The Progress Wrestling Thread

<p>I'm not sure if an indy company needs its own thread, but I figure if there are a few fans on here, it might generate at least a bit of discussion. </p><p> </p><p>

Been aware of Progress for a long while, but didn't really know much beyond them being one of the many companies that are part of the UK wrestling renaissance in the past few years. Some posts on a wrestling site got me to give their Demand Progress streaming service a try and I've been watching through the shows in sequence over the past few months. I'm up to Chapter 51 so ALMOST right up to date. </p><p> </p><p>

I love it. LOVE it. The combination of ring action and characters just connects for me. I'm Canadian but watch a lot of footie, so the British humor mostly connects.</p><p> </p><p>

I have never followed an indy company closely. I've always cherry picked stuff from ROH and PWG rather than watched show after show. WWE stuff hasn't really connected for me for years, despite still watching for the most part. So to get into a company and see the story arcs play out has been refreshing. </p><p> </p><p>

Stuff like the Jimmy Havoc story arc... fantastic. The rise of British Strong Style has been pretty well done, even if it has yet to pay off. The whole arc with the South Pacific Power Couple.... especially the most recent stuff.... brilliant, even if it wasn't all necessarily planned. </p><p> </p><p>

Any other Progress watchers on here?</p>

If only there were more hours in the day! All I can handle is WWE, Lucha Underground and a bit of New Japan. For GFW, ROH, Evolve and the British shows I just read recaps on CagesideSeats or 411Mania.

If you get a chance, I highly recommend it. even just checking out some of the better matches, although the story arcs are really what hooked me in fully.

<p>They are actually holding shows today and tomorrow here in the States. Having never watched any of their shows I was thinking of checking out their show in Boston on Sunday just to see what they are like.</p><p> </p><p>

Okay well I just looked on their site and it looks like the Boston show is sold out (I could not justify driving four hours to their NYC show) so kindly disregard what I had previously written. Too bad I did not know about the show sooner. Oh well maybe I will check out their stuff on YouTube.</p>

Would love to see the South Pacific Power Trip win the tag titles but I think the reaction would be much stronger for that back in the UK. </p><p> </p><p> Weird thing about the Boston show is that I'm not sure a card has been announced. I think that card depends on the results from the New York card. </p><p> </p><p> Not sure how much Youtube is gonna have. Daily Motion seems to have a decent amount. They've had a lot of strong matches in the past year, but one earlier stuff, it was a bit more scattered. Curious what you think if you do check out a few matches or even a full show.</p><p> </p><p> Edit - it looks like they have the full event for Chapter 53 is on Daily Motion. Its a good card with a couple matches that should be fantastic. Haven't watched it yet - I'm on 52. But 53 does feature an epic <em>moment</em> that generates one of the best reactions I've ever seen from a crowd that size. The moment itself won't make as much sense without the full context, but the reaction of the fans is.... pretty awesome.</p>

I've got their streaming service too. I only really got into watching them properly a few months ago so I too am playing catch up. They are probably still only #2 for promotions in the UK I like (ICW being my favourite) - but that's not a bad thing!

I've heard mixed feedback on it from some wrestling viewers I follow - some love it, some have issue with it. But that crowd reaction... monstrous. </p><p> </p><p> The crowd are such a big part of Progress. I know some people dislike that aspect and feel the chants are the crowds marking for themselves. But it does create an awesome environment. And some of the chants and comments are just fantastic.</p>

<p>PROGRESS is easily my favorite promotion in the world right now, replacing PWG. Started with last year's Super Strong Style 16 and been hooked ever since. The characters, stories, and talent is just crazy good. It's very rare that PROGRESS brings in someone who I don't end up liking and even then, they grow on me. They just do it all so well. Women's wrestling, tag team wrestling, big lads wrestling, comedy wrestling, hardcore wrestling; they kill it every show. </p><p> </p><p>

Love PWG, but it's just hard for me to get into 3+ hour shows where the matches are just nonstop action (which is neat), but they don't have any story or build or anything behind them anymore. Not that they don't do it anymore, but they just focus on one at a time. PROGRESS, makes it so much easier to watch 3+ hours. I can binge chapter after chapter without much burnout.</p><p> </p><p>

Real excited to see PROGRESS doing more shows in the States, but real bummed to hear TK Cooper dislocated his ankle. I imagine that probably puts him out of BOLA and my most anticipated tag match of the year with SPPT vs. The Young Bucks <img alt=":(" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

That all being said, Chapter 53 was excellent and I'm really excited to see what's next in store, especially with their big show at Chapter 55. Travis Banks vs. BSS has been great so far and Pete Dunne's heat is off the charts. I imagine their eventual match will be amazing.</p>

They seem to move fairly quickly, given their length. I have yet to really love the Freedom's Road stuff but those are short and not too many yet. </p><p> </p><p> Really curious to see if they are gonna pull the trigger on Banks. Especially if he has the same visa issue as Cooper and Black.</p>
