Burning Hammer of the Wrestling Gods - Death of the King

Recommended Posts

Well, my idea for the title was "Shogun of Harlem" ala Sho-Nuff, since it was what was going on with Celt's short-lived dynasty. In the case of BHOTWG, it could totally work as an IC Title ala NJPW. I've also had a bunch of ideas regarding sumo wrestling that could be implemented with that title instead of say, the BCG Challenger Series. Not straight sumo, but thematically same rules.

<p>As always, loving reading the reasoning behind some of the predictions. I try to somewhat explain the POV behind the booking decisions when I write these results so you can see my perspective on it. Next up, some interviews plus the last two signings and afterwards, Test of Prophecies. </p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45692" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><strong>BHOTWG </strong><strong><span style="color:#000080;">Warrior Globe in Yokohama 2016</span></strong><strong> - Results & Review:</strong><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong> Burning Hammer of the Wrestling Gods</strong></p><p><strong> </strong><strong><span style="color:#000080;">Warrior Globe in Yokohama</span></strong></p><p><strong> January, Sunday Week 1, 2016</strong></p><p><strong> Kanagawa Stadium</strong></p><p><strong> Watch: </strong>HYBOSO & BHOTWG International</p><p> Rating: 263K buys, 59K subscribers</p><p> Attendance: 30,000 Sell Out!</p><p> </p><p> Likely because BHOTWG is running three pay-per-views within the first 8 days of 2016 and not long after Night of the Burning Hammer, they’ve had a pretty steep drop in buys. It’ll be interesting to see how much that’s effected by Sensational Dragon & Marihito Masuko main eventing the night versus Tadiyuki Kikkawa and Hiroaki Nakasawa main eventing Test of Prophecies. It’s once more in Kanagawa Stadium as Test of Prophecies is set to be in, with the Burning Path moving on elsewhere after tomorrow. The Burning Path is just that little bit shorter tonight as the journey to Night of the Burning Hammer is truly underway. Shimedzu is on commentary for the first two matches with Kazutoshi Imoo joining for the rest of the card and Toru Minamoto completely off it. Shimedzu wasn’t too good in his role but he isn’t wrestling tonight either. During the pre-show, the four young lions fought, and Motoyuki Miyake was surprisingly a few steps ahead of everyone else. Crimson Ghost & Kazunori Yamura ended up winning against Miyake and Tetsuji Nishimoto with Yamura pinning Miyake.</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="ObXTJRN.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ObXTJRN.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="rm3BeK0.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rm3BeK0.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs. <img alt="34TdOQ7.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/34TdOQ7.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="Ta7m46K.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Ta7m46K.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> <strong>Helikaon & Hijo Del Relampago vs. Ninja Shunji & White Samurai:</strong></p><p> The opener of the night went as most people expected. Helikaon & Hijo Del Relampago continue showing hints of a tag team, and did pretty quick work of their opponents. Relampago got the win in just over 8 minutes when he hit the Relampago Blanco on White Samurai. Helikaon & Relampago both performed better than they did in their faster-paced Lions of the Ring matches. - C</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="pXjjvyX.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/pXjjvyX.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="bHUqUcQ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/bHUqUcQ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="DBpqZQd.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/DBpqZQd.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs. <img alt="kdrwPxL.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/kdrwPxL.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="T3y3JN8.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/T3y3JN8.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="XABwMwf.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/XABwMwf.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> <strong>Bairei Yasujiro, Hachigoro Maeda & Haru Kurofuji vs. Jin Miyamoto, The Incredible Koyama & Toju Munkata</strong></p><p> This match was hard to predict but I would’ve put my money on Miyamoto, Koyama and Munkata winning since they were the younger trio and Kurofuji and Yasujiro are past it at this point. Munkata did dominate when he was in the ring, with emphasis put on his consistent growth. Koyama wasn’t really allowed to look too good here, and it’s clear BHOTWG doesn’t really have faith in him the way WLW did. In the end, Maeda is the one who continued his upward trend and pinned Koyama with the Beta Blocker in 8 minutes. Not a very good match. - C-</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="iDVBh06.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/iDVBh06.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="95DkLvu.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/95DkLvu.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="Dt8YR1C.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Dt8YR1C.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs. <img alt="fXtau0F.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/fXtau0F.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="52XoD67.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/52XoD67.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="xAUGNn7.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/xAUGNn7.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> <strong>Golden Scorpion, Java & The Awesome Kiyaru vs. Masakazu Kaima, Reijiro Hiraki & Sanetomo Shiraishi:</strong></p><p> Another sub-10 minute match, understandable considering its mostly veterans. Imoo came out for commentary and was a clear improvement over Shimedzu. Java dominated whoever he was in the ring with, even the tough veteran Shiraishi. Scorpion & Kiyaru had good exchanges with Kaima & Hiraki. The exchanges with Kiyaru & Hiraki were particularly notable, Hiraki seemed to have Kiyaru pretty well scouted out, and actually pinned the legend with the Amber Piledriver, a pretty unexpected ending short of the 10 minute time limit. It was pointed out on commentary that Hiraki was once considered to take on the mask of Elemental II before the man now known as Elemental III was chosen. In his preparation to become Elemental III, Hiraki had to undoubtedly study a lot of the Elemental’s matches, and Kiyaru featured in a great deal of those. Hiraki likely knows as much about Elemental as he does about guys like Kiyaru & Optimus. All that said, this was the worst match of the night. American Panther are on a role, and obviously Elemental III and MYSTIC Dragon are part of the Four Heavenly Kings and rarely, if ever, team. Elemental III and MYSTIC couldn’t completely get along in this one, and a game of one-upmanship pretty much screwed them when it came to getting the results. American Panther were completely in sync and Optimus actually caught Elemental III off-guard with the Optimizer in under 13 minutes. It was pretty unexpected to see Elemental III tap out, and hardly anyone would’ve predicted that finish, but it probably shows that American Panther are in for a big year. The match was characterized by Shimakage & Miyamae simply not getting along, and Miyamae outright refusing to listen to Shimakage’s wisdom. Shimakage eventually had a repeat of his treatment of Ryushi Sato and walked out on Miyamae. Fugunaga & Hoshino picked a part the hardworking veteran and Fugunaga eventually put him away with the Rear Naked Choke in under 12 minutes. B-</p><p> </p><p> <em>After the match, Eisaku Hoshino grabbed a microphone, while Fugunaga waited in the corner. He wasn’t really happy beating a veteran like Natsu Miyamae in that fashion, he deserved a better partner. That’s not why he’s talking, he’s talking because a great friend of his has just been signed to BHOTWG and he wanted to make his first appearance on the big stage, in the ring, Hoshino was proud to introduce the “Ultimate Submission Machine” Buddy Garner. You’ll have a hard time finding people capable of bigger reaction in Japan than the one Buddy Garner got. At 43 years old, and having not wrestled in almost a decade, the man still looked like he was in peak physical shape. After failing against NEO, Keith & Toshitala were pretty motivated for this one. Of course, Toshusai’s trio were equally motivated with a match against NEO the next night. Horri spent a bit more time in the ring in this one, and his exchanges were Toshusai were particularly hardhitting, clearly Horri was still pissed at Toshusai assigning him the blame for their defeat at Night of the Burning Hammer. The result did not go the way most would have expected, and short of 15 minutes, Toshitala locked in the Arm Triangle on Sanda and the veteran tag team wrestler tapped out. Toshusai was completely shocked at ringside. This absolutely does not help what were already uneven odds for Test of Prophecies. - C</p><p> </p><p> <strong>NEO (Koshiro Ino, Yasuhiko Taira & Yasunobu Masuno) vs. Gonkuro Kamioka, Murai Enomoto & Taro Shionoya:</strong></p><p> NEO did not have much trouble against the trio of Kamioka, Enomoto & Shionoya. Ino spent an unusual amount of time in the ring Gonkuro Kamioka, deliberately teasing him and bullying him. Shionoya got pretty pissed off and sent Ino scurrying out of the ring. Enomoto was still the one to take the pin though, courtesy of Yasuhiko Taira Flattener in 11 minutes. A warm up match before NEO’s showdown with Toshusai, Hamacho & Sanda, but no one has any expectations Toshusai will walk away with the win. - B-</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="ojCFIaS.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ojCFIaS.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="IaGsArd.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/IaGsArd.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="llmp7qs.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/llmp7qs.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="LGYOmfB.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/LGYOmfB.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="r74PVhY.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/r74PVhY.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs. <img alt="yUn9rT6.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/yUn9rT6.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="1lOnS1J.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/1lOnS1J.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="F1rLueI.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/F1rLueI.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="SD64Vjd.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/SD64Vjd.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="rxcwiwv.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rxcwiwv.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> <strong>Nakasawa's Army (Atsumori Takemura, Hiroaki Nakasawa & Ryushi Sato), Hyosuke Kokan & Kansuke Konda vs. Kikkawa's Army (Heihachiro Sakai, Hirokumi Saito, Tadiyuki Kikkawa & VENOM) & Yoshii Shiomi:</strong></p><p> Nakasawa’s Army pairs up with the Burning Junior Tag Team champions against Kikkawa’s Army featuring Yoshii Shiomi. Takemura got the better of Saito in their exchange, and of course Nakasawa and Kikkawa shared the ring for less than a minute which was mostly tense staredown. Ryushi Sato, the recent addition to Nakasawa’s Army, was pinned by Heihachiro Sakai after a Sakai Suplex in a few seconds after the 10 minute mark. Nakasawa’s Army continues to look fragile ahead of Nakasawa’s big duel with Kikkawa, but at least there wasn’t much miscommunication. - B-</p><p> </p><p> <img alt="At4o4r7.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/At4o4r7.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="5j9d6tC.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/5j9d6tC.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs. <img alt="VYZTu3O.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/VYZTu3O.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="iMnhbI9.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/iMnhbI9.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> <strong>Burning World Tag Team Championship: Nissho Yuasa & Toshiki Shibanumo © vs. Kikkawa's Generals (Masaaki Okazaki & Tasuku Iesada):</strong></p><p> Toshiki Shibanumo’s attempts to prove himself deserving of his Burning World Tag Team championship was put to the test against two fellow veterans. Okazaki & Iesada didn’t communicate much but they’re such excellent singles wrestlers, they didn’t really need to. Yuasa proved trouble for the Generals but Yuasa’s weakness is his stamina, something Iesada and Okazaki have in spades, even in their old age. Shibanumo was submitted by Okazaki in less than 12 minutes, and Yuasa was visibly disappointed as he helped Shibanumo up to his feet and away from the ring. This marks one of the shortest title reigns in BHOTWG history (if not the shortest), and the shortest Burning World Tag Team title reign period. For Iesada, this is his second reign (the first coming with Kikkawa) and for Okazaki, this is his first reign. Having been in Kikkawa’s shadow for most of their careers, this is also a rare instance for them to even have belts. They are officially the 20th Burning World Tag Team champions. - C</p><p> </p><p> <em>The entirety of Kikkawa’s Army showed up after the match, including Yoshii Shiomi & VENOM. Fortunately for the young boys, Kikkawa did not demand his Burning Throne brought to the ring. Kikkawa wrapped the Burning World Tag Team championship belts around his generals himself, and the sight of Kikkawa, Iesada, and Okazaki standing side by side with the three Burning World belts was both great and intimidating. Kikkawa spoke of Test of Prophecies tomorrow night, and commented that Yoshii Shiomi & VENOM knew what was expected of them; Kikkawa's Army does NOT accept failure, and he did not feel the need to address what consequences would come of that. As for Nakasawa, what should have been just another victory for Kikkawa will be a painful reminder of what happens when you lack respect for the "King". He expected better from Nakasawa, a man who prides himself on tradition and honor, a man more respectable than most taking the Burning Path, but perhaps he's forgotten himself spending so long on the sidelines, and perhaps having failed against NEO gave him illusions on what brings about success in BHOTWG. Kikkawa would remind him of all of that at Test of Prophecies, and Nakasawa </em><em><strong>would</strong></em><em> bow down to the "King".</em></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="851311K.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/851311K.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs. <img alt="MoJtm7G.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/MoJtm7G.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> <strong>Burning Junior Championship: Sensational Dragon © vs. Marihito Masuko:</strong></p><p> Sensational Dragon vs. Marihito Masuko is widely viewed as a modern day version of the Elemental and Optimus battles, and this was another solid addition to a rivalry that will not end anytime soon. Sensational recently dethroned Masuko, so this was a rematch of sorts, and as expected Dragon took home the win. BHOTWG isn’t known for its short reigns (the previous match being a rare exception) so Dragon was never expected to lose here. This was a fast paced affair with an obscene amount of counters and dodges that more often than not made each wrestler their own worst enemy. As Dragon promised, he kicked out of the Masukos Cradle. Masuko attempted to follow it up with the Masuko Cradle Shock, a move which has always taken out Dragon, but Dragon got out of it and hit Masuko with the Masuko Cradle Shock himself. Masuko could not kick out six seconds before the fifteen minutes mark, and Sensational Dragon succeeded in his 3rd defense of the Burning Junior championship. - B</p><p> </p><p> <em>Sensation Dragon grabbed the microphone after the match. Dragon pointed out that Masuko got to his title shot by pinning MYSTIC Dragon, not him, and that as he promised when he took the title from the “Purple Demon,” this rivalry was over. The Four Heavenly Kings makes for good copy, but Sensational Dragon has more Burning Junior title reigns than any of them, and after this year, he’ll have the record-most Best of the Super Junior reigns. There have been many new Juniors coming in, and many Juniors vying for a spot among the Four Heavenly Kings, and he’s happy to give up his spot, because he’s above the Four Heavenly Kings, and this is the year he proves that. </em></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Final Show Grade: </strong>B</p><p> </p><p> A good PPV, probably a slight step above The Burning Path but it’s hard to really say Dragon vs. Masuko was better than NEO vs. Kikkawa’s Army, especially considering we’ve seen better Dragon vs. Masuko matches, it’s still great to see the Burning Junior championship main event. Buddy Garner’s appearance is huge and should shake up what remains a stale main event until Ino becomes a serious competitor. Buddy is expected to remain with the company until his 20th year anniversary (considering he’s spent over half his career on the sidelines though, it’s hard to praise the length). It’s also pretty clear that BHOTWG are setting up some subtle stories for the upcoming Best of the Super Juniors between American Panther’s success over Elemental III & MYSTIC, the rivalry between the Dragons, Sensational trying to step beyond the Four Heavenly Kings, and smaller stories like Helikaon, Relampago & Maeda all being on roles while veterans like Kiyaru & Scorpion lose their touch. We’re still a bit away from that though.</p></div></blockquote>
