Their singer kept doing this weird impression of a turtle pulling its head into its shell while he was growling, the rest of the band looked really embarrassed. Rhyme1234
Just gone back and listened to some Drowning Pool, and listened to the Sinner Album, the only album that I ever liked and its damn great/gold. I was wondering if there are any albums, tracks or anything with a dark instrumental, voice. I did a lot of research, but I found not that to my liking. Any thoughts? There were some bands around the same time that tried to do different stuff with nu metal like Drowning Pool did though. Spineshank, Adema, Fear Factory's Digimortal album (which I think got unfairly lumped into the nu metal hate train even though it's still clearly Fear Factory) and Snot are my favorites from that era. Hopefully that helps and I'm not just repeating suggestions you've already checked out.

Though I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious what those songs would've sounded like with Lynn Strait. I've wondered for a while how far Snot could've gone if he hadn't died. A lot like Drowning Pool in that respect come to think of it.

Rhyme1234
The Eleven Types Of Nu Metal? Having studied nu metal for many years it has become apparent that nu metal is a diverse genre. This is part of the reason why there is a lot of hate directed at certain bands like Crazy Town and Limp Bizkit whereas other bands like Static X seem to get a free pass. When I grouped bands together by their flavour of nu metal I came up with these eleven categories: : Coal Chamber, Kittie, Korn (self-titled), Deftones (Adrenaline), Taproot (Gift), Spineshank (Strictly Diesel), Staind (Dysfunction), Relative Ash - Early releases in the era of nu metal - Raw production value - Moaning, wailing or hushed vocals with droning, monotonous guitar riffs - No DJ scratching, but may have minor elements of drum programming - Rapping is mostly non-committal, disguised as spoken word, scream-rapping or sing-rapping : 12 Stones, Saliva, Sevenwiser, Crossfade, Soil, Evanescence, TRUSTcompany, Smile Empty Soul, Godsmack, Puddle of Mudd, Disturbed, Drowning Pool, Trapt - Radio friendly Americanised sound - A few songs contain rapping - Likely to have guitar solos - Likely to appear on WWF and superhero movie soundtracks : Slipknot, American Head Charge, Mudvayne, Mushroomhead, Fear Factory (Digimortal), System Of A Down, Otep, Dry Kill Logic, Slaves On Dope, No One, Machine Head (The Burning Red) - Horror aesthetic - Darkest lyrical themes in the genre - Highest level of aggression : P.O.D., Soulfly, Hed P.E., Skindred, Darwin’s Waiting Room - As the name suggests, contains elements of reggae and/or full reggae style songs - Expect to see dreadlocks : Linkin Park, Adema, Dry Cell, Level, Dope, From Zero, Twisted Method - Includes Linkin Park clones - Cutting-edge, futuristic or fantasy aesthetic - Spiked hair - Seamlessly flows between singing, sing-rapping and rapping : Incubus (S.C.I.E.N.C.E.), Stepa, Hostile Groove, Sunk Loto, 40 Below Summer - In almost all cases the vocalist is a white guy with dreadlocks - Elements of funk or groove - Some strange lyrics : Primer 55, Limp Bizkit, Methods Of Mayhem, Crazy Town, Papa Roach - Strong hip hop influence - Rapping about gang violence, sex, drugs, alcohol etc. - Self-promoting lyrics - Definitely has DJ scratching – Static X, Spineshank (The Height Of Callousness), Apartment 26, Pitchshifter, Celldweller - Fast-paced drum programming - Aspects of electronica - Noisy – Rage Against The Machine, Reveille, One Minute Silence, Clawfinger - Includes Rage Against The Machine clones - Likely to have political lyrics - Mostly rapping and not much singing – Alien Ant Farm, A, Zebrahead, Sum 41, Violent Delight, The Bloodhound Gang - Mostly known for performing other genres of rock including pop-punk - Certain tracks are clearly nu metal or influenced by nu metal – Factory 81, Pressure 4-5, Number One Son - Less well known / Underrated - Willing to admit they are nu metal - Style is considered highly derivative of more successful bands in the genre - Have no specific characteristics which place them in the other categories - Still kick ass
