WMMA5 Progress Report II

Recommended Posts

Here is the second progress report on WMMA5 so that everybody knows where we are with the project.

The Status Of The Game

The game itself is pretty much finished. The interface still needs to be completed and there's a few very minor parts that need polishing, but for the most part it's fully working and done.

The game went into testing a few weeks ago and everything is going extremely well in that regards. Feedback on the changes and new features has been very positive and the team are making good progress at finding and fixing bugs.

The Release Date

As mentioned in the previous Progress Report, the expected release date for WMMA5 was December or January. That still holds, although I'm pretty sure we're going to go for a January release at this point. The reason that we'll likely take the extra time is twofold. Firstly, there is simply so much new content that it's going to take quite a while to properly test every new feature. The second is that I'd like to have at least a full month of hardcore testing on a 100% complete game with 100% complete data, so January will likely work better for that.

The Default Data

As some people have asked, I can confirm that the default data will be set one year on from WMMA4. There will be some slight retconning in that a lot of the new characters will have been fighting at the local scene for a few years and so technically would have been in the WMMA4 game world but weren't. However, everything major from WMMA4 - title changes, previous results, etc - remain unchanged.

One thing that you will be getting is full histories for each company for the year that has elapsed. So that will be every event and every fight recorded and visible in the database. On top of that, every fight has been simmed using the game engine, so everything will fit nicely within the framework of the game.

The Developer's Journal

Finally, I can confirm that the popular Developer's Journal will start next week on the 23rd. This will be where all the new features and changes will be revealed and discussed.

Glad to see you're especially excited about it. I was expecting it to be some sort of WMMA4.5 with more fan-service in the form of tourneys and less contactual hassle, but it seems it'll be much bigger than that.

Nice to see at least partial histories to elapse the time between games. Hopefully we can get some people together to make a full history mod for those that desire this.

If you feel like doing a little release competition: perhaps it could be fun to let the forum members anticipate the title holders for the major promotions.

Was pretty frustrating in the last game that a lot of the new champions (Bobby Brubaker, for instance, who dethroned Julio Regueiro) would lose immediately and never be an elite level fighter. Made the feat of beating a legend to win the belt feel pretty hollow.</p><p> </p><p> The hype for WMMA 5 is very real for me. Cant wait to read the dev journal.</p>

The landscape of MMA in real-life has changed so much since WMMA 4 was released, can't wait to see the new features!<img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />:D

Very excited for the full histories and the new characters. Shame it's going to be a January release as I have three weeks off for Christmas but will have little free time in January, but I'd rather see a fully tested and working product so that's fair enough
