Best version of DC characters

Hi all. Back after a wee absence - actually it was a pretty long absence! So I have been watching Gotham and it made me think of how jumbled the DC TV/film universe is. Made me think about what the best version of DC characters is. Here is a list of my personal faves - feel free to add and debate!

Joker - Heath Ledger

Batman - Christian Bale

Penguin - The dude from Gotham

Alfred - Gotham

Riddler - Gotham (sorry Jim Carey!)

Lex Luther - smallville Lex

Superman - Christopher Reeves! (who else?)

Harley Quinn - Suicide Squad version

The Riddler - Gotham version

Lois Lane - Smallville

Robin - I know he didn't really feature but the one they introduced in the third Nolan film would have been great, the dud from 500 days of Summer.

Catwoman - controversial but I liked Michelle Pfiefer

Harley Quinn - Suicide Squad

Green Arrow - Smallville (probably unpopular) he reminded me of Ben Afleck

I used to watch the Adam West Batman show but as an adult it all seems a bit too camp and fun. I prefer my Batman stuff dark and gritty.

Joker - Jack Nicholson

Batman - Michael Keaton

Penguin - Burgess Meredith I despise the version on Gotham.

Alfred - Tough call I would say a tossup between Michael Gough and Sean Pertwee (Come on the guy is the son of my second favorite Doctor from Doctor Who)

Riddler - Tossup between Cory Michael Smith (from Gotham) and Frank Gorshin

Lex Luthor - Gene Hackman, Michael Rosenbaum, and Jon Cryer.

Yes that Jon Cryer...Duckie from Pretty In Pink, Alan from Two and Half Men. I was shocked about this, but thus far he has done a great job as Lex on the Supergirl television show.

This is really tough there are three who I really like in this role and I honestly can't say which I like better. I really hate the Jesse Eisenberg version.

Superman - Christopher Reeves

Lois Lane - Margot Kidder

Catwoman - Camren Bicondova (Gotham) though for a more mature version I would go with Eartha Kitt

Green Arrow - Stephen Amell

Flash - Grant Gustin (I am not a fan of the guy who is currently playing him in the DCU)

Supergirl - Melissa Benoist

Mr. Freeze - Nathan Darrow (Gotham). Not Arnold, that's for sure.<img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Although he was always great playing an unhinged character.

I think he's amazing. I mean with no real stand out Penguin to follow (Danny DeVito was weird and the TV series version was ancient history) he really made the role his own. He is a bit anti hero though, to be honest though Gotham nearly always encourages you to cheer the baddies.

Alfred - Tough call I would say a tossup between Michael Gough and Sean Pertwee (Come on the guy is the son of my second favorite Doctor from Doctor Who) Sean Pertwee is probably my favourite character in Gotham. But Gough was excellent too. It seems everyone plays the character a bit different. Michael Caine was sort of a half-way house between the two.

Riddler - Tossup between Cory Michael Smith (from Gotham) and Frank Gorshin I can barely remember the Riddler from the TV series so procrastinating from work by watching clips - it's cool, I'm doing an article on re-casting the DC Universe...if anyone asks. He was pretty cool actually. Love how Robin always figures out the Riddles and Batman just looks like a chump! I think I need to rewatch some of the old episodes. Love the Gotham version though, especially early on where he is really wrestling with himself. Despite the fact you know he's a baddy you almost find yourself willing him to be a goody. Don't like how his character develops so much.

Lex Luthor - Gene Hackman, Michael Rosenbaum, and Jon Cryer. Gene Hackman is just great in general. It's a shame because I really liked Keven Spacey as an actor, Keyzer Soze anybody? but he sucked as Lex, to be fair that whole movie was garbage. And the first time I watched Batman Vs Superman I kinda Liked Eisenberg. I have since watched it back and think he's awful. Too dorky to be a threat. I think Lex needs to be Stoic and confident. Not unhinged.

Green Arrow - Stephen Amell

Flash - Grant Gustin (I am not a fan of the guy who is currently playing him in the DCU) I didn't mind him. I liked the slight autistic vibe. Is Arrow any good? Tempted to give it a go

Supergirl - Melissa Benoist I didn't even know this was a thing!

Mr. Freeze - Nathan Darrow (Gotham). Not Arnold, that's for sure.<img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />I hated both versions. Just a bland character for me.

It takes everything wrong with the original Teen Titans show and dials it up to 11 while dropping all the good parts. But anyways Clancy Brown is perfect as Lex and thanks to him I can't buy any grown up Lex without a smooth baritone voice.

I feel I should watch more DC animated stuff. Some of the straight-to-video movies are great (Batman: Under the Red Hood streamlines the convoluted plot of its source material and All-Star Superman made me bawl like a little baby) but most can't hold a candle to Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League. Batman Beyond is also quite good if you like cyberpunk and are willing to excuse some of the late 90s/early 2000s cheese.

@panix04: I enjoy Arrow, like anything there are parts where it stinks but overall it is a pretty good show. Out of all of the CW shows I like the Flash the best. Just an great cast and the characters are fun but not over the top (In some cases they are).
