WCW 1994: A New Era!

The summer in 1994 was supposed to be the biggest ever for WCW. Hulk Hogan and his friends were suppose to come over, but the deal fell through. Hogan teased and did some appearances for WCW, but was booed. Furious with this he decided not to sign and try to find his way back to WWF one day. Bischoff outraged by this decided to not sign and end the contracts of Jim Duggan, John Tenta, The Nasty Boys, and Brutus Beefcake. Bischoff even tried to sign The Warrior. He did one appearance staring down with World Champion, Ric Flair. The match was signed and The Warrior no-showed Bash at the Beach. Flair ended up wrestling Larry Zbyszko in what was a great match. Bischoff only signed a few stars that summer and one of them was Stan Hansen who came back ready to stop Vader on his path of destruction. The Steiner Brothers also returned to action for WCW. Cactus Jack was not signed back and quickly went to work for ECW. Turner who had mixed feelings towards Bischoff about failing to bring in all these big names decided to fire him. Noticing WWF’s weakness at the top of the card he decided to give creative control to three guys. Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, and Kevin Sullivan have been tasked to take WCW a new direction. A path where they focus on real characters, great wrestling, and interesting storylines that the fans can believe in. They want to build a new generation and use veterans to help get those young guys over and fill out the roster. Turner has tasked them to try to lure away one wrestler from WWF. They decided to pick one man WWF has misused and can still work. WCW is in negotiations to sign Rick Martel. He’s not the future of WCW but he’s available and a great worker. WCW is also picking up the contracts of Shanghai Pierce, Ron Simmons, and Erik Watts. WCW has also signed WWF jobber, Chris Kanyon. They are in talks with the man behind Papa Shango and Mr. Hughes. There are two more signees that are WCW alumni are also set to sign, but those names didn’t get leaked. WCW is certainly looking up with their new direction.

We are starting in September, with just 3 weeks of TV before Fall Brawl. Our World Champion is Ric Flair who won the title in a match with Sting where both belts have been unified at Clash of the Champions in June. Flair was set to face Hogan, but he backed out. Warrior was thrown into the scene with a big pay per appearance deal. A big clash for Bash at the Beach was set when Warrior came out confronting the World Champion. Warrior no showed the event and with Sting already booked to have the night off wasn't available. Larry Zbyszko stepped in and the fans were behind him trying to capture the world title in a classic match. Turner seen that WCW didn't need a big WWF name to make their product better. They needed to stick with offering great wrestling and good storylines. With this Sting came back and was ready to end the reign of Flair and win back his WCW World Championship. The United States Title holder is Steve Austin and he is still in a big feud with Ricky Steamboat as they keep putting on great matches. The WCW Tag Team Champions over the summer, Kevin Sullivan and Cactus Jack were defeated by Pretty Wonderful. Cactus Jack turned heel and lost to Dave Sullivan in a loser leaves WCW match over who will team with Kevin Sullivan. The Steiners have come in and are trying to chase the titles but one team stands in their way, The Harlem Heat. Vader is trying to dominate the WCW and had his sights on the winner of Ric Flair and Sting. Vader didn't count on an old foe to show up ready for a fight. Stan Hansen. The two men have faced off once going into September and there wasn't a winner as it ended in a wild brawl. Lord Steven Regal is still holding on to the TV Title as Johnny B. Badd is still giving chase, but Regal keeps outsmarting him using the rules to help him retain his championship. In one of the hottest feuds is the one where Dustin is facing the Stud Stable when Arn Anderson befriends him before turning on Dustin. Arn joined the Stud Stable. Dustin is outnumbered as he tries to find allies to combat the stable of Terry Funk, Bunkhouse Buck, Arn Anderson, and Meng. This is the state of WCW.

WCW News

Terry Funk is deciding to leave ECW as WWF and WCW are trying to sign him to a Written deal. Both sides are throwing out 20K to 25K deals for 4 years. WWF has also rumored to give him 10% bonus for PPV events. Terry is only considering the WWF offer at the moment and this could put Fall Brawl War Games match in jeopardy.
WCW is trying to steal SMW away from WWF and use it as their developmental company. Jim Cornette is still under contract with WWF and they still have a partnership. WCW is considering trying to run SMW out of business and buy them. They do want Cornette to stay in control and want him on their television. Rumor has it they want him to manage Bad Attitude.
WCW has been in negotiations with 3 former WCW stars from the 80s for a segment at Fall Brawl. Outsiders are speculating that they could be starting a WCW Hall of Fame.
WCW is considering adding a third show to it's lineup. Problem is that they want to compete with WWF's Monday Night Raw. WCW is playing it smart and pushing that idea back until they feel that they can go anywhere in the world and draw. Right now since Turner took 100% control they haven't made a single trip outside of the southeast.
WCW has successfully stolen two WWF talent. Chris Kanyon and Rick Martel are on their way. Kanyon could start working shows in the next week. Rick Martel is waiting for creative to come up with something for him.
WCW is in talks with several young stars and veterans to add to the mix. We should expect to see some new faces in the WCW by the end of 1994. WCW doesn't want to debut them in mass, but the rumor is that most of them are enhancement talent to give new matchups as they feel they use the same job guys over and over again.
WCW is also expanding the Tag Team division and are putting out that they might revive the United States Tag Team Title. That wouldn't happen until they feel like they have enough interesting tag teams to carry two titles.
WCW isn't planning on adding any singles titles at this point as they want their titles to feel special.
Some talent towards the bottom of the card are getting worried with new talent coming in towards the end of the year. WCW does expect to make a few cuts if they don't turn a profit for the year.
WCW is also instituting new rules. Talent are not allowed to drink or smoke at the arenas. Drug testing is going to happen randomly. They get a fine, a suspension, and then the third strike is being fired. This goes for any drug or drinking problems for in-ring talent. They also have to arrive to the arena 3 hours before and can't leave until the show is over. The wrestlers are in a good mood about the rule changes because Turner has gotten deals where the wrestlers will have catering, masseuses, and chiropractors at the arenas. They will also have their transport and hotels organized and paid for.

I like the format you are going with. It is easy to read and detailed enough to tell whats going on. I don't think you need to write a page to get your story told. I have thought about how WCW would have done IRL without Hogan and his cronies. I have been thinking about doing a WCW dynasty/diary to see what WCW 1994 without Hogan may have been like. Glad to see what you are doing and looking foward to see where this goes. Interested to see how Dustin handles the Stud Stable. Keep up the good work.<img alt="
