PWG: The Animal Kingdom

OOC:

Welcome to the start of my first diary, where I attempt to book one of my favorite promotions in the world, PWG! I've always wanted to start with BOLA, so I waited till Fleisch released the August version of RWC to do it. Thank you to Fleisch for everything you've done with RWC, I can't wait to play this one. I've also always wanted to do a show with an alliance being one of the biggest factors, and after sitting down and thinking about it, putting together PROGRESS, Dragon Gate, and PWG made the most sense, so I put together my two wants, and now we have the Animal Kingdom, starting right before BOLA! I hope you all will enjoy this as much as I have since starting, and I plan on posting the BOLA card soon!

I thought Fred Yehi had been announced for BOLA 2018 IRL and I was super happy but just checked and he isn't. Extremely disappointed with how underutilized he is IRL.

My picks are:

Eddie Kingston

Shane Strickland - Ilja is great though and I love them both. Either one is fine to make it through.

Mark Andrews - Unfamiliar with Eagles

Sammy Guevara - He needs to expand his range beyond being a tremendous high flyer.

Fred Yehi - Bias. This man is an insanely talented wrestler for how young he is, and his style makes him instantly distinct from anyone else.

David Starr - Huge Starr fan, I watched Devlin a few years back and he seemed green to me but I'm sure he's improved. Devlin / Starr are great friends and team a lot so it should be interesting.

WALTER - Can't be losing here.

I honestly had only known of Fred Yehi up until last year as a guy that started yarding but became a pretty good pro wrestler, but last year got to see some of his work and now wish he could get the recognition he deserves. His match with Eddie Kingston at AAW's Take No Prisoners was one of the best matches I have ever seen, and really him and Kingston are the only guys that can do modern day King's Road style right. Sucks that he doesn't get booked for PWG more, but Eddie said the reason he doesn't get booked is that he doesn't fit the style they do anymore, so Fred is probably the same. Still, he'd do great in CZW/ROH. Glad he's doing good in MLW.

NIGHT 1

<img alt="diETpSc.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/diETpSc.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />VS.<img alt="9BFZhny.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/9BFZhny.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

This match was as much of a wild brawl as you could get, to be expected from these two. Brody King defeated Eddie Kingston with a Gonzo Bomb(Crucifix Piledriver).

Winner: Brody King

<img alt="SNLfE6C.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/SNLfE6C.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

A battle of styles, the hard hitting Ilja tried to take out Shane at every turn, but Shane was able to use his speed and agility to avoid Dragunov's attacks before finishing him with the Swerve Stomp(Diving Stomp to Seated Opponent).

Winner: Shane Strickland

<img alt="XJj5JGv.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/XJj5JGv.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

<img alt="5QWdzMY.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/5QWdzMY.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />VS.<img alt="vkXSCm5.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/vkXSCm5.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

A battle of high flyers, this match was a little more grounded than you'd usually expect, but Mark Andrews was able to use his experience to defeat Eagles with the Shooting Star Press.

Winner: Mark Andrews

<img alt="UlP41mX.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/UlP41mX.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

<img alt="UdzcGXu.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/UdzcGXu.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />VS.<img alt="z4PktVv.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/z4PktVv.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

A spotfest if there's ever been one. No psychology, just insane move after insane move by two young high flyers. Sammy Guevara got the win with a 630 Senton. After the match, Eddie Kingston made it clear to me that Trey Miguel had no psychology and didn't belong in a wrestling ring.

Winner: Sammy Guevara

<img alt="mDNB4kT.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/mDNB4kT.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

<img alt="C7JNqnF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/C7JNqnF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />VS.<img alt="4WU6SjB.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/4WU6SjB.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

In the second best match of the night, Lawlor and Yehi kept going back and forth in an MMA-style match that ended when Yehi caught Lawlor in a suprise Koji Clutch.

Winner: Fred Yehi

<img alt="KrF9EIa.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/KrF9EIa.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

<img alt="O6mmIIz.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/O6mmIIz.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />VS.<img alt="fRcROe1.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/fRcROe1.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

David Starr and Jordan Devlin are great friends outside the ring, and that translated into a pretty good technical match that ended with Starr hitting Devlin with the Bob Fossil(Arm Trap Piledriver).

Winner: David Starr

<img alt="N2tVx8y.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/N2tVx8y.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Non-Tournament Match,PWG World Title:

<img alt="leMntKn.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/leMntKn.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />VS.<img alt="cowKUGp.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/cowKUGp.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

A very story driven match, Sydal spent the entire time targeting the legs of WALTER, trying to get the big man down, while WALTER kept trying to attack the faster Sydal. At one point in the match, WALTER attempted to drop Sydal onto his stomach, but had him at a bad angle and forced Sydal to attempt to break his fall, getting a broken finger in the process. The match ended with WALTER decapitating Sydal with a lariat.

Winner: WALTER

<img alt="MOImKSq.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/MOImKSq.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Overall Rating: 36/D-

Best Workers: Sydal/Strickland(both 56), and Yehi/Lawlor(both 47)

Outside of BOLA, the Animal Kingdom has been taken advantage of by Dragon Gate and PROGRESS as well, with PROGRESS getting Dragon Kid and Shingo Takagi for some of their shows, and Dragon Gate getting Marty Scurll and Will Ospreay.

Solid show. Fine with most of the results. Nice to see Yehi as one of the top performers of the night.

Hope WALTER doesn't get shit on too bad for the botch.

Strickland's great, has to be a favorite to take the whole thing.

Also Ospreay/Scurll in DG would be crazy. Takagi in PROGRESS would be awesome too, especially if he got involved with Dunne.

Yeah, originally I had actually planned for Lawlor to go over, but I realized that doing that would be a little too on the nose for my later plans for him, and I wasn't confident enough in his skills. Now I know I could have chose either one of them and it still would have been an amazing match, but I'm glad I put Yehi over, he really needs this win. Sydal was pissed after the match and I've given him a bonus and a month off, and WALTER is out annoyed by the fact that he botched, so hopefully that doesn't hurt my plans for night 2 too bad. I think I'm the most mad about how bad Kingston/King was, I really shouldn't have gone with Wild Brawl with them, but both have great Brawling, so I thought it would work. Hopefully Brody can pick up from where he was on night 1 and do better in his match(s) on night 3. I had no idea Strickland would kill it so well on night 1, Ilja was so off his game getting a 22, and they still had the best match of the night thanks to him. This changes my plans immensely, but I already know where I'm going with it. Takagi fits in very well in PROGRESS, and I'm sure New Japan ain't happy that two of their biggest Juniors are currently with what could be considered their biggest competition.
