I'm trying to find out the weight divisions and rules of some early MMA companies. Does anybody have any suggestions where I can research this?

What companies? I have over 3500 MMA events in my fight library, a lot of which are from 1993-2000 and even some that pre-date 1993. I can consult my library to verify the rule sets and weight classes of any organization I have on file.

Just give me a complete list and I'll do my best to secure the rule sets and weight classes from 1997. Talk to you soon.

I wanted to have it done by Christmas, and that is going to be difficult. Every time I think that I have gotten closed to the finishing point, something happens to make me rethink it.

For instance, in the last month, added 6 more events, 50-60 more results, approx 60 more fighters. I have almost finished going through debuted fighters, but that will take me a few more hours. I need to go through the companies in more detail as I haven’t touched anything yet.

Next I need to go through numerous test saves as I don’t like the starting finances, I need to decide when I start the Mod, Jan 1997 or March 1997 after UFC 12. If I start in March I need to add another 10-15 events and maybe another 100 fight results.

I also need to consider pictures, have a few ideas, but not sure yet.

I would like a couple of people to test/look over it, then i’ll Release it. I’m sure I will have missed stuff and will be required to re edit things once it is released so it may never truly be finished, just constantly updated.

On a side note as a possible spoiler, I may release two versions. One for Jan, and one for March so people can choose when to play.

Currently, by Christmas is not looking likely. I do have a lot of time off over the festive period, so will be working away on it then. So will state that end of Jan is the current date.

Will provide a better detailed update tonight. Someone else has joined, and has done some excellent work regarding accuracy, so it will be even better than I imagined.

Just wanted to say my full support is behind this. I don't claim any ownership or whatever on my mods, no need for asking permission (I'm not around as much as I used to be). I wouldn't have been able to get mine off the ground without other people's work. They're free for anyone to tinker away with and re-release in whatever format you choose, within reason of course (no political statement mods)

Beyond excited for this release. I've been doing a Fight Pass Re-Watch starting with UFC 1 and moving up. I made it till about UFC 15 and decided I HAD to get a 1997 game going.

Holding off on the start, as this seems like it will be worth the wait! Thanks for taking it upon yourself to improve an already great mod. Looking forward to trying it out.

All the best (don't hesitate to reach out if the community can be of any assistance).

Doesn't the original mod already have potential set to 0 on everyone (or nearly everyone)?

Actually it does lol. That might explain why I got a lackluster Saku and GSP last time.

Now maybe I would at least set manual potential for a few key fighters myself, but I wouldn't know what to really set it to. Would 90 be too crazy for a guy like GSP? Or should he be even higher?

Gotta say, I think potential being set to 0 for everyone is silly.

GSP wouldn't become a journeyman because that's not who he is.

I don't want Tiki Ghosn suddenly becoming the new GSP.

I'm not going to go through and set my own desired potential for everyone, so I'd just use the old mod. I want to get Takada in the hall of fame by booking him properly, not by him randomly getting a high potential roll and turning into a legit monster.

I didn't choose to change this mod as a complete historical playthrough. I wanted to make it an accurate representation of the MMA world in 1997. If people debut after Jan 1997 then they start at zero potential. This is because history is not yet written.

That said, I have been playing through it as the MOD sits at the moment and to be honest there haven't been any massive shocks. I'm currently in Ocotober 2003 and Wanderlei Silva (21-3), Cro Cop (8-0), Arlovski (12-0), are all pretty strong. As is Anderson Silva (18-2), Matt Hughes (14-2), Chuck Liddell (11-2). THe only ones that have been a little different would be Gary Imes (10-1-1) who has won my Super Heavyweight Title against some strong competition.

how many days left? i check this thread everyday

I check it every day too lol

I hope there's an update of some kind soon. I don't want to seem impatient, but any time there's a period of radio silence on these kinds of things, I get nervous.

Update.

I am still working on it, there was a really knowledgeable helpful guy helping me but he has stuff going on and I haven't heard from him for a while. I am still going through fighters one by one, but I'm beginning to think that WEC's data was really good in that area so I may leave it and update it every once in a while from feedback on here, and because I hate things being in accurate when I find them.

I should stop giving a timeframe as that sets me up to fail. Rest assured it will still be released, but it may be a while.

Thanks for the update. First of all thanks for working on this mod, it sounds really exciting and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Time pressure is never a good thing and I know from personal experience that a happy modder is a good modder. Just take your time and release it whenever you think it's ready.

Pride isn’t available in Jan 97, as they weren’t in real life. It’s on of a few changes I have made. Another couple include the true start dates of fighters with zero records and more up to date company information. WEC’s Mod has some fighters start later with a record and have them have a reputation etc. Everyone who is yet to debut starts at 0-0. There are plenty of places for them to fight and develop.

One thing people may not like is the fact that it uses organic fighter information. While this does remove some of the final details about fighters which I do like, I want consistency. If someone is up for writing profiles for 2600 - 2700 fighter then I’m open to considering it. The only thing I may do is use Wikipedia and copy some bits and pieces. But only if I feel it’s needed and time allows.

Once the kids are in bed tonight, i’m Playing Fallout 76, after that I will continue with the Mod.
