RingRider
Just curious if anyone has put together a Retro Pie. I bought all the parts yesterday and going to try a little weekend project of getting it all set up. Is it as easy as it seems? Any advice/pitfalls I should know of in advance? steesh07
I have one, really easy to do. Only things I didn't try was MAME, PSone and N64. As for the Genesis, SNES etc worked a charm.
RingRider
Yeah...seems easy enough. MAME is actually one of the ones that seems to be throwing me off however....Seems like the process might be a bit different. All that said, have you found that all the games you've tried played well? The FPS was good? Controllers were easy to sync?
supershot
N64 plays slow overall, but some games are not playable what so ever. Otherwise it worked like a charm for me. Best $50 or so I ever spent.
Rayelek
Haven't done it yet, but I've had a how-to link sitting in my bookmarks for forever. https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017/04/one-upping-the-nes-classic-edition-with-the-raspberry-pi-3-and-retropie/
RingRider
Just a quick update for anyone who is interested in trying to set up their own Retro Pie. It was pretty easy and there are a ton of guides/youtube videos that walk you through. I had very positive experiences with Nintendo, SNES, Genesis, and N64 so far. I def. still have some tinkering to do on some of my settings and I haven't yet got into MAME files (old cabinet arcade games) but that's something I am looking to try soon. cappyboy
This sounds like a great way to catch up with all those games I meant to back in the day. But would I end up playing on a postage stamp screen? Or could this be set up to play on a regular TV?
RingRider
I set it up with my regular TV via HDMI. I used the Pi 3B which is WiFi and Bluetooth compatible. Other than a wired USB keyboard for initial setup, it's a totally wireless, small unit which in reality is not much bigger or obtrusive than a firestick or Chromecast.
