UFC through 100 shows

I thought it would be cool to share how the first 100 UFC shows have gone for me. I may back this up with a traditional dynasty from here on out.

 

For this save I have used this format. Every card is main evented by a title fight. The card also contains a 1 night 8 man tournament for the next title shot in the weight class. All fights are 60 minutes and judged on the whole. Vale Tudo rules. Other main card fights and prelims follow the same rules, but the amount of them varies by fighter availability.

 

UFC 1 took place on Saturday Week 4 July, 1993. UFC 100 took Place on Saturday Week 2 October, 2001. Of the fighters that fought on the real UFC 100 main card only, Thiago Alves, Frank Mir, and Dan Henderson have debuted. Mir has a 1-0 record, Alves is 0-1, and Henderson is 14-6 and a former 2 time Interim UFC Light Heavyweight Champion.

 

The company has grown from Low Level National to Low Level International.

 

Heavyweight Championship:

The UFC Heavyweight Championship made it's debut at UFC 4 with Maurice Smith defeating Rickson Gracie by TKO. Much like the real Heavyweight belt until Stipe, nobody has defended the belt more than twice, with Rickson and Oleg Taktarov both accomplishing this feet. The current Champion is Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira having defeated Jeff Monson by Armbar at UFC 98 for the title. Noguiera is set to make his first defense against Hugo Duarte at UFC 102.

 

Light Heavyweight/Superfight Championship:

The UFC Superfight Championship was decided in a tournament final at UFC 1 as Rickson Gracie defeated Marco Ruas by Rear Naked Choke. The title became the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship when the Heavyweight Championship was introduced and current Champion Murilo Bustamante elected to fight in the Light Heavyweight Division. The Current Champion is Chuck Liddell, who just came back from a 2 year hiatus and unified the belt by defeating the Interim Champion Alistair Overeem by Unanimous Decision at UFC 100.

 

Middleweight Championship

The UFC Middleweight Championship was decided in a tournament final at UFC 19 with Masakatsu Funaki defeating Matt Hume by armbar. Funaki is now in his 2nd reign with the belt with 15 successful title defenses, a UFC record. His last fight he defeated Jorge Patino by Rear Naked Choke at UFC 97.

 

Welterweight Championship:

The UFC Welterweight Championship was introduced at UFC 40 with Carlos Newton defeating Luis Fraga by Unanimous Decision in a Tournament Final. Matt Serra's 4 defenses is the record for this belt. The current champion is Karo Parysian in his 2nd reign having defeated Antonio McKee at UFC 96 by Unanimous Decision. Parysian is set to defend the belt against Luis Fraga at UFC 101.

 

Lightweight Championship:

This is a fairly new belt, being introduced at UFC 78 with Christiano Marcello defeating Ralph Gracie in a tournament final by Unanimous Decision. Marcello is the only man to hold the belt having 4 successful defenses since then. The most recent being over Rafael Cordeiro by Rear Naked Choke at UFC 99.

 

The UFC has had 3 fighters win belts in 2 weight classes. Rickson Gracie (Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight) Murilo Bustamante (Light Heavyweight and Middleweight), and Carlos Newton (Middleweight and Welterweight). None held the belts simultaneously.

 

12 fighters have earned over 1 million dollars in the UFC. Murilo Bustamante leading this at 6.5 million dollars.

 

Murilo Bustamante has the most wins in UFC history with 35 and most fights with 48. Masakatsu Funaki has Main Evented the most cards with 19.

 

153 fights have ended by Knockout. Wanderlei Silva has the most Knockout wins with 13. Wanderlei also has the only win by Stomp in UFC history. The only other person with double digit KO wins is Anderson Silva with 11.

 

190 fights have ended by TKO. Vernon White has the most TKO wins with 9. Pedro Rizzo is the only fighter in UFC history to win via TKO Leg Kicks, having done so twice.

 

587 fights have ended by submission. Murilo Bustamante has the most submissions with 28. Caol Uno has the most guillotines with 2. Bustamante has the most RNCs with 19. Rickson Gracie has the most triangles with 2 and americanas with 2. Yuri Vaulin has he only triangle armbar win. Erik Paulson has the most kimuras with 8. 8 fighters have 1 arm triangle win. Paulson and Bustamante tie for most armbars with 6 a piece. Ken Shamrock has the most kneebars with 8. 5 fighters have 1 leglock win. Frank Mir has the only ankle lock in UFC history. Ken Shamrock has the only 2 heel hooks in UFC history. Funaki has the only toehold in UFC history. Jens Pulver has the only north south choke in UFC history. Amauri Biteti and Frank Shamrock have the only 2 d'arce chokes in UFC history. Rickson Gracie has the only Von Flue choke in UFC history. Victor Yeroshin is the only fighter to make someone tap to strikes.

 

479 fights have ended by decision. Tito Ortiz has the most decision wins with 15.

 

Melvin Manhoef and Vitor Belfort are tied with most FOTN bonuses with 6. Funaki as the most SOTN bonuses with 12. Wanderlei Silva has the most KOTN bonuses with 8. Funaki has the most overall bonuses with 16 (12 SOTN, 4 FOTN)

<p>UFC 101 Results:</p><p> </p><p>

Prior to the show the UFC announced the signings of Light Heavyweight Stephan Bonnar, Middleweight Andrei Semenov, and Lightweights Aaron Riley and Rob McCullough. All of which will be making their mma debuts in the coming months. </p><p> </p><p>

Prelim Results:</p><p>

Pete Williams (7-5) defeated Mike Whitehead (0-2) by Unanimous Decision.</p><p>

Williams was able to score 2 knockdowns on the feet, but could not finish the fight, and was able to stay on top of Whitehead landing small strikes for the rest of the bout. </p><p> </p><p>

Jason Black (1-0) defeated Robbie Lawler (0-1) by Rear Naked Choke at 52:08.</p><p>

Lawler scored a quick knockdown, but was unable to put Black away. Black worked his way back to the feet, but was taken down by Lawler. As Lawler tired, Black was able to sweep him and get the submission late in the fight. </p><p> </p><p>

Francisco Bueno (3-3) defeated Maurice Smith (16-14) by Rear Naked Choke at 14:46. </p><p>

Smith was comfortably in control on the feet for the first ten minutes of the fight landing kicks and punches, before being taken down. Once on the ground Bueno quickly passed guard and secured the finish. </p><p> </p><p>

Tim Kennedy (1-0) defeated Dave Menne (5-9) by Unanimous Decision.</p><p>

Kennedy scored an early knockdown and spent the rest of the fight in control with ground and pound and searching for submissions. Menne was able to survive until the end, but this was a very lopsided contest. </p><p> </p><p>

Josh Thomson (1-0) defeated Bao Quach (0-2) by Rear Naked Choke at 15:17. </p><p>

Thomson landed knockdown in the opening minute of the fight and spent the rest of the fight pounding away on Quach until he gave up his back and Thomson was able to secure the choke. Post-fight Thomson called out Jay R. Palmer. </p><p> </p><p>

Bobby Southworth (2-1) defeated Joe Moreira (5-8) by Knock Out (Punch) at 20:33.</p><p>

Moreira was dropped twice, but battled back to his feet each time. Southworth landed a third knockdown that rendered Moreira unconscious. </p><p> </p><p>

Main Card: </p><p>

Akihiro Gono (16-14) defeated Matt Serra (16-6) by Rear Naked Choke at 26:20. </p><p>

A very back and forth fight on the feet for a majority of the contest. Serra eventually clinched and punished Gono up against the fence. Gono broke the clinch and landed a head kick, flooring Serra. Serra gave up his back after receiving some ground and pound and Gono locked in the choke to advance to the semifinals later tonight. </p><p> </p><p>

Matt Hughes (9-5) defeated John Lewis (15-4) by Unanimous Decision. </p><p>

The majority of this fight was spent with Hughes pressing Lewis against the fence and landing small strikes. Lewis scored a late takedown and some minor ground and pound, but it was too little too late. Hughes advances to fight Gono later tonight. </p><p> </p><p>

Antonio McKee (7-1) defeated Victor Hunsaker (11-2) by Rear Naked Choke at 4:31. </p><p>

McKee quickly took Hunsaker down, landed some small strikes, took his back and locked in the choke. This is the first finish of McKee's mma career. McKee advances to tonight's semi-finals. </p><p> </p><p>

Pat Miletech (13-10) defeats Fabricio Camoes (12-8) by TKO at 17:03. </p><p>

Camoes was actually controlling this fight on the feet and getting the better of the exchanges until Pat landed landed a counter right hook to stun Camoes. A follow up uppercut dropped Camoes and Militech finished with some ground and pound until the referee stepped in to stop the fight. Militech will fight McKee later tonight. </p><p> </p><p>

Ken Shamrock (17-14) defeated Sergei Kharitanov (3-2) by TKO at 28:36.</p><p>

After a lengthy back and forth battle on the feet Kharitanov dropped Shamrock with an uppercut, but was unable to put him away. After Sergei tired Shamrock was able to sweep him, pass to mount and land elbows until Mario Yamasaki stopped the fight. </p><p> </p><p>

Matt Hughes (10-5) defeated Akihiro Gono (16-15) by Armbar at 56:20.</p><p>

After some early success by Gono on the feet, Hughes was able to clinch Gono and punish him against the cage. The rest of the fight was all Hughes as he landed a couple takedowns and ground and pound. When Gono got back to his feet he was unable to break Hughes grip and would eat strikes until he was again taken down. Hughes pace finally wore Gono down until he could lock in the submission to advance to tonight's final. </p><p> </p><p>

Antonio McKee (8-1) defeated Pat Miletech (13-11) by Unanimous Decision. </p><p>

Militech's early success on the feet was quickly stymied by a takedown by McKee. McKee spent the rest of the fight landing minor ground and pound in Miletech's guard. McKee will fight Hughes in tonight's tournament final.</p><p> </p><p>

Erik Paulson (31-14) defeated Phil Baroni (3-2) by Anaconda Choke at 1:30. </p><p>

This was a complete shutout by Paulson. Paulson scored a takedown as soon as the fight started. A scramble by Baroni lead to Paulson holding him down in sprawl position where Paulson set up the Anaconda Choke. This was the first Anaconda Choke in UFC history</p><p> </p><p>

Antonio McKee (9-1) defeated Matt Hughes (10-6) by Unanimous Decision. </p><p>

Hughes had success early pinning McKee to the cage and dirty boxing him, until McKee was able to reverse position and land a takedown. From that point on McKee was able to hold Hughes down with minor ground and pound the rest of the fight. McKee has won the tournament and will fight the winner of tonight's main event for the UFC Welterweight Title. </p><p> </p><p>

Luiz Fraga (19-5) defeated Karo Parisyan (10-3) by Rear Naked Choke at 38:26) to win the UFC Welterweight Championship.</p><p>

Parisyan was getting the better of the early exchanges on the feet. Fraga scored a takedown, but Parisyan popped right back up. Fraga shot another takedown which Parisyan was able to sprawl out of and eventually pass to mount and almost finish the fight with strikes. Fraga fought back to his feet scored another takedown on an exhausted Parisyan and take his back to secure the choke. </p><p> </p><p>

<p>Monday Week 2 November, 2001 Press Conference:</p><p> </p><p>

Dave Menne (5-9) has been released from the promotion as his contract has expired and the organization has chosen not to renew it. </p><p> </p><p>

Rickson Gracie (27-10) has chosen to retire. Gracie is a former 2 time UFC Heavyweight Champion, 1 time UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, and 4 time tournament winner. Gracie won 6 Submission of the Night and 3 Fight of the Night honors. Gracie also won fighter of the year in 1997 and 1999. With his retirement Gracie will be the first ever induction into the UFC Hall of Fame. </p><p> </p><p>

Today's expected announcement of UFC 103, has been delayed as a proper title fight cannot be booked. </p><p>

Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera is already booked for UFC 102. </p><p>

Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell will be recuperating for another 2 months and 3 weeks.</p><p>

Middleweight Champion Masakatsu Funaki is ready to defend, however number 1 contender Anderson Silva is out another 54 days recuperating, and all other top contenders are coming off of a loss, except Erik Paulson, who the champion already has a 4-0 record against and just fought this past weekend.</p><p>

Welterweight Champion Luiz Fraga just defended his belt this past weekend and needs time off. </p><p>

Lightweight Champion Christiano Marcello is out another 54 days while nursing a knee injury. </p><p> </p><p>

The UFC plans to announce UFC 103 and UFC 104 the Monday following UFC 102. UFC 103 is expected to take place in January 2002, with UFC 104 following in February 2002.</p>

<p>UFC 102 Noguiera vs Duarte 2 Results:</p><p> </p><p>

Prelims:</p><p>

Don Frye (8-6) defeated Marco Ruas (17-12-1) by TKO at 5:51.</p><p>

A brief, back and forth battle on the feet ended when Frye landed a jab, right cross combo that floored Ruas. Frye followed with some ground and pound until the referee stopped the fight. </p><p> </p><p>

Forrest Griffin (1-0) defeated Mario Sperry (2-3) by TKO at 16:35.</p><p>

Griffin dominated a standup battle. Griffin wobbled Sperry with a straight right and followed up with a flurry of strikes against the cage leading to the referee to stop the fight. Many in the audience thought this was a late stoppage as Sperry was trapped and only upright because of the cage. </p><p> </p><p>

Mike Pyle (3-3) defeated Thiago Alves (0-2) by Rear Naked Choke at 22:28.</p><p>

A back and forth striking battle was going slightly in Alves' favor when Pyle shot a double leg that took him down. From there Pyle methodically used ground and pound to open up guard passes until he got the back and locked in the choke. </p><p> </p><p>

Rafael Corino (10-7) defeated Ricardo Morais (7-7) by Unanimous Decision. </p><p>

Morais was able to stop an early takedown and do damage on the feet early on, but once Corino eventually got the fight to the floor they never made their way back to their feet. Corino used ground and pound and submission threats to obtain the UD win. </p><p> </p><p>

Din Thomas (1-1) defeated Sergey Goylaev (0-1) by Kimura at 15:54.</p><p>

Both men had success in the striking department and Goylaev stopped 5 of Din's 7 takedown attempts. However, after the 2nd takedown Din landed in side control and quickly worked for the kimura to secure his first mma win. </p><p> </p><p>

Antonio Schembri (2-0) defeated Kazuo Misaki (0-1) by Unanimous Decision. </p><p>

This fight had a little bit of everything as both men scored and defended takedowns, landed strikes in the standup, and attempted ground and pound and submission on the ground. In the end Schembri squeaked out the win by being able to land more ground and pound when ge got his takedowns. </p><p> </p><p>

Main Card:</p><p>

Mark Kerr (17-9) defeated Jeff Monson (9-3) by Unanimous Decision.</p><p>

Definitely some controversy surrounding this decision. This was a grappling match through and through. Kerr landed more takedowns and top control, while Monson did more damage and looked for submissions after his takedowns. Kerr advances to the semi-finals of tonight's tournament. </p><p> </p><p>

Josh Barnett (6-2) defeated Pedro Rizzo (8-5) by Unanimous Decision. </p><p>

Barnett won, but not in the manner most thought his path to victory as Rizzo defended all 11 of Barnett's takedown attempts while landing one of his own. Barnett was able to win the fight by getting the better of the striking exchanges and sweeping Rizzo on the ground and ending up in top position to land some light gnp. Barnett advances to face Kerr in tonight's semi-finals.</p><p> </p><p>

Kevin Randleman (12-6) defeated Igor Vovchanchyn (9-8) by Unanimous Decision.</p><p>

This was a very slow paced fight. Randleman immediately shot a takedown and then landed some light strikes from Igor's guard for the remainder of the fight. </p><p> </p><p>

Heath Herring (12-5) defeated Paul Varelans (10-8) by TKO (Cut) at 9:15.</p><p>

A back and forth striking battle changed when Herring was able to open a nasty gash above Varelans eye around the 5 minute mark. Herring then pressed Varelans against the cage and landed more strikes to the cut eventually causing the referee to have the doctor look at the cut who then waived the fight off. Herring advances to face Randleman in tonight's semi-finals. </p><p> </p><p>

Chris Brennan (14-6) defeated Hayato Sakurai (9-10) by Kimura at 29:06.</p><p>

Sakurai did damage with strikes and stopping 3 takedowns in the early portions of the fight. Once Brennan got a takedown he relentlessly pursued submission after submission attempt before finishing the kimura. </p><p> </p><p>

Mark Kerr (18-9) defeated Josh Barnett (6-3) by Unanimous Decision.</p><p>

Kerr shot and scored a takedown immediately as the fight started and spent the next 55 minutes doing light ground and pound. Barnett did score a sweep and some ground and pound in the last 5 minutes but was unable to finish the fight. Kerr advances to tonight's tournament finals.</p><p> </p><p>

Kevin Randleman (13-6) defeated Heath Herring (12-6) by Unanimous Decision.</p><p>

Herring sprawled out of a takedown attempt early and did damage with ground and pound on Randleman. Randleman fought back to his feet and controlled the rest of the fight with 2 takedowns and some ground and pound of his own. Randleman will fight Kerr for tonight's tournament final.</p><p> </p><p>

Ricardo Arona (4-2) defeated Renzo Gracie (23-13) by Split Decision.</p><p>

After an early Arona takedown the rest of the fight was Arona landing gnp in Renzo's guard while Renzo was active on the bottom attempting submissions and sweeps. In the end Arona did enough to get the nod from 2 of the 3 judges at cageside. </p><p> </p><p>

Kevin Randleman (14-6) defeated Mark Kerr (18-10) by Knock Out (Punch) at 1:20.</p><p>

Both men were exhausted having both fought 2 hours tonight entering this fight. Kerr shot a takedown at the start which Randleman sprawled from and landed ground and pound. A missed soccer kick allowed Kerr to stand up only to get rendered unconscious by a Randleman right hook. Randleman is the winner of tonight's heavyweight tournament.</p><p> </p><p>

Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera defeated Hugo Duarte by Armbar at 39:54 to retain the UFC Heavyweight Championship. </p><p>

Duarte had some success on the feet and stuffed 4 of 8 takedowns, but could not keep Noguiera off of him long enough to put together any sort of sustained attack. Noguiera's relentless pace allowed him to wear Duarte down until he could grab an armbar for the victory. This is Noguiera's first defense of the UFC Heavyweight title, and 5th straight win via armbar. </p><p> </p><p>

The UFC Announces the signings of heavyweight Cheick Kongo, middleweights Rory Singer, Jason Miller, and Chael Sonnen, and Welterweight Jonathan Goulet. All of these men will debut in the coming months. </p><p> </p><p>

UFC Press Conference Monday, Week 2 January, 2002

 

The UFC announces the signing of Canadian Welterweight Georges St. Pierre.

 

The UFC has released the following fighters: Heavyweights Dan Bobish (4-8), Gary Meyers (4-6), Moise Rimbon (0-3), Victor Yeroshin (5-7), Light Heavyweight Vladimir Matyushenko (2-5), Middleweight Frank Trigg (4-6), Welterweights Johil de Oliveira (4-6), Ray Cooper (5-8), and Lightweight Gabe Lemley (0-3).

UFC 103 Fraga vs McKee Results

 

Prelims:

Ian Freeman (3-2) defeated Mirko Cro Cop (1-1) by TKO at 5:15.

Cro Cop was picking Freeman apart on the feet before being caught with a straight right that floored him. Freeman followed with some punches on the ground until the fight was stopped. Freeman was a +680 underdog heading into this fight.

 

Jason Lambert (1-1) defeated Flavio Luis Moura (0-1) by TKO at 1:49.

Lambert wasted little time clinching Moura and putting him against the cage. There a short uppercut dropped Moura and Lambert finished with strikes until being pulled away by Big John McCarthy.

 

Nick Diaz (1-0) defeated John Allesio (3-6) by D'Arce Choke at 3:39.

After a brief exchange Diaz took Allesio down. Allesio popped up only to be taken down again. Diaz then began to work his submission game and landed the D'Arce for the tap out. Following the fight Diaz called out Townsend Saunders.

 

Scott Adams (3-3) defeated Tim Sylvia (1-2) by Unanimous Decision.

This was really the tale of 2 fights as Sylvia controlled the fight on the feet, while Adams won the grappling exchanges. Sylvia ended the fight in Adams half guard landing punches, but the judges gave Adams the nod in a very close fight.

 

Mark Hughes (2-2) defeated Chael Sonnen (0-1) by KO (Punch) at 18:05

Sonnen scored a takedown almost as soon as the fight started and worked ground and pound until being swept. Hughes then worked his way to Sonnen's back and unloaded heavy strikes until Sonnen was unconscious.

 

Eiji Mitsuoka (1-1) defeated Rob McCullough (0-1) by Unanimous Decison.

On the feet this was a fairly balanced fight with Mitsuoka landing more volume, but McCullough landing the more powerful strikes. In the end it was the wrestling and ground and pound of Mitsuoka that proved too much as he landed all 3 of his takedown attempts and a significant amount of ground and pound.

 

Main Card:

Carlos Newton (20-8) defeated Delson Heleno (1-1) by Rear Naked Choke at 37:30.

Heleno tried to keep this standing and land from a distance but Newton's pressure was too much landing 4 takedowns. and using ground and pound to open his way up to pass to Heleno's back to lock in the choke and advance to tonight's semi-finals.

 

Matt Serra (17-6) defeated Mikey Burnett (6-6) by Guillotine at 1:30.

After getting hit with a couple of punches Barnett shot a takedown and Serra locked in a guillotine off of it to score the tapout. Serra will face Carlos Newton later tonight.

 

Wander Braga (11-8) defeated Rich Clementi (3-4) by Kimura at 7:03.

Braga got a takedown very quickly and after some ground and pound was able to pass to side control. From here he began working his submissions until locking up the kimura for the tap. Braga advances to tonight's semi-finals.

 

Ryo Chonnan (2-0) defeated Karo Parysian (10-4) by Unanimous Decision.

In yet another huge upset tonight, +740 underdog Chonnan was able to defeat former 2 time UFC Welterweight Champion Karo Parisyan by Unanimous Decision. Parysian did get the better of the striking exchanges early, but Chonnan's relentless pursuit of takedowns eventually paid off as he was able to keep the fight on the floor and land ground and pound and attempt submissions until the bell.

 

Fabio Gurgel (20-20) defeated Enson Inoue (9-12) by TKO (Cut) at 50:32.

A very grappling oriented fight, both men landed takedowns but had problems keeping the other man down once they got them there. Gurgel was able to open Inoue up with an elbow from the clinch against the cage, that immediately caused the referee to step in and ask for the doctor to check it. The doctor then wasted no time stopping the fight.

 

Matt Serra (18-6) defeated Carlos Newton (20-9) by TKO at 13:35.

A very closely contested contest. Both men shot 3 takedowns, but none of them were successful. Instead the fight would take place on the feet where Newton would land more volume, and Serra landing the bigger shots. Eventually Serra landed a well timed right uppercut to knock Newton out and advance to tonight's finals.

 

Ryo Chonnan (3-0) defeated Wander Braga (11-9) by Unanimous Decision.

The Cinderalla story continues for Chonnan as he wins a close, hard fought decision. Both men got 1 takedown and were able to hold the other man down with ground and pound. In the end Chonnan was slightly more active with his time on top to earn the decision.

 

Carlos Barretto (15-7) defeated Oleg Taktarov (25-13) by Rear Naked Choke at 16:47.

Taktarov shot an unsuccessful takedown off the bat and from there Barretto took him down and dominated until he could get the choke.

 

Matt Serra (19-6) defeated Ryo Chonnan (3-1) by TKO at 0:47.

The clock has struck midnight for Cinderalla. Serra landed 2 hard right hands off the start to floor Chonnan and followed with ground and pound to win tonight's tournament.

 

Luis Fraga (20-5) defeated Antonio McKee (9-2) by Rear Naked Choke at 40:41 to retain the UFC Welterweight Championship.

Fraga and McKee clinched off the batt. Fraga attempted to take McKee down 4 times unsuccessfully, but the 5th time was the charm and McKee never was able to get Fraga off of him after that. Fraga landed ground and pound until he could pass to McKee's back and after fishing for the choke he was finally able to sink it in. This was Fraga's first UFC Welterweight Championship defense.

Breaking News: Ricco Rodriguez has broken his hand and been forced to withdraw from his UFC 104 bout with Semmy Schilt. Gilbert Yvel (NR)(4-3) has agreed to step in to face Schilt on short notice.

UFC 104: Marcello vs Hansen Results:

Prelims:

Jason Miller (1-0) defeated Ryuta Sakurai (11-7) by Unanimous Decision.

Miller controlled the fight on the feet for the short periods of time it was there. Sakurai landed 4 out of 5 takedowns, but Miller was quick to scramble and come out either back on his feet or on top once taken down. After the fight Jason Miller called out Wallid Ismael, saying he was going to embarrass him.

 

Vitor Ribiero (1-0) defeated Takumi Nakayama (2-3) by Rear Naked Choke at 4:12.

Ribiero landed a jab and shot for a takedown and got Nakayama's back off of the takedown. After 2 unsuccessful attempts, Ribiero was able to lock in the choke the 3rd time around and secure the tap out.

 

Nate Marquardt (4-4) defeated Andrei Semenov (0-1) by Rear Naked Choke at 41:01.

Marquardt had success on the feet while Semenov had success pinning Marquardt to the cage and dirty boxing him. Marquardt eventually reversed position and got a takedown. Some heavy ground and pound force Semenov to give up his back and Marquardt secured the choke.

 

Chris Lytle (5-5) defeated Thadeus Luster (8-5) by TKO at 0:38.

Lyle landed a jab right cross combination to floor Luster and then followed with some heavy punches forcing the referee to stop the fight. Post fight Lytle says he has a lot of respect for Townsend Saunders and thinks they would have a great fight.

 

Semmy Schilt (9-6) defeated Gilbert Yvel (4-4) by KO at 1:15.

Yvel may regret taking this fight on just 9 days notice as Schilt countered an Yvel right hook with a superman punch for the knockout.

 

Artur Mariano (7-5) defeated Stephan Bonnar (0-1) by Unanimous Decision.

A very kick heavy attack allowed Bonnar to win the striking battle, but Mariano's grappling and ground and pound proved to be too much in the eyes of the judges in this fight.

 

Main Card:

Rafael Cordeiro (21-12) defeated Fabiano Iha (4-4) by TKO at 1:07.

Cordeiro floored Iha with a 4 punch combination and followed with ground and pound for the quick victory. This quick win will surely help Cordeiro in the semi-finals later tonight.

 

Alexadre Franca Noguiera (13-1) defeated Genki Sudo (4-3) by Rear Naked Choke at 12:54.

Noguiera had no problems taking Sudo down at will, but had problems keeping him there as Sudo kept finding his way back to his feet. Eventually Noguiera was able to secure Sudo's back off of a takedown and that was the beginning of the end as Noguiera used strikes to soften Sudo up before locking in the choke to advance to fight Cordeiro later tonight.

 

Caol Uno (14-9) defeated Sean Sherk (10-6) by Rear Naked Choke at 37:36.

Sherk controlled the fight both on the feet and on the ground for the vast majority of the fight. However, a scramble left an exhausted Sherk underneath Uno, who worked his way to Sherk's back and locked in the choke for the come from behind victory.

 

Rumina Sato (23-7) defeated Joe Hurley (2-3) by Rear Naked Choke at 11:06.

A complete shutout by Sato as he quickly took Hurley down and worked to take his back. Hurley valiantly defended multiple choke attempts, but the relentless attack eventually proved too much.

 

Tony DeSouza (3-1) defeated Townsend Saunders (4-5) by Armbar at 2:08.

Saunders got a quick takedown and attempted some light ground and pound while DeSouza showed an active guard looking for armbar and triangles before finally landing an armbar.

 

Rafael Cordeiro (22-12) defeated Alexandre Franca Noguiera (13-2) by Armbar at 14:07.

This fight proved to be a mirror image of the previous fight, except on a longer scale as Noguiera got the quick takedown with light ground and pound as Cordeiro attempted submissions off of his back before locking up the arm and getting the submission.

 

Rumina Sato (24-7) defeated Caol Uno (14-10) by D'Arce Choke at 4:20.

Sato got a quick takedown, but had some temporary trouble passing Uno's guard. A scramble lead to Sato in sprawl position on top of Uno before locking up the d'arce choke.

 

David Terrell (5-3) defeated Amaury Bitetti (22-17) by Unanimous Decision.

After a brief striking exchange Terrell dropped Bitetti with a right hook and spent the rest of the fight landing small strikes in Bitetti's guard. Post fight Terrell called out Jose Landi-Jons.

 

Rumina Sato (25-7) defeated Rafael Cordeiro (22-13) by Armbar at 3:41.

Sato immediately pursued the takedowns and Cordeiro defended the first one, but was pressed against the fence by it. Sato then got the takedown and worked to pass, but Cordeiro won out and ended up on top after the scramble. Sato then locked up the arm from the bottom to win tonight's tournament. With this all 7 of tonight's tournament matches ended with finishes.

 

Christiano Marcello (12-4) defeated Joachim Hansen (11-6) by Rear Naked Choke at 29:45 to retain the UFC Lightweight Championship.

Hansen landed a quick right hook dropping Marcello, but Marcello survived the onslaught of soccer kicks and got back to his feet. Marcello then became much more defense oriented on the feet. The pair exchanged takedowns with Marcello eventually passing to Hansen's back and locking in the choke. This marks Marcello's 5th successful title defense.
