the business, and I attended the two’s small retirement party in Minneapolis last Wednesday.

Scott Steiner told me during Nitro how “That slanty Jap boy with the hot bitch? He couldn’t get these fans to cheer for him if he ripped her shirt off in the middle of the ring! Get him outta here already, and hey, maybe you could set her up to accompany me to the ring.” I deduced that he was talking about Yang and mostly ignored him.

Word broke that last Friday night, the WWF’s Edge married Alannah Morley, the sister of Val Venis. Apparently the marriage was meant to take place in November, but they decided they didn’t want to wait any longer and got it over with now instead. Pictures showed that Sean was very happy for the two.

[Writer’s Note: It was kinda weird, I had looked up and saw that Edge got married in November, so I changed his outside relationship to “Engaged” and then almost immediately it came up that he married. In order to make it feel right to me, I added a friendship between he and Val.]

In a huge move, New Japan Pro Wrestling announced on Sunday morning that they had bought out AJW. The joshi promotion had apparently fallen on harder times than anyone realized, and now their titles join OZ Academy’s on Inoki’s mantle.

As for this past week, former JCP announcer Bob Caudle left wrestling, and Jimmy Snuka said he was hanging up his boots. I made sure that he would be alright if I wanted to use him in a match or two, as that was something that we’d agreed upon when he signed with us, and with that answered, I had no problems. I found out through some sources that The Warlord was hoping to make a comeback to pro wrestling, and hey, if he wants to come back and make some money, good for him.

[Writer’s Note: Warlord apparently did try to make a comeback in 2001, but he only wrestled two or three matches before getting injured and bowing out again for another few years. I imported him into the game just in case I found something I would want him for anyways.]

Backstage before Nitro, Goldberg claimed that he doesn’t think C.W. can connect with fans and that he has little upside. We will see. Paul Orndorff was seen giving Jindrak and O’Haire some psychology tips and teaching Yang some microphone work. So maybe one day he will be able to get the fans to respond, Scott!

During the show, I noticed that “Big Bill” seems to really be growing into his gimmick quickly. Simon Diamond also looked to be improving at his portrayal. I also felt that Jamie Knoble was showing some better brawling, while Norman Smiley, Kaz Hayashi, Sean O’Haire, and Jeremy Borash were showing off some better performance skills.

In the main event, I don’t know if Sting would have complained about dropping the match to best friend Lex Luger, but I still kept him protected. I don’t really think he should be losing to many people without some reason for the loss at this stage of his career; the aura of Sting is a big selling point in WCW still, and keeping that alive could be the difference between fans buying Sting merchandise or fans shilling out for the new Triple H t-shirt.

Speaking of money (and of Triple H) now that it is August, it looks like Kevin Nash is officially gone from WCW. That is a gut punch all of its own. Not as if Kevin was lighting the ring on fire with matches everyone loved, and his days of carrying the company were long gone. But it’s all about the way he did it. He played me like a fiddle, taking advantage of how I wanted to save some money to keep WCW from going under, and he escaped his contract in order to head back to Vince. His disappearance was explained at the very end of the month by a note from his personal physician, claiming that he had suffered some injury. I definitely did not buy it. I think he just wanted to leave without giving a loss to Goldberg. I don’t even know what to think about Scott Hall, because the bitter taste of what Nash did is in my mouth. The star presence that The Outsiders would have given us would have been a shot in the arm. Instead, I am forced to write them off.

The good thing is that losing Nash gives us more money back in our pocket at the end of next month. We lost $575,294 this past month, with my personal check to Shane McMahon for $5,000. We are left with $1,926,904 left in our corporate bank. We may be bleeding less, but we’re still bleeding. Here’s hoping that it won’t be long until we can finally patch those wounds.”

I really enjoyed the Lance Storm/Dusty Rhodes segment. Solidly booked/written for some good heat on Storm, and an appearance by a legend like Dusty is always a great addition to the show.

Thanks! I was pretty fond of how the Dusty/Lance segment came out. I think that it would have played out really well in real life, but instead WCW had already left Storm to midcard hell by the time they brought Dusty back on screen in 2001. I look forward to playing this out, as things are definitely going to spring off of this next week when Dustin returns to Nitro.

I thought this might be fun to share, or boring if you're not interested in the in-game mechanics that are going on, now that we are quite a few months into the game. A look at just how far we've come in terms of finances. I would almost swear something was wrong in the game for that first month, but I dealt with it. Keep in mind that WCW start the New Blood Rises mod with -$1,000,000, and hey, maybe I'm not doing so bad after all?

As you can probably tell (and most of you would likely remember) it was at the beginning of May that I gave WCW a shot in the arm in the form of Shane McMahon's loan. Ever since May, I have gone into the editor and subtracted $5,000 from whatever I have on the first day of the month to allow for "repayment" of the loan. The month of April featured two events on PPV as well as two episodes of Nitro on PPV. The buyrate for Nitro has been pretty consistent ever since it went to PPV, typically about a 0.02 rating. I maybe would have more buyrate on those, but I could only land those deals in the USA and Mexico; other than those, Nitro is shown on commercial networks MTV Europe (UK and British Isles), tv asahi (Japan), and Ten Network Australia. I can't get any coverage in Canada at all, and as for looking into anything new, I'm limited by still being a Cult promotion at this time.

I use a custom merchandise set up, which I feel has actually saved me some money by not producing merch for everyone in the company. Thanks to figurehead Goldberg, I sell 40% more merchandise compared to my output for it.

So yeah, I try not to have Eric Bischoff complain about our debts during my weekly reports... but it is a little difficult to stay upbeat when I've been in the hole technically all year <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> As for how the contracts that are pre-set at the start of the game, I have four of them coming up in about five months. So give or take a few contracts here and there, the finances screen is going to look a lot like this until after Starrcade.

And it took one thing for him to see the way back: his father showing up last week, and being disrespected by some loudmouth punk! Rhodes says that he wants Lance Storm to answer for what he said, and he wants it now! To the top of the aisle comes Storm, who says that if he can be serious for a moment, he only told Dusty Rhodes what someone has needed to tell him for the past five years; to leave, and never come back, so that he gets out of the limelight that should be given to people like Lance Storm, and maybe even to Dustin himself. He says that Dustin has lived in the shadow of his father for so long that he probably doesn’t even know what the sun feels like anymore. Dustin responds that the only shadow he cares about is kicking Storm where the sun don’t shine! Lance calls this “pedestrian threats, as expected,” claiming to have a better solution. He explains that he had a good time telling off “The American Dream” last week, and it made him realize how nice it was to tell off the stupid Americans in the audience. He tells Dustin that if he will agree to it, then he will face him in a match at Wrath that deals with both the Pride and Envy matches from earlier this year. Storm’s victory would erase the stipulation of the Pride match, while Dustin’s (very unlikely) victory would give him his father’s prized cowboy boots back! Rhodes says that he has hated every day that he lost those to an undeserving ass like Lance, and so if he gets his hands on him and gets back his heirloom all at once? That sounds like a deal to him! Both men worked the crowd well here, getting them hot for their upcoming match and starting the show off strongly. (Rating: C-) <hr></details></div></div></blockquote> “Mean” Gene and Jeremy are back in the interview area, with Okerlund hyping that Borash helped him use WCW.com this past weekend in order to view some really great pictures of the ladies of World Championship Wrestling, and urges everyone else to do the same; Jeremy says that he was happy to help, except they were supposed to be writing Gene’s article, not ogling the pictures they found. Gene brushes past him deftly, bringing in their guest at this time, Ernest “The Cat” Miller! Miller shakes his head, telling the duo that they shouldn’t be looking at no damn pictures like that – and shame on Jeremy for getting Gene all worked up! “This man so old, you know one glance from the wrong ho gonna give him a damn heart attack!” Moving on, they ask him why he chose tonight to take on the newly undefeated Goldberg, who just won victory one hundred and sixteen this past weekend. “The Cat” tells them that “It’s time to show that I am the greatest all over again! You microphone stands may not know this, but one-seventeen happens to be my lucky damn number. So it’s gonna be my night, and then everyone’s gonna call me the greatest! Somebody call Goldie’s mama, cause tonight I’ma whoop me some ass!” (Rating: C) Elsewhere backstage, Chris Lovey is standing by in the dressing room with The Future. After last week’s loss to Goldberg in a handicap match, Chavo Guerrero Jr. and Kaz Hayashi are feeling as though they need to get back some momentum. Chavo says that they don’t have a match tonight, but they need to get back on track, so tonight, they’ll find someone and beat them up! (Rating: D+) Elsewhere elsewhere backstage, we see Rey Mysterio Jr. prepping for tonight. Mike Tenay cues us in that Eric Bischoff chose he and Mark Jindrak as the men who will challenge Scott Steiner for the World’s Heavyweight championship, and Rey doesn’t look as though he wants to miss this opportunity. His door opens, and he tenses up, but the camera turns around to see Konnan walking over! “K-Dawg” tells Rey that he knows they may not be home boys anymore, but after they rode together for so long, he will still be pulling for him tonight. The two bump knuckles, and Konnan leaves, Mysterio going back to his stretching. What a heartwarming segment between two men who found themselves on the outs so recently! (Rating: B-) Elsewhere elsewhere elsewhere backstage, we rejoin The Future as it appears they have set their sights. Chavo narrates to the camera that it appears to be two easy marks that they can beat on, thus reaffirming that they are the future of wrestling and they’re unstoppable. As they draw closer, however, the two men that they were looking at stand up and turn around – it’s Kronik! Adams and Clark shout at them, asking them what the hell they think they’re doing in their dressing room?! Chavo and Kaz abort mission immediately, running away as fast as they can! Chavo is heard saying that they’ll find someone else later tonight! (Rating: C) And we come full circle back to the interview area, as Gene and Jeremy now bring in two guests, this time being the members of Totally Buff! Gene asks them how it feels to be the two men qualified for the Wrath match so far, with “The Total Package” saying that it is great to be back in title contention after being on the sidelines of the World title picture for so long. Buff adds that he qualified first, and that should put him in a strong position to finally get that big gold wrapped around his chiselled waist. He starts to pose, showing off that waist, but Luger cuts him off, saying that it would look better around his waist, what with his only 3% body fat. Bagwell says that it isn’t about body fat, it’s what you do with it, and the two start posing in front of one another, each one trying to get the most of the camera’s view; with Gene saying that there’s nothing that wrong with a little body fat, right? Gene really seems out of his element during this segment, but Luger and Bagwell come across well as it looks as though they remain a team… but will these two egos be able to coexist during Wrath? The crowd get hotter during this match as Kanyon’s innovative offense and Clark’s impressive power displays lead a lot of this bout, but it’s the wily veteran who sneaks in and scores a pinfall on Bryan following a flying body press in 9:15 to advance into the Wrath match. (Rating: B-) The match over, “The Nature Boy” picks up a microphone and starts bragging about how seventeen is one of his favorite numbers, and it’ll be his best title win when he takes the title from Scott Steiner next Sunday night, Wooo! That point over though, Flair starts rambling about girls, limos, and champagne until the Steiner Brothers appear at the ramp, Scott telling Flair to shut his old trap up before they break it! They enter the ring and circle “The Nature Boy” as Scott tells him that all the people who qualify for that cage match are just lambs being led to the slaughter, because “Big Poppa Pump” will take whoever is lucky enough to win and make them unlucky that they face him! Scott enjoys his freedom to improvise here as he likens them to how all the freaks in Las Vegas have been constantly fighting for his attention ever since Nitro moved here. He says that maybe they should just send a message to everyone else right now, but out of the crowd comes Sting! He points his black baseball bat at the Steiners, causing them to back down, but when Flair makes a move toward them, Sting points the bat at him as well! It looks like with Wrath approaching, there are no friends, only enemies! (Rating: A* / 99) <hr></details></div></div></blockquote> <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><hr><details><summary>The Problem Solvers vs. Rebel Pride</summary> This match set out to calm the crowd after that segment and let the announcers talk about Wrath. But underneath that discussion, Simon, C.W., Kash, and Knoble put on a solid little match to entertain the viewers which ended with Simon coming in off a blind tag and hitting Kash with a low blow while Rudy Charles’s attention was on C.W., leading to the Simonizer at 4:18 for the one, two, three. (Rating: C-) <hr></details></div></div></blockquote> We head backstage again to find The Future still on the hunt for someone to bounce off of for some momentum. Chavo and Kaz have someone in their sights, and they sneak up from behind on Norman Smiley. But despite that he didn’t see or hear them come in, they look at each other in bewilderment of how to attack a man who is doing a whole lot of Big Wiggle! They make several moves toward him, but he keeps wiggling out of the way. Finally they leave in embarrassment and frustration, with Smiley apparently never even having known they were there. (Rating: D+) <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><hr><details><summary>Challenge of “The Chosen One” Curt Hennig vs. ???</summary> We may never know exactly where or how Jeff Jarrett pulled off this coup, but Curt’s opponent tonight is none other than Bam Bam Bigelow! Everyone seems taken aback, and Hennig never truly gets out of the gates in this one as he is thrown around by a very rejuvenated Bigelow after his long absence. But it appears that Bam Bam didn’t really care about how this match turned out, as he quickly goes outside and grabs a chair, slamming it over Hennig’s back! Charles Robinson calls for the disqualification, awarding the bout to Hennig at 4:45. (Rating: C) As Bigelow leaves, trainers start checking on Hennig. But one of the EMTs in the background is seen going under the ring, and he pulls out a guitar – he smashes it over Curt’s head! The EMT takes off his mask, and it was Jeff Jarrett! The trainers are joined by Doug Dillenger and The WCW Security Team, and they are forcing “The Chosen One” to leave, but Scott Hudson claims that perhaps the damage has been done here tonight to Curt Hennig! (Rating: B) <hr></details></div></div></blockquote> It’s that time, fans; time to head to the greatest team in the history of this sport, The WCW Worldwide Panel! Tony Schiavone says that after our opening segment tonight, he’s found out that Dustin Rhodes and Lance Storm have signed to go one-on-one next Sunday at WCW Wrath in a version of a Flag match, where one side of the ring will stand the boots of Dusty Rhodes and the other side will be a Canadian flag, and the winner gets back the one that he pulls down! The Panel also discuss that Ric Flair has qualified for the Wrath match, joining Lex Luger and Buff Bagwell in those ranks, but it looks as though it doesn’t matter who you are, you shake in your boots when “The Stinger” comes to town with that black baseball bat! Speaking of Sting, Gene notes that he just reported on WCW.com that word has come down from Eric Bischoff; Sting is going to be in the next Wrath qualifying bout, however since he lost to Lex Luger last week, even if he wins, he will enter be forced to enter Wrath first! What a predicament for Sting! It’s time for more action, so the Panel will reconvene later tonight, folks! (Rating: C) <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><hr><details><summary>Disqo vs. AJ Styles</summary> Disqo is a WCW veteran at this point, and his role in the Problem Solvers as Simon’s disciple has given him new purpose in his career. On the other hand, AJ Styles is a hot young prospect who has been making his name in a big way since the start of this year. Their careers both have a lot of upward momentum they want to gain in this match, but it’s another young star in the making who factors into this match as Jimmy Snuka Jr. comes to ringside and starts telling Disqo to send word to Simon that he’s coming for him! This takes Disqo’s mind off the ball, and Styles is able to get him with a springboard forearm smash that wraps this up in 3:27. What a big win for young Styles! (Rating: C-) <hr></details></div></div></blockquote> We go back to The Future for (see what I did there?) more of them walking backstage. They seem to have found another mark, but as they draw closer the man turns around and it’s Kwee Wee! Kwee Wee catches them in the act and starts going off on them, their attitudes, their clothing, their hair, until finally Guerrero and Hayashi can take no more and run away! It looks like they will have to try again later! (Rating: D-) <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><hr><details><summary>Wrath Qualifying Match Chuck Palumbo vs. “The Franchise” Shane Douglas vs. Sting</summary> With the lovely Stacy Kiebler cheering Palumbo on from ringside, the crowd really come alive in this match featuring “The Franchise of WCW” and “The Franchise” along with one of the hottest prospects in wrestling today. Douglas plays the heel here perfectly, constantly meddling between Sting and Chuck before leaving the ring and letting them fight among themselves. But once he is finally caught, the two faces make him pay for his deeds. Palumbo takes him out with the Jungle Kick, but before he can make the pin, Sting grabs Chuck and plants him with the Scorpion Deathdrop! He kicks Douglas out of the ring and makes the cover, apologizing to Palumbo but scoring the three count in 10:41. (Rating: C+) Sting celebrates his win and subsequent re-entry into the Wrath match, though it will be a hard road to climb for him as he will have to enter Wrath first! Stacy enters the ring to tend to Palumbo, but out of the back of the camera’s view comes Shane Douglas! Shane is incensed that he will not be participating in the Wrath match, and he starts taking it out on Chuck! While he stomps on Palumbo’s prone form, Kiebler is telling him to stop it, trying to get him to just leave. But as she yells at him, Douglas turns her around and drills her with the Franchiser! Stacy is down on the mat right next to Palumbo, and Douglas laughs at them! What a heinous human being! (Rating: B-) <hr></details></div></div></blockquote> We find Jimmy Snuka Jr. backstage, looking pretty confident in himself after his actions earlier. He finds some security standing guard at a door. He gets past them, barging into the room, and it turns out to have been the skybox, and we hear the showers running in another room and Simon is standing on his own! Snuka rushes him, attacking quickly with chops! It looks as though he may finally get his skybox back, but a commotion is heard as C.W. comes out of the showers. He is already in his street clothes and he blasts Snuka from behind with a lamp off one of the end tables of the skybox, shattering it into broken pieces! C.W. holds Snuka up for Simon to get a few shots in on him, before Diamond says that if Snuka wants to fight so bad, if the rich boy wants the skybox back so much, then he can find two partners and take on the Problem Solvers at Wrath in a six man tag! With that, he tells C.W. and the security to get him out of here, and we fade out of this segment. (Rating: C-) We go back to a dressing room that the Natural Born Thrillers are in. Stacy is sitting next to Chuck, both of them with their heads down as trainers are still making sure she’s alright. Mark Jindrak is on his feet, preparing for his own triple threat match later tonight. And Sean O’Haire comes into the room, telling Chuck that he did a good job out there, but it’s too bad he didn’t make it through. He says that it’s alright though, they will get some gold around all of their waists soon enough! With Mark’s match later tonight and O’Haire’s qualifying bout next week, he could very well face off with him at Wrath next Sunday! However they get some uninvited guests, as Kronik enter the room. Adams does the talking, as he lets them know that they had a meeting earlier with Commissioner Ernest Miller, and so long as the Thrillers don’t find themselves in the Wrath running, then they will have a match at Wrath: defending the WCW World Tag Team titles against Kronik! Clark assures them that they won’t interfere in their matches to steal that shot – but just know that they are the number one contenders, and the Thrillers won’t be too busy searching for singles gold for long before Kronik come after them! (Rating: B-) The Future are back again, and this time Chavo is looking pretty flustered about this whole thing. Hayashi has already lost interest, but Guerrero is pushing him forward with the mission. Chavo says that he did some looking around, and he thinks they’ve found someone to take down. Chavo leads Kaz along a corridor, and they find… Low-Ki! They go to attack, but Ki turns around and sees them coming. He quickly retaliates with a series of kicks to each of their midsections, and with one final blow, he knocks one into the other with a thrust kick! Chavo finally yells “Screw this, holmes!” and they run away as Low-Ki prepares with a few shadow boxing style kicks into the air. It looks like The Future aren’t getting what they were after tonight! (Rating: D) <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><hr><details><summary>“Da Man” Goldberg vs. Ernest “The Cat” Miller</summary> The biggest takeaway from this match is that “The Cat” needs to re-evaluate what his lucky number is, as it was most certainly not 117. The crowd are left buzzing after this high profile match. He makes a decent showing for a few moments, but Goldberg shines here, we all knew he was never in any danger as he polishes this off with the Spear and Jackhammer at 3:58. (Rating: C-) The night must be young however, as once Goldberg gets through the curtain, Mike Tenay says that we need a camera backstage, fast! We head backstage, and Bam Bam Bigelow is standing over Goldberg holding a steel chair! Bigelow lays into “Da Man” as he says that he’ll see him at Wrath! Goldberg looked excellent here, staggering back up to his feet once Bigelow was gone and telling him that he’s next! It was apparent that Mark and Rey felt they could work together to take out Steiner before concentrating on one another, and they did so with some very remarkable displays of athleticism and lucha libre style high flying which got the crowd buzzing. “Big Poppa Pump” was definitely on the backfoot for a solid chuck of this bout, but there were a lot of times when he came back and fought off both of them simultaneously. Steiner is far bigger than Mysterio and has years of experience over Jindrak, and both of those things came to the forefront at segments. A beautiful dropkick from Jindrak looked to almost score a knockout blow on Steiner, but when Mysterio was to finish him off and write Scott out of the match, that was when the lights go out in the arena! When they come back on, Rey is laid out on the floor, bathed in “red liquid” with Vampiro standing over him! But without having seen interference, Nick Patrick cannot call for the bell; however it gives Steiner a moment to regain his bearings, and he hits a big spinning belly to belly suplex on Jindrak before locking in the Steiner Recliner to subdue this threat and retain the title at 7:22. As much as I hate to admit it because I couldn’t stand the guy, Miller is pretty entertaining on the mic. Nice to see Bam Bam looking strong too, especially since it gives Goldberg someone to brawl with until he racks up enough wins to get a crack at Steiners belt, who I still think will hold the title until Goldberg beats him.....Starrcade?

The Week That Was: August 2001, Week 1

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s First Union Center is being turned into a war zone when RAW is WAR rolls into town! The sold out arena saw one of the biggest episodes in the show’s history!

There were two common threads throughout this edition, one dealing with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. The WWF champion opened the show talking about how he plans on decimating everyone in the Elimination Chamber, but also talking about Philadelphia’s history with Extreme Championship Wrestling recently going out of business. His verdict? “That was a long time coming, son, because ECW absolutely sucked!” He makes a challenge that if any former ECW stars want to compete for a real championship, he’ll meet them in the main event tonight!

The second recurring angle dealt with Mr. McMahon, as he entered the ring and talked about how he feels that he may have had a breakthrough. He was looking at some old family pictures from the Philadelphia Spectrum and has felt a change of heart, and he wants to meet his son Shane in the ring later tonight.

“Stone Cold” seemed to have some tactics in his back pocket, as during a match between ECW alumni Al Snow and the enforcer of X-Factor, Albert, Austin tripped up Snow and cost him the bout. The champion followed this by drilling Snow with a steel chair before leaving him laying with the Stunner. Backstage, another of ECW’s big names was being attacked by Austin in Raven, who likely wouldn’t have even come out for the challenge after his words on SmackDown!, but “Stone Cold” wasn’t taking chances. Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit talked in an interview that they didn’t share Austin’s hatred toward ECW because it helped make their careers, but that led to them getting viciously attacked backstage by Austin and Angle!

In a bit of a side story, Rob Van Dam, someone who got a huge cheer for his entrance, said that he didn’t care about what Austin was doing because he was more concerned with Jeff Hardy taking away the Hardcore title. He made his presence felt during Jeff Hardy’s Hardcore title defense against Justin Credible, Austin giving Credible the Stunner while Hardy was down. Of all people, The Brooklyn Brawler hit the ring to try and win the Hardcore title under the 24/7 rule, but RVD attacked him and kept the title on Hardy, thus making sure that he would still get his ladder match for the championship at Summerslam.

Not everyone suffered the same fate from “Stone Cold” however; Austin dressed the Dudley Boyz down, with them admitting that working for ECW was nothing compared to working now for Mr. McMahon. And Austin decided that Rhyno was “a good, fine, upstanding citizen” after seeing him destroying a soda machine. However one person who made a pre-emptive strike on the champion was Spike Dudley, who rushed Austin in his dressing room! But the size difference between the two was bigger than the difference in size of their hearts, and Austin left Spike down after a hit from the WWF title. When the time came, Austin called upon ECW’s faithful to bring him a challenger, with him even saying that they could have a Hardcore match so it’s more like ECW was – with Jim Ross saying that he’s already beaten them all down, no one is left! But there was one left…

It’s Tazz! He comes out and accepts the challenge!

The match ends up leaving most rabid ECW fans rather deflated however, as Tazz is rushed by the champion and never really gets out of the blocks. He nearly comes back and gets Austin in the Tazzmission, but Austin rolls out of it and hits the Stunner to retain the championship.

As for Mr. McMahon, even Stephanie seemed apprehensive about him meeting with Shane. He assured her that everything would be just fine for their family, and Shane himself was also very apprehensive, but he decided that any olive branch was what their dysfunctional family needs. Following the main event, Mr. McMahon approached the ring and called out to his son, who met with him. Vince talked of times in the past when he had been grooming Shane to take over the WWF after he dies, talked of times they had worked together in the Corporation, and also times that he was a wide eyed boy who was the apple of his father’s eye. Vince offers a handshake and a hug, which Shane isn’t sure of, but he takes it – but a massive hand grabs him from behind and drills Shane into the mat with a chokeslam… it’s The Undertaker! Undertaker viciously assaults Shane by picking him up and hitting him with The Last Ride, before turning to Vince… and shaking his hand! Vince says that he wishes he could erase all those so-called “good memories” from his mind forever because as far as he’s concerned, Shane is no son of his! Why would The Undertaker do this?! And just how heartless IS Mr. McMahon?!

Also from RAW: After Edge poked fun at Pittsburgh’s sports teams, he defeated Scotty 2 Hotty to retain the European title; The Island Tribe defeated The Acolytes; Chris Jericho is seen getting medical attention after the attack by Austin when Rhyno rushes and hits him with the Gore, telling him he’ll see him on SmackDown!, William Regal doesn’t want to be in Philadelphia, so he urges Spike Dudley to forfeit their match, but Spike refuses; William Regal retains the Intercontinental title over Spike Dudley when he passes out in the Regal Stretch; Regal and Edge pass by one another, the champions having a tense staredown after some of the things Edge has said lately; The Big Show defeated Kurt Angle by count out when Chris Benoit chases Angle out of the arena.

The MCI Center is about to heat up as it is time for WWF SmackDown!

The Undertaker opens the show explaining his actions on RAW is WAR. He says that he is tired of feeling disrespected around here, claiming that he is the big dog in this yard and that anyone who disrespects him from now on, he will make them famous! After that, Michael Cole and Tazz have a carrot to dangle for viewers at home, as later tonight, Linda McMahon says she has an announcement that will shake up the entire foundation of the World Wrestling Federation!

The Elimination Chamber’s participants are on hand as The Big Show, Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, and Triple H were all in action. “Stone Cold” was here as well, as he and Debra tell Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley that she needs to get her husband on a short leash before Austin faces off with him and puts him out of wrestling permanently! Stephanie keeps trying to explain why she’s stayed out of it, but Austin keeps giving her a barrage of “What? What? What?” constantly cutting her off, until she finally walks away in frustration.

Triple H talked about his opponent tonight, Rikishi, saying that it was only a few short months ago that he and Rikishi were helping one another to take out Steve Austin, and now Rikishi is Mr. McMahon’s pet dog trying to take him out. Hunter defeated Rikishi pretty handily, before having a confrontation with Austin in the ring, with “Stone Cold” telling him that maybe what they need is one final time working together, at Summerslam. Get rid of the other four jackasses, and then they can see who the better man is. Triple H doesn’t give him an answer, but he does seem intrigued by the idea!

Kurt Angle talks on his way to the ring that Chris Benoit is some Canadian wannabe who doesn’t have any gold medals, and that he should be watching tonight to see a look into his future when the two do battle again. Meanwhile, opponent Jeff Hardy is all about wanting to knock Rob Van Dam down a peg. The match between Angle and Hardy saw RVD cause a distraction, as he claimed he could pin Hardy and take the Hardcore title tonight, leading to Angle locking Jeff in the ankle lock and scoring the victory. Feeling embarrassed by Jeff’s performance in the match, Angle worked together with Van Dam to attack Hardy, but Chris Benoit came out to make the save! This led to an announcement of a tag team match to come on RAW is WAR pitting Angle and RVD against Benoit and Hardy!

Trish Stratus is seen at WWF New York, where she reminds Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley that Summerslam is coming very soon, and she hopes that Stephanie can square away her family drama – because she doesn’t want her making excuses when Trish gets her in the ring.

Sparks almost flew when “Stone Cold” met up with The Undertaker near Mr. McMahon’s dressing room, as the two men have been constantly enemies but find themselves with a common companion now. Undertaker still plans to hold the WWF championship sooner than later, while Austin tells him to try it and get dropped; Mr. McMahon has to separate the two, telling them that while they are both on his side, they are a part of two separate plans of his, so they can table this debate and deal with it later.

Chris Jericho comes out for the main event, talking about how he will put Rhyno behind him to concentrate on the Elimination Chamber, but Rhyno attacks him from behind! The match is violent and brutal, with Jericho showing sides of himself that the WWF fans have rarely seen from him. Steve Austin makes a deciding factor in this one by attacking Jericho with a chair, which leads to the Gore! It’s a shocker, Rhyno defeats Chris Jericho! After that, however, it becomes a wild six man fight as the other members of the Elimination Chamber join the ringside area. Everyone starts hitting their biggest moves on people, with a short moment when Triple H and Steve Austin go nose-to-nose before turning and taking out Jericho and Benoit. But the segment comes to a close when Big Show grabs the former Power Trip team and delivers both of them a double chokeslam! The Big Show stands tall, will he do so again at Summerslam?!

Finally as the show is coming to a close, we come to Linda McMahon’s announcement. She says that the ending of RAW is WAR showed her that her estranged husband and their son obviously cannot bury the hatchet, and so she, as a deciding member of the WWF, has decided to step in. She announces that at the beginning of September, the World Wrestling Federation will institute the very first Draft Lottery, which will split the entire roster into Raw and SmackDown!, with Vince and Shane McMahon taking control of one of those sides! To determine who gets which brand, there will be a tag team match at Summerslam between the two, as Vince McMahon teams with The Undertaker to take on Shane McMahon, and, if he will so accept the match when he returns to the WWF this Monday……. The Rock!

Raven’s sour mood meets his match with the perpetual cheerfulness of Diamond Dallas Page, with Page getting a victory over Raven with the Diamond Cutter, which Cole said was “Vintage DDP!” Finally, William Regal was in WWF New York for Heat, and when asked about Edge, he said that it sounds as though the young man is getting a little too big for his trousers. He claims to not hold anything against him for thinking himself a big deal, but William plans to hold the Intercontinental title with more pride than anyone possibly can – including Edge!

All due to the McMahons, I’ll be honest… an out-in-the-open brand split isn’t a horrible idea. That seems to start making some sense as for a lot of the former ECW signings that they’ve been hiding in HWA and OVW such as Nova, Little Guido, York and Matthews, Chris Chetti, and Tommy Dreamer. Guys who they can call up to the roster as soon as the split happens in order to bolster the rosters. What didn’t work out so well for them was how big Vince’s ego was on display this past week. On Raw, they went all in to make sure and tell people that ECW sucked and was second rate by having Steve Austin run roughshod over anyone who had a name there. They also tried to throw some potshots toward us, mostly through commentators who talked about how the Elimination Chamber was Vince’s biggest and best idea ever and that anything else was second class. I don’t hold a lot of ill will toward Jim Ross, Michael Cole, Paul Heyman, or Tazz – at least no more than anyone else might – as they are just doing their jobs. However, this is getting a little ridiculous to lie so much on air. Fans may be believing it, as the internet went above and beyond on calling out the WWF for a lot of their remarks. It turns out TNN also weren’t very happy with how Raw turned out as they spent so much time criticizing other companies that they forgot to put on a quality show. During SmackDown, Austin and Undertaker both coined some new catchphrases, and Michael Cole came off with a new phrase that may catch on but if he uses it too much it’ll likely become annoying.

X-Pac’s return during SmackDown comes as he is now back from rehab, but the bigger problem for us is the imminent return of The Rock. While Rock was away filming Scorpion King, we probably would have started to gain our footing back once we go national again. But with The Rock back in the WWF actively, there’s no way we can hold up against them. But we aren’t about to give up just yet. I inked a deal to start showing some of our events on Sky Sports 3, working on getting WCW’s name into the British Isles on the subscription network.

At Nitro, I fed Tony Schiavone a few quips about the WWF, namely that “The competition isn’t in your own backyard, it’s right here,” and fans seemed to really gravitate towards that. Backstage, Midajah and Paisley bonded over one of those generic boy bands that we based 3 Count off of. Paul Orndorff was teaching his proteges again, telling Yang some tips on being face and O’Haire and Jindrak learning to be better heels; I guess the three are working on shoring up their faults if I decide to turn them. Ernest Miller picked up a minor hip injury during his match with Goldberg, but he’ll be healed up by next week’s episode. Scott Steiner left Yang alone and instead let me know that he feels “That other yella kid (Kaz Hayashi) ain’t gettin’ no freaks, so send him back across the Specific Ocean on the tuna boat he rode in on!” Light racism aside, at least Goldberg was more cordial when he said that he wasn’t sure if C.W. was going to connect with fans and felt he doesn’t have much of an upside compared to the screen time I’ve been giving him. On the show itself, I noticed Curt Hennig has been improving his performance with a few small touches to his ring psychology, which is impressive for someone of his age to be doing. Chris Lovey also is showing more charisma during his interviews. And Low Ki and Lance Storm seem to be getting better at their gimmicks.

As a last tidbit for this week, I saw on a wrestling news website that Scott Hall has started to look a little more average than toned; maybe I’m actually better off that he and Kevin screwed me over if he’s going to start going downhill? Apparently Shane Douglas’s former ECW valet Francine has started dating former WCW luchador Villano IV while the two have been working in CMLL. And Don Muraco, Butch Miller, Jimmy Golden, and Terry Gordy have all had their final dates as active workers, with Larry Hennig setting himself up to leave the business in a month’s time.

We are one week closer to Wrath, which is coming up on Sunday. Our card is almost finalized, so one more Nitro should wrap things up as we move into the Wrath match!

Really good show, Wrath is shaping up nicely
As much as I hate to admit it because I couldn’t stand the guy, Miller is pretty entertaining on the mic.

Thanks man! Yeah I'm not really huge on Miller, but he really did show up as one of the more entertaining acts of 2001 WCW, right along with Hugh Morrus, which is why I have really tried to keep the two of them relevant here while it would be really easy to just job them down the card and out of the company.

Also, thanks to everyone who has put a vote in for me in LDOTM! I know I may not be the most consistent writer anymore and probably will never be again, but I am glad to know that I have some of the most consistent readers. I hope to see if the WWF developments can also grab your attentions, because even though this is first and foremost a WCW diary, I'm kinda proud of what I've done in an invasion-less WWF as well!

PPV Rating: 0.02 TV Rating: 2.38</div> The show opens in the aisleway as “Mean” Gene and Jeremy Borash stand by. The two talk about how there are a lot of things going on ahead of WCW Wrath this Sunday, but one of the newest big developments has been what happened last week between Goldberg and their guest at this time, Bam Bam Bigelow! They compare watching Bigelow assault Goldberg to the Planet of the Apes when one violent ape goes after another; which, admittedly, isn’t in that film, but Scott Hudson says that Gene hasn’t seen an ape since the last time he looked in the mirror. “The Beast From The East” comes to the aisle to a chorus of boos as Gene asks him the big question; what is he doing by targeting Goldberg now, when any other time he’s done so in the past has been met with failure? Bigelow responds that yeah, he might have not beaten Goldberg in the past, but those times didn’t have such high stakes. “Goldberg’s career wasn’t on the line the last times I fought him, but it is now. That means everything is different. I don’t care what I have to do to the man – and that’s all he is compared to me, is a regular man – but whether I have to do it by defeating him or hurting him, I will be the man who puts Goldberg out of pro wrestling!” Bigelow isn’t the greatest interview, but this still got the crowd hotter and started the show off strong, despite Gene and Jeremy not really holding up their end of the segment. (Rating: C+) Mike, Scott, and Arn talk about the show that we have lined up tonight which will feature the final two qualifying matches for the Wrath match as well as another mystery opponent for Curt Hennig lined up by Jeff Jarrett. Mike says that he has word that “The Franchise” Shane Douglas has commandeered a cameraman and is demanding a feed, and apparently the production truck is going to give him a few moments. We cut backstage to Douglas as he says that the eyes of the world are on “The Franchise” as they always should be, but somehow he’s the villain of the story. He says that Booker T is a true villain, because at least when “The Franchise” does horrible things and ruins people’s lives, he does it out in the open and not in private. But Shane has discovered Booker’s private evils, and he will reveal them to the public live in the ring tonight unless certain demands of his are met! We cut back to commentary, who don’t know what that is all about, but we will find out later tonight just what this information may be! (Rating: B-) “Also Sprach Zarathrusta” brings the fans to their feet as “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair power walks down to the ring, clearly with something on his mind. Still frames are shown from last week where Sting turned his bat toward “The Nature Boy” and Scott Hudson wonders if that may be what’s weighing heavily on his mind. Husdon remarks that it was as surprising an ending to a show as the end of The Princess Diaries, which hit cinemas last Friday; when Mike asks him what was so surprising, Scott answers that the surprise was when he found out he was at Princess Diaries instead of Rush Hour 2. Flair takes some time to talk about how grateful he is to be in the only wrestling company that matters enough to be only on pay-per-view, World Championship Wrestling! And he can’t wait to be a part of the original, the originator, the Wrath match, where he will win and go on to take the World’s Heavyweight championship from Scott Steiner! “The only chamber that matters is ‘The Nature Boy’s’ bed chamber, where he will eliminate everyone until getting the perfect ten! Woooo!” As Flair starts to turn his attention toward Sting and how he certainly doesn’t appreciate a bat pointed in his face, the promo goes awry as The Steiner Brothers come to the ring. As Scott bluntly says, “Cut the crap Flair, nobody wants to hear you flippin’ yer gums about beds, chambers, or how the WWF announced a match three days before Eric Bitchoff did!” “Big Poppa Pump” enters the ring and tells Flair that it doesn’t matter who wins on any Sunday, the headline at the end of the night is gonna read that “Freakzilla” walked into town, showed off his peaks, beat the hell out of everyone in his way, slept with all the best freaks, and left town still as the WCW champion. “You think it can be your night, because you beat me what, by disqualification? Like that means you can get my shoulders to the mat? ‘Big Poppa Pump’s’ got shoulder bigger’n your scrawny waist, and that’s nothin’ compared to my-” Rick cuts him off, but Flair uses that time to point out that Steiner can talk all he wants, but that disqualification win means that Scott hasn’t defeated “The Nature Boy,” “and that means for all your talk and bragging, you ain’t beat The Man yet, brother!” Steiner snarls, and with a cry of “I ain’t beat the man? Well how about I just beat yer wrinkled old ass right now?!” he and Rick start circling Flair! Ric, to his credit, doesn’t back down an inch, putting up his fists and telling them to come on! But they don’t have to, as the thunder and lightning breaks out over the arena and Sting marches down the aisle! Tenay questions who’s side Sting may be on here, with Anderson answering that if this goes anything like last week, it’s his own. “The Stinger” enters the ring and stands between Flair and the Steiners, keeping an eye on everyone and keeping his black baseball bat at the ready. He gets a microphone and says “Riddle me this, riddle me that, it looks like everyone is afraid of the big black bat!” Scott, of course, screams that he ain’t afraid, he’ll shove that bat up his ass and break it off! But Sting is vigilant, saying that last week was a warning, that once they enter Wrath, there will be no friends; only men standing between Sting and the World title. All the moments he and Flair, he and Lex have shared over the years, they won’t matter anymore, because it will be all about Sting trying to win his eighth World title, just like it’ll be all about Flair winning his seventeenth, all about Luger winning his third, or Buff or whoever else trying to win their first. He calls Wrath an appropriate name, because by the end of the night, they’re all going to sin, and it’ll all be about who can still look in the mirror the next morning. The Steiners butt in, Scott telling Sting that nobody cares about him waxing poetic out here, “like yer’ some kinda Sigmund Fraud,” he tells Sting that he gave up his chance to walk away last week when he took advantage of Midajah giving Scott a love tap, so now he’s gonna be forced away again, because Scott wants him in the ring, tonight! <div style="text-align:center;"><iframe width="220" height="180" src="<a href="https://www.youtube.com/embed/X11bUBv3JKU" rel="external nofollow">https://www.youtube.com/embed/X11bUBv3JKU"</a> frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe></div> “The Cat” comes to the stage, telling everybody to just shut the hell up already! We’ll have a tag match!” Scott is quick to point out that he can’t have a tag team match, as Rick is in his qualifying match for Wrath tonight. “Don’t you think I didn’t know that, big booty dummy? Keep yer head chain on, I was just gettin’ to that. Since y’all got started cause Sting got screwed over against Lame-o Lex Luger the other night, then you gonna team up with him. Rub you two together and ya both got about ten percent of body fat and just as much brain juice between ya, so that should be good. And since Sting out here wavin’ his black thing around, he ain’t got nobody to call partner. Well, I know something about wavin’ a big black thing around, it’s my black belts cause I’m the three time karate worl’ champion! I ain’t scared’a y’all, so I’ll be Sting’s partner tonight!” “Whoa!” screams Scott Hudson, as Scott Steiner smiles, saying that sounds good; he’s gonna beat Sting’s ass so bad he gets put out of Wrath, and beat Miller’s ass so bad that he gets put out of being commissioner, all in one match! Everyone improvised in this (except Rick, who wasn’t given speaking lines) and while Flair, Steiner, and Miller all did exceptionally well on the live mic, Sting didn’t fare as well. But Ernest performed poorly (I guess people would have preferred Eric separating them?) while Flair’s performance was fantastic and Scott came out of this looking excellent. The crowd are definitely hotter after the announcement of our main event! (Rating: A* /97) <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><hr><details><summary>The Future vs. Low Ki and AJ Styles</summary> After The Future’s antics last week, Low Ki apparently requested this bout against them. Being forced to have a partner for the bout, young AJ Styles volunteered for the match, still looking for that big victory that will put him over the top in the fans’ eyes. The match was full of high flying, hard hitting action as all four men laid it all on the line to pick up the victory. Guerrero gloated just a few seconds too long after hitting his Brainbuster on Low Ki, and when he went for the pin, Ki delivered a hard kick to Chavo’s face, dazing him long enough to wrap him up in the Dragon Clutch and score a submission victory at 5:50. (Rating: B-) <hr></details></div></div></blockquote> After we cut to the commentators, Lance Storm’s theme brings the competitor to the ring. He doesn’t have a match tonight, as Mike Tenay points out, so they aren’t sure why he decided to come to the ring, but he takes a microphone from David Penzer and tells everyone that he would like to be serious for a few minutes. Storm says that after this Sunday at Wrath, the American fans had better prepare their nerves because he is going to start telling them the truth about them again. “Dustin and Dusty Rhodes are the best fit to extract this prize from, because as the so-called ‘Common Man’ they are the perfect vessel for you people for me to defeat. And when I pull that flag down, I will prove that the American dream, both the one you people all clamor to and the legacy of the Rhodes family, is dead! And when I step foot in this ring next week on Nitro, I will have four things with me. One; an American flag. Two; the prized cowboy boots of Dusty Rhodes. Three; gasoline. And four; a lighter, which I will use to make all your hopes and dreams go up in flames!” Storm really seemed to enjoy the freedom to be off-script here, getting the crowd worked into a patriotic frenzy. Will he get what he wants? You’ll have to watch WCW Wrath to find out! (Rating: C) <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><hr><details><summary>Wrath Qualifying Match Brian Adams vs. “K-Dawg” Konnan vs. “The Road Warrior” Animal</summary> A crazy brawl breaks out in this match as they try to enter the Wrath match. Konnan nearly scores the victory over Adams with the Tequila Sunrise, but Animal breaks it up. He pulls Brian back to his feet and hits a big powerslam in order to score the pinfall and punch his ticket to Wrath at 6:02 in a match that was hampered by a lack of selling. (Rating: C+)<hr></details></div></div></blockquote> “Mean” Gene and Jeremy are standing back in the interview area, Gene hyping that those who check out his article on WCW.com will read all about what legendary wrestler and trainer has left his career behind earlier this week. Gene then brings in their guest at this time, the son of the legendary “Superfly,” Jimmy Snuka Jr.! Gene asks him if he has found some partners to take on the Problem Solvers this Sunday at Wrath. Snuka answers that he wasn’t really sure who to choose, but last week he saw an injustice take place at the hands of Simon and his cronies, and that gave him an idea. That idea has led him to find two guys who would like to get some comeuppance, and that’s Rebel Pride! Kid Kash and Jamie Knoble step forward, with Kash saying that he’s known slimy Simon for a while now, and he isn’t about to let him get away with this. Knoble says that he’s gonna ride into Wrath and hook the Problem Solvers up to the back of his truck and show them how they get down in the trailer park! Snuka says that he may not have much personally in common with his partners, but they share one thing: they are gonna solve the Problem Solvers! (Rating: C-) <hr></details></div></div></blockquote> We head backstage following the match to find Rick and Scott Steiner patrolling the area. Scott is heard saying “She’s around here somewhere, we gotta get our shit together” when they look down the hallway and spot Midajah. Scott yells at her, telling her to get over here. She says that she was just here talking to Lex, with “The Total Package” Lex Luger coming into frame. Scott tells her that he was just about to go find Luger, all she shoulda been doing is polishing “Big Poppa Pump’s” pipe in the damn dressing room! He tells her to quit wasting time, and tells Lex that he’ll see him in the main event, and he better not blow this one! (Rating: B-) <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><hr><details><summary>Challenge of “The Chosen One” Curt Hennig vs. ???</summary> Hennig’s opponent this week turns out to be “Primetime” Elix Skipper, who has been trying to find his footing ever since the end of The World. This match really gets the crowd buzzing with some solid action. He gives the veteran his all in this one, but Curt is able to ground Skipper’s flying game and score the pinfall with the Hennig-Plex in 5:55. In shades of last week, “The Chosen One” Jeff Jarrett sneaks into the ring after the match, but this time Hennig was ready for it! The two have a tense staredown as Jarrett leaves the ring, not wanting a head to head battle when all he came for was an attack from behind. Which one of these talented stars will pick up the victory at Wrath? (Rating: B-)<hr></details></div></div></blockquote> It’s that time, when we head back to The WCW Worldwide Panel! Rather than just talking about the show, however, they have a special guest who has a few words to share: “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes! Dusty thanks them for the outlet, saying that he cannot wait for Wrath to see Dustin gettin’ funky like a monkey all up on that loudmouth Canadian, Lance Storm! When Chris asks him about what Storm threatened to do next week if he wins on Sunday, Dusty gets very serious and says that there’s no way he or Dustin will let that happen – this is America, jack, and while we’ll respect your freedom of speech, we have the freedom to punch ya in the mouth! Dusty got the crowd hotter here. (Rating: C-) The knockoff of “Perfect Strangers” brings out “The Franchise” Shane Douglas, who gets a microphone and tells them to cut his music. Shane struggles with the live microphone though as he starts off by repeating himself from earlier. He talks about how everyone calls him the ultimate bad guy (they actually don’t) but he has nothing on what Booker T has been doing over the past year! Booker T comes out from the back, saying that he isn’t sure what dirt Shane thinks he’s pulled up on him, but it don’t matter; if he wanted a title match, all he had to do was get a time and place and they’d throw down! But since he wants to try and make it personal, then he won’t just get a fighting champion coming after him; he’ll have a man take him on, a man who ain’t gonna let Shane run his good name through the mud! Speaking of things getting personal, the two are joined by Chuck Palumbo and Stacy Kiebler. Palumbo tells Booker that he respects him as a man and a champion, but after last week, the only one who’s gonna give Douglas some wrath this Sunday is gonna be him! He laid his hands on his girlfriend, and he’s not going to let him get away with that! Shane tells Palumbo that he has to wait in line, because if he doesn’t get a US title match, he’ll tell everyone what he knows about Booker. Miller doesn’t do well with the live microphone on this one either, telling Douglas that if he don’t keep his hands off women, Ernest will personally make him a little bitch! But let’s just give everybody what they want here; “The Cat” says that at Wrath, the United States title will be on the line as Booker T defends against Shane Douglas AND Chuck Palumbo in a triple threat match! Miller underperformed again (he needs to either get more over or we will need to find a new authority figure) but Booker’s performance was good. Another big match is made for Wrath! (Rating: B) Jeremy Borash is on his own in the interview area, thanking “Mean” Gene for giving him this opportunity to deliver a big scoop on his own. His guest right now is Madusa, with Jeremy asking her about her search for a new client. Madusa says that she does have her eyes on someone special, but she isn’t going to reveal her cards to Borash. She tells him that he will find out who it is the same time anyone else does, this Sunday at Wrath! Jeremy is a little disappointed, but thanks her for her time and can’t wait to find out. (Rating: D) She leaves Jeremy’s side, but before the cameras stop rolling, Borash is pushed up against the wall by Big Bill! Bill grabs him by his lapels and says that if he wants a scoop, then how about this: Big Bill will be at Wrath, and if he doesn’t have any better opponent, then he’s gonna drag Borash’s sorry carcass to the ring and have a match with him! This gets broken up by an unlukely source, as Konnan steps in and tells Bill to step off! “K-Dawg” tells Bill that he’s been watching him spout off for the past few weeks, and he don’t care what his name is because he’s just being a pandejo! Bill loses his cool (what little cool he had to begin with) and tells Konnan to put his money where his mouth is and Bill will break him in half and ship him back to Mexico in a tortilla! Jeremy didn’t come out of this segment looking good, but Bill’s raging performance was fantastic. It looks like another match for Wrath! (Rating: C-) <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><hr><details><summary>Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Screamin’ Norman Smiley</summary> A very short match as Norman spends most of it trying to run away. Bigelow catches him handily and just decimates him with a powerbomb, before going to the top rope and coming down with a diving headbutt that scores the win in 2:07. He is visibly still sore after last week, but he’s here and he is trading blows with his attacker! Finally, Doug Dillinger and The WCW Security Team rush the area to try pulling them apart. Bigelow comes off as very underwhelming here, but Goldberg looks like a real star as the two try to get to one another. These two men may very well rip one another apart at Wrath! (A* / 97)<hr></details></div></div></blockquote> As things are calming down, Mike Tenay says that he hears there is also a small commotion backstage that we have a camera heading to check out. When we go to that footage, it looks like Totally Buff are in the middle of a conversation. But as the audio comes into focus, it doesn’t seem to be a good discussion as Buff proclaims “This is bullcrap, Lex!” Bagwell doesn’t seem to be very happy that while the two of them haven’t teamed in weeks, all of a sudden tonight he’s teaming with Scott Steiner? While Buff was stuck facing one of the little dancing boys? Luger shrugs and says he didn’t have anything in the decision, but he’s going to make the most of it. “The Total Package” says this is a big shot for both of them, but Bagwell isn’t having it. He tells Luger that he isn’t helping him tonight, and he better not count on him at Wrath either, because it’s all about the winner. As Bagwell storms off, Luger says that he wouldn’t have it any other way. All three men want in the final slot of the bout, but only one can take it. Rick has quite a few chances to take the match home using his veteran advantages, but in the end he gets knocked down to the mat and O’Haire drills him with the Seanton Bomb! Sean is ready to punch his card for Wrath, but Awesome Splash breaks up the pin! Mike pulls O’Haire off the mat and hits him with a running Awesome Bomb and holds down the shoulders and in what is likely a surprising result, Mike Awesome gets the pin at 14:23 and the final space in the Wrath match! (Rating: B) After the match is over, we go backstage to the dressing room of the Natural Born Thrillers. They had clearly been ready to celebrate O’Haire’s victory when he got back, but now it’s a somber sight. Chris Lovey is in the room to get some words from them, but just as O’Haire reaches the dressing room, apologizing for failing them and not winning the match, the room gets a little more crowded as the large frames of Kronik barge in! Adams and Clark tell O’Haire not to feel too bad, because they didn’t get into the bout either; but it’s not as if they can’t get a match on the card, because with the four of them out of Wrath, it looks like they are free to defend the World Tag Team titles against Kronik! O’Haire and Jindrak agree to it, and it looks like a respectful room right now, but it definitely will not be so respectful when these two teams clash this Sunday! (Rating: C+)<hr></details></div></div></blockquote> <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43111" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><hr><details><summary>Sting and “The Cat” Ernest Miller vs. “Big Poppa Pump” Scott Steiner and “The Total Package” Lex Luger</summary> It’s main event time, and this blockbuster tag team match is just what you would expect from Friday Nitro! All four men are working at their best capacity, but Sting is left stranded on the ring apron when “The Cat” gets caught with one of Steiner’s patented belly to belly suplexes. Luger and Steiner’s power game is unrivaled and the two almost seem to be showing off to one another rather than trying to put the commissioner away. Steiner especially looks excellent in this match, like a true dominant champion. But “The Cat” fights back, getting out of a lax gorilla press slam attempt by Scott and hitting the champion with a jaw rattling martial arts kick! He makes his way over and gets the hot tag to “The Stinger” who cleans house on both Steiner and Luger with alternating chops and punches! Midajah hops up on the ring apron to distract Nick Patrick while kicking the lead pipe into the ring, which Luger picks up. He swings it toward Sting – but Sting dodges, and it nails Steiner instead! Miller comes in and hits Luger with a big swinging kick, taking him out of action, and Sting grabs Steiner to drop him to the mat with the Scorpion Death Drop, going for the cover and getting a big win ahead of Wrath at 8:44! Sting just pinned the World champion, and if he can withstand five other men and do this again on Sunday, he will be the new champion! As Sting and “The Cat” leave, celebrating their win, Steiner starts coming to again, and – as per his usual – he is very hot under the collar! He holds up the pipe that was his downfall, but his rage doesn’t seem directed solely at Luger, it’s toward Midajah! He is an incoherent, spitting, drooling mess as he starts chewing her out with obscenities that I can’t share here! It’s a good thing he isn’t on the microphone! It must be said though that as a fountain of rage, he definitely comes across well. As Midajah cowers from this verbal assault, it nearly becomes a physical assault, until “The Total Package” steps in! He tells Scott to cool down, but when has that ever worked with Scott Steiner? But size-wise, Luger more than can match up to him, so this is a standoff, all over Midajah! As a shoving match begins to break out, commentary wonder if it will be these two who face off for the World title at Wrath? Or will it be any of the other world class competitors? Always felt like they were incredible midcard comedy acts who, if turned serious, could make a nice run toward the top as sneaky, obnoxious heels. Triple threat matches are often a good way to get a title off a Champion without having that Champion actually lose. That being said, I see Booker retaining here

I always liked KroniK, but O'Haire and Jindrak are younger and have more upside

Curt Hennig vs. “The Chosen One” Jeff Jarrett

This should be an all around solid matchup here and while I could see Double J stealing a cheap win here, I think Hennig picks up the big victory here

“The Prodigal Son” Dustin Rhodes vs. Lance Storm

If Dustin Rhodes wins, he gets back his father’s prized boots; if Lance Storm wins, he can badmouth America again!

Both men have considerable upside at this point, but I'm going with Storm in this one

Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Vampiro

My instinct is telling me to go with Rey here, but at the same time Rey could lose to Vampiro here and not really be any worse for wear, which is what I'm gonna go with

WCW World Heavyweight Championship

No way is Steiner losing to someone who’s already wrestled in a caged heat match.....the fact that it’s his opponents (Sting) second match of the evening gives them a viable excuse for the loss without looking bad, I’d be perfectly happy to see Scotty walk into Starrcade still as the champion....of course, walking out is a different matter

Wrath

Sting vs. “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair vs. Buff “The Stuff” Bagwell vs. “The Road Warrior” Animal vs. Mike Awesome vs. “The Total Package” Lex Luger

A Caged Heat match which opens with two competitors in the ring, with another joining after five minutes. Every three minutes, another joins at random. Once all six men are in the ring, it’s one fall to a finish!

Due to pre-match stipulations, Sting will be the first man in the ring and Lex Luger the last.

I’m glad to see Awesome get some love here....he should have been massive in the dying days of WCW, instead they just gave him a fetish for massive women...and the 70’s.....what the hell were they thinking with Mike Awesome. They should have just given him a mouthpiece and sent him on an unbeaten streak of his own. Goldberg vs. Awesome....2nd streak vs. Awesome Streak....at least Awesome could have benefitted from ending Goldbergs “career” instead of Totally Buff.....but yeah anyway....Sting goes coast to coast

We’ve got what, four months to Starrcade? And about 50odd wins to get through? Should be easy enough with those “house show” wins If we don’t get Goldberg and Steiner come December I’m going to be mightily disappointed. Bammers is a great foil here on Goldbergs way, but he’s not winning

While I’d like to see Douglas get a run, it never happens...in any diary....ever....Palumbo isn’t a bad bet, but unless Booker is moving on to feud with Steiner then I don’t see where he goes from here with a loss

Kronik aren’t great in the ring, but they were remarkably over around this time, while simultaneously doing very little......O’Haire and Jindrak (O’Haire in particular) could both be big players in the future, and while Kronik aren’t a “veteran” team, they are a team of veterans....good win for the youth side, as Wrath looses at Wrath

Curt Hennig vs. “The Chosen One” Jeff Jarrett

I’m probably one of the few guys that didn’t mind Jarrett’s Chosen One run....I didn’t even have a problem with him being the Champion.....and while I love Hennig, Jarrett probably has more left in the tank at this stage of their careers

I love Vampy’s little stable.....but while they are happy enough to sacrifice wins to make a point, their leader should pick up a big victory here....especially in a death match

This is my p!ss break right here, can’t stand either guy.....although I do find the name “Big Bill” oddly satisfying

I guess I’ll go with Snuka’s team here.....although I’d prefer to see Low Ki and AJ on his team after that match on Nitro, they pulled out a hell of a grade against The Future for a quick match......where are those guys? Pre-Show? Or night off?
